00:00just a brutal game for last night and an awful third quarter.
00:04And there,
00:05there's a lot of layers to this.
00:06This is the way the Pistons play.
00:08There's what the Pistons earned.
00:09It's what the Pistons didn't earn.
00:11And it's also a historic disparity in free throws and officiating.
00:16And,
00:16and,
00:16and JB did what he had to do.
00:18He complained about it after the game.
00:20And,
00:20you know,
00:21I suspect they'll say more before the start of game five,
00:24because this is what you have to do in this league.
00:27And Cleveland lobbied and Cleveland,
00:30Cleveland got the whistles.
00:32you know,
00:32there's my eyeballs.
00:33Didn't tell me the disparity was going to be that bad,
00:37but you know,
00:38to go through a quarter without committing a foul,
00:41really?
00:42And commit one,
00:43huh?
00:44Not one.
00:45When I was watching it,
00:46like the Pistons play aggressive.
00:48So they're not called fouls.
00:49I get that.
00:49But Cleveland is doing the same to the Pistons because they're up on Cade full
00:53court.
00:53Duncan Robinson can't get around a screen without someone grabbing his jersey
00:56or hugging them or bumping them.
00:59And they don't,
00:59they didn't call it last.
01:00It's off ball stuff.
01:02It's a lot of stuff.
01:03Yeah.
01:03And Duncan does complain,
01:04but he just not,
01:05he has no respect in the league to get it.
01:07He had two shots last night.
01:08Duncan Robinson.
01:10That's the only reason he's on the court.
01:11It's to shoot the ball.
01:12He had two shots.
01:14He couldn't get,
01:14that's why I'm saying don't necessarily flop,
01:16but you got to start embellishing some of these calls.
01:18You got to get knocked off your mark.
01:20You know what I mean?
01:20You got to,
01:20because Cleveland's when,
01:22when somebody makes contact with a Cleveland player,
01:23they go right down and they're,
01:25they're getting those calls and it's like,
01:26wait a minute.
01:27Pistons just called call for an offensive screen again.
01:31Yep.
01:31And,
01:31but see,
01:32it doesn't help though when you're playing bad and you are going to get
01:34less calls when you're not making shots,
01:36you're making turnovers.
01:37Like Jalen Dern is hemorrhaging money.
01:39Every playoff game.
01:41He's losing more and more money.
01:42I feel like there's no way you can go to the negotiation table and say,
01:45I need the max.
01:46I made the comment to you that I don't think he could say at this point,
01:49you can't just say it with a straight face and you can't like you're,
01:52you're going to overpay certain guys in the league.
01:53Cause you have to just to keep them.
01:55Well,
01:55you can't,
01:55I don't want to keep them.
01:56Let me be clear.
01:57I want to keep it,
01:57but you know,
01:58there's 50 million a year at 45 million a year at 40 million a year.
02:02You don't want to have a contract that becomes an anchor for your entire
02:05organization.
02:07Clarence and that's an off season topic right now.
02:09It's about straight now and getting the best out of what they have for game
02:12five tomorrow night.
02:13Clarence is in Detroit and he's next.
02:15Hi,
02:15Clarence.
02:16How's it going guys?
02:17You guys triggered me this morning with that last call.
02:22Responding that we spent all season creating an identity and not really
02:28acknowledging the fact that we abandoned that identity as soon as the
02:31playoff started.
02:33It's kind of crazy guys.
02:34Like our identity is 10 deep.
02:38We have not been 10 deep this playoffs.
02:40And this is why a guy like Jalen Byrne,
02:42who's just now this year really started becoming a piece in our offense is
02:47struggling because he's not used to the spotlight being on him and it's
02:51showing.
02:52He got bailed out all year by our bench.
02:55And seeing as how our bench isn't really being utilized,
02:58especially at that position,
02:59at the four and the five spots,
03:01but specifically Cade sits down or whatever in spots,
03:05you know,
03:06Jenkins again,
03:06like 15 minutes,
03:08which is more than he's mostly.
03:10Paul Reed,
03:11the,
03:12our guys,
03:13how we rotate through the three and five positions are not seeing minutes.
03:15And this is putting the spotlight on him at the wrong time.
03:20This is something you do in October and November,
03:22December,
03:23not in the playoffs.
03:25If your guy's not performing,
03:26you put somebody in that,
03:27that will.
03:28And JB is like,
03:29this,
03:29he's going to learn the hard way or we're going to go down in the fire.
03:32It's like,
03:33are we trying to win?
03:34Or are we just given the hard lesson?
03:36Well,
03:36they're definitely trying to trying to win,
03:38but I also think that there's,
03:39there's something to be said for going through what they're going through and,
03:43and learning something from it.
03:44They need to learn something from this clearly clearance.
03:46And if they're not,
03:47then it's just a wasted exercise here.
03:49But I think it's also,
03:50there's a lack,
03:51there's a lack of players like that.
03:53That's where's that second guard on this team.
03:56You know,
03:57I mean,
03:57this is not your conventional basketball team when a Sar Thompson and you got a small
04:02lineup out there.
04:02And is your starting lineup?
04:04A Sar is not really,
04:05I mean,
04:05he's not a shooter at all.
04:07Duren's not a shooter.
04:09You got problems.
04:10This is the X factor here,
04:11bro.
04:12We're like,
04:13we're talking hope.
04:14That was great for last year.
04:16We're a 60 win team.
04:17We won playing a certain way that when you abandon that way and it starts showing
04:23that it's not working and you don't go back to the way that worked,
04:27that comes down to the only person that can make those decisions.
04:31Unless guys start trying to sub themselves in.
04:33The one thing I say,
04:34Clarence is that they haven't lost a series yet.
04:36We took the same calls last series and they won the series.
04:40And if they,
04:41if they lose the series,
04:43we can look back and second guess a lot of what they did.
04:46A lot of what JB did.
04:48But ultimately I don't know that anybody predicted this was going to be and
04:53thought that this should be a sweep.
04:55There's going to be ups and downs.
04:57Most people had Detroit in six.
05:00It still could be Detroit in six,
05:02but yeah,
05:03if they win tomorrow night,
05:04there we go.
05:06What was the,
05:07what the,
05:07what the text,
05:08what Gators referencing is we got a text yesterday when I was really concerned
05:11that they didn't close them out when they had a chance to what I thought
05:16really buried Cleveland,
05:17all the pressure on them late in game three.
05:19And they didn't.
05:19And I said,
05:20I don't want to rue the day they lost this game,
05:21but the,
05:23we got a text from somebody.
05:25You need to relax.
05:25All they need to do is win game four and five.
05:28And the series is over.
05:29And I'm like,
05:30well,
05:30thank you for pointing out what happens when you know how to get the prize.
05:33You didn't recognize that.
05:36Um,
05:36you know,
05:36most teams shorten the rotation.
05:38He's going with what he believes and what he,
05:40the guys that he thinks proved it the most.
05:43Well,
05:43and,
05:44and you know,
05:44some of the times you use the bench during the regular season,
05:47to be fair here,
05:47you use the bench during the regular season because the games aren't as
05:50important and you want to save minutes for the post season,
05:53but something happened at the end of the game that I think should be
05:59looked at as,
06:00okay,
06:01this is something we're going to have to do moving forward in this series.
06:04And that is late in the game when the Pistons made a furious
06:07comeback with all the,
06:08the,
06:08the bench guys out there against Cleveland's bench.
06:11And then it got a little,
06:12whoa,
06:12whoa,
06:12wait,
06:12wait,
06:12wait,
06:12is this like an eight point game here?
06:15Cleveland brought their,
06:16their starters back out there,
06:18including Donovan Mitchell Mitchell.
06:19When he left the game,
06:21they denied him the opportunity of getting that record.
06:24Right.
06:25With the 41 points or whatever it was.
06:27So he'd be the only guy in NBA history to have that many points in this,
06:30in a single half of basketball in the playoffs.
06:33When he came back out there,
06:35you knew that he was going to get the ball and that he was,
06:37they were going to try to get him those points.
06:39He got matched up one-on-one with Ron Holland.
06:41Ron Holland did not give an inch to Donovan Mitchell.
06:46There were back-to-back possessions where he stepped with him,
06:49not step for step.
06:51I mean,
06:51he was on top of him the entire time.
06:54Is that something we're going to see more of in the rest of this series
06:57where Ron Holland will get more than,
07:00I mean,
07:00he got eight minutes last night and we've talked about Ron Holland before as a
07:04defensive guy,
07:05Ron Holland matched up against the guy that you need somebody to match up
07:08with.
07:09Can we see more of that?
07:10Are we going to see more of that?
07:11He did it to Harden early in the series.
07:13Remember we documented when Assar picked up his third foul,
07:16Holland came in and drew Harden.
07:18And we,
07:19we looked at Harden the rest of the half with Ron Holland,
07:23but the primary defender and Harden struggled.
07:25Harden struggled when Ron Holland came in there and it's something that they
07:28very well may.
07:29I don't know if it's because of that one possession at the end,
07:31but I think that they're going to search for some answers,
07:34especially on the defensive end.
07:36Like I,
07:37you know,
07:37they're what Cleveland did in the third quarter against the team that had
07:41established itself to be a great defensive team was unbelievable.
07:46And the Pistons have to look at the mirror and say,
07:48what is our culpability for the 22 to nothing run?
07:51What is our culpability?
07:52I just liked the idea of having Ron Holland out there.
07:54It's six foot eight.
07:55He's wiry.
07:56He's light on his feet.
07:58He's quick as anybody else.
08:01And,
08:01you know,
08:02look at James Harden,
08:03who's shorter,
08:04Donald Mitchell,
08:04who's shorter.
08:06It's a bit of a,
08:07I'm not saying it's a mismatch,
08:08but it's a better matchup for the Pistons to have Holland out there against
08:12one of those two guys.
08:13I want to see it.
08:14No more,
08:15your phone calls and feedback coming up.
08:16It's Carson Anderson,
08:1797.
08:17One.
