00:06:16who liveth and reigneth with thee

00:06:22Amen.
00:06:24Well, good morning, everyone,
00:06:26and welcome once again
00:06:28during this beautiful Easter season
00:06:30on this fifth Sunday of Easter.
00:06:33A few announcements.
00:06:35First, remember that Easter is a season of 50 days.
00:06:38It doesn't end on Easter Day,
00:06:41but it continues until Pentecost.
00:06:44Our basket social.
00:06:47What can I say?
00:06:50What a wonderful effort.
00:06:52What a wonderful outcome.
00:06:54We were super blessed.
00:06:57It was the best we've ever done,
00:07:00and it's all because of you,
00:07:03your hard work,
00:07:04your collaboration,
00:07:06the leadership of Gail brought to the fore,
00:07:10and most especially all of your generosity,
00:07:14not just in donating time
00:07:16and in donating baskets
00:07:18and donating effort,
00:07:19but in meeting the people who came to us,
00:07:22who joined with us at the basket social.
00:07:25So again, it was a tremendous success,
00:07:27and an absolutely marvelous family of faith
00:07:30can do those sorts of things,
00:07:32and you definitely did all of that.
00:07:36So we are so very thankful for God's blessing,
00:07:40and we're going to sing a song.
00:07:42We're going to sing a song of thanksgiving,
00:07:44so hold on.
00:07:46A few more announcements.
00:07:48Welcome and introduction cards
00:07:51are on the back table.
00:07:52Take a few of those welcome and introduction cards,
00:07:56because the introduction and welcome cards
00:07:59have a place where people can ask for prayer,
00:08:02and they can write their prayer request,
00:08:05and they can send it in.
00:08:06They can give it to you,
00:08:07and you can bring it in,
00:08:08or they can mail them in with a postcard stamp.
00:08:12So, you know, it's a good way
00:08:14to open our hearts to people who need prayer
00:08:18and to introduce ourselves as a family of faith.
00:08:23Also, if you see somebody new in church,
00:08:26give them one.
00:08:27You know, if you see, you know,
00:08:28even if 10 people give them one,
00:08:31that's a fine thing to do,
00:08:33to welcome people into our family of faith.
00:08:36We are in the month of May.
00:08:38It is the month of Mary.
00:08:40Every Wednesday,
00:08:41we will have special Marian devotions at 3 p.m.
00:08:46It will be the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
00:08:48and it is a sung liturgy
00:08:51for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
00:08:53It's very beautiful.
00:08:54It's something you should experience
00:08:56and join in prayer with.
00:08:58Next Sunday, we'll have the crowning
00:09:00of the Blessed Virgin
00:09:01by some of the young people of our parish
00:09:04who will do that,
00:09:06so please definitely join in with that.
00:09:08A couple activities coming up.
00:09:11The men's retreat.
00:09:12There's information on the back table.
00:09:15The men of the church are strongly, strongly, strongly
00:09:18encouraged to attend this.
00:09:21You know, everybody sort of says,
00:09:22well, I don't know.
00:09:24I don't know.
00:09:26Well, you should know,
00:09:27and the best way to know is to go
00:09:29and to find out
00:09:30because it will really change your life.
00:09:34The men of the church coming together
00:09:37in prayer and in petition
00:09:39before the Blessed Sacrament
00:09:41is one of the most wonderful things
00:09:43that can happen,
00:09:44and indeed it is life-changing,
00:09:47and it is church-changing
00:09:49because our prayer as men,
00:09:52as men of strength,
00:09:53as men of courage,
00:09:54is very intercessory
00:09:57for God's blessing upon our holy church.
00:10:01Kurs and Konvo are coming up this summer.
00:10:04If any young people are interested
00:10:07in attending Kurs or Konvo,
00:10:09please let me know,
00:10:11and we will get that all set up for you.
00:10:14Please also remember that
00:10:15the costs for all of these events
00:10:18are paid for by the parish,
00:10:20so there's no cost to families
00:10:23to send their children to these events.
00:10:28Schedule for the week ahead,
00:10:30again, as I mentioned,
00:10:31well, tomorrow is the translated solemnity
00:10:34of the finding of the Holy Cross.
00:10:36We'll have Mass at noon.
00:10:38There'll be no Holy Mass on Tuesday.
00:10:40We'll have Marian devotions on Wednesday,
00:10:43and then Holy Mass on Thursday and Friday.
00:10:46Next Sunday,
00:10:47we have a normal Holy Mass schedule.
00:10:50As well as it's Mother's Day,
00:10:51and we'll have the crowning
00:10:53of the Blessed Virgin Mary on that day.
00:10:58And I think that's it.
00:11:01So, get out your red books.
00:11:08We're going to do this a cappella
00:11:10because we're that good.
00:11:14We'll do number 389
00:11:17as a hymn of thanksgiving to God
00:11:19for His wonderful blessing
00:11:21at our basket social.
00:11:24389,
00:11:25Let All Things Now Living.
00:11:30Let all things now living

00:11:46who fashioned and made us
00:11:50protected and stayed us,
00:11:53who guideth us on
00:11:57to the end of our days.
00:12:01His banners are o'er us,
00:12:05His light goes before us,
00:12:09a pillar of fire
00:12:12shining forth in the night.
00:12:16Till shadows have vanished
00:12:20and darkness is banished
00:12:24as our word we travel
00:12:28from light into light.
00:12:32His law He enforces
00:12:37the stars in their courses,
00:12:40The sun in His orbit

00:22:01The King of glory, now is risen from the dead.
00:22:08Christ is risen, we are risen,
00:22:13and upon us heavenly grace,
00:22:17rain and dew and gleams of glory
00:22:21from the brightness of thy face,
00:22:25that with hearts in heaven dwelling
00:22:29we on earth may fruitful be.
00:22:34Then by angel hands be gathered
00:22:38and be ever Lord with thee.
00:22:45The Lord be with you.
00:22:49And also with you.
00:22:53Let us pray.
00:22:55Heavenly Father,
00:22:57you promised that when we seek you with all our heart,
00:23:01we will find you.
00:23:02Give us such a total desire for you
00:23:05that we will not cease our search
00:23:08until you show us your salvation
00:23:11and reveal your presence.
00:23:13We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ,
00:23:17who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit,
00:23:20one God, forever and ever.
00:23:28Let us now be seated and attentive to the Lord's word.
00:23:59A reading from the Act of Apostles.
00:24:01As the number of disciples continued to grow,
00:24:06the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews
00:24:09because their widows were being neglected
00:24:13in the daily distribution.
00:24:16So the twelve called together the community of the disciples
00:24:21and said,
00:24:22It is not right for us to neglect the word of God
00:24:27to serve a table.
00:24:29Brothers, select from among you
00:24:32seven reputable men
00:24:35filled with the Spirit and wisdom
00:24:38whom we shall appoint to this task.
00:24:44Whereas, we shall devote ourselves to prayer
00:24:47and to the ministry of the word.
00:24:51The proposal was acceptable to the whole community,
00:24:56so they chose Stephen,
00:24:58a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit.
00:25:02Also, Philip,
00:25:06Pocorius,
00:25:07Nicarnar,
00:25:09Timon,
00:25:10Paraminas,
00:25:12and Nicholas of Antioch,
00:25:14a convert to Judaism.
00:25:17They presented these men to the apostles
00:25:20who prayed and laid hands on them.
00:25:23The word of God continued to spread
00:25:27and the number of disciples
00:25:29in Jerusalem increased greatly.
00:25:33Even a large group of priests
00:25:36were becoming obedient to the faith.
00:25:39The word of the Lord.
00:25:41Thanks be to God.
00:25:44Our response to our psalm today is,
00:25:47Lord, let your mercy be on us
00:25:50as we place our trust in you.
00:25:54Lord, let your mercy be on us
00:25:56as we place our trust in you.
00:26:01Exalt, you just in the Lord.
00:26:05Praise from the upright is fitting.
00:26:09Give thanks to the Lord on the harp.
00:26:12In the ten-string lair,
00:26:14chant his praises.
00:26:17Lord, let your mercy be on us
00:26:20as we place our trust in you.
00:26:23Upright is the word of the Lord
00:26:25and all his works are trustworthy.
00:26:28He loves justice and right.
00:26:31Of the kindness of the Lord,
00:26:34the earth is full.
00:26:36Lord, let your mercy be on us
00:26:39as we place our trust in you.
00:26:42See, the eyes of the Lord
00:26:45are upon those who fear him,
00:26:47upon those who hope for his kindness,
00:26:50to deliver them from death
00:26:53and preserve them in spite of famine.
00:26:58Lord, let your mercy be on us
00:27:01as we place our trust in you.
00:27:06A reading from the first letter of St. Peter.
00:27:09Beloved, come to him a living stone
00:27:13rejected by human beings,
00:27:16but chosen and precious in the sight of God.
00:27:21And, like living stones,
00:27:24let yourself be built into a spiritual house
00:27:28to be a holy priesthood
00:27:32to offer spiritual sacrifices
00:27:35acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
00:27:40For it says in Scripture,
00:27:42Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion,
00:27:46a cornerstone chosen and precious,
00:27:50and whoever believes in it
00:27:52shall not be put to shame.
00:27:55Therefore, its value is for you
00:27:58who have faith,
00:27:59but for those without faith,
00:28:03the stone that the builders rejected
00:28:06has become the cornerstone,
00:28:08a stone that will make people stumble
00:28:12and a rock that will make them fall.
00:28:15They stumble by disobeying the word
00:28:18as is their destiny.
00:28:21You are a chosen race,
00:28:26a royal priesthood,
00:28:27a holy nation,
00:28:30a people of his own,
00:28:32so that you may announce
00:28:34the praises of him
00:28:36who called you out of the darkness
00:28:39and enter his wonderful light.
00:28:42The word of the Lord.
00:28:44Thanks be to God.
00:29:05Please rise.
00:29:27It is written in the prophets,
00:29:30they shall all be taught by God.
00:29:33Everyone who listens to my Father
00:29:36and learns from him
00:29:37comes to me.
00:29:39Not that anyone has seen the Father,
00:29:42except the one who is from God.
00:29:44He has seen the Father.
00:29:49Alleluia.
00:29:52Alleluia.
00:29:56Alleluia.
00:30:10The Lord be with you.
00:30:12And also with you.
00:30:13A reading from the Holy Gospel
00:30:15according to St. John.
00:30:17Glory be to you, O Lord.
00:30:19Jesus said to his disciples,
00:30:21Do not let your hearts be troubled.
00:30:25You have faith in God.
00:30:27Have faith also in me.
00:30:29In my Father's house
00:30:31there are many dwelling places.
00:30:33If it were not,
00:30:34would I have told you
00:30:35that I am going to prepare
00:30:37a place for you?
00:30:38And if I go and prepare
00:30:39a place for you,
00:30:41I will come back again
00:30:42and take you to myself,
00:30:44so that where I am
00:30:46you also may be.
00:30:48Where I am going,
00:30:49you know the way.
00:30:50Thomas said to him,
00:30:52Master,
00:30:53we do not know
00:30:54where you are going.
00:30:55How can we know the way?
00:30:57Jesus said to him,
00:30:59I am the way
00:31:00and the truth
00:31:02and the life.
00:31:03No one comes to the Father
00:31:06except through me.
00:31:08If you know me,
00:31:09then you will also know my Father.
00:31:12From now on,
00:31:13you do know him
00:31:14and have seen him.
00:31:16Philip said to him,
00:31:17Master,
00:31:18show us the Father
00:31:19and that will be enough
00:31:20for us.
00:31:21Jesus said to him,
00:31:23Have I been with you
00:31:24for so long a time
00:31:26and you still do not
00:31:27know me,
00:31:28Philip?
00:31:29Whoever has seen me
00:31:31has seen the Father.
00:31:33How can you say,
00:31:34show us the Father?
00:31:36Do you not believe
00:31:37that I am in the Father
00:31:38and the Father is in me?
00:31:40The words that I speak to you
00:31:42I do not speak on my own.
00:31:44The Father who dwells in me
00:31:46is doing his works.
00:31:48Believe me
00:31:49that I am in the Father
00:31:50and the Father is in me
00:31:52or else believe
00:31:53because of the works themselves.
00:31:56Amen,
00:31:57amen,
00:31:57I say to you,
00:31:59whoever believes in me
00:32:01will do the works
00:32:02that I do
00:32:02and will do greater ones
00:32:04than these
00:32:05because I am going
00:32:06to the Father.
00:32:08This is the gospel
00:32:09of the Lord.
00:32:12Praise be to you,
00:32:13O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:32:26Praise be to you,
00:32:35O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:32:44and let it be
00:32:46and fill the hearts
00:32:50with love and shame.
00:32:54Praise be to you,
00:32:58and be we cry,
00:33:02O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:33:06Lord Jesus Christ.
00:33:09O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:33:11O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:33:12O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:33:47you are a chosen race a royal priesthood a holy nation a people of his own so that you may
00:33:57announce
00:33:57the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his own wonderful light in the name of the
00:34:05father and of the son of the holy spirit amen christ is risen alleluia let's try that again christ is
00:34:17risen alleluia christus martfistow prav jives martfistow in today's gospel jesus confronts his
00:34:32fearful disciples with a reality meant not just to reassure them but to give them a strong solid
00:34:43and everlasting reality of who he truly is the way the truth and the life i'm going to go on
00:34:54a little
00:34:54engine here a lot of people are going to tell you they have the solution they don't jesus is the
00:35:03way
00:35:04the truth and the life god himself who came among us god himself who said no one no one will
00:35:16come to the
00:35:17father except through him there is no other way there is no other solution there is no other provision
00:35:32as in several occurrences in john's gospel record of jesus's life jesus uses the term i am
00:35:43i am the way i am the truth i am the life those words are seemingly very simple to us
00:35:52who who speak
00:35:53english but when those words are rendered in hebrew they give us the actual name of god remember that
00:36:05when moses was up on the mountain and was confronted by the burning bush he had a dialogue with god
00:36:13and he said to god well if the people of israel ask me what is his name what shall i
00:36:21tell them
00:36:22is it bob you know i don't know so he was asking what what is your name god what am
00:36:28i going to tell them
00:36:29and god says i am who am i am that is my name that term is so sacred for devoted
00:36:42jews
00:36:43that they will not ever say the whole word like we say the word god right well a very devout
00:36:51jewish
00:36:52person will not say the word god they will render it g blank space or a dash d
00:37:03right they don't say the whole name of god right they don't say the whole name of god in jewish
00:37:09scripture
00:37:10and and our scriptures as well the name of god is rendered as the lord and those were that word
00:37:18lord
00:37:18is completely capitalized it is a uh alternative word that jewish people put into scripture so they did not
00:37:28have to say the sacred name of god it is that sacred it is that holy it is that important
00:37:38that it be honored
00:37:40and that humans should not speak it when jesus speaks those words at his trial at the sanhedrin before his
00:37:50execution his death and his burial the chief priest tears his robes now it's forbidden in scripture it is forbidden
00:38:02for the chief priest to ever tear his robe yet this chief priest
00:38:10caiphas tears his robe when a jewish person tears their garment it is a symbol an expression of horror
00:38:22it's an expression of outrage so he did that upon hearing what he considered jesus's blasphemy
00:38:31to say that he is god jesus is telling his disciples today and in turn he's telling all of us
00:38:41that he is god
00:38:44he is god he is telling us who are fearful who are often confused who are timid who are easily
00:38:55scared
00:38:55scared by the unknown that god is with us that god is the way the truth and the life
00:39:07and god is the means to overcome all of those things that challenge us
00:39:13if we take jesus's own words at face value and we take our own proclamation of faith
00:39:21which we're going to make in a few minutes seriously we have got we allow god's reality
00:39:29into our lives we allow his reality to penetrate our existence we grab onto the confidence that god
00:39:42really entered into our lives he entered into our reality
00:39:50he entered into the world to offer us his way his truth and his life for our strength
00:40:02we have been called into the light and saint peter puts this beautifully when he says we have become
00:40:10living stones living stones living stones and are solidly built into a spiritual house a spiritual home
00:40:21as people built into a spiritual fortress with christ's light which is in us let us face every challenge
00:40:34and you all know we have many let us face every challenge with the confidence and the security that god
00:40:43himself offers to us
00:40:46you are a chosen race a royal priesthood you are a people that god has set apart
00:40:55we are all that special to him so in turn we should be confident in him as our way our
00:41:05truth and our life
00:41:07in the name of the father and of the son of the holy spirit amen
00:41:24let us now rise and together profess our faith i believe in one god the father the almighty
00:41:32maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen i believe in one lord jesus christ
00:41:39the only son of god eternally begotten of the father god from god light from light true god from
00:41:47true god begotten not made of one being with the father through him all things are made for us and
00:41:54for
00:41:54our salvation he came down from heaven by the power of the holy spirit he was born of the virgin
00:42:01mary
00:42:01and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried
00:42:11on the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at
00:42:18the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and
00:42:24his kingdom
00:42:24will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord and giver of life who proceeds from the
00:42:31father
00:42:32with the father and the son he has worshiped and glorified he has spoken through the prophets i believe
00:42:38in one holy catholic and apostolic church i acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins i look for the
00:42:46resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen the lord be with you let us

00:52:19our Lord desired to make his love
00:52:22known to his disciples and
00:52:24all who would follow him.
00:52:25He therefore instituted these sacred

00:52:30himself with them spiritually
00:52:31and bodily in his whole
00:52:34being and abides with us
00:52:36forever. At that
00:52:38moment, so sacred for all
00:52:40of humanity, Jesus took
00:52:42bread into his holy hands
00:52:43and looking up to heaven, to you
00:52:46his almighty Father, he
00:52:48gave you thanks. He blessed
00:52:50the bread, broke it
00:52:51and gave it to his disciples saying
00:52:55take this
00:52:56all of you and eat it
00:52:57for this is my body
00:52:59which is given for you.
00:53:03Amen.
00:53:04Amen.
00:53:16When supper had ended
00:53:18he took the cup
00:53:19in the same way he gave you
00:53:21thanks, blessed it
00:53:23and gave it to his disciples
00:53:25saying
00:53:26take this
00:53:27all of you and drink from it
00:53:29for this is the cup of my
00:53:31blood
00:53:31the blood of the new and
00:53:33everlasting covenant
00:53:34which shall be shed for you
00:53:36and for many for the forgiveness
00:53:38of sins
00:53:38as often as you do this
00:53:41do it
00:53:42in remembrance of me.
