00:10Welcome to MojoPlays and today we're looking at the most frustrating bosses in Resident Evil,
00:15but not the main entries, the ones that don't get talked about enough. These are the 10 hardest
00:19bosses in Resident Evil spin-offs. Let's go. Before we continue, we publish content all week
00:25long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:32Skaggedead Resident Evil Revelations
00:45For a handheld focus spin-off, Resident Evil Revelations put way more effort into its monsters
00:50than anybody probably expected, and the Skaggedead is easily one of the best examples.
00:54The thing looks like somebody fused a deep-sea nightmare with a butcher shop accident and
00:59then gave it a chainsaw just to make everyone's day worse. What makes the fight so memorable is
01:03how aggressive the Skaggedead is despite its massive size. Normally in Resident Evil,
01:07a big arena and explosive barrels would make players feel safer, but here they mostly create
01:12the illusion that you're in control before the monster starts sprinting at you like an angry
01:16refrigerator with legs. The fight constantly forces players to stay moving and take advantage of tiny
01:21openings whenever they appear. Let the Skaggedead get too close and your health bar basically
01:25evaporates on contact thanks to that grotesque chainsaw arm. Did I mention that it has a chainsaw arm?
01:31I did. Did I? It has a chainsaw arm.
01:39Ivan Twins, Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles
01:42Oh, I almost forgot. Here are a few of my old friends I'd like to introduce you to.
01:55Unless you're a full-blown Resident Evil historian who willingly spends free time explaining Umbrella
02:00timelines to confused friends, there's a decent chance you skip The Umbrella Chronicles and The
02:04Darkside Chronicles. These spin-offs traded the normal survival horror gameplay for on-rails
02:09shooting while retelling major events from across the series and sneaking in extra lore for long-time
02:13fans. A lot of Ada lore, for instance. Hidden inside all that fan service is one of the nastiest
02:20boss fights Capcom quietly buried in the franchise, the Ivan Twins. These tyrant variants only appear
02:26in The Umbrella Chronicles, but they leave an impression immediately because they fight like
02:30absolute lunatics. Unlike the slower tyrants, players we're used to, the Ivins are fast,
02:34aggressive and constantly in your face. Alex Wesker, Resident Evil Revelations 2.
02:51Wesker!
02:58The final battle against Alex Wesker, yes Wesker has a sister, in Resident Evil Revelations 2 feels
03:04less like a normal boss fight and more like the game personally deciding it's tired of seeing you
03:09happy. Her mutated final form is unbelievably aggressive from the second the fight begins,
03:14constantly charging at the player, swinging wildly and forcing non-stop movement around the rooftop
03:20arena. There's basically no downtime whatsoever. Reloading even for a second feels dangerous because
03:26Alex is always one bad dodge away from turning your health bar into a memory. What makes the fight
03:30especially brutal is the placement of her weak points. Landing solid shots often means getting
03:35dangerously close to her attacks, so every successful hit feels like you're gambling with
03:39your actual life. Add in limited healing supplies, shrinking ammo reserves and multiple increasingly
03:45chaotic phases, and the whole encounter becomes a marathon that you need to pace yourself through.
04:05One of the cruelest things about the classic Resident Evil games is how brutally they punish first
04:10playthroughs. Since survival horror is built around resource management, players never really know what's
04:16waiting around the corner or how much ammo they should actually be saving. I recently played RE0 for
04:21the first time and found it especially brutal when compared to other entries. That becomes especially
04:26clear when players run into the Queen-Leech fight. By that point a lot of players have already burned
04:31through most of their supplies, surviving the train, the mansion and the endless parade of nightmare
04:35creatures the game throws at them. Suddenly you reach the final boss and realize you're carrying about
04:40three bullets, half a healing item and pure regret.
04:49Nosferatu Resident Evil Code Veronica
04:58I hate to keep mentioning this, I'm playing all the Resident Evil games chronologically so I kind of have
05:03to, but I did this fight literally this morning for the first time and god was it tough. The Nosferatu
05:09fight in Resident Evil Code Veronica is one of those boss battles that feels stressful before the
05:14monster even starts attacking. The entire encounter takes place on a narrow icy platform hanging above
05:20the Antarctic base, which means the arena itself is basically trying to kill you alongside the boss.
05:25One badly timed movement near the edge can instantly send Claire falling to her death. Nosferatu only makes
05:30things worse by attacking from long range with giant tentacle swings and poisonous gas clads that
05:36constantly force players to reposition. The problem is repositioning safely is incredibly difficult when
05:41the camera angles are fighting you almost as aggressively as the boss. On top of all that,
05:45players need to carefully target Nosferatu's weak point while under pressure, which is hard because
05:49you can't see until you're close enough to be hit, and you can't aim when you're standing in poison gas,
05:55which is everywhere, and you can't move while you shoot. It honestly feels like it was designed wrong.
06:18I almost never rage quit games, but Resident Evil Dead Aim absolutely pushed me to that point thanks to
06:25its final boss, Morpheus. Dead Aim was part of the old Gun Survivor spin-off series, meaning it was
06:30designed around using an actual light gun on a CRT television, like some kind of arcade cabinet from
06:35hell. Technically you can still play it with a normal controller, but the game clearly resents you for
06:40trying. The Morpheus fight becomes a complete nightmare because his weak point instantly moves
06:45around while he slowly advances towards the player. Trying to accurately hit that thing using an
06:50analog stick feels like attempting surgery during an earthquake. And to make things worse, Morpheus
06:55becomes more aggressive the lower his health gets, so the fight slowly transforms into pure panic.
07:00The cruelest part, if not all of that, comes right near the end when he suddenly launches into a deadly
07:05rushing attack that can instantly kill you before you fully process what happened. Dying means starting
07:10again, from the very beginning. Cap, come on.
07:19Ultimate Abyss Resident Evil Revelations
07:26Morgan! Morgan Lansdale!
07:28The Ultimate Abyss fight at the end of Revelations feels like the game looked at the player nearing the
07:32finish line and decided they hadn't suffered quite enough yet. After Jack Norman injects himself with
07:37the T-Abyss virus, he transforms into this gigantic nightmare creature that basically attacks like
07:43pure panic given physical form. The boss is constantly lunging around the arena with huge claw swipes,
07:49ranged attacks, and sudden rushes that can erase your health frighteningly fast if you lose focus
07:54for even a second. What makes the fight especially exhausting is how aggressive the Ultimate Abyss stays
08:00throughout the entire battle. There's barely any breathing room, and the arena never truly feels safe
08:05because the creature can close distance almost instantly. Luckily, it's got a tiny health pool.
08:10Wait, that can't be right. Let me check my notes. No, massive health pool. It has a massive health pool.
08:22Alexia Ashford Resident Evil Code Veronica.
08:26You are not worthy of its power!
08:38Code Veronica was supposed to push the series forward after the original trilogy, but instead
08:44it doubled down on a lot of old-school frustrations. Frustrations that earned it
08:48so many spots on this list. One thing that everyone remembers is Alexia Ashford, who somehow manages to
08:54be both ridiculous and terrifying at the same time. At first glance, she just seems like another dramatic
08:59aristocrat villain straight out of a gothic soap opera, but her boss fight quickly becomes absolute chaos.
09:05Her humanoid form alone is brutal thanks to the way she traps players with walls of fire
09:09while threatening instant death if she lands her horrifying grab attack, but then the game decides
09:14that's apparently not stressful enough and transforms her into a giant insect queen nightmare
09:18that takes up half the goddamn arena. Suddenly, poison is raining everywhere, mutant lava
09:22are pouring into the fight, and players are desperately trying not to get overwhelmed.
09:39The T-078 Resident Evil Code Veronica
09:50The infamous plane tyrant from Resident Evil Code Veronica has probably ended more blind
09:54playthroughs than almost any other boss in the franchise. Veteran fans still talk about this
09:59fight with the kind of exhausted tone, usually reserved for surviving natural disasters. What makes
10:04the encounter so brutal is how perfectly it combines every stressful part of classic Resident Evil design
10:09into one big old miserable package. The battle takes place inside a cramped airplane cabin,
10:15meaning Claire has almost no room to maneuver while the tyrant aggressively stomps towards her
10:19like it personally paid for the flight. If players didn't carefully conserve ammo the entire game,
10:24things become even worse because this fight appears with almost no warning. Plenty of first-time
10:29players arrive carrying barely enough supplies to survive a normal hallway encounter, let alone a giant
10:34super-powered monster. Tyrant hits incredibly hard, constantly pressures the player, and can easily trap
10:41Claire in tight spaces if panic starts kicking in. On a blind run, the fight almost feels cruel because
10:47there's a genuine chance the encounter can completely ruin your save file if you're underprepared. If you don't
10:53trust the agony of it, here's real footage of me breaking a controller.
10:56I got stuck in a f***ing corner again!
11:01Infected Bat Resident Evil Zero
11:07Resident Evil really does have an impressive history of turning ordinary animals into complete
11:12nightmares, and the giant bat in Resident Evil Zero is one of the most annoying examples.
11:16After already dealing with giant scorpions and all the other horrors littered throughout the game,
11:21players eventually run into this oversized flying menace that someone manages to make basic movement
11:26feel impossible. On paper, the fight doesn't sound too terrible. In practice, it becomes a complete
11:31disaster because the boss spends most of the battle airborne in a game released long before aiming at
11:35flying enemies felt remotely comfortable. Trying to line up shots while the bat swoops around the
11:40room is frustrating enough already, but then the creature starts slamming into Rebecca or Billy with
11:45attacks that hits so goddamn hard and can easily chain into stun locks if players panic. And just to make
11:51absolutely sure nobody enjoys themselves, smaller bats constantly swarm the arena too. Fun!
