00:00The birthing of a blood diamond.
00:02Shark week.
00:03Ant flow.
00:04Hey YouTube!
00:05It's me, Lucy, and today we're talking about the red coats are coming!
00:09Periods.
00:10To be very technical, the uterine lining just sheds, comes out the vagina opening, and it
00:18looks like blood, but it's not blood, right?
00:22This is a very interesting topic for me to be talking about because it's not very on
00:26brand for what I normally discuss on YouTube.
00:28But then I took a step back and I realized that around 50% of the world's population
00:33will have or has already gotten their period.
00:36So at the end of the day, it's not really like this top secret topic.
00:41It's just a topic.
00:42So here I am telling the world I, Lucy Think, have my period.
00:48That's out there.
00:48Periods are a very interesting story for me to discuss because I actually got my period
00:54quite late in my life.
00:56I was in 10th grade, about 15, and I wanted my period so badly.
01:03I asked Santa for my period for Christmas.
01:06I asked my parents if I could have my period.
01:07At camp, I used to draw in my underwear with red marker and tell my counselor, I got my period.
01:14And she was like, no, you didn't, Lucy, that's red marker.
01:17And I was like, oh.
01:19Well, I think I have cramps.
01:20I just could not wrap my brain around the fact that these other girls around me were getting it,
01:24and I wasn't.
01:25I would sit at home and I would think, why has this higher figure in heaven above not blessed
01:31me yet with that red monthly flow?
01:33And then I realized everyone's on a different cycle, and it comes for everyone when their
01:38body's ready for it.
01:39I wasn't ready for it until January 7th, 2008.
01:43And on that blessed day, it was in the middle of fourth and fifth period, I went to the bathroom,
01:49and I sat on the toilet, and as I was wiping, I noticed a little bit of period.
01:54I don't know how most people reacted when they first got their period.
01:58Please comment below and let me know if you were as excited as I was, because I screamed
02:03in the stall.
02:04And I called my mom, and I'm like, mom.
02:07She arrived.
02:08She is here.
02:09She has arrived.
02:11Aunt Flo has come to town.
02:13All of my friends knew about this, because everyone knew how excited I was to get her.
02:18I have wall posts from 2008 from some of my best friends saying like, yeah, woo, congrats,
02:23Lou.
02:24And it got so out of hand, like friends congratulating me and sending me smiley faces, and it just
02:29got so out of hand that my brother wrote on my wall and was like, Lou, it's really weird
02:34that your friends are congratulating you publicly.
02:36And he was right.
02:37It might have been weird, but everyone celebrates in their own ways.
02:40Now if we fast forward to 2017, so it's been about nine years since I've had my period,
02:47I'm not all that excited about her anymore.
02:49On the one hand, because I'm a sexually active person, I'm very excited when I get my period,
02:54and I'm like, yeah, we got past teen pregnancy.
02:57But on the other hand, I'm like, oh, four days of this?
03:01Pads and tampons.
03:02Another hot topic.
03:04Do you prefer pads or tampons?
03:05Comment below.
03:06Let me know, because I am a tampon girl.
03:08I think pads make me feel like I'm just sitting in my own filth.
03:11This is really graphic now.
03:13This is getting graphic.
03:13But I will always remember the first time I put a tampon in, not gonna lie, my best friend
03:18put it in for me.
03:19It was like a bathroom experience out of our mitzvah.
03:22And she showed me how to push it in.
03:24She showed me the right angle because a lot of people don't know the proper angle.
03:28A lot of people try to just stick it straight up, but you really need to tilt it a little.
03:32She was like, relax, relax.
03:34You'll see that it's not actually painful if you are not clenching so tightly.
03:38So then I just relaxed, and she pushed it up, and then we released the trigger together,
03:43and then I had a tampon in, and I was so excited about it.
03:46As for period sex, I think you do you.
03:49I would say it's all about your comfort level and your partner's comfort level.
03:52You guys need to decide together if the fact that she's flowing changes the dynamic
03:57of the situation, and if not, then totally just do it like normal.
04:03If you're a young person, and you have yet to get your period, don't freak out.
04:08I was freaking out, and I would have loved if someone who was a little older
04:11had made a video saying, don't freak out.
04:13I think that everybody's body is different, and you should speak to your GYN.
04:17I want you to take anything away from this video.
04:19It is that you should be completely open and willing to talk about your period
04:24with anyone that wants to help you, whether it's a friend, a parent, a guidance counselor.
04:29You can talk to people.
04:30You can comment below.
04:31I'll be your friend.
04:32I'll answer your questions.
04:33I'll look stuff up on WebMD.
04:35I'm here for you in your period time of need.
04:38Thanks for watching this video about periods.
