00:00so after an embarrassing weekend at the office the socks now back at the bottom of the standings
00:04the al east a season worst eight games below 500 and even worse the red socks are in town i'm
00:11sorry
00:11the braves rather in town with their best pitchers on deck and seven of the next eight teams they
00:17play are monsters all of them top 10 in era and they blew a somewhat inspiring tarps off moment
00:25friday night did they ever and now it just looks embarrassing you know i thought i saw that and
00:30saw everyone going crazy and i'm just like oh this could be the thing but it's it was like it
00:34was
00:34now that they lost and they stink if ted and jackson were out in the middle of that they might
00:40have won the game you know what you know i i feel bad i wasn't there for a minute that
00:43could have
00:44been the turning point this season huh it could have been red socks lose to the twins yeah i was
00:50embarrassed for those guys afterwards because it was like i remember like i think it was two years
00:54ago when it came out i went to the screening of the joker 2 movie that fully i do and
00:59there were
00:59like a bunch of guys dressed movies ever yes they were dressed as the joker and when the movie was
01:04over they were so embarrassed that the film it sucks so bad it's like it was like the same thing
01:09with these guys the shirts off and it's done it's like we took off our shirts for this jeez man
01:15it was
01:15just a bad bad weekend at least friday was somewhat entertaining and then it of course all fell apart let's
01:20get to what uh chad tracy said about what happened let's uh take this stuff another great job battling
01:25back putting runners on base putting ourselves in position to tire or take the lead as he hit the
01:31ball look like it was going to be gone off the bat the wind's kind of coming in so it
01:34stays in but
01:35just yeah it's tough yeah how many times has that happened i mean it's some big come on run guys
01:40run
01:40run run you think it's a home run and they just stopped there and staring at it uh you know
01:45the way
01:45they lost these games it's like there's they're finding all kinds of different ways to i mean it
01:50used to you know the bullpen was saving them now the bullpen's falling apart uh you know brian
01:54baos his fluffer goes out there and gives up two runs in the first inning and then so that it's
01:59never a game they're just i can't tell whether ted's a fan of the fluffer or not a fan of
02:03the
02:03opener you know you're very conflicted on this you know look i mean if it works sure but it didn't
02:09work this works for him but it doesn't work for the actual opener the fluffer doesn't work right
02:14and you know what it doesn't work for this team is when you go down in a 2-0 hole
02:17like you can't
02:18this team can't get behind early yeah they suck they can't they don't come back from behind ever
02:23so i i don't look if you got to do that to get your pitcher in the right frame of
02:27mind then he's
02:28probably not uh long for the bigs it's funny ted you know alex spear wrote an article in the globe
02:33which always has too many big words that i can't understand but it was pretty funny for several reasons
02:38one he did have one good stat and that was it if the socks had merely been a 500 team
02:43at fenway
02:43they'd be tied for fourth best record in the american league just just a 500 at home but then
02:48alex gave us this gem the socks did find some encouragement in sunday's loss chiefly in the
02:54form of seven extra base hits they're most in any home game this year their two homers also matched a
03:01season high at fenway and then he put a bread the seas the socks are one of two teams in
03:06baseball
03:06along with the rangers not to hit three homers in a single contest in their own ballpark this season
03:13we should just let's just give him all the credit you know but now this is now and ted you
03:19have been
03:19on top of this since last week now we seem to have mixed messages about when the unfairly named savior
03:27will come back roman anthony so ted the team and the player don't seem to be on the same page
03:33do they
03:33not they do they do not which is uh it's interesting you brought this this point to our attention last
03:38week and i think you're you're spot on the more you kind of listen to it the more you're like
03:41yeah i think there's there's something to that i just think that uh there's a disconnect between
03:46the team uh and the manager and roman anthony and and when he should be coming back it feels as
03:52if the
03:52team thinks that he's good to go where roman is uh you know not so fast so yeah um we
04:01have some
04:01audio of chad tracy i i believe it was when we talked to him last week and i asked him
04:05about the status
04:06of chad tracy just listen to how he kind of talks about the status update of roman anthony and his
04:12injury um nothing new with roman other than to say he did re-see our specialist and also a second
04:17opinion there's nothing you know as far as like new like there's the healing is okay again it's just
04:23going to be a matter of that motion swinging when he feels like he can do it and we're going
04:27to wait
04:27until you know like i said before uh it's it's sore okay let's push through it that's not what we're
04:32going to do we're going to make sure that he can swing a bat and he's not having discomfort once
04:36we get to that point then we can start to push a little bit more um but he's not swinging
04:40today
04:40we're just going to take a day-to-day and see when we get to that point and there was
04:44there was also
04:44a chris cotillo i think last week made a report and used the term pain tolerance right and said that
04:50chad tracy had mentioned something along the lines of that it was a pain tolerance issue
04:53and also didn't you say that greg hill like got a uh a tip from somebody he did yeah scoop
05:00yeah and the scoop was that roman anthony had indeed torn the muscle in his finger right that
05:07seems to be the discrepancy is it torn is it sprained is it strained what's the degree of terror
05:10you know what does roman think it is what does the team think it is is he upset at the
05:14way it's being
05:15portrayed that whole kerfuffle and even on all that you know lou was on this morning with greg
05:21lou maloney with greg hill and talking about the roman thing and he was bringing up nomar and i think
05:26even
05:26if it is slightly torn you can still have an athlete that has the team thinks he's soft or
05:33should be back sooner yep right that should just play through this stuff yep because he talked about
05:36this with nomar where he was so paranoid about his hand he would just complain about it all the time
05:41and he was in his own head so maybe that's the way the team feels about i'm we're just speculating
05:45but
05:45you know can i just use that real quick as a i know that nomar story very well because it
05:50was actually
05:50used and belichick talked about that specific injury when he got injured he was only supposed
05:56to be out for a couple days yeah like four months later nomar came back yeah um it was just
06:03amazing
06:03he used that as a as a kind of example of why we don't talk about injuries because you don't
06:07want
06:08to say when you're coming back because if you say i'll be back in a couple days and then four
06:10months
06:11later it looks a thousand times worse but you know that's maybe not relevant to what we're talking
06:16about but the point is these injuries with the hand are are very particular and i i struggle with
06:22this because i can see whenever you swing the bat and hit the ball like a you know the shock
06:27of of
06:27the hitting the the ball yeah kind of kind of reverberating through your hands and not being
06:32real comfortable to swing the bat so i can see roman anthony's part of it but at the same time
06:38the
06:38season's slipping away and you can see why the team wants him to be out there i just okay so
06:42do you
06:43think that with this season that they're being in such a bad spot right now i'm just being at the
06:48bottom of the trash pile and it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of hope that they can get
06:51themselves out of it i mean 27 fan graphs odds isn't that hysterical as crazy as they are but but
06:59get ready because as i was mentioning this next stretch is tough like i mean they are facing some
07:04really tough teams so we'll see in a couple weeks from now just how bad they are so they got
07:09fifth the
07:10next five opponents they got 15 games the combined uh plus minus wins for those five teams they're
07:17plus 48 and wins so they they're playing the four out of the five teams are have records over 500
07:23so
07:24it's going to be the toughest stretch so far this year so would you would you rush back roman anthony
07:31the guy that is your savior the one that as i said unfairly yes all the pressure has been put
07:38on
07:38if you're craig breslow and your job's on the line yes roman get back in but if you're roman anthony
07:45doesn't that piss you off because what if you aren't right what if you feel that you aren't right
07:49are you rushing yourself back and as a fan do you want him rushed back i actually don't know enough
07:55about these finger injuries to to figure out whether or not if he aggravated again whether it
08:00would kind of was you know almost like a concussion would just be worse yeah you know i don't know
08:04how
08:05that but they're not saying if they're saying it's a pain tolerance issue they're not saying he
08:09could make it worse right that sounds but we hear that term whenever a unfairly a team is trying to
08:16push somebody through an injury and ted knows this i mean pain tolerance is something that gets leaked
08:21out when they think that a player is being a p-word yeah exactly you know and they're just like
08:26get out
08:26there and do your thing but but i mean they they're putting pressure on them in in subtle in subtle
08:31ways listen to uh specifically this is a phrase that uh chad tracy used this was over the weekend
08:36uh the audio we just played but just want to replay a part of what he said about uh the
08:41injury just
08:41listen about what he said when it comes to roman anthony when he feels like he can do it and
08:46we're
08:47gonna wait and when he feels like he can do it yeah when he feels like he can do it
08:50when he feels like
08:51he can do it that's that's basically putting all all of it on the play right there no it's it's
08:55a
08:55weird place right now for this team to be because as i said you're gonna you already know this team's
09:00not very good and there doesn't seem to be a way out of it and i just the next couple
09:05weeks it's
09:06just gonna get worse and it's hysterical that they're only three games out of the wild card
09:10it really is if they did swing a trade for one bat one legitimate hitter do you think it would
09:14make
09:14a difference like they are losing a lot of close games it's a very tough call listen i just read
09:19that stat if they were 500 at home they'd be fourth in the american league so maybe maybe you just
09:25need
09:25one big bat they're someone to clear the bases because god knows they get on base a whole hell of
09:30a lot
09:30they just are addicted to leaving them out there looking guys stranded byron buxton who we talked
09:35about friday hit a two-run homers flip the game around friday night slayton you know they hit two
09:39two-run homers which helps you have four home runs from your dh all year four that is embarrassing
09:44how does that happen it's almost impossible it is i know and at fenway total it is plus fenway
09:51you know what the sad part is though like they had a problem with the dh last year in the
09:55playoffs
09:56rome gonzalez would play dh yeah right that was your dh in the playoffs last year look at their
10:00infield now they're platooning guys at third i mean you got uh the guy they traded for durbin who's
10:05like he and so guard flip-flop based on the who the hitter is they're kind of putting meyer at
10:10short
10:10but they're not quite confident in him they just have a big question mark in the infield so that's
10:15i keep going back to katel martin i the one of the guys from the herald back cerullo uh threw
10:20out
10:20bo bichette from the mets because the mets are one of the only teams as bad as you they're 10
10:24games under
10:24they paid him a fortune for him they three years and like 140 million they overpaid for him would
10:30you just for one year get bo bichette here he can opt out at the end of the year pay
10:34him a prorated
10:3645 million bucks just to inject some life into the team and put him it short is that's that's a
10:40kind
10:41of a quick fix right is is there is it a is he a piece of a long-term plan
10:44he could be better if it
10:46was you'd have to convince him to not opt out how many times have they have had pressure to do
10:50something they do and maybe it's an irrational decision it turns out to be a bad decision
10:54later i you know i look hey ken i want to have there to be a season so i mean
10:58who am i let's
10:59have a summer i would love for them to go do something i feel like they need it's got to
11:03be
11:03a significant bat though right it can't just be you know a minor upgrade it's got to be a big
11:08bat
11:08you get in the lineup
11:09you get in the lineup
