West Indies women's captain Hayley Matthews is upbeat ahead of the T20 Tri-Series starting tomorrow, with the ladies in maroon taking on hosts Ireland from 11.00am TT time.

Matthews says the tri-series, which also includes Pakistan, is a good form of preparation for next month's T20 World Cup in England and Wales.
Transcript
00:00The West Indies play their women's T20 World Cup opener on June 13th against defending champions New Zealand and Southampton.
00:07But for now, the first assignment for the ladies in Maroon is a T20 tri-series against home side Ireland
00:13and Pakistan
00:14with the first game bowling off on Thursday, May 28th against the Irish in Dublin.
00:18Windy's captain Hayley Matthews says this tri-series is very important since it's preparing her team for the World Cup.
00:25This is obviously going to be a great tell for where we're at as a team.
00:30But I think also to make sure that we're getting the combinations right as a group and going into the
00:35World Cup knowing exactly what plans we want to have in place.
00:38Yeah, well to get some confidence under our belts, hopefully with a few wins, playing two teams like Ireland and
00:44Pakistan.
00:45We know those are teams that are improving every day and getting better and yeah, it's going to be a
00:50really good test for us before the World Cup.
00:52Prior to the upcoming tri-series in Ireland, the West Indies women were in a training camp in Wales.
00:58That camp, according to the Windy's skipper, was extremely crucial in terms of preparing the ladies for the assignments ahead.
01:05Yeah, the prep was really good for the group I think.
01:08Obviously, being up in England, well Wales, having similar conditions to what the World Cup is going to be like
01:14was really crucial to get accustomed and I guess acclimatised to what it's like over there.
01:20But yeah, just to also get the girls in some really good nick before coming down here to Ireland, sorting
01:25out I guess anything that needed, sorting out batting or bowling-wise.
01:30And yeah, just getting ourselves in the best possible position to be able to come down here and perform and
01:34then over to the World Cup to perform well too.
01:36Even though the tri-series is not as big as the T20 World Cup, far from it, Matthews and company
01:42are taking it very seriously.
01:44In fact, the team in Maroon is hungry for success in the tri-series before heading to the prestigious ICC
01:49tournament.
01:50Well, I think success for us probably is pretty clear coming into a series like this and I guess playing
01:58against two teams that we're ranked higher than in the T20 rankings, yeah, we probably want to go there and
02:04win all the matches and I think that's going to be the real goal for us this series.
02:10Yeah, I guess that puts us in a position where if we do win those matches, we certainly feel like
02:14we're in really good stead going into the World Cup.
02:17The squad comprises veterans plus less experienced members. According to Matthews, the seniors see it as their duty to guide
02:25the younger ones in the team.
02:27Vinwood, now on ETS Sport.
