00:0097-1, talking about Game 7 again, another day, but a different question.
00:10Was that the most embarrassing loss we've had for a Detroit team in the postseason?
00:16And I'm choosing the word embarrassing because they weren't in it.
00:21People turned it off.
00:24A team that had been built on effort had nothing for its fans at home in a Game 7.
00:31But you're also playing against a team in Cleveland that belonged there.
00:36Yeah.
00:37And I know what Washington did through the regular season.
00:40They were 12-5.
00:40They belonged in the postseason, but they didn't belong on the field with the Lions.
00:44This was a Lions team that walked through the division.
00:47They gave the greatest birthday present in Dallas to Jerry Jones he's ever gotten.
00:52And they were 15-2.
00:54And I know that, hey, they lost handily to the Bills, even though it was 48-42.
01:00But you go all the way back to Week 2, and it was a turnover that cost you that game
01:06against
01:06Tampa Bay, and it was the fact that they couldn't run, and they turned the ball over.
01:10This was a 15-2 Lions team that played against an inferior opponent and lost at home as the
01:19number one seed coming off a bye week.
01:21I get it.
01:22And it ended up being a disco the other way.
01:23They lost by double digits.
01:24My point is, fourth quarter, start of the fourth, one-score game.
01:28Shouldn't have been.
01:29You're right.
01:30They should have been down more.
01:31But going into it, it shouldn't have been a one-score game in the fourth quarter.
01:36It shouldn't even have been close.
01:38The Lions should have dominated that game.
01:40Yet they lost.
01:41On an emotional level, I like football more.
01:44I was more invested in that Lions team.
01:46That loss may have hurt more, but on the embarrassing level, they were at least in it.
01:50For as poorly as that game was going, for as many turnovers as they gave up, they were
01:55in it.
01:56And there are people, and I disagree with them, who say Lions were shorthanded.
02:03And therefore, it's more acceptable.
02:06The reality is, there's no excuse for the Pistons.
02:08There's no hangover, injury, cloud, what if this guy hadn't rolled an ankle or blown out
02:13at any...
02:13The Pistons were healthy and no-showed.
02:16Lions were injured, and we're in it in the fourth quarter.
02:19So, I focused on the word embarrassment, and I thought that was more embarrassing.
02:23We may be hung up on the wrong comparison.
02:25If people have other games, we'll take them on the phones and the text, 248-539-9797.
02:30Let me ask you this question.
02:33Going into the series with Cleveland, did you think it was going to go six or seven games?
02:39Yeah, we talked about coin flip.
02:40Torn could go either way.
02:41So, like versus like, if the Lions played a seven-game series against the Washington
02:49Commanders...
02:50Did you imagine how brutal that would be, by the way?
02:51You played a seven-game series against the same team.
02:54But, let's just say, you know, physicality aside, how many games would it have taken
03:00the Lions to win that seven-game series?
03:03If you would have asked, this is purely hypothetical world where they're going to do this, I would
03:08have thought they had a chance to sweep them, or at the very least, gentlemen sweep
03:11them.
03:11Right.
03:12A five-gamer.
03:14So, this goes to my point of, you had a team, yeah, they got blown out.
03:21It was embarrassing.
03:22That's certainly in the conversation.
03:24And if you're going to say that that's the most embarrassing loss, it's hard to argue.
03:29But, Washington was not in the same class as the Lions.
03:34You want to hear what other people think on this?
03:36Yeah.
03:36Okay.
03:37Text says, most embarrassing postseason performance for a Detroit sports team?
03:40The Tigers being swept by the Orioles in 2014.
03:44Again, that's not a game.
03:45That's a series.
03:47That was a team.
03:48That was the last hurrah of that core.
03:51I mean, they added David Price.
03:53They had a lethal rotation.
03:57That's not the most embarrassing moment of that run.
04:00I think the debate is, was it getting swept by the Giants and Verlander getting completely
04:05shown up by Sandoval?
04:07Kung Fu Panda.
04:08And then getting swept at home.
04:10And remember the remnants of Hurricane Sandy had moved in?
04:13And it was an awful rod like night.
04:15Like, it was just, it was depressing.
04:17Or, this one hasn't been mentioned.
04:19I actually think for the Tigers, it was a Torrey Hunter moment going over into the bullpen.
04:25Oh, but hold on.
04:26We're doing two different.
04:26I think that's heartbreaking.
04:27We're saying that's embarrassing?
04:29Well, it's just salt in the wound almost.
04:31Okay.
04:32Like, why did that part have to happen?
04:34Look, that's more painful to me than what happened to the Pistons.
04:38But that's, I think that's two different discussions.
04:40Okay.
04:41Like, I thought the 2013 team was the best Tigers team of that era.
04:44And therefore, had a real shot to win a World Series.
04:47You know, we thought the Pistons were in the mix as a de facto because of a one seed.
04:51Right.
04:51But that Tigers team was better than this Pistons team.
04:54Hell, it felt like that Lions team a couple years ago.
04:56Better than this Pistons team.
04:57You could talk about blown opportunities to win a title.
04:59And there are more than what, you know, this team was.
05:03Texter says,
05:0705 Sheed not getting out the big shot.
05:09Bob, more embarrassing?
05:12No.
05:1307 LeBron going nuclear against us.
05:16And both Tigers World Series appearances, 06 and 2012.
05:20I mean, the fact that the pitchers couldn't field in 06.
05:24Yeah, that was the 83-wing Cardinals playing a lot into it.
05:27Yeah.
05:28Michigan losing to TCU.
05:32How would you slot that in here?
05:34It was embarrassing, sure.
05:35Especially with everything that came out after it.
05:37That was a good find, that one.
05:39Yeah.
05:39Red Wings up 3-1 on the Blackhawks in the early 2010s playoffs.
05:43Joe and Ann Arbor, yeah, blew that lead.
05:45These are more series than games.
05:49Red Wings swept by the Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals in the mid-90s.
05:52That's more embarrassing.
05:5306 World Series for the Tigers.
05:56Come on, the Lions were never in that game against the Commanders.
05:59I don't care what the score was.
06:01That was a worse loss by far.
06:04That 95 Wings one is a really good one.
06:06I mean, I know we're talking 30 years ago now.
06:08Yeah.
06:08But the Devils were a five seed.
06:12And the way they, game two, do you know about the incident of Sean Burr handing Scott Niedermeyer a stick
06:19and they went down and scored?
06:22Kind of shoved it off to the side to Niedermeyer so he could pick it up?
06:25Yeah.
06:26That was bad.
06:26I mean, you could pick about any loss in September for the Tigers last year.
06:32Not postseason, though.
06:34No.
06:34When the Lions lost to the Commanders, at the time, like as the game's going south, and I think it
06:42was halftime, I bump into Stoney.
06:46And he said it reminded, maybe it was postgame, he said it reminded him of Wings Sharks back when the
06:52Wings were first on the ascent.
06:54So you got to go back into the 90s.
06:58Text says, guys, not even close.
07:00The 91 NFC Championship game.
07:02Lions get smashed by the then Redskins, Dan and Plymouth.
07:06No, they were a heavy dog going to that game.
07:10Pistons were way, way, way, way worse.
07:12They didn't show up at all, coupled with a horrible, one-sided, ticky-tack-officiated game.
07:17It was the most unwatchable game in Detroit sports history.
07:22Did you find that game to be, like, poorly officiated?
07:26Game seven?
07:27No.
07:27I mean, I know there was a discrepancy in free throws.
07:31And no one likes the way Harden's officiated, but, like, I didn't leave that game at all thinking,
07:35damn, if only the refs had done their job.
07:39No.
07:412-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
07:43For a single Pistons game, that loss is the worst.
07:45What's even more embarrassing are JB's comments after the game.
07:48He's hiding his own coaching failures behind his teams, behind his defense of the team.
07:53It definitely made it worse.
07:55Jim is so wrong.
07:56The Lions is so much worse.
07:57Who cares if they were in it in the fourth quarter?
07:58I don't know why he keeps saying it.
07:59Well, it plays into what's embarrassing.
08:02The fact that it was even a game was embarrassing.
08:05But if the Lions were out of it at halftime, that would be the equivalent.
08:08If it was 28-10 at the half, that would be the equivalent.
08:11The context does matter because, again, Cleveland and Detroit were similarly made teams.
08:20Expectations were similar.
08:21Not so for Detroit and Washington.
08:25And we'll continue this one on the other side.
08:27It's 97-1.
08:27And we'll continue this one on the other side.
08:28And we'll continue this one on the other side.
08:28And we'll continue this one on the side.
