00:00No triggers. That's not my thing. It basically just sends the kick drum signal through my bum, basically.
00:06And I just get that right in the ass every time that I hit it.
00:35Hey everybody, Ali Richardson here, drummer for Bleed From Within and Silosis, and today I'm going to give you a
00:41rig rundown.
00:42I'm going to show you the drum kit that I'm using on the Zenith North American Headline Tour.
00:47For those of you that don't know, I'm pulling double duty on this tour, so I'm playing drums for Bleed
00:51From Within and Silosis.
00:52It's about 2 hours every night, 45 minutes with Silosis, then a 20 minute changeover, and then an hour and
00:5915 with Bleed From Within.
01:00It's been very intense, still kind of early on the tour, which is why I look fresh faced, still.
01:05No fucking new frown lines or stress marks anywhere.
01:09But one of the main reasons why I'm feeling great is because I get to play this drum kit every
01:14day.
01:14It's literally my dream kit. My drum kit is Yamaha, the brand I use.
01:21I've been with Yamaha since 2010, and I think since about 2016 I've been using this specific line of drums,
01:28which is the Yamaha Hybrid Oak.
01:32It is the sound that has been in my head with drums since, you know, when I heard the kit
01:37I knew that was the sound that I wanted.
01:39Do you know what I mean? I found it, and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to play this
01:43every single night for two hours. It's great fun.
01:45So the main kit, Hybrid Oak, we have a 22x16 kick drum. You'll notice I only use one. This pisses
01:52everybody off, and I fucking love it.
01:54I use a double pedal and a single kick for reasons that really don't concern you, just because I prefer
02:00it, and it annoys you.
02:02The second one is just for show. I've got the 10, 12, 16, 18 inch toms here. And yeah, all
02:09that together, just the shell, that shell package is incredible.
02:13The toms are thunderous. The kick drum actually has some added weights on the inside that enhance the low ends.
02:19It's incredible punch, incredible body.
02:22Typically your kick drums are 22x18. I opt for the 22x16 because I feel that they respond better to the
02:27more intricate kind of foot patterns and stuff that I play.
02:30And yeah, I guess a little known fact about the Hybrid Oak. The name Hybrid comes from a phenolic kind
02:36of layer of resin that they run inside the drums.
02:39I don't know if you'll be able to see this in the camera, but there's a thin black line here.
02:43So this is a sort of man-made component that runs on the inside of an oak shell.
02:48What that does exactly, I'm not sure, but it just sounds fucking great, as I'm sure you will agree.
02:53So next up is the snare. Again, this is Yamaha. I've got about three or four of these now in
02:57constant rotation, some in Europe, some over here.
03:00This is the Yamaha recording custom brass snare, 14x6.5. Now I have done some customizations here. I've added die
03:08cast hoops on the top and bottom.
03:09And on the inside of the shell, which you can't see, I've added these things called tone wings. Maybe we
03:15can cut to them afterwards or I'll make sure that Josh here can get a shot to show you.
03:18But they're basically like laser cut pieces of brass that attach to the inside of the shell. They add mass
03:23and weight so I can basically keep the same high tuning range that I like.
03:27But they have some added body now as well, which our front of house engineer absolutely loves.
03:32So yeah, that's the snare. It is my pride and joy. I've used that for a very, very long time
03:37and it responds incredibly well to my playing.
03:40Very dynamic, but so much power and attack when I'm playing and the style of music as well, which is
03:46very important.
03:47Heads, shout out to Dario Family, Evans Loyal. It's the company that I've used for as long as I knew
03:53what a drum head was.
03:54I was just drawn towards them. I'm not sure what it was at first, but I've used them for 20
03:59odd years.
04:01On the Tom batters here, we have the G2 clears. On the resonant heads for the first time, actually I
04:07only changed this year just because I wanted to change it up aesthetically.
04:11Chrome resos, I think they're called. So these are just like, they're just black. They're not see through.
04:16And from, especially when you're up on the riser, you can kind of see the bottom of the kit.
04:20Just aesthetically, it's kind of cool. You know what I mean? I'm a fucking mosher. I love everything to be
04:24blacked out.
04:25So yeah, we've got those chrome resos on the back, which are a nice touch because the inside of the
04:29drums are also dyed black as well.
04:31So it's just pretty metal when you're looking from the top here.
04:35Snare head, ST dry. Again, that's the head that I've used for so long.
04:40Before that, I was using the HD dry. When I added the die-cast hoops, it kind of changed my
04:44attack angle slightly.
04:45I ended up pitting the HD drives really quickly. So I moved to ST and that's been incredible.
04:50I use a Hazy 300 on the resonant side. And on the kick drum, Evans EMAD 2 with thick dampening
04:56rings and a little clear EQ patch on there as well.
05:01I don't know if you want to know anything else about the kick drum, but I also have a kicker
05:05pad in there, which is like a pre-cut bit of like polystyrene foam.
05:09That's all the dampening I have in there. It's not too much because I actually like to keep the resonant
05:13sound of the drum.
05:13I do not trigger my drums. The unit that you see there is the Yamaha EAD-10 and I use
05:19that purely for content.
05:20It plugs straight into my phone or my drum tech Josh's phone and we just capture really quick content onto
05:25it.
05:26No triggers. That's not my thing.
05:29Meinl, German efficiency at its finest. I absolutely love the company. We've been together for about five years now.
05:38Over here we have the Pure Alloy Custom 18-inch China.
05:45This is the Pure Alloy Custom Trash Crash 18-inch.
05:50Byzance Medium Thin 19.
05:53This is a 10-inch dual splash.
05:56Byzance 14-inch medium hats.
05:59Classic Custom 16-inch Trash Crash.
06:01This is just a standard Byzance 10-inch splash.
06:03This is a medium 18-inch Pure Alloy Custom.
06:08God, such a mouthful.
06:10Pure Alloy Custom 20-inch Crash over there.
06:12I think this is medium heavy.
06:15Yeah, that's the medium heavy one.
06:17Typically I prefer the media weight symbols, but in the 20-inch that's actually really nice under the stick.
06:21So I have kept that in.
06:23This is the 18-inch Pure Alloy Custom Trash China.
06:28This is a devastating symbol.
06:29It's not even from their top line, which is Byzance, but this just sounds incredible.
06:33It's so aggressive.
06:33Lots of attack.
06:35And then the 14-inch Fast Hats from Byzance.
06:38This is a pride and joy though.
06:40This is a concept model.
06:41R&D.
06:42There's only one in existence in the world.
06:44And it belongs to me.
06:46When I moved to Maino, I said that I wanted to try and...
06:50The sound that I had in my head, they didn't have with any existing symbols.
06:53And they pulled this out the depths of some fucking storage unit in Germany.
06:57And they hand-delivered it to me at my home in the UK.
07:00And I fell in love with it right away.
07:02It's been on every album since I joined.
07:03And that is the only one on the planet.
07:06We're talking about maybe making some more, so...
07:09Watch this space.
07:10So moving on from symbols, which by the way, shout out Joe at Maino.
07:14I forgot to mention him there.
07:14He is my fucking guy.
07:16Absolute legend.
07:17And Jason at Yamaha.
07:19We didn't say thanks to him.
07:20And Adam at Daddario.
07:22Just whilst we're here.
07:22Get everyone in.
07:24Hardware.
07:25We're doing Yamaha as well.
07:26I use the Hexrac system.
07:29A lot of people give drum racks a hard time.
07:31But...
07:32I don't understand that myself.
07:33I absolutely love it.
07:34It doesn't fucking move.
07:35It's the exact same every night.
07:37It's a solid DC kit.
07:38And it actually takes up very little floor space.
07:41That doesn't come off of my carpet that I have on this riser.
07:43It's very, very compact.
07:45Considering the size of the kind of setup.
07:47And you wouldn't be able to do that with traditional stands.
07:49So...
07:50Fuck all y'all.
07:51That doubt the rack system.
07:53Perils.
07:53We've got Yamaha FP9.
07:55Again,
07:56I've used these...
07:57I was using another brand of pedal for a long time.
08:00And Yamaha wanted me to try theirs.
08:02Wasn't really gelling with anything.
08:03When they released the FP9 they sent me a set.
08:05Before they were commercially available.
08:07This is no word of a lie.
08:08I used them at a sound check.
08:10Just tried them out.
08:11They felt that good out of the box that I kept them on for that show.
08:14And I've used them ever since.
08:15So I've got a few sets of them.
08:17Some spares.
08:18Other ones that I keep at different studios back in the UK.
08:21They're incredible.
08:22I have some wooden beaters on there.
08:24I use the FP9 hi-hat stand as well.
08:26It's just very responsive.
08:28It's great.
08:29Sticks.
08:30Again, this is the Dario.
08:31So...
08:32Promark.
08:34Forward Hickory 2Bs.
08:35I've used these for...
08:37Since 2010, I think.
08:40So 16 years now.
08:41I've been using the same set of stick.
08:43They have asked if I want to make custom things.
08:47Nothing feels as good as that in the hands.
08:49They're just off the shelf.
08:51Standard Hickory 2Bs.
08:52Great sticks in the market.
08:54Just feels like an extension of my arm.
08:58Erm...
08:58Yeah.
08:59Thrown.
08:59I guess.
09:00I'll give a shout out to Porter and Davis here.
09:02I run the BC2.
09:03This is an incredible piece of engineering.
09:05Erm...
09:05Incredibly responsive.
09:07It basically just sends the kick drum signal through my bum basically.
09:11And I just get that right in the ass every time that I hit it.
09:14Erm...
09:15Which sounds crazy but it's an incredible way of monitoring yourself.
09:20And...
09:20It just...
09:21It saves you having like a massive subwoofer behind you so...
09:25I...
09:25The only way to describe it is I feel like an absolute king when you come up here.
09:28You could be in the world's smallest venue but you have this thing running whenever you hit your kick drum.
09:32It just sounds like you're in fucking Wembley Stadium or something.
09:35You know what I mean?
09:35It's incredible.
09:36So that combined with...
09:38The monitoring.
09:3964 audio here.
09:41I've got the A12.
09:42So these are 12 drivers.
09:43Got a little Danny Carey logo here.
09:45And a bit of John Bonham from Zeppelin.
09:47Two of the OG power players that I got into when I first started playing drums.
09:51Try and channel a bit of their energy when I'm playing.
09:53But erm...
09:54These in-ear monitors combined with this still system.
09:57Like the monitoring is just next level.
09:59And it completely transformed the way that I played when I upgraded to this system about a year ago.
10:03So...
10:03Shout out to them.
10:04So yeah.
10:05I guess final point.
10:06You might have noticed the triggers on the toms.
10:08As I mentioned earlier, I do not trigger my performances in any way.
10:11We use these for the gates in front of house.
10:14Because the cymbals are so close to the drums.
10:16This just really helps the spot making.
10:18So whenever I hit the tom, it opens up this mic channel here.
10:22And like I said before, this is used for content.
10:25So thanks for checking out my rig rundown.
10:28Erm...
10:28Once again, shout out to Yamaha.
10:30Shout out to Mino.
10:30Shout out Evans and Promark.
10:32They've supported me for so long.
10:33Absolutely love everyone that I work with at those companies.
10:36Erm...
10:36Yeah.
10:37Check out Bleed From Within.
10:38Check out Cylosis.
10:39Websites are easy enough to find on Google.
10:41Check us out on social media.
10:42We're going to be touring a hell of a lot over the coming years.
10:45Erm...
10:45Yeah.
10:46Come and see the kit in person.
10:47No.
10:48Step Afterwards.
11:00No.
11:02HC.
11:031
11:03neuropяться as hol escape.
11:03Now everything's in place.
11:05Precisely.
11:06I'll notice what happens on the Sith's fore definitions.
11:07Not against them, you can avoid that with people Jakarta Catholic California
11:09I'll just look at you.
11:09Man的话 dog.
11:10You can watch those láifers.
11:12And I'll actually show you.
11:12Let's love you.
