00:00The Court of Appeal today acquitted composer and singer Yassin Sulaiman on all three drug-related

00:07charges. In a unanimous decision, a three-judge panel comprising Justices Cheruzima Ghazali,

00:14Colin Lorenz-Sekera, and Azmi Arifin overturned the High Court's conviction sentencing Yassin

00:20to life imprisonment and 16 strokes of the rotan. However, it reinstated the Sessions

00:26Court's decision ordering Yassin to be placed at Hospital Bahagya Ulukinta, Pera at the pleasure

00:32of the Sultan of Selangor. The Appeals Court ruled that the lower court had made an error

00:36when it dismissed the report provided by the first defense witness, Dr. Ian Lloyd Anthony,

00:41a consultant forensic psychiatrist from Hospital Bahagya, as hearsay. The court also noted that

00:47the trial judge had made findings on the issue of legal insanity, but there was no detailed

00:52elaboration provided on these. On August 22, 2024, the Shalam High Court sentenced the

00:58Mimfi Laila Singer to life imprisonment and ordered that he also be given 16 strokes of

01:03the rotan after he was convicted of the three drug-related charges.
