Baseball Brett joins the show to talk Red Sox! Could the recent Sox losing streak change the Red Sox Trade Deadline plans? Does this put more importance on a trade, or does it mean they should sell?

00:04I think it's a combination.

00:05I think their leads are a combination of both.

00:07I think, I would say that the players are not performing.

00:12They've blown five saves in four games since returning from the All-Star break.

00:17That's tough to do.

00:18So I would say that, yes, the players aren't performing, but I would also say they need

00:22an upgrade in some of the talent on the team.

00:25So that's, I would just combine the two of them.

00:27But aren't you nervous that this little run here in the wrong direction gives John Henry

00:36an excuse when it comes to not investing?

00:39Yes, yeah, I do.

00:43And that would be, again, though, see the thing I think they're trying to avoid, that

00:45would be like three years in a row or three of the last four years in a row doing the

00:49same exact thing, right?

00:51So the one year that they did invest was the year that they made a pretty good run.

00:55They got Carl Schwarber, and they picked up a couple of nice pieces, and they made

00:59a little run, and they brought some excitement back.

01:02I think the time is now that they can certainly capture the excitement of the town.

01:07There's really not going a lot.

01:08I don't think there's much excitement with the Patriots in training camp.

01:11So I honestly think they could capture that magic.

01:15I don't think it takes a lot.

01:17They're $12.5 million under that luxury tax, right, that CBT.

01:22So they can bring on money and stay under that.

01:27They can bring on talent.

01:28I think we all know what they need.

01:30It's just a matter of whether they're going to commit the resources to doing it.

01:33And I don't think the resources are money.

01:36Isn't it frustrating, Brett, that literally every other year with this ownership group,

01:41a little bit of a losing streak before the deadline would actually be more of an impetus

01:47to do something instead of less?

01:49It's the most frustrating.

01:51Because all they need to do, I mean, like Shyam said, you should go the other way, right?

01:55You should be trying to explore.

01:58I mean, we're eight days away from the training deadline.

02:00You should try to be exploring every opportunity to help put players back

02:06into the program to make your team better.

02:09You know what I mean?

02:10It's like they're looking for reasons to not invest, which as a fan, it's frustrating.

02:15Where you should be going the exact opposite way.
