How was this made possible for Cavs' fans?
Transcript
00:11okay
00:15so i always say fans can make their own decisions and do whatever they want with their
00:21time their money or what you say when you buy a ticket who you cheer for you boo i'm not
00:28a big boo
00:28guy usually want to buy a ticket i'm not a big secondary market guy i don't sell tickets blah
00:34blah blah the cleveland cavaliers organization brought in 25 buses of fans
00:43and their presence was was felt in game seven fans presence
00:52am i to understand correctly this was all paid for by the calves organization
00:58that's the way i understood it i'm not how i'm not sure how to feel about this
01:04and i'm not saying what i mean by that is this doesn't feel like a a team a typical takeover
01:13when an organization is going to foot the bill the takeover another nba teams building
01:21if some if they're going to pay for it and they're willing to pay for it and meet the prices
01:28that
01:28piston fans set on the secondary market i'm not really sure how to feel about that to be honest
01:35with you i kind of feel like i'm not sure nba organizations should be doing this to one another
01:43because it just allows the the rich owner to take over another rich owner's building
01:53and it kind of takes away the authenticity of the secondary market that a fan base that wants to
02:00sell their tickets it's okay to want to sell your tickets you've purchased the right to do with your
02:07tickets what you want but even if you were trying to make sure that they went your tickets were only
02:13sold to piston fans does the owner of the other team have a local address oh that might make it
02:21a
02:21bit confusing yeah you know whether or not there should be rules or anything like this i don't know
02:26but this whole thing feels something feels really weird about this to me and maybe maybe i just
02:32i'm taking it too seriously but is there something do you get where i'm coming from no not really i
02:37think you might be weird about this because it might be i think it if because didn't gorge do the
02:42same thing didn't he buy tickets to to game six in cleveland he bust some people down for that game
02:47did
02:47he that's what blaha was saying 25 25 buses i didn't say 25 i said it was you know busing
02:54some
02:54people down there that's what blaha was saying in the broadcast last night um yeah i don't know if i
02:59like this well i i don't you can feel how you want to feel yeah that's nobody's going to argue
03:04with that i'm just saying i i i don't mind when a team owner wants to send his the fan
03:10base take
03:11him on the road i think it's pretty cool the difference with dan gilbert is that he does have
03:15the local ties he does have all the local businesses downtown so were all these people really busted that
03:22they really have 25 busloads of people brought in or were some of these people just local employees
03:28of the rocket industries here greg harger this morning called them paid protesters right well
03:34yeah exactly but you know whatever the case is i i think if if it's your team that's doing it
03:40you
03:40love it did they overtake the game no they were vocal you could hear them you knew they were there
03:47for sure but they're outnumbered you know at least 10 to 1 but when the game gets out of hand
03:55and
03:55you're in the third quarter and the crowd is like yeah i don't want to stick around and watch this
03:59anymore then they get louder because they're staying and piston fans are leaving and then when
04:04you get halfway through the fourth quarter and you've got a crowd of i don't know how many were
04:08there because i was already on the road but let's say that you had 10 000 people there
04:13and and you've got one to two thousand cleveland fans it becomes really loud
04:21if you're an nba owner do you want another owner buying up your tickets of course not and paying for
04:28your fans and paying for their fans to be there no yeah yeah the whole thing feels weird to me
04:35and i
04:35guess and i'm not i'm not mad about it i just there's something about this that that strikes me is
04:42a little bit a little bit of a dirty move but you know whatever i i'm probably just being weird
04:49about it kane do you get where i'm coming from i do get where you're coming from i mean on
04:52one hand
04:53listen because it's i'm going to be hypocritical because it's another team doing it i don't like
04:58it right but if it was our way the other way around it'd be cool but the thing is when
05:02the
05:02lions fans do their takeovers at stadiums it's organic it's authentic yeah it's our it's organic
05:07authentic they paid for it out of their own pockets now it'd be really cool if the lions paid for
05:10their stuff because that stuff is expensive but they don't so that's what makes it seem like
05:14i don't know use the word better but just more organic right yep nothing was wrong with what
05:19gilbert did obviously he can do it and he did it it's not against the rules i'm not a boss
05:23yeah i
05:24know you're not but yeah i mean free tickets and by the way decent tickets they weren't in the like
05:29you know oh right behind the cleveland yes they're like great tickets and i guess apparently food was
05:33included as well and they got swag and everything i mean that's that's really cool for him to do and
05:39i think he's at the point where like hey i'm gonna do whatever i want to do it that you
05:44know
05:44and i'm gonna give us some kind of that's not necessarily advantage but just gonna help offset
05:49the advantage the other team has it any way possible and then once the game gets out of hand it's
05:53like
05:53it's easy for them to hear more cash fans and piston fans for sure but i understand what you're
05:57feeling yeah there's nothing there's nothing against the rules or anything like that this just
06:01feels to me like something that the nba might tell their owners not to do
06:06you think i think it might i think it might now with that said i don't think we should be
06:12mad at
06:13fans that want to sell tickets it's like in this day and age this is disposable income and if you
06:21decide for a game seven i can recoup all the money i spent in the postseason by just selling this
06:26game
06:27people have financial needs and it just might be too good of an offer to pass up and i so
06:33i know
06:34people get frustrated i can't believe the fans sold their tickets to cleveland fans or whatever but
06:38it's a it's you know you make the purchase you make the investment and then it turns out to be
06:43an incredibly valuable commodity i mean that's kind of the american way right well we love to talk during
06:49the lion season about lions fans are heading out on the road to watch the lions play and and we've
06:54seen
06:54amazing takeovers where it's not just you know 500 people whatever it's thousands of people that go
07:01elsewhere how much would we love it even more if we found out that that sheila hamp said you know
07:08what i'm gonna pick up the tab for all those fans yeah i mean it's a cool gesture without a
07:12doubt okay
07:13for that fan base but as kang said when the lions have done it and when the red wings have
07:18done it
07:18and it's happened to us before with like like the blue jays fans this weekend actually their presence
07:23was felt those organic takeovers where the fans are are just doing it on their own that's pretty
07:30freaking cool itself now tough to do when it comes to a playoff probably every fan under the sun would
07:36say well i'd rather i'd even rather do it when it's paid for by the owner yeah i the the
07:43issue that
07:44and it's my own issue i'm not going to say it's right or wrong for everybody else to do this
07:49you do
07:49what you want if you have your tickets i'm not in the business to buy a ticket only to sell
07:53the
07:53ticket i'm not either i never have been and but everybody i respect the right to do it yeah you
07:58can do what you want with it but if you do that then you don't really have the right to
08:02complain
08:02about it when it's when it goes to somebody who's going to you know wear a cleveland cavalier jersey
08:07yeah i think i'm doing a poor job of articulating my feelings about this one other than it just
08:10something feels weird about it to me when it's it it's okay i'm they didn't break any rules
08:15but something about an owner doing it awesome gesture for his fan base i'm not sure that the
08:20rest of the owners would be down with this but well i'm sure the owners aren't yeah well the owners
08:26don't want somebody to organize it and buy up all those seats and bring their fans and they don't
08:32want that to happen for a couple reasons a you're bringing in the infiltrators and two it makes you
08:39look bad as an owner that you let some other owner go ahead and buy the tickets
08:44and then why aren't you doing that for your team and if you do you're not are you doing it
08:48the same
08:48level that they are yeah i don't know i think i think it's crying about spilt milking to an extent
08:54yeah i mean i like i said i don't know if i'm doing a great job articulating i feel like
08:58somebody
08:59if there's anybody out there that has a better way to put it or maybe i'm on an island with
09:03this
09:03although can't kind of agrees that there's something weird about it 248-539-9797 get your
09:09championship votes in it's karshen anderson pistons lose in a extraordinarily disappointing the one of
09:15the most ungratifying and unfulfilling games in the history of detroit sports uh on sunday 97-1
