00:00I'm so excited, guys.
00:04We are in Joshua Tree, California.
00:07We are here to celebrate Black women, Black women in luxury.
00:13And really just focus on ourselves for the first time in a while.
00:17Big vacation energy.
00:25My name is Sandy Pierre, and I am the Brand Partnerships lead at Unbothered.
00:30I'm Maya, and I'm a social strategist at Refundering 29 Unbothered.
00:33My name is Inaye Komunibo.
00:35I am Unbothered's culture critic, so I write about entertainment, pop culture,
00:40basically all things Black people's business.
00:42I'm Vanessa Koger, and I am a style and culture writer.
00:49We're out here filming an episode for Weekend House.
00:52In Joshua Tree, this is my first time, and I'm super excited.
00:55This is really nice.
00:57We outside, we outside.
01:00Seatbelts, please.
01:02Let's say a prayer.
01:03Lord, thank you for this day.
01:04We're going to have a great time in Joshua Tree being glam and looks.
01:08Soft life.
01:09Amen.
01:10Amen.
01:11A pretty purse.
01:14Ooh, so the girls, you know, it's high energy, spicy, a little shade, but it's all fun.
01:21These are women that I know I can go to and I can talk to about anything.
01:24We're going to turn up and we're going to have fun.
01:27First road trip together.
01:29Oh, guys.
01:30It's been so long since we've seen each other in person.
01:34Honestly, I have never been on a road trip, so it was really good to, one, be in a car
01:38that was luxurious.
01:40It had, like, the leather seats, it had the good vibes, the surround sound, the bumping AC, so it was
01:45not only nice to have a car that was comfy, but it was good to have good vibes with my
01:49girls in the car.
01:50We're about to go to our weekend house.
01:52See?
01:53We got the pool vibes.
01:55Right.
01:56Just so we could just relax, because we work hard.
01:58I was just going to say we deserve it.
02:00Yeah, we do deserve it.
02:01We work very, very, very hard.
02:03Soft life for me is low anxiety, high boundaries.
02:06Mm-hmm.
02:07Because one thing about it, you're not going to violate.
02:10Yeah.
02:10Where are you going?
02:11You have to play with me.
02:13That's what you're not going to do, okay?
02:15Luxury, to me, honestly, it's really just about pampering myself and living to my fullest potential.
02:25It's just, like, centering myself in peace.
02:28I'm all about that.
02:29Have y'all been to Joshua Tree before?
02:30No, I've never been.
02:32I'm glad that it's four black girls going to Joshua Tree.
02:34Because I feel like that's not necessarily the place that a lot of black people would think of, like, oh,
02:38let's go.
02:39And four black dark sneakers.
02:40Mm-hmm.
02:41Okay, come on.
02:41The melanin is popping.
02:42Put your melanin out.
02:44Put your melanin out.
02:44Uh-uh.
02:45Put your melanin out.
02:46Oh, okay.
02:47You can't do the name.
02:49No, yeah, sorry.
02:49Two hands on the wheel.
02:50Two hands on the wheel.
02:51Yeah, not you.
02:51Y'all see.
02:52Y'all see.
02:53Right.
02:53Y'all see.
02:54Out of everybody in the group, Sandy is 110% always on her luxury behavior.
02:58If Sandy's not flying herself out, she's getting fluid out, she's just that girl.
03:03And one day, I'm going to be like Big Sans.
03:05We just play some music.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Alexa, play that unbothered playlist.
03:13Comfort is so important, especially as a New Yorker.
03:16The train is not great.
03:17But you know what's great?
03:18An Acura Integra that listens to your commands and is comfortable and makes you feel safe,
03:23too, when you're on the road.
03:25Shout out to me.
03:27Yes, shout out to you.
03:28Shout out to me.
03:29Shout out to me.
03:30Shout out to me.
03:31I call dibs on the biggest room.
03:32Whatever, I got the one with the cool.
03:33Nope.
03:34Not until I get it back.
03:35Are you guys...
03:36Okay.
03:38Okay.
03:38That's what we're going to do.
03:48It's super important for Black women to feel like they have access to Black luxury because
03:52for a long time, they told us that we couldn't have it.
03:56Woo!
04:12During the sound bath, I felt like it was very much storytelling.
04:16Some sounds were very aggressive.
04:17As the lighter sounds came through, I was like, okay, I kind of like this.
04:20So I opened up a little more and was willing to receive those sounds.
04:22I don't think I've been that quiet in years.
04:26So it was really hard for me because I am always, like, talking inside my head and, like,
04:30to other people or whatever.
04:31So it's something for me to practice being quiet by myself.
04:34Sometimes I feel guilty for just spending a day doing absolutely nothing.
04:39But it's those days where you are able to regroup and just to, you know, refresh yourself
04:45to start, you know, the week.
04:47The body will always keep score.
04:48Even if you think that you're fine, at some point you're going to run out of steam.
04:51And I think that a sound bath or just laying down, meditation, getting away from your normal surroundings
04:57can be so helpful because it can reset your body.
05:14So I know that we basically see each other, like, every week and we talk to each other every single
05:18day, but isn't it nice to see each other outside of the virtual office?
05:24Yes, very much so.
05:25Absolutely.
05:25It was different.
05:26And also, too, I feel like I know you guys, but now I really feel like I know you guys
05:31traveling together
05:32and getting to really see your personality shine in person versus virtual has been a blessing.
05:39When we think about soft life, it's about living in the now.
05:42You want to take that time off of work.
05:45Take that time off of work.
05:45You want to have that relationship.
05:47You want to do that thing.
05:48You want to buy that bag.
05:49Like, enjoy your life.
05:51That's why we're here in Joshua Tree having such a good time because we deserve it.
05:55I also think it's so important for Black women to claim luxury, whether that is buying designer or whether that
06:03is buying that's health easy.
06:05You know what I'm saying?
06:06Like, it's how we perceive it individually.
06:10My favorite part about tapping into luxury on this trip has been connecting with my coworkers and just the lovely
06:16dinner that we had.
06:18Never had a chef cook for me, so that was like, ooh, yes.
06:20We were able to be real and open with each other, and I was able to learn new things about
06:25them.
06:27My love language is acts of service.
06:30I mean, that's just my general love language, but I think that checking in on your friends is so important,
06:34especially when you're with them on a trip or at work or anywhere because you never know what people are
06:39going through.
06:40I was blessed enough to have a job where I was able to find people that I could call my
06:44friends,
06:45and I don't feel like that's been a consistent thing for me throughout life, so I was really thankful for
06:48that
06:49and thankful that we were able to have this moment together.
06:52Traveling changed my life and just, like, my viewpoint on things.
06:56I feel like being in one space, you can often get small-minded and not really understand.
07:02Like, there is so much more outside of, like, your comfort zone.
07:07It's time to go.
07:08Bye, house. I'm gonna miss you.
07:11Mm-mm.
07:12Look at this view, y'all.
07:13No, I'm gonna miss this view.
07:15Girl, what about the shower?
07:17Let's go, y'all.
07:19All right.
07:23Seatbelts, everybody.
07:24Yes, a safety first.
07:26Definitely.
07:27I feel like y'all trying to shake me.
07:29No, no.
07:29No, no.
07:30Let's get the playlist going.
07:33Girl.
07:33See, Alexa, play that unbothered playlist.
07:37Yeah.
07:37Thanks.
07:39Thanks.
07:39Thanks.
07:45Thanks for having me together!
