00:00Sometimes it's a bit of a nightmare. I break probably three of these a tour.
00:04I put DW beaters on my pedals just because they got a lot more weight to them.
00:08This thing is comfy as hell. I love the time I've thrown.
00:30Hi guys, this is Aiden Kerr. I play drums for Mushroom Head.
00:42Today we are at the Vixen in McHenry, Illinois.
00:47Today we're going to go through the kit. Give a good rundown.
00:52Starting off, it's a Thomas Starr Classic.
00:56These are all maple shells. The sizes are 22 inch kick drums.
01:03First rag tom is a 10 inch, then a 12 and 16 and 18.
01:11The snare is a 14 by 7.
01:15That is my backup. Unfortunately I broke my main, but I'll be repairing that later today.
01:21So hopefully we'll get that back on there.
01:23The snare is also a Thomas Starr Classic. It's a maple.
01:26Now it's already set up like that.
01:27Yep, it's just like the kit. It matches everything.
01:30So the matte black finish and everything.
01:32Let's save this as it is so that...
01:33Super sick.
01:34So for the rag toms, I like to keep them a bit tighter just so they cut through.
01:38I've heard they added that.
01:39Some people might say they're a little too high, but I like them to cut.
01:43And then my floor toms, I tune a little bit on the lower end just to get that FUD.
01:48So the snare is cranked on the top and then the bottom is pretty loose.
01:54So I got a lot of crack, but also still the low end of it cuts through.
01:59The snare, I've been going through a couple different snare heads.
02:02This one I'm on right now is the heavyweight.
02:05I've been messing around with the heavyweight dry.
02:08That's also a really nice one.
02:10The toms, we got EC2s all across.
02:15So those heads are sick.
02:17And then on the bottom we got the, I believe it's black chrome, I think they are, the reso heads.
02:24So I've been experimenting with all kinds of cymbals for this tour.
02:27Just kind of trying something new every night just to really find what sounds I like.
02:32It's completely changed from the last tour.
02:34We were using the A heavies, but they were a little too clunky for me.
02:38So I've been starting to break out some of the K series.
02:41A lot of these are really nice.
02:43This is the K special dry crash, 18 inch.
02:47This thing is awesome.
02:48It's got a lot of bite to it.
02:49So it's really just for accents and stuff.
02:52I'm not playing it too much, but it cuts through really nice.
02:55And then I got the matching splash down there.
02:57It's a 10 inch.
02:58It's got the same bite.
03:00I really love the dry cymbals.
03:02The hats, usually I use 14 master sounds, but I'm switching to the case suites.
03:0915 inch.
03:10These things are awesome.
03:11I keep biting my knuckles on them, but they're sick.
03:14They sound awesome.
03:15So we're keeping them.
03:17Over here, we've got an A custom crash, 18 inch.
03:21Then the oriental mini china.
03:24This thing is fucking awesome.
03:26Love it.
03:27Cuts through everything.
03:29Super fun for fills.
03:30Over here, K custom hybrid, 19 inch crash.
03:36This one I've been fluctuating.
03:38I've been going back and forth between a 19A custom and the K custom hybrid.
03:42Still trying to figure out what I really, really want to do.
03:46But for now, this is what we're going with.
03:49Then we've got the 18 inch cluster crash.
03:52Also the K series.
03:54Those things are sweet.
03:55Love it.
03:56Honestly thinking about putting it all across the board, but maybe next door.
04:01And then I've got the K dark ride.
04:05That thing is awesome.
04:06I was using the mega bell for a while because that thing, it's a monster if you know the
04:12mega bell, you know.
04:13But we're switching to this just because I can crash on it a little bit more, bring more
04:18life out of it.
04:19Sometimes there's dynamic parts where I really want to bring a lot of emotion out of the
04:23cymbal and this really allows me to do it.
04:26It's got a lot of wash.
04:28Sounds great.
04:29Then for these hi-hats, these things are probably older than me.
04:35They've been around ever since I've been around.
04:38The special recording, 13 inch.
04:40Those are an auxiliary pair.
04:42Always keep them closed.
04:44A lot of it's just for like counting in between songs and stuff.
04:48Just making sure everybody's locked in.
04:51And then my china.
04:52Right now I'm using the K custom hybrid.
04:54This thing is awesome.
04:55I love it.
04:56I've been bouncing back and forth between that and the ultra hammered, the A china.
05:02That one is also just bright as hell.
05:05We've got some candy right here.
05:07The Haichu.
05:08It's grape.
05:09Can't do that.
05:10We've got Promark fire grains.
05:13These are two B's.
05:15I've switched back and forth between five and two.
05:18And I keep ending up on two B's just because it's got a little more weight.
05:22They're a little denser.
05:23You know.
05:24I hit a little hard sometimes.
05:25So those seem to last me well.
05:28We've got the Iron Cobra pedals for the kicks.
05:31And then the Speed Cobra for the hi-hat.
05:34I put DW beaters on my pedals just because they've got a lot more weight to them than
05:39the normal Iron Cobra ones.
05:41Just because I like powering through everything.
05:44You know.
05:45Just having that weight really helps just get comfortable.
05:48You know.
05:49That's what I'm used to.
05:50So just keep that as a staple.
05:52So here's my personal monitoring and everything.
05:56I don't have these powered on right now.
05:58But this is for both of my kick drums.
06:01So instead of doing a splitter I'm just doing one and one.
06:04So these go to my kicks.
06:06And then this one is for my snare.
06:08So I've got a snare trigger.
06:10And then I've got a mic on top and bottom.
06:13So there's a blend between all three for the actual sound that's coming through.
06:17And you know.
06:19Talking through it with our sound guy we just felt like that's the most comfortable.
06:23You know.
06:24It cuts through everything.
06:25It's clear as day.
06:26And with the kick triggers you know.
06:28Just having that relationship you know.
06:30Where they both cut through the whole mix.
06:32It just really sounds awesome.
06:34So I'm glad that we switched to that.
06:37This thing is comfy as hell.
06:39I love the Tama Throne.
06:41Definitely just whatever you know.
06:44You're playing a lot.
06:45Sitting up here for hours on end.
06:47You've got to be comfy.
06:48So love this thing.
06:50It's a good seat.
06:51Yeah this is also Tama.
06:53Everything on the kit pretty much is Tama.
06:56Yeah it's all Tama hardware.
06:58This rack it's a fucking monster man.
07:01It holds everything well.
07:02I don't really have any play in anything.
07:05Every day I set it up and it's just what it is.
07:07You know it's reliable as hell.
07:09So definitely happy to use.
07:12Like I said Tama.
07:13Evans.
07:14Promark.
07:15Zildjian.
07:16Roland for the triggers.
07:19Shure for in-ears.
07:20Those are the companies.
07:22So yeah I use.
07:24These are just the standard Shure 215 in-ears.
07:28If I'm going to be honest.
07:30Playing with the mask on.
07:32It traps a lot of moisture in there.
07:35So.
07:36Ugh.
07:37Sometimes it's a bit of a nightmare.
07:39I break probably three of these a tour.
07:41So I.
07:42You know I'm just flying through them unfortunately.
07:45But.
07:46They work.
07:47You know.
07:48My mix is mostly kick and click.
07:50So a lot of what I'm hearing is just.
07:52Beep boop boop boop.
07:53Beep boop boop.
07:54So I don't need like.
07:56The craziest in-ears in the world.
07:57You know.
07:58Like I said.
07:59These are just.
08:00Standard.
08:01They work.
08:02They're reliable.
08:03By.
08:04Three pairs a tour.
08:05This just seems to make sense.
08:07So.
08:08Right now.
08:09We're just out promoting.
08:10Call the Devil.
08:11The new record.
08:12We got.
08:13Whole new masks.
08:14I mean.
08:15Everything's.
08:16Pretty updated.
08:17So.
08:18Come check it out.
08:19And if you want to follow me.
08:20On Instagram.
08:21It is.
08:22IllegalAlienAids.
08:23And then.
08:24On Facebook.
08:25It's.
