01:24Thank you so much, author of Who Says You Can't Win

01:29Hi, hello, yeah, yeah

01:30Thank you so much for having me here

01:32Oh, anytime, anytime

01:34You know, I have to ask the question

01:35And I'm going to go back in time

01:36And, you know, there had to be some kind of a pivotal moment for you

01:41When you decided you were going to write this book

01:43What was it that happened that just kind of said

01:47That's it, I'm done

01:48I'm writing it, I'm done

01:50Ooh, you know what, that's a good question

01:53And I have a very great answer

01:55So, I lost my mother

01:58I don't like to say lost

01:59My mother transitioned in 2022

02:03And I just started documenting things that I was going through

02:06You know, losing her

02:09The close of my company

02:11Just so many different ebbs and flows

02:13I was just writing them down

02:15Because I've always been one to write things out

02:17My mother was an author

02:18And that was just something she did

02:20And I kind of just always journaled

02:23And as I began to do that

02:24I just started writing things that were going on

02:27Within my life and in my situation

02:28And I decided, you know what

02:31I'm going to write about it

02:32And I began to take it from there

02:36Now, so your book highlights

02:38Resilience in the face of setbacks

02:40Can you share one of the most challenging moments you faced

02:42And how you managed to keep going?

02:45Absolutely

02:45Over these past few years

02:47It has really been a whirlwind for me

02:50So, that life itself

02:52Has been a setback

02:53And a setup for this great return

02:55So, I'll have to say it that way

02:57The shift happened with entrepreneurship

03:01Being the oldest

03:02Taking care of my mother

03:03Being her conservator and guardian

03:05After her losing

03:07Needing that voice

03:09But not having that voice

03:10Not knowing how to function

03:12You know, and then losing the company

03:15Relationships

03:15Everything was shifting

03:17And moving within my life

03:18And it was like, what do you do?

03:20I had to stand and I had to become

03:22And that's what I began to do with this

03:25You know, I find that it's difficult

03:27When you lose

03:29Because I lost my mom in 24

03:32And I feel like it was just yesterday

03:34Yes

03:35Yesterday

03:36I mean, I don't know if you ever really get over

03:39Losing, you know, your parents

03:41And being a parent

03:42Now I understand that they're going to lose me

03:47It's kind of hard, isn't it?

03:49It is

03:49But you do have to move forward

03:52How did your faith influence your ability to navigate

03:55In the uncertainty of this loss?

03:59So what my faith did was actually

04:02It stretched me

04:03Because everything that I had always known

04:06My faith to be

04:07Was being challenged and questioned

04:09Things were not moving for me

04:11The way they once were

04:12I was not hearing in my personal opinion

04:15God the way that I once did

04:17And the way that I was holding on to the faith

04:20You know, knowing him

04:21Began to unravel

04:23And I really say that I kind of

04:25I did that to myself as well

04:26Because you know, our words are powerful

04:28When we speak those things

04:29They become those things

04:31And I was saying things like

04:32I feel like I'm learning God differently

04:34And he's like, all right

04:35You feel like you're learning me differently

04:36Let me show you how better than much

04:38You can learn me differently

04:40And that's just what it was

04:41I began to learn differently

04:43How to, you know, really lean in

04:45And tap into truly who I am through him

04:49So how did you rediscover your sense of direction

04:52During that time then?

04:54Oh, geez

04:54I discovered my sense of direction

04:56Honestly, really outside of going within

04:58And really studying the scripture

05:00I really know that I was hearing

05:03I literally was hearing different presence

05:06And norms that I normally had not heard before

05:09And as I really began to sit still

05:12That's when things just began to shift

05:14I began hearing, you know, what my next steps was

05:17And how I needed to become

05:19And overall, all the tragedy

05:21I don't really want to say tragedy

05:23The trauma and experiences and circumstances

05:25That I was going through

05:26Began to really shift

05:28And make a different dynamic in my life

05:33You know that

05:35Those times

05:36You know

05:41You know how it feels

05:43When you can't really answer the question

05:44Yes, ma'am

05:45Because you're going through the whole thing in your mind

05:48Like, wow

05:49I remember when that took me for a loop

05:51I mean, what advice do you give someone

05:54Currently facing these unexpected setbacks

05:56And the questioning their path

05:58Because, I mean, just like I just did

06:00It's like, I don't even know what to say

06:02I really don't know how to put it

06:04Yeah, yeah

06:06So let me share with you

06:07What I love to share with people

06:09And what I will be sharing with people moving forward

06:11First and foremost

06:13Silence is volume

06:16Sitting in that silence

06:17You're already getting your answer

06:20You know

06:20I really believe that as you sit there in that silence

06:23That's when God truly begins to speak

06:26Also, I will let people know

06:28That when they're going through those wilderness

06:31You're being built

06:32Especially when you know that you have a calling

06:35You have to build up that capacity

06:37And that's what that's meant for me

06:40In order to really do that

06:41So what I would share with those

06:42Especially those that are walking into the entrepreneurial space

06:45Especially if you're saying

06:46Hey, this is what I endeavor to do

06:48Well, it's going to cost you some things

06:50It's going to cost you to really learn

06:52To step in

06:54To tap in

06:54To really realize who you are

06:56So that you can embody what those next steps are

06:59And how you're looking to impact others

07:01You have to be completely whole

07:03You have to make sure that all the trauma things

07:06That you've experienced

07:07Is no longer part of your life

07:09Because you're helping someone else

07:11You're helping gather

07:12Pretty much you're gathering your fragments

07:14Becoming whole

07:15And helping those other individuals

07:17With a template

07:18On how to be able to move forward

07:19And execute

07:20And then launch out into the deep

07:23Girl, stop

07:25Just stop

07:26It's just

07:27Boom

07:27It's true

07:29It is

07:30It's definitely true

07:31So in your book

07:32You mentioned mindset

07:33And the inner determination

07:35Yes

07:36As key factors in transformation

07:37Right?

07:38So how can someone cultivate these

07:40These qualities

07:41Even when they feel overwhelmed

07:44Like

07:45I mean, they're going to feel overwhelmed

07:46But how can they cultivate this?

07:49You know, it's a process

07:51It's a step-by-step process

07:52It's a

07:53It's a second-by-second process

07:54And I have to go back to

07:56The Bible

07:57Where it talks about

07:58Us dying of ourselves daily

07:59You're going to have to

08:01Continually condition your mind

08:03It's not

08:04Okay

08:05I've done it

08:06And I'm done

08:06It's a daily process

08:08It's a second-by-second process

08:10Being able to

08:11Steal your mind

08:12Be present

08:13What I've learned

08:14In this experience

08:15We're looking to the future

08:18Looking for things to change

08:19Or think that tomorrow

08:20Is going to be better

08:21Tomorrow is not tangible

08:23Our past is not tangible

08:25Only the present

08:27Is what you can feel

08:28So be in that moment

08:30And feel what's going on

08:32As you're able to be in that moment

08:34And feel that

08:35It'll begin to also help

08:37You know

08:37Remove some of the angst

08:39And that's what it is

08:40We are so focused on

08:42What's next

08:43What about what is

08:45And what is

08:47Is what we have right now

08:48So let's pay attention to it

08:49Let's lean into it

08:51And then let's begin

08:52To move into the next

08:54But we can't move

08:55Into the next

08:55Without standing still

08:57And being in this present moment

08:58Mm-hmm

08:59Your book says

09:01And I quote

09:04It says

09:05Who says

09:06You can't win

09:08How did you come up

09:09With that title

09:10And what do you mean

09:12By who says

09:13You can't win

09:15Okay

09:16I love that

09:17You asked me that

09:18So the win

09:20Is actually win

09:21You know

09:22We're all so fixed

09:23On when things

09:24Are going to change

09:25When things are going

09:26To turn the way

09:27That we want them to

09:28Win, win, win

09:29When will I win

09:31You're going to

09:32Again

09:33It's a fixed fight

09:34But do you have

09:35The capacity

09:37To steer that win

09:40Do you have

09:41What it takes

09:42To move to the next step

09:43We are all going

09:45To get to that next

09:46But you have to

09:47Make sure that you are okay

09:48And so I really

09:49Wanted people to understand

09:50It's not necessarily

09:51The win

09:52Which is W-I-N

09:53It's when you have

09:55The capacity to steer

09:56What it is

09:56That you're looking to build

09:57What you're looking to execute

09:59What you're looking to mobilize

10:00What you're looking to structure

10:02You have to become

10:03A better version

10:04Of what you are

10:05You can't go into

10:06Something new

10:07And again

10:07Scripture

10:08You can't go into

10:09Something new

10:09With old white skins

10:10You have to become

10:11Someone completely different

10:13When it happens

10:14It's up to you

10:15It's completely up to you

10:17But when you finally

10:18Get there

10:19That's where you're

10:20Supposed to be

10:22How is this journey

10:24This one

10:25You know

10:26Everybody's like

10:27Writing these books

10:28And stuff

10:28You know

10:28But how has this

10:29Affected you

10:30In your journey

10:31Yeah yeah

10:32It has changed me

10:34Now to be very honest

10:36I did not like it

10:38When I tell you

10:39I was angry

10:40I was so angry

10:42I was bitter

10:43I'm seeing everyone else

10:45Winning and doing things

10:47And succeeding

10:48And I'm like

10:48What's going on

10:49And not just that

10:51You know

10:51I'm a woman of faith

10:52I've grown up

10:53Into the word

10:54And this and that

10:55And I've been

10:56You know

10:56In ministry

10:58Over the years

10:59And things of that sort

11:00So my thing was

11:01What is going on

11:02I became angry

11:03And that's what it was

11:05It changed me

11:06With anger

11:07And then when you get

11:08So much anger

11:09And so much frustration

11:10You don't have any more

11:11Energy anymore

11:12It's like

11:12You know what

11:13I'm done

11:13Let's figure this out

11:15And that's when

11:16I was able to like

11:17Really release

11:18Let go

11:19Do the work

11:20That needed to be done

11:21And become a better

11:22Version of myself

11:23And I have to share this

11:24I actually

11:26Again of course

11:27I'm an entrepreneur

11:28My tagline

11:29For my business

11:30Has always been

11:31I like who I'm becoming

11:33Words have power

11:34I did not realize

11:35I had to become

11:37And I can share with you

11:38Now without fail

11:40I love who I have become

11:42And there's going to be

11:43Continued more iterations of me

11:45That is wonderful

11:46I am happy that you love

11:48Who you've become

11:49It takes a moment

11:50To actually do that though

11:52It takes a moment

11:52To actually step into

11:53Into who you want to be

11:57Have an idea

11:58But until you actually

12:04Want to walk

12:07It is difficult

12:20The journey is still

12:22Going on

12:23But what I want them

12:24To take away

12:24Is that they're not alone

12:34That was always

12:36The thing for me

12:37I was questioning
