00:00The federal court has adjourned former FELDA chairman Isa Samad's application to set aside his conviction for receiving more than
00:093 million ringgit in kickbacks linked to the purchase of a hotel in Kuching 12 years ago.
00:15The adjournment was granted after the court allowed the defense's request to view recordings of the proceedings on February 5th
00:23and 10th with Chief Judge of Malaya Hashim Hamza saying we are allowing the application in the interest of justice.
00:31Isa claims there was a breach of natural justice as his lawyer was denied the opportunity to make submissions on
00:38his behalf prior to the Apex court's verdict.
00:41Also on the panel hearing Isa's review application were Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Aziza Nawawi and Justice Colin
00:50Lawrence-Sakira.
00:51In 2021, Isa was convicted by the High Court of nine corruption charges involving 3.09 million ringgit and was
00:59sentenced to six years in jail and fined 15.5 million ringgit.
01:04Two years ago, the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction and sentence.
01:08However, on February 10th, the federal court restored both conviction and sentence and ordered that Isa begin his jail term
01:16immediately.
01:17On March 4th, Isa filed for review under Rule 137 saying his lawyer, M. Adimulan, was not given a right
01:24of reply.
01:25The prosecution, however, said Adimulan had declined to make oral submissions when asked during the February 5th hearing.
