00:12Independent Senator Marlene Atts, when asked about the current state of emergency, which is due to come to an end

00:19Senator Atts says the state of emergency seems to be just one strategy of the government's crime plan,
00:25given the newly established police posts expected in various locations around the country.
00:30But there may be a challenge in balancing resources.
00:33So the state of emergency is one aspect of their strategy, as I will call it.
00:38I don't know that they're calling it that, but I will call it as one part of their strategy.
00:41The other part is up now with the establishment of these 30 plus joint patrol posts.
00:47And I think the reality is that we have to face resource constraints.
00:51So it would seem to me counterintuitive to have both a state of emergency where you have a call on
00:59the resources of the army and the police and also have these additional posts.
01:03So it seems counterintuitive to me to have both of them operationalized.
01:06And she suggests that the SOE should end to give the police posts a chance to show what they are
01:11capable of.
01:12So it could be some sequential approach that you will end the state of emergency and you will give the
01:17joint posts the opportunity to see what impact it has on crime in specific areas.
