After the Windies went under in the opening Women's T20 to the Aussies, captain Hayley Matthews said the poor batting display was the reason for the defeat.
Transcript
00:00The West Indies lost the opening women's T20 International to Australia in St. Vincent by 43 runs.
00:06It means the home team has to win the remaining two games to clinch the series.
00:10After the match, Windies captain Hayley Matthews said the batting was the problem once again.
00:15I guess just to come back strong, it's going to be really important that we pick ourselves up.
00:21I think we can certainly take the positive out of how we bowled today,
00:25but over the last few matches we've probably been disappointing with the bat.
00:29But I'm obviously in a bit of a rut myself and that's probably correlating to how we're going with the
00:34bat.
00:35But yeah, we certainly as a batting group have to figure out ways to score and ways to get better
00:39as a team.
00:40Also disappointed was Kiana Joseph who top scored for the Windies with 45.
00:44For her, it was a bittersweet moment.
00:47It was a bit disappointing because we didn't get to the target.
00:51But all in all, I still had a great innings out there and I'm really thankful for that.
00:56And yeah, I just want to thank the Father Almighty that I actually got a start.
01:01And I can't wait to go out there the next game to continue.
01:06The Aussies were pleased to go one up in the series.
01:09But there was one area of concern which happened to be dropped catches.
01:13But player of the match, Beth Mooney, who made 79, wasn't too worried about it.
01:18I'm not sure. Sometimes that happens. It can be a little bit contagious. No one means to do it.
01:23You know, I probably get it wrong sometimes and tell people it's not the last catch they're going to drop
01:27in their career.
01:28But yeah, we're human and sometimes these things happen.
01:31First time playing at this venue, lights are always a little bit different everywhere you go.
01:36So, you know, obviously there'll be some disappointed players in there with the catches that went down.
01:41But at the end of the day, they didn't cost us.
01:43Both teams still have two more T20 internationals to play in St. Vincent,
01:48followed by three one-day internationals in St. Kitts.
