00:00How can you not be romantic about allowing only one run in the last 29 innings?
00:05By scoring zero runs in the last 29 innings.
00:09That's how we are going to kind of gloss over.
00:11That's very something like North Korea would do.
00:14They would just say, they scored a goal in the 28th minute,
00:17and they never give the final score of the game when they lose 6-1.
00:21They gave them a run of the first,
00:23and that snapped their 20-straight scoreless inning streak,
00:28and they would center it out three times fast.
00:31Yeah, so now 29 innings, and they've allowed one run,
00:34but they are not 3-0 in those games.
00:37They're just 2-1 because they lose one zip.
00:39The Diamondbacks, four hits.
00:42In their last five games, they're 2-3.
00:46In those three losses, they have one extra base hit combined in those three games.
00:51It's a feast or famine, and mostly not feasting,
00:54mostly famineing for this Rangers offense.
00:58And we have a couple of concerns.
01:02First off,
01:05Hagrid to get picked off yesterday is just an inexcusable base running.
01:09You get thrown in there to pinch run for Berger with one out in the 8th inning.
01:14You know you're going to try to get the second base,
01:16and that pitcher doesn't even throw a pitch.
01:19He doesn't even throw a pitch.
01:21First play pickoff attempt, first got out.
01:26Maddening.
01:28Sam Haggerty is playing like a member of the Cowboys secondary last year.
01:33It's like, really?
01:35There's no one else?
01:36This is what you have to resort to?
01:38This is it?
01:41167 on the season?
01:43When negative 0.1 war?
01:45I just thought it would be worse.
01:47The OPS is 385.
01:50Oh, God.
01:51By the way, you mentioned the scoreless inning streak running out,
01:55but that made me do.
01:56I did want to go back and look.
01:57Now it's at the bullpen.
01:58The bullpen's on 15 straight innings without allowing to run.
02:00If you include that yesterday was a starter who gave up the run.
02:05You're wasting this.
02:07Yeah, they are.
02:07They are.
02:08They're 19-22.
02:10They're 9-10 at home.
02:12They're still within striking distance because of the American League
02:16and the American League West not being –
02:18this is not your grandpa's American League where you had just very,
02:24very good teams.
02:24You've got basically the Yankees and then the Rays who are a fun team,
02:29very fun.
02:30And that's really it, man.
02:31I kill for some of that.
02:32They're so boring.
02:34Last night, yeah, it was two and a half hours.
02:36He got by quick.
02:38The Rangers are boring.
02:40They just are.
02:41Worst scoring offense in the AL, third worst in Major League Baseball.
02:46If Chris Young – I'll say it so Bobby doesn't have to be the bad guy
02:50even though he's got a preseason victory.
02:51If Chris Young and the organization, if they're around this record,
02:58deadline time, and he doesn't have a legitimate bat,
03:02I don't think it's going to matter that Ray Davis handcuffs him.
03:09We're going to have to have some discussions about a new general manager
03:12if he doesn't add offense or add a bat because we're going on a year and a half
03:16of absolute waste of arms.
03:18Whether it's the starters last year, the starters, and the bullpen right now.
03:23Yes, I do like to add the caveat that I believe that he is being handcuffed
03:28by ownership so they don't want to pay the tax and the double penalty,
03:34whatever the reality is supposed to be this year.
03:36But at what point do we say – and maybe you say – then he shouldn't go
03:42or there should not be a change because the next person would be under the same restraints.
03:47Makes it tough to judge CY to me a little bit.
03:50It very much is tough to judge him.
03:54I agree with you.
03:55The way the American League is, the way it is this year, they have to add.
04:02They have to go – they have to add a bat.
04:05I don't say go all in, but go all in because you've got –
04:08Yeah.
04:08You have a 38-year-old super ace.
04:11You have Nathan Ivaldi who is – he's getting up there too.
04:15Yeah, I mean, scratched last night.
04:17Yep.
04:17You've got a really good starting rotation.
04:19Nobody would want to face those two guys at the top of rotation in any series.
04:24It's a very winnable American League.
04:27Like I said, you've got one team that seems to be head and shoulders
04:30of everybody else in the Yankees.
04:31And then you have the Rays whose offense is so fun.
04:34Guys, go – MLB Network, 6 o'clock tonight.
04:37Turn it on.
04:38They're going to do – they'll do a picture-in-picture of like four games.
04:41Watch the Rays' offense.
04:43It's so fun.
04:44It is base after base after base.
04:46They're taking extra bases.
04:48The speed they have on their offense is unbelievable.
04:52But you've got a chance.
04:54You've got to take advantage of it.
04:55They've hit eight home runs in their last 700 at-bats at home.
05:00Think about 700 at-bats.
05:01That's a leadoff hitter for a full season in Major League Baseball,
05:06getting 700 plate appearances, but probably a little more actually.
05:08This may stop you from being a true contender,
05:13but I'm starting to think you're going to have to trade DeGrom or Evaldi
05:18because of the salary equaling out.
05:21And I have to do some more math on this,
05:23but they make two of the top three salaries on your team.
05:27They're not going to go and add a big expensive bat that puts them over.
05:31They're not – I don't believe they're going to do it.
05:33I agree.
05:34Ray Davis is not going to green light that.
05:35I could be wrong.
05:37I hope I'm wrong because if you give up Jake or you give up Nate
05:41and you add the bat, you lose your superpower in the postseason.
05:45But Jake makes 37 and Nate makes 24.
05:50Unless Bobby gives me some pipeline with the update of the young talent
05:55that he's always keeping an eye on, the young talent.
05:57Right.
05:59You're going to have to trade one of those bigger salaries
06:01to equal it out for a big bat.
06:03Yeah, and look, you've got to also factor this in.
06:06There's a good chance – there's a chance there's not a season next year.
06:11So you have a 38-year-old DeGrom.
06:14Let's say you don't have a season next year.
06:15That means he doesn't pitch again until he's 40.
06:16And Nate, 36 to 38.
06:19Right?
06:19Yeah, I think that's a really good point.
06:21You've got to factor that in.
06:23The other thing is, you know, there are talks when Rosenthal and Verducci,
06:27they do their thing about, like, hey, which are the teams that are going to hold firm
06:33and say no salary cap?
06:34They always say the Rangers are one of those teams that are going to hold firm
06:37for no salary cap, even though the ownership doesn't seem to want to spend
06:41the way they need to.
06:43Hold firm for no cap?
06:45For no cap.
06:46So they will be joining the Dodgers and Yankees and those teams.
06:49Because the cap is a floor, too.
06:51They don't want to spend on that floor either.
06:52No, I think that's fair.
06:54I think that's part of it.
06:56The cap is the floor.
06:57They are – if they don't add – let me change my statement.
07:00See why?
07:02This is for you, baby.
07:04If they don't add a legitimate bat at the deadline and they're in this same
07:09type of situation, we need to – and this will probably get me in trouble
07:12in the commercial break after the show.
07:15We need to have some serious – and I know Ranger fans probably aren't capable
07:20of this type of noise.
07:21We need to have some Ray Davis type – some Ray Davis type – if they don't
07:28add a bat – if they don't add a bat, Chris should politely step down and say,
07:34you know what?
07:34I'm not going to do this anymore.
07:36There needs to be a lot – there needs to be some Maverick Niko noise towards
07:40Ray Davis.
07:41That's what I was looking for in terms of that statement.
07:43If they don't add a bat and it's because of money.
07:47I agree.
07:48If you look at their top 30 prospects, top 30 on MLB Pipeline, how many of them are
07:55offensive players that are – their scheduled ETA is later this year?
08:02Out of 30 prospects.
08:04None.
08:05One.
08:06They've got one who's got an opportunity to debut in 2026, and that would be their 13th
08:11ranked prospect, Cam Colley.
08:14That would be it.
08:15Wow.
08:16And you are officially worried?
08:18Yes, I am.
08:20Corey Seager.
08:21So I was like, all right, you know, I'm just going to go look at his bat speed because
08:25his numbers are so bad right now.
08:27He looks lost at the plate.
08:29He's swinging and missing at pitches that are kind of outer half of the plate and up.
08:34The amount of times I've seen him swing and miss at a ball on the outer half of the plate
08:38and then up, I feel like I've never seen him do that this much in any season.
08:44David Murphy last night was saying it feels like – it feels like from a distance he's
08:48trying to pull everything, and he's being pitched away.
08:52And you can throw in off speed and this and that, and then in that at bat, Murphy was
08:56talking about it.
08:56He grounded the second.
08:57And so I went to the Baseball Savant website and –
09:00I actually got on as the winning run yesterday for the young pop-out when he got hit.
09:05So the Baseball Savant website, which is a really good, really good website, on the
09:10first page of it is a player profile.
09:12And I see – before I get to the bat speed, I see a dark blue No. 5.
09:16Okay, so the way the website is is that, you know, it's basically a bunch of graphs,
09:21but they're like the linear graphs.
09:23So everything to the right in dark red is like you're in the 95th percentile, and everything
09:28to the left is dark blue, which means you're in the 5th or 10th or whatever percentile.
09:33And you don't want to be there.
09:34You want to be on the right.
09:35Except for whiff rate.
09:36You don't want to be high up on that.
09:38Except for whiff rate.
09:39Well, you know, if you go and you look at it, you know, I cannot look at this through
09:47the years, and this might be the worst stretch of his career by a wide margin.
09:57Because you did bring up, like, whiff rate, but barrel percentage, by the way, super high.
10:02He's super high for barrel percentage.
10:04You're getting unlucky.
10:05But he is whiffing at a crazy high rate.
10:08Is he not, Bobby?
10:09He's way up there.
10:11Pretty much the highest of his career.
10:14Which a whiff is just flat out swing and miss, which is over a third of the time.
10:19So if you go back and look at all the years of his career, he's never been below the 27th
10:28percentile, right, in whiff rate.
10:30This year he's 5th percentile.
10:335th percentile.
10:34He's hitting 189.
10:3745%, 26%, 41, 51, 26, 38, 50, 56, 27.
10:42And then this year, 5th percentile.
10:44So he's always kind of like, you know, he's still a power hitter guy, right?
10:49So he's still going to swing and miss quite a bit.
10:52Boy, they are unhappy on the Fantechs, and they're blowing up.
10:55About what?
10:56About just the Rangers.
10:57It's a bunch of frustration.
10:592023 was a fluke World Series.
11:01Fire CY.
11:03You might need to just replace CY.
11:05Somebody else brings up the point.
11:06Look at the Pirates.
11:07They make noise all the time.
11:08And what's happened there?
11:09Nothing the ownership does.
11:11Nothing.
11:11Why do you think they still suck?
11:13It's basically a lot of people on here.
11:15It's split.
11:16There's a lot of people saying this is Ray Davis needs to open up the pocketbook.
11:18And then there's other people saying there are other teams that have success with similar
11:21budgets.
11:21And why can't CY find the talent?
11:23Yeah.
11:23When it happens, like, one year, okay, you know, two years, I do have to look at specifics
11:32and not just blindly blame you.
11:34Like, what are you being asked to operate with?
11:36If you're going on, like, year three, I stop caring.
11:39I don't care.
11:40I don't care.
11:41Like, don't tell me about the pains.
11:43Get it done.
11:44Get it done.
11:45We can't be going this long with this offensive drought.
11:49And I'm sorry.
11:50You got to go.
11:52But I do believe, I do believe that, you know, there is a cap on this because Ray Davis doesn't
11:59want to get penalized.
12:01956 texted this in.
12:02I'm guilty of blaming the general manager also.
12:04But ultimately, if you look at the history of these hitters, he's banking on them doing
12:07what they've always done.
12:08And they're just now getting the job, or they're just not getting the job done.
12:11And that starts to see here.
12:12That's the thing, though.
12:13I think people saw 23 and people saw some of these things.
12:17And then they go, like, that's the history of what they've always done.
12:19It's like, no, that may have been their peak.
12:21I tried to say it.
12:22And again, FAF and Ranger fans lose their mind.
12:26It was a fluky title.
12:29Of course it was.
12:29It doesn't mean you take it down.
12:32No, it stays.
12:32But teams with all the metrics and the history of that season, like, that was a crazy.
12:39You went undefeated on the road in the playoffs.
12:42Yeah.
12:43Playoffs.
12:4311-0.
12:44Crazy.
12:4511-0.
12:45No one at one point in time, throughout three quarters of that season, thought that they
12:50were a championship-winning team.
12:52They caught lightning in a bottle, like, I believe, the Dallas Mavericks.
12:55Basketball 2011 caught lightning in a bottle.
12:5830.
12:59Almost 36% of his swings are whiffs.
13:02Seager.
13:04That's Gallo-like.
13:05It's a little under Gallo, but Gallo is about 40% of the time.
13:09Don't say that.
13:09It is not good.
13:11Whatever he is doing.
13:12And, again, you know, like, so bat speed on this website, they don't go back far enough.
13:18So I can't tell what his bat speed was his first couple of years in the league.
13:21It's not that different, though, than the last couple of seasons.
13:26It's not like he was at 76 miles an hour and now he's at 67 miles an hour like Marcus
13:30Simeon.
13:31Right?
13:31It's not that.
13:33Something is up.
13:35And I don't know what it is.
13:36Like, I don't know why.
13:37He doesn't know what it is.
13:38No, he doesn't know what it is either.
13:39So I'm a little concerned.
13:41Put me in the concern, Colin, about Corey Seager because he has offered nothing this year.
13:44Yeah, Gallo was 40% generally during his time in Texas, so he's a little under where Gallo was at.
13:49But I don't know why he doesn't know what it is.
