00:00Good evening. We're live from Brooklyn, New York.
00:04We've arrived at winter, a time for strategic layering, traumatic outerwear,
00:09textures thick enough to double as insulation.
00:12And yes, there's even room for good old-fashioned holiday cheer.
00:17Tonight we investigate. Are Puffer Coats emotional bunkers?
00:20What actually qualifies as acceptable holiday attire?
00:24And has the red lip evolved or simply refused to leave?
00:27All of these questions and more on our seasonal style State of the Union.
00:35Okay, before we begin, please introduce yourself, what you do, and your sign.
00:40I'm Christine. I'm a fashion stylist, and my sign is Libra.
00:44Hi, Refinery29. I'm David Lopez, the beauty hair stylist and content creator,
00:48and my rising sign is Leo, but I'm an Aquarius girly at heart.
00:52I'm Katie Jane Hughes, celebrity and editorial makeup artist,
00:55and my sign is a Libra.
00:57Hi, my name is Naomi. I'm a nail artist. My sign is Leo.
01:02Yay! And I'm Brooke, the chief content officer at Refinery29,
01:05and I am a Leo as well.
01:09What have you seen on the runways that has really inspired you?
01:12People are dressing ornately again. So like you see on Diotima, it's like a lot of fringe and beading,
01:18and you see at Alaia, there's a lot of plissé and beautiful kind of like sculptural pieces.
01:24Really strong silhouettes.
01:26Yeah.
01:26I'm loving like exaggerated shoulders, playing with like proportion.
01:30And people are just having fun with their wardrobes again.
01:32And like taking inspiration from maybe what they've seen on the runway,
01:35and appropriating it to what's already in that closet.
01:37Shopping your closet is so underrated.
01:39You know, just like seeing what you have, seeing what a friend has,
01:43taking that, layering it up, and wearing it out for the night or whenever.
01:47Do you all dress for the weather or dress for the moment?
01:50I dress for the moment for sure.
01:51You dress for the weather?
01:52Yes.
01:52What about you?
01:53I feel like it's like in between.
01:55Yeah.
01:56I dress for the weather if it's hot because I hate sweating.
01:58Yeah.
01:59But in the winter, I don't mind being a little cold, so I'll dress for like the moment.
02:04Now you all are all New York City creatives.
02:07What are your go-to shoes?
02:09I like live in my row boots.
02:11I'm wearing them right now.
02:12I run around New York City and there's that much of a platform.
02:15So if I step in a puddle, I'm good.
02:17My foot isn't getting wet.
02:18Yes, those are very chic boots.
02:20A great investment piece.
02:21They're an investment piece, yes.
02:22It's just shameless to say I wear an Ugg.
02:24Chestnut brown?
02:25No, chocolate brown.
02:26Oh.
02:27Absolutely.
02:27I see the correction.
02:28Sorry.
02:32Who do you all think has the best winter style?
02:35Uh, Lenny Kravitz, obviously.
02:37The gigantic scarf, a vibe.
02:39I always think Mary-Kate and Ashley, their winter style is iconic.
02:43Nicole Kidman in that show where she always wore that coat.
02:46Wait, which one?
02:47It was like a meme because she wore this coat the whole time.
02:51What do you want to call more of into your life for 2026?
02:55I'm sure the Libras want balance.
02:57Creative expression, which goes into balance.
02:59I love what I do and what we do is creative.
03:02I want to find more ways to do it in a way that's purely for expression.
03:06Just as many things that you can do to practice your craft, the better.
03:10And then also being online and really showing off what it is that you can do.
03:13And Naomi, to sharing yourself online, didn't Sabrina Carpenter slide into your DMs?
03:18Yes.
03:19Yeah.
03:19And she wouldn't have been in your DMs had she not seen all of the great work that you posted.
03:24I think all of our clients find us on social media.
03:26Yeah.
03:26Social media is truly there.
03:28And it's a double-edged sword because I think now there's generation of hair, makeup, styling, nails that are going
03:32into the industry thinking that that will be the in.
03:35So they focus on that.
03:36But there is a very real life thing of learning your craft.
03:40Yeah, yeah.
03:40You have to practice.
03:45Okay, so we've asked these incredible group of artists here what is in and what is out for them in
03:492026.
03:51Christina, I'm going to start with you.
03:53Not going out.
03:54I'm not staying inside anymore.
03:55You can get very comfortable staying at home, being on your phone, but it's like nice to go out.
04:00Yeah.
04:00And be amongst the people.
04:01Absolutely.
04:02David, what about you?
04:03I think what is definitely out for me is not thinking before you speak.
04:07That goes for like social media as well as like a content creator.
04:10People just type things not knowing or thinking about who's on the other side of it.
04:14So just be more thoughtful about the words you put out into the world.
04:16Okay.
04:17What's in and out for you?
04:18My in is staying in and my out is going out.
04:21The two Libras on opposite ends of the spectrum.
04:24We love it.
04:25Naomi, what about you?
04:26Can I say about nail?
04:28Yes, please.
04:29We would love your expertise on nails.
04:30I think the end would be short nails.
04:32I've been loving short nails.
04:35Yes.
04:35You do have very chic short nails.
04:37Yeah.
04:37Let me hide my longer nails behind this cute card.
04:40Now I'm embarrassed.
04:42And that will conclude our seasonal style State of the Union.
04:45Thank you so much for watching.
04:46And if you love this video, make sure to subscribe to us on YouTube for more.
05:02And we want to see you next week!
05:02There we go!
05:03What about you?
05:03Both of them are okay.
05:03We will see you next week.
05:04What are you next week?
05:04Bye.
