00:00Austin Red Sox got a loss last night, unfortunately, but Chad Tracy felt like they had some chances here.
00:06Here was Chad Tracy after the game.
00:08We had our chances, for sure.
00:10I mean, we had a couple chances for a two-out hit, and we had a couple chances with a
00:14man at third and less than two.
00:15Four separate kind of opportunities to grab a lead there.
00:19And if we get a lead, you know, nurse it along.
00:21But 0-0 ballgame late, so you're trying to play the zero game with them and see if you can
00:25strike first.
00:26I know you didn't exactly bust out last night, but you did have a couple of home runs.
00:31Right.
00:31Does this feel like being kind of a step backward offensively?
00:34I mean, it's hard to say that because it's like there was chances there.
00:38You know, it's like whether it's a two-out hit or a line drive with a man on third, that
00:43you could look up and be up 3-0 in the same spot in that section of the game.
00:47So, again, gave ourselves the opportunities and we're a hit or two away from leading that game late and pushing
00:53it along and hopefully having Chapman in the game in the night.
00:55So, things change.
00:57You know, they change with momentum changes with the missed opportunities and you just got to keep going.
01:02I mean, optimistic fella.
01:04I really enjoyed having him on the show.
01:06But, I mean, at this point.
01:08They need to trade Chapman this year.
01:10Yes.
01:11Oh, my God.
01:12You could get a haul for him.
01:14Any contender.
01:15I mean, he's the best closer in baseball.
01:17Yeah.
01:17That's maybe Breslow's best move outside of offloading the Devers contract.
01:21I mean, you could be, if you're Craig Breslow, you could be working on a deal right now.
01:27There are teams that are talking and doing things.
01:30I mean, I would do that if you're really out of it.
01:33So, you would do deadline only on that.
01:35Because you don't want to quit.
01:36But you would do something now when it comes to trying to improve the offense, would you not?
01:42Yeah.
01:42I would trade Jaron Duran and Trevor Story for a lunch at the ground round for dinner.
01:48Well, that's the issue is that you should have.
01:50You probably, if you were going to do something with Duran, you should have done it when he was hitting
01:53the baseball.
01:54I mean, 0 for 5.
01:57Again, he, I'm sorry.
01:59If you guarantee yourself an out in that leadoff spot night after night, it's a tough way to win.
02:05Isn't that on Tracy to change that, though?
02:07Yes.
02:07I mean, Trace.
02:08He said that's why he likes to be caught.
02:09He likes to be caught.
02:10Isn't that on Trace to change that?
02:12Because I think if Alex Cora was still here, we would be knocking him, or at least Wiggy, if he
02:18was here.
02:19He would, Glampa, would be crushing him, saying, how do you still have him in that spot when you keep
02:24getting the same result?
02:25And I think the reason they haven't is because of his mental state.
02:32Okay.
02:32Well, what's he going to do, like attack them?
02:36Throw something in the clubhouse?
02:38Oh, my God.
02:39Right?
02:40Create a burner account?
02:41I mean, he used to have Chris Sale who would rip televisions off the wall in Worcester during his bad
02:46rehab starts.
02:47Yeah.
02:47But Chris Sale was more of a gentle, like, tall guy.
02:50I feel like Jaron Duran has got some rage issues.
02:53Yes.
02:53But I don't know what causes rage.
02:55He was probably, I was talking to Jones and Keith about this yesterday.
02:59He probably, when he saw the paper bag guys, he probably was like, Trace, what do you want me to
03:04do?
03:04I'll go out there and rip them off their head right now if you want.
03:07I got a dart.
03:09Yeah.
03:09I don't, I think, don't you think if there was anybody else and they had been struggling for this long,
03:14they'd be out of the leadoff spot by now?
03:16That's why I just don't get it.
03:17Like, if it's truly just because of off-field, and I, he's not a leader in the clubhouse, I don't
03:23understand any justification for keeping him there at this point.
03:26I agree.
03:27Yeah.
03:28So who else of value?
03:30Like, who, I mean, you have to figure the Yoshida situation out.
03:34Yeah.
03:35You know, and I don't know what Meyer will be, and obviously it's way too early to say he's not
03:41going to be a good Major League player.
03:42I'm going to go ahead and say he's not going to be an actor based on the commercials that he's
03:46writing.
03:46That is fair.
03:48But, like, you know how Sox fans get so connected to prospects?
03:53And it's like, you want to try Mayor?
03:55He's going to be the next, you know, Dustin Pedroia.
03:58Well, this is why when they're a top 10 prospect, you trade them for a known commodity, especially when you're
04:06the Boston Red Sox.
04:08Because, you know, I'm not saying they should, and I'm not saying Roman Anthony is going to be bad or
04:13that he's going to be injury prone.
04:14But in the aftermath of the World Baseball Classic, you could have traded Roman Anthony for Mike Trout.
04:21And I know that that's crazy talk, and you have him for cost certainty for seven years for $130 million,
04:27and Mike Trout's never won anything, and he's making $40 million a year or whatever.
04:30But there's a reason why those guys get $40 million and Roman Anthony gets a total contract of $130 million.
04:35So, it's just a cautionary tale.
04:38That would run totally contrary to, like, what Alex Cora was complaining about right before he got the boot here,
04:43which was you pay these young guys so that you can have financial control over them without totally knowing what
04:48they're going to be or seeing what they're developing.
04:51That may change their development, too, when they get this big contract early on, and they're not playing for that
04:58contract.
04:58Like, rather than going out and paying a – either making a huge trade or paying in free agency, somebody
05:05like a Mike Trout or like an Alonso.
05:07Right. That's why teams like the Red Sox always did it the opposite way.
05:12They would trade Yohan Mankata.
05:14They would trade guys to teams that were the – speculated to be a great, you know, future athlete, future
05:20star.
05:21Does John Henry care about the sell-the-team chants?
05:24Yes.
05:25Which are louder than –
05:25You think so?
05:26I don't think he does.
05:27Are you crazy?
05:28I don't think he does.
05:29You don't think he –
05:29In John Henry's day-to-day life, how many people walk up to him and tell him he's doing something
05:33wrong?
05:34Oh, Curtis, don't you – well, first of all, I mean, do you think that he's, like,
05:37going to the Starbucks by himself all the time?
05:39No, I'm saying –
05:40He's saying nobody ever –
05:41Nobody ever does.
05:41They're all – it's all guest people.
05:43So we're agreeing.
05:43Like, my dad would come home and tell me a joke and it wasn't funny, but the people at work
05:48laughed.
05:48I'm like, they have to, Dad.
05:50And so with John Henry, like, this is removing that wall.
05:56When he is at the stadium, why do you think they removed the brown paper bag hats?
06:01Like, of course it bothers him.
06:03That video – I guess we can't show it.
06:05The video of him at Fenway hearing it and he's like, what are they saying?
06:09Yeah.
06:09I'll sell the team?
06:11Like, it was like – to him it was like –
06:12Yeah, but he was like – just to jump in, he was, like, almost smirking at that.
06:18Like, it was –
06:18That's what you do when you're nervous.
06:19It read a smugness of, you think I'm going to sell this cash cow?
06:24Get out.
06:24Right.
06:25And that – you react in that way when you're like, these ingrates.
06:28Like, defensive.
06:29Right.
06:30I think – but to your point, because you've been so in front of this, Curtis, don't you think that
06:35he is riding out this season because the lockout is going to happen next year?
06:40And so he's like, who really cares about this season?
06:43When the lockout happens and we have a salary cap, nobody can complain about how we spend anymore because everybody
06:49else will be in the same boat.
06:50Right.
06:51And we're cheap and we have to – we made the decision to do it this way with young guys
06:56who are cheap.
06:58And so we're going to – ride it out is a great way to say it.
07:01We're going to ride it out through the lockout or whatever happens there and come back and we're going to
07:06be in a great spot when it comes to the salary cap.
07:09A hundred percent, Mago.
07:10Not to take back my tinfoil hat, but do we think it's a coincidence that Cora was canned in the
07:19aftermath of the Ken Rosenthal comments where he complained about what Megan just alluded to?
07:24Megan.
07:25Mago.
07:25I'm in trouble.
07:27Megan Elizabeth.
07:28Go to your room.
07:29And they – when he said that, you know, the way they were building rosters, it's difficult to manage because
07:35you kind of had to silence Cora.
07:37And as long – because I was just thinking when Megan was talking about, like, well, then why wouldn't they
07:41have just rode it out with Cora this year?
07:42He's a guy that – and part of the reason I believe they got rid of him is that he
07:47was no longer willing to be the loyal puppet.
07:49And so when they think that he's out there talking out of school about the approach and how he disagrees
07:55with it, when we believe the contract extension for Cora legitimized what they were doing, he was in the process
08:01of undoing that.
08:02And so I think that more so than the record – because they had just won 17 to 1.
08:07Yeah, and I also think that he was not a yes guy when it comes to Bresbott and Bresbott saying
08:15this is the way we're doing it and, you know, get on board.
08:18And he was not on board with that.
08:21Right.
08:22And I do think you're going to start to see more and more of the fan outrage at ownership.
08:27And, I mean, I've seen – we all remember the opening night at Gillette Stadium when Portnoy had those Cadell
08:33clown hats or clown shirts.
08:35Like, I guarantee you, you'll be seeing Fenway Park overtaken by that stuff.
08:40All right.
08:41Well, that is – they said it from the ground round in Shrewsbury Roadshow number one.
