00:00Hell, at least not yet.
00:04Clint said he believes this is the most important thing
00:09that D'Amico Ryan said yesterday.
00:10D'Amico Ryan spoke to the media for I don't know how long,
00:14but he talked a lot about.
00:16He talked a lot about C.J. Stroud.
00:18He talked about William Anderson.
00:19He talked about the offense, the rookies.
00:22He talked about the center position.
00:24He talked about a lot of different things.
00:27He said the most important thing he heard D'Amico Ryan's
00:32was this about Will Anderson.
00:34Will continues to wreck practice.
00:36I'm probably going to have to sit him out here soon
00:38because we have to be able to actually practice.
00:42He just keeps wrecking practice.
00:44Just keep doing that.
00:45Keep causing havoc.
00:46That's what he does.
00:48I was showing God that's what he does on Sundays as well.
00:51It's no surprise that Will is the guy for everyone to watch.
00:55The intensity at which we operate, that's how Will Anderson plays.
00:59That's how I want everybody to be.
01:03Why was that the most important thing you thought D'Amico Ryan said yesterday?
01:07Well, it's easy.
01:08I mean, the first day we watched training camp last year to the last day,
01:11what did I tell you was the most frustrating thing every day we were out there?
01:15Just the pure domination of the defense
01:18that they weren't able to install and get anything done.
01:21I mean, it's just like I cannot believe that D'Amico Ryan's
01:27and Nick Casario went out there one day,
01:32much less the entire champ.
01:34And the majority of 11-on-11 work, full team work,
01:38was Will Anderson.
01:39It wasn't just Will.
01:40It was Will, Daniil.
01:41It was a whole defense.
01:42Just absolutely wrecking practice.
01:45Somebody stop that man!
01:46While on the other side, you've got a first-year play caller,
01:51a third-year quarterback,
01:53you've got a rookie left tackle and a rookie running back,
01:57you've got a new left guard, a new right guard,
02:03you've got a right tackle in Titus Howard
02:06and a tight end in Dalton Schultz who had never heard the language.
02:08Everybody was hearing it for the first time.
02:10Everybody was hearing this language for the first time.
02:13And we thought somehow that it was a good idea to go out there
02:17with a defense that everybody already knew was going to be great.
02:19You didn't need to go out there every day
02:21and demolish your opponent to gain confidence, right?
02:24And you went out there every day and thought the good thing to do
02:28for your young quarterback and your first-year play caller
02:31was to just whip their ass every day to finish practice.
02:37And then we all wonder why, hey, there ain't no motion in this offense
02:40and it seems like it's super vanilla and you can't do this
02:43and you can't do that and you're rotating guards for half the season
02:47trying to figure out who the best left guard is
02:49because this guy was getting his ass whooped by your defense
02:52all training camp.
02:53Like that was just, to me, that's the one thing that I've watched in Houston
02:57since D'Amico got here and I thought to myself,
02:59like this is like dysfunctional type action that a team would take.
03:05Like this, for a team to do that is like you're not even trying to win
03:11offensively.
03:12Like that blew my mind.
03:14I hear D'Amico Ryan, and I know he's laughing or whatever,
03:17but to hear D'Amico Ryan say, yeah, man,
03:20we may have to just pull him out of practice.
03:22I mean, you can't even, to know that at least what I'm saying,
03:26I clearly don't agree with my overall take they don't agree with,
03:30but what my observation, clearly they're observing the same thing
03:34that I'm observing, is like you can't even have a damn practice
03:36with this guy out there.
03:37And that's funny to the defense coordinator.
03:39That's funny to the defensive-minded head coach.
03:41That ain't real funny to the quarterback that's in a year
03:43when he's got a contract year.
03:44It's not real funny when it's an offensive play call
03:46that's never called plays before.
03:49Right?
03:49I mean, so, yeah, that was the most important thing,
03:53the best thing that I heard yesterday, and I love what C.J. Stroud said,
03:56but the most important thing that I heard yesterday
03:58came out of D'Amico Ryan's mouth, and is what you just heard.
04:00The fact that he knows that's the case, I wouldn't practice Will.
04:04I would not do – I wouldn't do ones versus ones
04:08with Will Anderson on the field.
04:10I wouldn't do them at all, but I wouldn't do them
04:11with Will Anderson on the field until the last week of camp.
04:15See, my thing, the whole – my whole deal is with Will.
04:22Listen, we all love Will Anderson.
04:25We do.
04:26I think Will is one of my favorite players on the team.
04:30Love his effort, his motor.
04:33Bad MF-er.
04:34Love what he has become.
04:36He is one of the best defensive players in the game
04:39and a real good dude.
04:42It's time to grow up.
04:45You can stop yourself, especially – see, for me,
04:49your point was always valid.
04:52But my point was not – but, dude, you're about to get somebody hurt.
04:58And we don't even have on pads right now.
05:00And you're coming around the corner on 11-on-11 on a tackle.
05:05We're not getting better.
05:07Stop it.
05:08On a backup tackle.
05:09I think Blake Fisher was getting most of the runs.
05:10Come on, man.
05:10Because the mother –
05:11You're coming around on the corner.
05:13Braden and –
05:14Braden Spence, you're coming around.
05:15Trent Brown weren't there.
05:16We're out here.
05:16Nobody's got on pads.
05:18It's C.J. Stroud dropping back.
05:24I mean, what are we doing here?
05:26Hold on, show.
05:27No, you can control yourself.
05:30All right?
05:31Nobody's telling – like – and to be honest with you,
05:34you know this better than I do.
05:35I'm not – I believe he is one of the litmus tests for this team.
05:41And there may be some days where they go out there and they practice
05:44and he needs to set a tone and do that.
05:48Bro, come on, man.
05:49Not every day.
05:51And not when – and not when we're trying to install stuff.
05:54Yeah.
05:54And not when we don't have on pads and you're coming around the corner
05:58like you did in New England in the divisional round on Blake Fisher
06:03with C.J. Stroud.
06:04And you know you can't stop yourself.
06:06That time I was going to be all kiki until he folds himself
06:10until Blake Fisher is about tired of getting his ass kicked for the 95th time.
06:14He probably won't be able to do nothing about it.
06:16But he's about tired of getting his ass kicked and he pushes him down in the ground
06:19and he's on the ground and he's into – and he's into C.J.
06:23Or Davis.
06:24Like, come on, man.
06:26You kiss my ass with the practice how you play thing.
06:29You got on – you don't have on pads.
06:33Stop it.
06:35Daniil Hunter does not come around the corner like it's the Super Bowl every time.
06:40Aziz Alshire, who is the one you question the most if he can contain himself.
06:44We don't hear Aziz in non-pads about lighting people up.
06:48That's –
06:49Because what we're not going to do is not going to line up David Montgomery
06:53to chip block the hell out of his ass when we're not wearing pads.
06:58Why?
06:58Because David Montgomery is going to control himself.
07:01They shouldn't have to be able to take your ass off the field
07:05because you can't contain yourself.
07:06Well, guys, I only go one way.
07:07Kiss my ass.
07:08You know exactly how you can go around when we don't have no pads on.
07:13That's the one that sticks it to me the most is,
07:15you know we ain't got no damn pads on.
07:17What are you doing?
07:18Ryan, I love the passion.
07:20I love what you're saying.
07:21Because here's the deal.
07:21This is how you know.
07:23And this is one reason why I'm so adamant about the lack of alphas on the offense.
07:29I'm going to tell you right now,
07:30I was nowhere near the player these guys are.
07:33There is zero chance I make it through the first team drill
07:37without personally telling Will Anderson.
07:41Come on, man.
07:41Are you kidding me?
07:42We're in sweats, man.
07:45Like, there's – let me tell you, unless –
07:47and look, D'Amico don't know because D'Amico ain't never done it.
07:49Nick Casario don't know.
07:51I guess Nick may have done it at Stony Brook.
07:53I guess he was a quarterback back then, wasn't he?
07:57Yeah.
07:58Nick Casario.
07:59I mean, but unless you've ever –
08:02John Carroll.
08:03Unless you've ever taken a snap in a walk-through setting
08:07or even a half-padded setting and dropped back
08:11and tried to go through the reads and try to get some of you out of what you're doing,
08:15unless you've ever done that, you don't understand what I'm talking about.
08:18Right?
08:18Right, to the degree.
08:19Ron just painted a beautiful picture of how frustrating it is.
08:22Right?
08:23It just doesn't –
08:25there's nothing more frustrating than somebody over there going 90 miles an hour
08:30and your right tackle is put in your lap every time you drop back and try to throw it.
08:33And I just want you to understand.
08:36We're in shells.
08:38There's no pads.
08:39So I can't hit you.
08:40I can't really hit you.
08:42Right, right, right.
08:42There's no pads.
08:43He's bare-chested.
08:45And here's the other part.
08:46He knows the pass is coming.
08:50Like, he knows the – he knows what's happening.
08:53He knows what the drill is.
08:54Yeah.
08:55He knows the first couple plays or runs, and then he knows a pass is coming,
08:59which is a little bit different in a game.
09:01He knows a pass is coming.
09:04And he is like, come on, man.
09:06You can reel it in.
09:07He wants to improve, and he is a leader on this team.
09:10One part about being a leader on this team is allowing the other side to be able to get their
09:17work done.
09:17Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:19And allowing the other side – like, yes, dude, we know you go hard.
09:22We know you.
09:23You don't have to set it.
09:24We know you.
09:25Yeah.
09:25Somebody – either D'Amico's got to pull him off the field or somebody – Braden Smith,
09:29Wyatt Teller.
09:30Somebody has to say, hey, man.
09:32I mean, that's some junior high stuff.
09:33So, we ain't got to pull – we shouldn't have to pull one of the leaders of our team off
09:36the field.
09:36I agree.
09:37You're not right.
09:37I mean, you're not wrong.
09:38You're not wrong.
09:39Get some work done.
09:40It's –
09:41No.
09:41It's – you're 100% right.
09:43There is – there is – it's why I was so passionate about it last year.
09:46There is nothing – I mean, you go out there, and you're in a new offense,
09:49and you know you've got a great defense, and you know you've got to win more than 10 games,
09:51and you know all this stuff, the level you've got to play.
09:55Every rep is important.
09:56Every rep that's – even if it's walkthrough.
09:58Even – it doesn't matter.
09:59OTAs – oh, it's OTAs.
10:00Everybody relax.
10:01No, no, every one of these reps are extremely important for C.J. Stroud,
10:06whether it's seeing the defense or communicating the pass protection
10:10or getting chemistry with Jalen Knoll or, you know, somebody that hadn't been –
10:13David Montgomery.
10:14I mean, it's – they are extremely important.
10:17When you've got a guy out there that his 20 reps during the day are –
10:20he's disrupting the whole thing, it's wasteful.
10:24It's plum-ass silly to let it happen.
10:26I mean, this is even different than they're doing one-on-ones,
10:28which is just him and the tackle or something.
10:30That's even –
10:31Oh, go hard.
10:31But when you are – we've got no pads,
10:35and you are coming to C.J. Stroud, the quarterback,
10:38like a bat out of hell, and nobody can really – come on, man.
10:43Like, we can all have fun with the – oh, well, somebody texted you,
10:47give less effort – no, guys.
10:49We understand the effort that is required for certain situations.
10:54He has not said he's got to pull anybody else off the field.
10:58Does Jalen Petrie not go hard?
11:01He ain't got to pull – Jalen Petrie's not sizing up Nico Collins as he's coming
11:05across the middle and lighting him up like he did Rasheed Rice in the game.
11:09Why?
11:09Because we don't have no damn pads on.
11:15God, man, that is just –
11:17You get hot.
11:18I'm just –
11:18I'm with you.
11:19I'm with you.
11:19We've got to pull your ass off the field.
11:21I'm with you.
11:21Nobody – we've got to pull the leader on the leader –
11:23no, we need you out there, but we need you to be smart.
11:26Yeah.
11:27You can tone it down.
11:28You are – he is a smart dude.
11:31I would love nothing more than –
11:41I mean, I don't want to see it come –
11:43Well, look –
11:44But that's the other part.
11:45Like, I don't –
11:45I don't want it to come to that.
11:47I was going to say, I also don't want the offense to get pissed off
11:49and feel like they've got to do something to retaliate.
11:51That should have happened.
11:52It should have happened last year.
11:52I get it.
11:53If your head coach was going to let that happen,
11:54somebody on your offense should have said, hold on a second.
11:56Gosh dang.
11:57That's the problem with this whole –
11:59with the system they got over there on the offensive side of the football.
12:02I mean, clearly, the fact that nobody stood up and said,
12:05hey, man, what the hell are we doing?
12:06This is a mess.
12:08Yeah, I mean, listen, like, you keep getting your ass
12:10taken advantage of in situations like that.
12:12You're going to get pissed.
12:13You know, we already know you're better than the tackles already.
12:17You're better than them already.
12:18Now, you call somebody to keep getting their asses kicked
12:21and embarrassed like that to do something stupid,
12:23which potentially puts him in jeopardy.
12:26We shouldn't have to have the offense to come in and say,
12:28all right, here, that's all right, here, I'm going to get his ass this time.
12:30Let me get it.
12:30Coach, if Coach ain't going to do it.
12:31No, we don't – yeah, we don't need to do that either.
12:33Just contain yourself.
12:35We don't have pads.
12:36C.J. Stroud is doing a seven-step drop.
12:38Maybe you shouldn't be going shot out of a damn cannon around him.
12:44Coming up next.
12:45You're crazy.
12:46I know.
12:47Cannonball wheel.
12:48After hearing C.J.
