00:00So in my living room, I actually have two of my biggest finds and steals of cash.
00:06Sick.
00:07Hi guys, I'm Shelby Trishurn, and this is Cash.
00:11Welcome to my sweet digs.
00:13Fun facts about my apartment, it was actually made in the 1970s, and that's what inspired my aesthetic.
00:18All right, come on in.
00:21I live in a one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles, California, in the Brentwood area, and I pay $23.50
00:26for rent.
00:33For the rent price, it's great. I can walk everywhere.
00:36My favorite coffee shop is Alfred's. It's right down the street.
00:40My absolute favorite restaurant near my apartment is Sugarfish.
00:44It's fresh sushi. I can walk to it in three minutes. I feel super lucky.
00:48The apartment was originally listed for close to $2,800, and then I got it down to $2,350.
00:54I used to live right down the street, and one night I walked by this apartment and loved the architecture
00:59on the outside.
01:00And I looked at it and said, I'm going to live there one day, and sure enough, a year later,
01:04now I'm here.
01:05I would describe my home style as mid-century, funky boho, if that's even a thing.
01:11I'm really into old rock. I love the 70s. I also love the 50s.
01:15So I really want to incorporate those fun colors, funky retro prints.
01:21So when you first walk into my apartment, it's really just walking into open space.
01:26So my priority was making sure that it still flowed, but also giving each area its designated space and time.
01:32It was really important for me to build out my space and make it feel really open, so I layered
01:38the entryway with the same cheetah print carpets.
01:41I got them matching so they would almost create little hallways for the house because it is just a very
01:46open floor plan.
01:47I absolutely love this shelf that I found. I love laying it with fun, colorful pieces.
01:51You can see a few different Marilyn Monroe pictures on there.
01:54I found this really fun, funky vase at a flea market, which I absolutely love.
01:59The bench holds all of my workout shoes, so it's really convenient for storage.
02:03And then I have this amazing full-length mirror, which I am using as I'm, like, rushing out the door
02:07to go check my outfits.
02:13This area was kind of tricky when I first moved in because there were so many moving pieces and different
02:18pieces I wanted to include.
02:19So making the dining area more of a nook instead of just having a table in the middle really gave
02:25this apartment the opportunity to be open and flowy.
02:28I actually put together two regular benches, sized them up in the corner, and that's kind of how I created
02:34this little nook area.
02:35And I also just recently got these, like, wicker black chairs, which I'm absolutely obsessed with.
02:40And it's just a really comfortable place to eat, and I wanted to make sure that when other people come
02:44over, they're also comfortable.
02:48So this is kind of the health and wellness area.
02:50I have some of my workout and yoga stuff in the corner, and I have my smoothie bar over here
02:55that has all my teas, my vitamins.
02:58Protein.
02:59I have my Vitamix on there as well.
03:00I have a smoothie every day, drink tea every night, so I'm constantly using this.
03:05So this is a West Elm piece that I actually got from OfferUp.
03:09I think originally it's listed around $1,100, $1,200, and I got it for $350.
03:14It was a little used, but I honestly just put a little work into it and changed the knobs out
03:18to match the gold aesthetic,
03:20and it's definitely one of my favorite finds of the apartment.
03:22I really pride myself on bargain shopping.
03:25I found some of my most amazing favorite pieces of the house from OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist.
03:33I found this couch that I'm sitting on that's originally $2,000 for $500.
03:37So that's something that I recommend everyone doing is be patient and make sure that you're looking at secondhand sources
03:43for sure.
03:44So since I moved during the pandemic, it was really important for me to find an apartment that would allow
03:49me to have a space to have kind of a sectioned-off desk area where I can go, dial in,
03:54not get distracted by other things going on.
03:56I've worked at Adobe now for four years.
03:58I work with our e-commerce platform.
04:00The one thing I love about Adobe is they have a lot of creative products and solutions, so I've been
04:05able to use those to help me with my other passion, which is interior design.
04:09So I kind of made this basic plain wall into my desk area, put some fun prints up.
04:14I got this acrylic desk that was really important because it is in such like a pass-through area.
04:21I wanted to make sure that it didn't feel like a bulky piece of furniture hanging outside the wall.
04:26So I was really stoked with how this turned out.
04:28So when I first viewed this apartment, I saw a huge black bulky light fixture.
04:33So that was one of the first things I changed even before I moved in.
04:37I upgraded it to a mid-century light fixture, which really just tied together the entire area.
04:43So I'm a huge plant person.
04:45My best friend and I counted one night.
04:47I think I have close to 52, and they really thrive in the light in this apartment.
04:55So this is my cute little kitchen.
04:57It's a little hidden.
04:58It's small, but it has everything I need.
05:00My favorite thing that I did in this kitchen was I really wanted to keep the gold accents and pull
05:04those in.
05:05These were the original handles that were all over the kitchen, in the bathroom,
05:09and I replaced them myself with these beautiful gold handles.
05:12I think I got 12 of them for around $30 on Amazon, but it definitely took me a few hours
05:18to do.
05:18I had to remove all of them and then re-screw all of these back in.
05:21And at the time, I also did not have a drill, so I was doing it by hand.
05:25But needless to say, it was definitely worth the work.
05:28So one of my biggest purchases for my apartment was some kitchen appliances.
05:33I actually got the Smeg Kettle and the Smeg Toaster, and they are by far some of my favorite appliances.
05:39They just make the kitchen look beautiful, and it just matches the 70s vibe, so I had to do it.
05:45My favorite part about my apartment is definitely the balcony.
05:48The open windows really give the opportunity to bring a lot of light and flow into the apartment,
05:54and then the outside is just super magical.
05:56I really wanted to spend a lot of time out here, so I put in a good amount of money
06:00and time into just planning out what I wanted to do out here.
06:03I made sure there was a comfy spot for me.
06:06Made sure Cash had a little area to go when he is left home alone.
06:09I wanted to make sure I had some cacti feel out here, and just make sure that this was an
06:14area that I could come out, relax, get some sun, do some work out here.
06:17Another project that I did by myself when I first moved in was making sure all of these magical lights
06:22got hung up.
06:23I did it by myself, and I almost fell over the balcony a few times, but it was very much
06:27worth it.
06:27Cash and I spent a lot of time out here at night, drinking tea, reading a book, and it's just
06:32a really special time for us.
06:34Living alone is really fun, but it also can be a little lonely at times, so getting a dog has
06:39helped out a lot.
06:40He is a mini sheepadoodle, half Old English sheepdog, half poodle.
06:43He is one and a half years old, and Cash and I go on a lot of adventures together and
06:48have created such a home together,
06:49and I wouldn't change it for the world.
06:51One of the most unique things about me is that I am a triplet, and out of the three, I
06:55would say even growing up,
06:57I was kind of the more out-there, funky one, so I can kind of confidently say that that's where
07:01my interior design comes from.
07:03In my next dream home, my top priorities are definitely a big backyard for Cash,
07:09definitely an open, airy kitchen, and just a bigger living space to have more people over.
07:16Another passion of mine outside of interior design is fitness,
07:19so I wanted to make sure that I had a space in my home that complemented my active lifestyle,
07:24so I'm able to open up my living room, and I do a lot of HIIT training and yoga in
07:28here.
07:28On a typical Sunday morning, you can find Cash and I just hanging out on the floor, doing yoga, records
07:33on, candle on,
07:35maybe drinking a smoothie, and I think that's my ultimate Sunday, just hanging out with my dog,
07:39exercising, and getting some bright light from outside.
07:42The most sentimental piece in my space is definitely my records.
07:46A lot of them are from my dad, and I grew up listening to Old Rock and driving in his
07:51Porsche with him,
07:52so just having those records and playing them on Sundays will always be a very special moment for me.
07:56So I got this hanging chair from OfferUp.
07:59Originally, it was $600 new off the website, and I got it just a little bit used for about $300.
08:05Originally, it was done by a handyman.
08:09He had a hard time finding the stud, and lucky for me, I grew up with a very hands-on
08:13father.
08:14That taught me a lot, so I actually was instructing him multiple times throughout the process.
08:18I tried covering up the missed stud drills, but the chair looks great,
08:22and I don't really think a lot of people are looking at the ceiling, so.
08:26So this little hallway leads into my bedroom.
08:30I wanted to make this really retro, really 70s.
08:33I have really fun prints, some pillows that match, some really fun pinks and yellows and reds in here.
08:39Again, wanted to add a lot of plants in here as well because it does get really good light.
08:44My bed is low-platform, so I wanted to make sure that I had the right size nightstands,
08:48do the mix-match thing.
08:50One is a side table, the other is kind of more of a standard nightstand.
08:53And then I have some funky mid-century light.
08:56The dresser is something I get questioned on all the time.
08:59Everyone thinks it's West Elm.
09:00I actually got it from Living Spaces for, obviously, a third of the price.
09:03I will have that for years.
09:04The quality of it is absolutely incredible.
09:08Originally, the shelf was from my last apartment, and when I moved in here,
09:11I did not know where I was going to put it.
09:12I kind of awkwardly just shoved it up there one day and was like,
09:16I think this is going to look good.
09:17Yeah, I love the way it turned out, and I think it's just a really unique,
09:20fun placement for a shelf.
09:22So, funny story about this bed, I actually found it on Wayfair.
09:25I think it was around $600.
09:27I fell in love with it.
09:28It was low-platform, white, gold accents on the bottom.
09:32A few weeks later, I look back on my order.
09:34The picture changed, and they were actually shipping me a bright orange bed.
09:38So, I called Wayfair immediately, and I said, why am I getting an orange bed?
09:42Well, it turns out that Wayfair mixed up some images on the back end,
09:46and they thought I ordered an orange bed.
09:47So, I actually ended up getting this bed,
09:49which is, they were listing for $1,300 for $500, $600.
09:54So, that was also a steal for this apartment.
09:59So, this is my bathroom.
10:01I think it's an amazing size for a one-bedroom.
10:03I did a few upgrades in the bathroom.
10:06I added the shower curtain with the rod that covers up these basic glass doors.
10:12Just really makes the bathroom a little bit more fun,
10:15flows in with the more funky theme of the rest of the apartment,
10:19and then I also switched out silver handles for the gold ones that also match the kitchen.
10:24Decorating this apartment has definitely been a creative outlet for me.
10:27I personally cannot draw or paint or anything like that,
10:30so my apartment really is my canvas.
10:32It's definitely my passion at heart.
10:34I love the design aspect.
10:35I love that you're able to kind of create whatever you're feeling inside,
10:39whatever you're into, and just kind of put it in your home.
10:41So, that's kind of been my goal for this apartment,
10:43and I hope to do that in my future apartments and homes as well.
