00:00Hi, I'm Veena Crownholm.
00:02Welcome to My Sweet Digs.
00:03Before you come in and grab a cup of tea
00:05and kick off your shoes, subscribe below.
00:08Come on in.
00:11I currently live in Los Angeles.
00:13We're originally from the Bay Area.
00:15And I am a former Miss California,
00:17first Indian to walk on the Miss America stage
00:20back in my day.
00:21I am now a mom of two, a lifestyle expert,
00:24and a content creator.
00:26We own this house.
00:27We got a great deal five years ago,
00:29but we always look for homes
00:31that need a little love brought back into it.
00:33So we've really built a lot of equity into this house.
00:35We've done built-in bookshelves.
00:37We've redone the whole kitchen
00:38so that it flows really, really well
00:40and it feels like the spaces work
00:42and they feel very modern.
00:45And we love it here.
00:46We absolutely love it here.
00:50All right.
00:51Today, because I have a newborn,
00:53we're taking Max with us on this home tour.
00:55One of the coolest parts about this house
00:57when we looked at it five years ago
00:58was all of this really cool woodwork.
01:00You'll see Tiffany glass.
01:02You'll see inspiration from churches
01:03that have come from around the world.
01:05The house was formerly owned by Vincent Ward.
01:07He was the director of What Dreams May Come
01:09and The Last Samurai.
01:11This is our fifth house that my husband and I
01:14have renovated together.
01:15And this has been our biggest project
01:16that we've done so far.
01:18But this house has so much cool charm.
01:22And we're going to go upstairs
01:24and I'll show you where we really live.
01:27What I really love is this custom spiral staircase.
01:30It really marries the top floor to the bottom floor
01:32in such a cool and unique way.
01:37I'm going to take you on a tour
01:38of my combined laundry room and kitchen.
01:43Now we're getting to the part where I really love this.
01:47When you're not using the washer and dryer,
01:49there's drawers that slide out
01:51and it's like they're not even there.
01:54And then I have all of my laundry supplies,
01:57air fresheners, sunscreens, it all pulls out.
02:00And it's just so neat and tidy and I love it.
02:06I love to cook and I love to entertain.
02:08And so the kitchen has been a huge part
02:10of what we've renovated about this space.
02:12We've opened up a wall.
02:13We have all new appliances that just work really, really well.
02:16Everything was thought of
02:17for like modern day living in the 2000s.
02:24I love anything that makes life easier.
02:26So what I love about this refrigerator
02:28is that you just put your foot right here
02:29and it opens hands-free.
02:34Now we're going to move on
02:35to the ultimate COVID purchase.
02:39This beauty right here has been on my wishlist for forever.
02:42It is the KitchenAid mixer,
02:44but I got it reversed because it's so much more budget friendly
02:47and it comes with a two year warranty.
02:49And this little baby over here
02:51has made hundreds of loaves of bread and I love her.
02:54She's like my new best friend.
02:55Let's go check out the living room.
03:01What I love is that this is more of like a great room space.
03:04And if there's one thing I've learned over the years,
03:06is one really awesome design tip.
03:09Bring one color from your last room into the next.
03:11So you can see a huge theme of blue coming in from the front door
03:14all the way through here into the kitchen.
03:19The one else I absolutely love
03:21is another one of my pandemic purchases,
03:23which is the iRobot Roomba.
03:25Not only is it really fun for Max to watch it go around the house,
03:28it's Wi-Fi enabled, it has an app to schedule cleanings,
03:33and it gets underneath all the spots
03:35where I can't get all the dog hair.
03:37Not to mention it's also round,
03:39so it's really safe around the baby.
03:41And he has a lot of fun watching it.
03:43Let's see him do it.
03:44You know, I've always been really big on being budget friendly,
03:48and it's actually what helps us continue to build equity as a family
03:51in everything that we do.
03:53And so I love eBay's like refurbished program for just that,
03:56which means I get really quality products, name band products,
03:59with a warranty for a fraction of the price.
04:01And so it just helps me keep in my budget that way.
04:09All right, Max, was that fun or was that fun?
04:13Now we're on to another cool part of our house.
04:15When we were designing this breakfast bar,
04:18we really wanted to bring in the elements of where we live.
04:21And so this wood is actually from the Hollywood Bowl.
04:25They're old seats, and it's awesome.
04:27And we just paired it with a great wrought iron bar stool.
04:32Let's go check out the bedrooms.
04:38All right, we're actually going to go check out Max's room right now.
04:42We actually made a built-in over here for the dresser,
04:45some shelf space, and space to put a changing pad.
04:49And I love keeping it a little bit more neutral,
04:51so this makes it feel light and bright in here.
04:53Let's go check out the master.
04:57So what I absolutely love in here is the stained glass closet doors.
05:01Now, they used to be wood colored, so we painted them white
05:03so that the room felt taller.
05:04Another huge design element that we have here is living plants.
05:08It just makes everything tie together from being outside, inside.
05:12There's great sunlight.
05:13And then we actually took out the door over here,
05:16and we added in a reclaimed sliding barnwood door,
05:19just, again, to maximize space into the bathroom.
05:26All right, the baby's asleep,
05:28so we're going to go check on my husband,
05:30who built this COVID man cave.
05:32So let's go.
05:43Hey, babe, what are you doing?
05:45Hey, what are you doing?
05:46Oh, I've got a sleeping baby.
05:48Oh, hey, little baby.
05:49Are you gaming?
05:50Working?
05:50Yeah, I'm just playing around, pretending to work.
05:53That sounds good.
05:54I'll let you be.
06:04During quarantine, we really realized
06:06that we needed a space outdoors that worked for our family.
06:09So we actually ripped out the grass,
06:11and we put in artificial turf,
06:12and then we bought an outdoor couch
06:14and really made a space outside that felt good.
06:17We spend so much time out here now,
06:18and it's just been such a beautiful space to be.
06:25We got a great deal on this home about five years ago,
06:27and in that time, we've renovated this entire space.
06:30We really love where we live.
06:32You know, we've had another child.
06:33We adopted a dog during COVID,
06:35and we really think this is quite possibly
06:37one of the very best places in Los Angeles
06:39to be when you're safer at home.
06:45Thanks for checking out My Sweet Digs today.
