00:00Despite losing the three-match ODI series to the Sri Lankan women,
00:04the West News women will start their three-match T20 series this weekend as favourites.
00:09That's based on their superior ranking,
00:11plus coming off a 2-1 series win over South Africa in their last series.
00:15And skipper Hayley Matthews believes they have more going for them in the shortest version.
00:20I'm obviously going to look to go out there and be a bit more aggressive on the field.
00:24But yeah, certainly a format that we figure we're probably a lot more suited for as well.
00:31So looking forward to the competition.
00:33Obviously coming into the T20 stuff now, less overs to bat.
00:37They certainly will be coming at things a lot harder.
00:40But at the same time, us as a bowling unit are just going to have to try to adjust
00:45and keep things tighter and hopefully bring more wickets into play as well.
00:48How confidence also comes from the quality and depth in this quarter?
00:52The biggest strength we have probably is the power within the team.
00:55Obviously players like Chanel Henry, DeAndre Doughton,
00:59who are big power hoses and can obviously launch a ball quite far.
01:05So seeing them at their best is going to be super important leading up to the World Cup.
01:10And yeah, I guess bowling-wise, our spinners have been doing pretty well.
01:15And if we could just improve in the pace department,
01:18hopefully take some more wickets there.
01:20I think it'll turn us into a good all-round team.
01:23With the T20 World Cup coming up later this year in the UK,
01:26Matthews is more concerned with the present and future rather than the past.
01:31I mean, that was 10 years ago now, so I don't think we're dwelling on that at all.
01:35We certainly have to prove ourselves once again.
01:39But, you know, after reaching the semifinals in the last edition,
01:43we do definitely feel like we're a better side this year now,
01:47two years later, and that'll certainly put us in for a shot.
01:51So just trying to be our best by the time our World Cup comes around.
