00:00I'm Lucy Fink and this week is five days of self-love.
00:08Hey guys, it's me, Lucy.
00:10A little while back, my video team surprised me on set with Drew Barrymore.
00:15Check it out.
00:16Hi!
00:17How are you?
00:18Oh my god, what is happening?
00:21The makeup artist couldn't come, so I came instead.
00:24She was one of the sweetest, most free-spirited, most self-confident people I had ever met in my entire
00:30life.
00:31And a few days after I met her, I stumbled upon this quote of hers.
00:34I think happiness is what makes you pretty, period.
00:37Happy people are beautiful.
00:39They become like a mirror and they reflect that happiness.
00:42Self-love.
00:43It's not always an easy thing to understand or to achieve.
00:47Real, genuine self-love grows and accumulates over time when we actively take care of and appreciate ourselves
00:53and do things to help us grow mentally, physically, and spiritually.
00:57Each day this week, I'm gonna do something different to help bolster and build that self-love.
01:02Day one.
01:03One of the most important ingredients to self-love is self-esteem.
01:07Although it's a little awkward at first, standing in front of the mirror and reciting affirmations is a great way
01:13to help build and grow that self-esteem.
01:15I accept myself and love myself.
01:17I radiate love and respect.
01:19My mind is full of gratitude for my lovely and wonderful life.
01:25I'm doing two other things today that are so closely tied to self-love.
01:29Journaling and meditating.
01:31I journaled before and after work, making a list of things that I'm grateful for in my life.
01:36And then I sat right here on my bed after work, meditated for 20 minutes, and got some much-needed
01:40Lucy time just thinking and breathing.
01:48Today is all about practicing self-love by appreciating and taking good care of your body.
01:54And I think one of the best ways to do that is to learn about nutrition.
01:58Because knowledge is power.
02:00Christy Harrison is the nutritionist that I've been in touch with for previous episodes of Try Living With Lucy.
02:05From five days on a juice cleanse to five days of paleo, she's always given her input and she's great.
02:11Hi!
02:12She came over to my apartment today and taught me her approach to having a peaceful relationship with food.
02:18Intuitive eating.
02:20We're all born as intuitive eaters.
02:22It's a very self-loving sort of practice.
02:24It's, you know, tuning into your body, your hunger and fullness cues, your desires for specific foods, your satisfaction, and
02:32using those to guide your food choices.
02:34I'm thinking about what sounds good to me and not cutting out gluten or dairy or sweets or any of
02:40the things that are sort of trendy to cut out right now.
02:42With this diet culture, there's just, you don't know who to listen to or what's right.
02:47So I feel like the best thing I can do is just listen to myself.
02:50Yeah.
02:52So if I'm going to be intuitively eating for the rest of this week, you wouldn't actually tell me what
02:56to do.
02:57You would just say, do what your body tells you?
02:59Yeah.
02:59So just open the fridge.
03:01See what you've got.
03:02Right.
03:03See what you've got.
03:04Honoring your hunger and your fullness and also what your body tells you.
03:07Thanks, Christy.
03:09So after speaking to her, I ate intuitively all day.
03:13Today took me back in time to a place before the media told me what I should be eating and
03:17how I should be feeling after I ate certain things.
03:20Who knows more than my body when I'm hungry or when I'm full?
03:23Nobody.
03:27Even the people who tell you, I have no regrets, have regrets.
03:33Step three to garnering self-love is learning how to forgive yourself.
03:38I know there are a ton of ways to clear your mind and eradicate those feelings of regret, but today
03:43I tried something new and fun.
03:47A write and burn.
03:48I listed out my top five regrets on small pieces of paper.
03:52They're personal, so I'm not going to share them aloud.
03:55Folded them up, lit them on fire, and watched them burn away.
03:59It was beautiful.
04:00Of course, I know that this is not actually going to burn up and get rid of those thoughts forever.
04:04But this is definitely a great method to help you ease some of that anxiety and let go of some
04:09of that burden.
04:14I've heard that waking up and setting a clear intention or purpose for the day is one of the keys
04:20to learning how to accept and love yourself.
04:22To this morning, I woke up and wrote down three intentions.
04:25Number one, be patient with yourself and others.
04:28One of my biggest pet peeves, slow walkers in New York City.
04:32Normally, when I'm stuck behind them, this is how I feel.
04:36Sir?
04:37Excuse me.
04:39Excuse me!
04:40Sir!
04:41But in situations like that today, I just took a deep breath, smiled, breathed, and let it go.
04:47Like this.
04:51Excuse me, sir.
04:53And that feels really great.
04:55Number two, don't say anything negative about yourself.
04:58I think one of the times that we all do that is when we get a compliment and we deflect
05:02it.
05:02It's almost like the moment someone says something nice to us, we need to shut it down or else it
05:06gets really awkward.
05:07So instead of doing something like this.
05:09I love that sweater.
05:11Oh, this?
05:12No.
05:13I think it's like too shiny, right?
05:15Rewind.
05:15Do it like this.
05:16I love that sweater.
05:21Number three, have fun.
05:23When was having fun the most fun?
05:25When we were kids.
05:26So to have fun, I went to my cameraman's apartment and spent the whole afternoon playing Nintendo 64.
05:32I used to play these games every single day after school.
05:35So it really brought me back.
05:36I felt happy and carefree.
05:38Oh my God.
05:39And you really feel a lot more love for yourself when you're smiling, laughing, and not taking
05:43yourself too seriously.
05:45First place after years of playing that game.
05:51Happy Friday.
05:52The last step to practicing self love for me is drum roll please.
05:58I love my job so much.
06:01Treat yourself.
06:02I started today by writing a list of some of the things I love most in this world.
06:06And then I proceeded to do each and every one of them.
06:09Here was my list.
06:10Eat a huge bowl of fruity pebbles.
06:12Read two chapters of a good book.
06:14Take a hot bath.
06:15Watch Modern Family.
06:17Video chat with my twin sister.
06:20Buy myself pizza.
06:21Connect with the Instagram art community.
06:24Eat cookies.
06:26And do karaoke in the living room.
06:31Those are some of the things that I love doing.
06:34And by actively allowing myself to enjoy and indulge in some of the things I love,
06:39I was in turn loving myself.
06:41Now I want to know how you practice self love.
06:44So comment below letting me know what would be on your list.
06:46And as always, let me know what you want to see me try next time on Try Living With Lucy.
06:51And if you want to send me pizza, just look up the Refinery29 address and just mail it over.
06:55Thanks.
