00:00I'm Lissy Fink and this week is 5 days of rejuvenation.
00:07Happy New Year!
00:09It's officially 2017 and I am totally exhausted after the holidays.
00:15Last year I did a lot of traveling, a lot of partying, but now I have a whole new year
00:20ahead of me.
00:21And I've done just about all the research I possibly can on interesting ways to recharge, so here we go.
00:26Day 1. What's the classic way to help out your skin after a holiday filled with alcohol and sugar and
00:32not enough sleep?
00:33A facial!
00:35I went to Naturopathica for a luxurious hour-long bioenergy lift facial.
00:41My treatment manager used lots of different wands on my face.
00:44One that felt like a bit of a suction cup while it cleaned,
00:47and another that was all warm that was using heat to help infuse the bioenergy lift serum into my skin.
00:52So this is a facial for fatigued, devitalized skin.
00:56We use a really innovative technology called liquid microdermabrasion.
01:00And what these do is they stimulate the fibroblasts in the skin to actually build more collagen and to oxygenate
01:07the skin.
01:07Immediately afterwards, I looked in the mirror and my skin looked so much better than it's looked in the past
01:12three weeks.
01:13Plus, all of my Snapchat friends said that my skin was glowing.
01:17I felt so great after that that I made a New Year's resolution to get a new facial once a
01:22month for the rest of my existence.
01:24Who wants to pay?
01:29My skin feels better even one day after the facial and my blemishes from the past few weeks are finally
01:36starting to shrink.
01:37I decided that today I wanted to do something to rejuvenate and relax my brain,
01:41but I've already done meditation so I needed to find out what else was out there.
01:45That's when I discovered binaural beats on YouTube.
01:48Turns out YouTube has a whole slew of videos that promote relaxation and concentration.
01:54Binaural beat is the auditory illusion that our brains perceive when two different sound frequencies are presented to our different
02:00ears at the same time.
02:01So if you put on stereo headphones, one frequency goes into one ear and the other frequency goes into the
02:06other ear,
02:07and those frequencies begin to mesh and create a third signal that our brain perceives,
02:11and that third signal is called the binaural beat.
02:13Science!
02:14I went into the office bright and early this morning before anyone else was at work,
02:18hopped on my stereo headphones, and listened to binaural beats on YouTube for about one hour.
02:22In case you've never heard a binaural beat before, it sounds kind of like this.
02:29Think space, dreamy, relaxing, flowing, streaming, tonal, beats.
02:38Binaural beats compel the parts of our brain that perceive sound to oscillate at the same frequency as the binaural
02:44beat,
02:45which both calms you down and also allows you to think more clearly.
02:48So overall, binaural beats are a great way to start the day.
02:52I can't exactly tell you if my brain cells were regenerating or if the response time between my synapses was
02:58increasing,
02:59but I can say that it was extremely calming and quite the relaxing way to start a busy day at
03:04work.
03:08So far, I've focused on treating my face and my brain, but today I was feeling like my skin and
03:13my body were a bit neglected.
03:15My plan this month is to hoard a whole bunch of beauty products and test them all out
03:19and see what I like best and what works best on my skin.
03:22So please comment below giving me ideas and suggestions.
03:25In the meantime, though, I was able to get my hands on five that I started with today.
03:29Number one, magnesium bath flakes.
03:32These are sort of like Epsom salt, so it's really good for soothing muscles and aches and stiffness in a
03:37warm bathtub.
03:38Number two, a dried flower blend that you spoon into warm water and then breathe in deeply to help open
03:44your pores and bring some vitality to your skin.
03:47Three, a vitality tea to support my immune system and wake me up a bit.
03:51Four, muscle oil to soothe pain, perfect for after my evening aerial yoga class.
03:57And five, a cruelty-free and vegan matcha soap bar since green tea is filled with antioxidants that are great
04:03for cellular health.
04:04So after using those five products today, I smell pretty good.
04:11I would highly recommend all of the products I use and I seriously want your suggestions.
04:16So comment below this minute.
04:18Thanks.
04:22My skin has been so soft all day from that matcha soap.
04:26I just don't know what's in it, but I'm smooth.
04:29Today I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and I went to do something that I've not only never
04:34done,
04:35but something that I've been afraid to try.
04:37Take a guess.
04:38You are getting very sleepy.
04:42Oh.
04:43Hypnosis.
04:45I went to Maha Rose in Brooklyn and had an hour-long session with a hypnotherapist.
04:50So hypnosis means sleep.
04:52And that's what we're working.
04:53We're working with that sleep state.
04:55In that state of mind, everybody is more suggestible.
04:58So we work with our natural state of suggestibility to change our minds.
05:04At first she spoke to me about the stress points in my life
05:07and what colors these stress points materialized in, where they were being stored in my body.
05:13And then she had me lie on the magic table.
05:15She put an eye pillow on my eye and I came this close to falling asleep.
05:24So it's not like that cheesy stage hypnotism that happens in schools or at camps
05:30where people are hypnotized for entertainment and they do crazy embarrassing things.
05:34It's more so realizing that you have the power in your own body and mind
05:38to put yourself in a comfortable position whenever you need.
05:41Then I went to their crystal shop outside and learned all about crystals and chakras.
05:45She told me to take a look around and pick any crystal that was just calling my name,
05:48for whatever reason, whether it's the color or the energy of it or the way it feels in my hand.
05:53I took one look at this orange calcite and knew it was the one.
05:57And then what's even weirder is that I read the card about what orange calcite actually does
06:01and it's perfectly aligned with five days of rejuvenation.
06:05It's all about energizing and cleansing.
06:07My energy led me in the right direction.
06:12After exploring a few different ways to rejuvenate,
06:15I wanted to do something on the last day that was a bit more attainable
06:18and something that I know I can always do whenever I feel the need to just chill.
06:23While there are tons of physical and mental things,
06:25like some of the things I've already done this week,
06:27that pretty much across the board help with cell regeneration or relaxation,
06:31there are also certain activities we can do to help us decompress and unwind.
06:35But which activity will work best for you really varies from person to person.
06:39I've learned that my medicine is fresh air.
06:41So I spent this morning hiking just outside of the city
06:44and then I made it back to Manhattan just in time for work.
06:47Getting away from the city, putting my phone down,
06:50getting off of social media, and just spending time by myself in nature
06:53is really what I need to reset and recharge for what's ahead.
06:57Let me know what you do to rejuvenate at the beginning of a new year.
07:00If you like this video, please give me a thumbs up.
07:03And as always, let me know what you want to see next time on Try Living with Lucy.
