03:32Good afternoon my dear brothers and sisters and welcome on the solemnity of the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ
03:39into heaven.
03:40Today we celebrate on this 40th day after the resurrection, this momentous event which showed us the way forward, the
03:50path we too will trod when we come to God's glory in heaven.
03:57Today's holy mass is in the contemporary rite, found on page 63 of your pew missile, and the intention for
04:04today's holy mass is for all of our parishioners, all of our members, all those who find their hope of
04:09faith here with us at holy name of Jesus.
04:12In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Lord, bless us with the
04:18wisdom to praise you in spirit and in truth, so that by following your holy will, we may gain eternal
04:24salvation.
04:26My dear brothers and sisters, as of course, confess our sins to God and repair ourselves so that we may
04:32worthily participate in this holy sacrifice.
04:35Please now take a moment to complete your examination of conscience, confessing your sins privately to God and seeking his
04:42forgiveness.
05:07I recall your sinfulness and seeking reconciliation with God and each other, let us now recite the second form of
05:13the Confidure as our confession.
05:16I confess, Almighty God, in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints in you, my brothers and
05:23sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault.
05:26In my thoughts, in my words, in what I have done or failed to do, I ask the Blessed Virgin
05:33Mary, all the saints in you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
05:39As an act of penance for our sinfulness, let us this evening, before we go to bed, offer up an
05:45hour, Father, in thanksgiving to God for the glory that awaits us.
05:50May I, my God, have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
05:55May I, Lord Jesus Christ, absolve you with his authority, dust, and in me, I absolve you from all your
06:00sins.
06:01In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
06:12As he blessed them, he parted from them, who was taken up to heaven. Alleluia.

06:32is now, and shall we, world without end. Amen.

06:52Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your
07:00glory.
07:00Lord Jesus Christ, holy Son of the Father, Lord God, land of God, you take away the sins of the
07:07world, have mercy on us.
07:10You are seated at the right hand of the Father, receive our prayer, for you alone are the Holy One,
07:16you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory
07:22of God and the Father.
07:24Amen.
07:26The Lord be with you.
07:28Amen.
07:29Let us pray.
07:31Lord Jesus Christ, you went to the Father to prepare a place for us.
07:37Grant that we may both live in union with you here on earth, and hereafter enjoy the fullness of your
07:43presence, for you live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and
07:49ever.
07:50Amen.
07:51Let us now be seated and attended to the Lord's Word.
08:01Our first reading for this morning, The Ascension of the Lord, is taken from the Acts of the Apostles.
08:08In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught, until the day he was taken
08:15up, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
08:20He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days, and
08:29speaking about the kingdom of God.
08:31While meeting with them, he had joined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of
08:38the Father, about which you have heard me speak, for John baptized with water, but in a few days you
08:44will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
08:46When they had gathered together, they asked him, Lord, are you going at this time to restore the kingdom to
08:54Israel?
08:55He answered them, It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by
09:01his own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my
09:08witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
09:13When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from
09:19their sight.
09:20While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men, dressed in white garments, stood
09:27beside them.
09:28They said, Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky?
09:33This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will return in the same way as you have
09:40seen him going into heaven.
09:42This is the word of the Lord.
09:44Thanks be to God.
09:46Our responsorial song.
09:48God mounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
09:52God mounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
09:59All you peoples, clap your hands, shout to God with cries of gladness, for the Lord, the Most High and
10:06Awesome, is the Great King over all the earth.
10:09God mounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
10:15God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid trumpet blasts.
10:20Sing praise to God, sing praise.
10:23Sing praise to our King, sing praise.
10:26God mounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
10:32For the King of all the earth is God.
10:35Sing hymns of praise.
10:36God reigns over the nations.
10:39God sits upon his holy throne.
10:42God mounts his throne to shouts of joy, a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
10:47Our epistle to this day is taken from the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians.
10:52Brothers and sisters, may the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of
11:00wisdom and revelation, resulting in knowledge of him.
11:04May the eyes and your hearts be enlightened that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his
11:10call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones,
11:16and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe in accord with the exercise of his
11:23great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him in his right hand in
11:30the heavens,
11:31far above our principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but
11:39also in the one to come.
11:41And he put all things beneath his feet, and gave him as head over all things to the church, which
11:47is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
11:53This is the word of the Lord.
11:55Thanks be to God.
11:58Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
12:01Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
12:03God mounts his throne amid shells of joy, the Lord amid trumpet blasts.
12:08Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
12:16In the Lord, may we be with you in this holy gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
12:21Amen.
12:26The Lord be with you.
12:27Amen.
12:28A reading through holy gospel according to St. Matthew.
12:32Glory be to you, O Lord.
12:34The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
12:40When they saw him, they worshipped, but they doubted.
12:43Then Jesus approached and said to them,
12:46All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
12:49Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
12:56and of the Holy Spirit,
12:57teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you always, and to the
13:04end of the age.
13:06This is the gospel of the Lord.
13:09Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ.
13:16Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ.
13:41He answered them,
13:42It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority,
13:48but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses.
13:54In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
13:57Amen.
13:58Christ is risen.
13:59Alleluia.
14:00He is risen indeed.
14:02Alleluia.
14:03My dear brothers and sisters, these words taken from the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles
14:12sort of speak to us very plainly about what sort of the human view of things are
14:20versus what the God view of things is.
14:23The human view is, well, what's going to happen next, Jesus?
14:27Are you going to give us power, Jesus?
14:30Are you going to restore Israel now, Jesus?
14:33You know, what's going to happen to Jesus?
14:36And Jesus is like, don't concern yourself with those things.
14:41There's one thing you should concern yourself with.
14:44That you will receive the Holy Spirit, who will give you power, and that you are to be witnesses.
14:51That is our work as the Christian people.
14:55That is our work as the faithful, not only of this parish, but the faithful of our Holy
15:01Church, and the faithful, among all the faithful in the world, we are called to be witnesses,
15:08not just in Jerusalem and Samaria, but throughout the entire world.
15:12So let us, on this day, as we celebrate Jesus' ascension into heaven, reflect on what we are
15:21to do as his witnesses.
15:24In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
15:26Amen.
15:28Thank you, brothers and sisters, if you could assist me now in removing the symbols of the
15:33resurrection.
15:34Amen.
15:53Amen.
15:56Amen.
15:57Amen.
15:58Amen.
15:59Amen.
18:19Amen.
18:21May you now please be seated.
18:22The Lord be with you.
18:23And also with you.
18:24Let us pray.
18:26I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
18:31Alleluia.
18:32Amen.
18:44Amen.
18:46Amen.
18:53Amen.
18:54Amen.
19:05By the mystery of the swine and water, may we come to share the divinity of Christ who humbled
19:13himself to share in our divinity.
19:24Bless you, Lord God of all creation.
19:26If you're goodness, we have this wine to offer.
19:27Amen.
19:31Amen.
19:42Amen.
19:47Amen.
19:51Amen.
19:52Amen.
19:57Amen.
19:58Amen.
19:58Amen.
20:00Amen.
20:13Amen.
20:25Amen.
20:32Amen.
20:33Amen.
20:35Amen.
20:44Amen.
20:45Amen.
20:47Amen.
20:48you ascended into heaven, you promised to return and take
20:52us to be with you forever. May the gifts we offer to
20:56your Heavenly Father be acceptable to him and assist us during
21:00our earthly pilgrimage, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
21:05one God, forever and ever. Amen.
21:09The Lord be with you.
21:12Lift up your hearts. Let's give thanks
21:16to the Lord our God. Father, our powerful, ever-living
21:22God, we dwell always and ever where to give you thanks to your Son,
21:26Jesus Christ our Lord, who after his resurrection
21:30plainly showed himself to all his disciples and in
21:34their presence ascended to heaven to give us a share
21:38in his divinity. Therefore, the angels and archangels,
21:42with all the saints in the entire church, lift their hymn of praise to your glory,
21:46repeating on a ceasingly, Holy, Holy, Holy
21:50Lord, God of power and might, heavenly and earth are full of your glory,
21:55Osanah in the highest. Blessed is he who come to the name of the Lord,
22:00Osanah in the highest. As a continuing sign of our Easter joy,
22:05remain standing for the canon of the Holy Mass,
22:08gentrifying at the elevations.
22:14Father, for Jesus Christ, your Son, we ask you to accept and bless these gifts
22:19we offer you in sacrifice. We offer them for your holy Catholic Church,
22:24asking you to define and guide you throughout the world. We offer them for
22:28Anthony, our prime bishop and bishop, and for all bishops, priests, deacons, and other ministers
22:32who profess the true faith which comes to us from the apostles.
22:37Remembering our people, Lord, especially our brothers and sisters for whom we now pray,
22:41and especially for all of our parishioners, all of our members,
22:45all those who find their home of faith here with us in the holy name of Jesus in Schenectady,
22:50as well as for all of their loved ones, family members, and all those they care for.
22:56Remember all of us who are present here, who truly believe and are devoted to you.
23:00We offer this sacrifice of praise to our living, eternal, and true God,
23:04for ourselves and all those we love, for the redemption of our souls,
23:08with hope for our salvation.
23:10Together with the whole Church, we honor the Virgin Mary,
23:13the Mother of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
23:15We also honor the apostles and martyrs,
23:18as well as all those who have lived and died confessing your name.
23:21Remembering them, we deserve to follow our example,
23:23and so gain your love and help.
23:26Father, accept this offering from your whole family,
23:28grant us your peace in this life,
23:31preserve us from spiritual damnation,
23:34and come to someone, your chosen people.
23:37Bless, accept, and approve this offering we now make to you,
23:40and let it be pleasing to you.
23:42Fill it with the power of your Holy Spirit,
23:44and let it become for us the body and the blood of your Son,
23:48our Lord Jesus Christ.
23:50The day before he suffered and died,
23:52our Lord desired to make his love known to his disciples and all who would follow him.
23:57He therefore instituted these sacred mysteries,
24:00by which he joined himself with them spiritually and bodily in his whole being,
24:05and abides with us forever.
24:07At that moment, so sacred for all of humanity,
24:11Jesus took bread into his holy hands,
24:14and looking unto heaven, to you, his Almighty Father,
24:17he gave you thanks.
24:19He blessed the bread, broke it,
24:22and gave it to his disciples, saying,
24:25Take this, all of you, and eat it,
24:28for this is my body, which is given for you.
24:46When supper had ended, he took the cup.
24:49In the same way, he gave you thanks,
24:51blessed it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
24:55Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
24:58for this is the cup of my blood,
25:00the blood of the new and everlasting covenant,
25:03which shall be shed for you and for many
25:05for the forgiveness of sins.
25:07As often as you do this,
25:09do it in remembrance of me.
25:25Father, at the celebration of the number of Jesus Christ, your Son,
25:28we, your people, we call his passion,
25:31resurrection from the dead,
25:32and ascension into glory.
25:33From the many gifts you have given us,
25:36we offer this pure, holy, and spotless offering,
25:39the holy bread of life,
25:40and the holy cup of eternal salvation.
25:43Look favorably on these offerings,
25:45and accept what you once acceptably give to your servant Abel,
25:48the sacrifice of our Father,
25:49in faith Abraham,
25:51and the bread and wine offered by your priest,
25:53Melchizedek.
25:54In humility, we ask, Father,
25:56that these offerings be carried by your angel
25:58to your high altar at heaven,
26:00so that we who receive the sacred body and blood of your Son
26:03from this altar
26:04may be filled with your grace and blessing.
26:09Remember, Lord,
26:10our brothers and sisters who have died
26:11and have gone before us,
26:13Mark, with a sign of faith,
26:15especially for all of the departed
26:16in the holy name of Jesus,
26:18Good Shepherd,
26:18and St. Joseph's parishes,
26:20all in turn and holding in with Jesus
26:23in Good Shepherd's cemeteries,
26:24and all of our departed loved ones
26:26and benefactors.
26:29May these and all who rest in Christ
26:31find happiness, life, and peace,
26:33and we who trust in your love
26:35also ask me to include in fellowship
26:37with your holy apostles,
26:38martyrs, and saints
26:39who offer their lives to you.
26:41They were filled with your justice and mercy
26:43because they lived in accord
26:45with the teachings of Jesus,
26:47gaining eternal joy.
26:48Count us among them, Father,
26:50not because of what we truly deserve,
26:52but because you are willing to forgive us.
26:54We ask this in the name of your Son,
26:57Jesus Christ,
26:58by whom you give us all these gifts.
27:01You fill them with life and goodness.
27:03You bless them and make them holy.
27:08Through him, with him, and in him,
27:11in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
27:13all honor and glory are yours,
27:15Almighty Father,
27:16forever and ever.
27:18Amen.
27:25Let us now pray with confidence to the Father
27:27in the words our Savior gave us.
27:30Our Father, who art in heaven,
27:32hallowed be thy name,
27:34thy kingdom come,
27:35and will be done.
27:37Honor and guest in heaven,
27:39give us this day our daily bread,
27:41and forgive us our trespasses,
27:43as we forgive those who trespass against us,
27:46and lead us not into temptation,
27:48but deliver us from evil.
27:51Deliver us, Lord, from every evil,
27:53and grant us peace in our day.
27:54In your mercy, keep us free from sin,
27:56and protect us from all anxiety,
27:59as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior,
28:02Jesus Christ.
28:03For the kingdom,
28:04the power,
28:05and the glory of yours,
28:06now and forever.
28:08Amen.
28:09The cup of blessing,
28:11which we bless,
28:12is it not a participation in the blood of Christ,
28:15the bread,
28:16which we bring?
28:19Is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
28:23Because there is one bread,
28:25we who are many in our one body,
28:27for we all partake of the one bread.
28:30May the new divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ
28:33bring us sanctification and eternal life.
28:36Amen.
28:38Lord Jesus Christ,
28:39who said to your apostles,
28:40that we do peace,
28:41my peace I give you.
28:42Do not look at our sins,
28:44on the faith of your church,
28:45and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom,
28:48where you live forever and ever.
28:50Amen.
28:50The peace of the Lord be with you always.
28:53Amen.
28:54Amen.
28:54Let's offer each other a sign of Christ's peace.
29:17Lamb of God,
29:18you take away the sins of the world,
29:20have mercy on us.
29:22Lamb of God,

31:13in which you are truly present,
31:15I love you above all things,
31:17and I long for you in my soul.
