00:04all right look um as kate said after the game that game sucked and it was
00:13highly anticipated detroit was amped up and unfortunately it feels like one of the greatest
00:19letdowns in the history of detroit sports to have a game seven at home
00:24and as you put it there in the crosstalk uncompetitive scott and no um
00:31they never made a run they never made it interesting that was that was it was horrific
00:37it was it was awful i kept waiting for that run i i think they got it to 15
00:43that was the best they did um this was not the team that we had seen certainly during the regular
00:52season it was not the team we we haven't seen that team play that badly they didn't play that badly
00:56in any of the playoff games i mean there were some games where they were disappointing but not
01:00i mean that was i'd left after the third quarter and i'm in my car i should say i'm waiting
01:07to get
01:07out of to get out of downtown detroit because it was a gridlock traffic for a minute there um
01:13and and i heard george give the score and you know me and math it's not good
01:19but when i heard that it was 110 to 80 well that's easy math
01:25they're down 30 points in the fourth quarter of game seven at home
01:29it's a clown show and cleveland rubbed their noses in it i mean they really did
01:35it was a tough so many different ways i mean you had the what seemed like thousands of cavalier fans
01:42that were there was one thing they were a vocal group i don't know if there was anywhere
01:45probably between one and three thousand cav fans because they had the the reported 25 buses or
01:51whatever um but that was that's bad enough but then you know you're getting clowned on during the
01:57game where you're trying to make adjustments you're giving people a chance and no matter who comes in
02:03the game it didn't it didn't matter guys dunking all over the place they're flipping and flopping
02:09and getting the calls and the pistons can't shoot and then you're down by over 30 and they're
02:16challenging calls on the court i mean did that happen yeah they're putting in the walk-ons and
02:21they're celebrating all their bombs like it was it it was just a nightmare it was just an absolute
02:27nightmare there was nothing if you think of the worst case scenario that was that was kind of it
02:33everything went wrong and you know you think back to massively disappointing moments in in sports
02:42history for locally detroit michigan michigan state whatever it is uh and this one's this one's right
02:49up there candidate for the worst and you know there's a like this stuff can happen in sports and it's
02:57happened before it happened a couple years ago to phoenix um but at the end of the day it's just
03:02it's it's massively disappointing i mean you've got we've had series that have been disappointing
03:08but for a single game this is i'm trying to reconcile if it's worse than losing game seven
03:18of the stanley cup finals okay but because i remember that i mean that that that's for a
03:22championship and this is just to advance to the next round but i mean at least in the in the
03:28stanley cup finals you're losing to the team that actually won and they won and it sucks that they
03:32won in your your home ice and all that but and the red wings didn't really show up in that
03:37game
03:38that was the most boring was it two to one or something you know for people missed or don't
03:43remember 2009 game seven stanley cup finals at the joe the pit the the red wings and penguins
03:50had played this really pretty competitive series and and then game seven looked like a completely
03:55different game the red wings looked like they were skating in mud and but it was yet it was a
04:01close
04:01it was two nothing to till to was it maxine talbot scored but he scored both goals and then and
04:07the
04:07red wings about 10 minutes left made it two to one and but no pressure and and and but in
04:14the end
04:14they hit a post they pulled the goal in uh didn't lidstrom hit a post and it was like and
04:18and so
04:19whatever i mean it was one of those deals where it it just wasn't in the cards but the game
04:24was
04:25close on the scoreboard even though they they played horrifically in that game this one i mean
04:33like how do you know showing games like this it was and everyone has has a piece of the pie
04:38for the
04:39blame you know danis danis jenkins knocks down his first two shots or three-point shots and then
04:44doesn't hit another one until halfway through the third quarter or whatever it was or into the third
04:48quarter doesn't score until then uh kate cunningham didn't have a very good night that's putting a
04:54mildly going five of 16 for the field he was minus 32 in the game tobias harris didn't make a
05:01shot
05:03and you know for the guy who had scored eight or nine straight games at 20 plus was awesome what
05:08a
05:08great turnaround story it was uh the last three games he played were were terrible and this was
05:13the worst one of the bunch going 0 for 6 from the field only making free throws in the game
05:17um you know assar thompson was was nowhere offensively jalen duran went back into his shell
05:26it was so bad there's just nothing to get you going and then i this was this was a confusing
05:33game
05:34it's this is a confusing series to see who got playing time who didn't it seemed indiscriminate at
05:40times like and i get the jb's trying to find an answer from one game to the next but it
05:45looked
05:45like they had an answer and then they they change and i don't know it's a game that shouldn't have
05:49been played well i'm not gonna go there but i understand what you're saying the pistons should
05:56have closed out the nine point lead in game five the pistons should have taken the three nothing lead
06:01in game three like the the the the tear of regret into the pillow of remorse today for me is
06:07about
06:07those two games it's about those two games more than it is this one because it shouldn't have ever
06:12got to this and it did and i don't want to you know one of the worst things that you
06:18can do is not
06:18credit the other team cleveland deserves credit for winning those games but you think back to even no
06:24matter how good a team is to have a nine point lead with a couple minutes to go and and
06:29not close
06:30them out when any one of a play on the offensive end or defensive end would have finished them off
06:36and the pistons couldn't dial that play up in game three they had charged all the way back
06:41they'd gotten cleveland all the pressure was on cleveland and all the momentum was with detroit
06:47and in the last couple minutes that game cleveland made plays in detroit didn't and that was
06:52you know those are the the more regrettable things because this game never should have been played
06:57and okay got there and yes uh requisite check the box credit cleveland for what you know they were able
07:04to accomplish and there's parts of cleveland's game that are just i mean to me i just i i don't
07:13appreciate certain styles i'll just leave it at that because i will i will say this defensively they
07:18were they were stout last night and and detroit wasn't what the hell how many free runs did they
07:24have at the rim where detroit would abandon somebody who would get a dunk you know it's funny when you
07:30look
07:30at cleveland in this series it feels like it feels like they were just shooting lights out from three
07:34point and they were not throughout the entire even last night they knocked out 11 three point shots
07:40six of them in the first quarter by the way but they only knocked out 11 all game they were
07:4511 of 34
07:46that's 32 that's not why they won they won because of everything else because they dominated in the paint
07:54which is that's the pistons domain and when you thought you had something after game six
07:59with paul the combination of paul reed and jalen duran with the 32 points and 20 rebounds or whatever
08:05it was between the two guys boy that looked awesome here we go let's bring it on to game seven
08:11it was just horrendous from every aspect there was i don't want to say it was nothing redeemable
08:18about last night because that'd be offensive to like duncan robinson who who shot reasonably well
08:24i mean knocked three out of five three pointers and had 13 points was better than 50 from the field
08:28overall but i mean honestly there's not much to do and i this was just horrific all the way around
08:38well hey yeah there was very very few things to very few things to latch on to and now
08:45look we sit at a at a bit of a crossroads there are tough tough decisions to be made
08:55and now we find out how good trajan langley could be how good because it's there's a lot of teams
09:03in this league that build competitive squads but how do you take it from being a competitive team
09:12and turn yourself into a legitimate championship contender or whatever whatever you want to call
09:19the next step maybe they were a legitimate i don't the label doesn't matter they got to find
09:23he's got to find the move that gives him gas to to take him higher up the mountain yes and
09:29i but i don't
09:30feel like this is something where you've got your palms up in the air like i don't know what to
09:33do
09:34i think that there are plenty of ways that you can get there it's it's not going to be easy
09:39to find
09:39the right mix of players that you need but at least through these two playoff series the 14
09:44playoff games that they played they played 14 playoff games man and five of them were elimination
09:49games um but in the 14 playoff games i feel like now you've got a real handle of what needs
09:55to happen
09:55it's one thing to win in the regular season to get the 60 wins and it was awesome a lot
10:00of that was
10:00what you guys did and some of it was circumstances based on injuries that other teams had in the in
10:05the conference but that's part of it pistons had their share of injuries as well but now that you
10:10get to the the 14 playoff games this team experience is going to be the most valuable tool that this
10:16team takes into them in the offseason last year okay they they only went one round and they they
10:21lost to the knicks and they were unhappy about it because they felt like they should have had a
10:25chance to win it and they should have they didn't they turn it into 60 wins they struggle in the
10:30first
10:30round but come back historically from 3-1 here we go take cleveland to seven games had the chance to
10:36win it and they don't they fell short more experience gained what do you do to take the loss last
10:43night
10:43and turn it into a positive for next year unfortunately we got to wait a whole year to see how
10:48that's going
10:49to pay off because you know by our eyes and our feelings i don't care about the regular season
10:55anymore yeah win enough games to qualify for the playoffs and and i don't even care what seed it is
10:59but it was a cool run it was a great run sure it was and it's a lot of fun
11:04to watch that you know
11:05play out during the regular season but we all know all that matters is playoff success so the waiting
11:12game begins got to wait 365 days before we're at the end of round two next year and okay you
11:18know
11:18it's conference finals that is the goal i mean the ultimate goal is the nba championship of course
11:24but this team has to get to the conference championship in that round at the very least
11:29so that we can feel like they're making real progress and step step by step which is what
11:34so many examples which is what the previous teams have done so many examples in detroit sports history
11:39of seeing that so yeah that that's a template that you know the the ideally this organization follows
11:47but it's a big off season for trajan landon 248-539-9797 it's karson anderson we'll get to some of
11:54uh
11:54those ideas as the show progresses and of course once your thoughts on what just happened it would
12:00turn out to be a pretty disastrous night at lca for the detroit pistons
12:04you
12:04I don't know.
