00:02a couple things here uh somebody asked what is the rule five draft and we it's one of
00:08baseball's interesting rules essentially they've set up a system that if you're a minor leaguer
00:13and let's say throughout the miguel cabrera era you were first baseman at triple a for the tigers
00:19and you were really really good but you weren't going to get called up because miggy was there
00:24and you couldn't play any other position or whatever they have something called the rule
00:28five draft for players that have been in the minors for a certain period of time without being
00:33on the 40 man rise without being on the 40 man roster which is how you get called up so
00:36you're
00:37not even like on deck to get called up that other teams can select you if they've got a spot
00:43they
00:44have this rule five draft they can select you if they've got a spot on their major league roster
00:49for you so you have to be on the 25 man roster so you have to basically take up a
00:56roster spot
00:57for an entire season so the tigers got who who did they do that they kill badu was a rule
01:06five guy
01:07who they took from minnesota and stayed with the tigers the entire season gauge workman qualified
01:15for the rule five draft back in 2024 i think it was 2024 yeah and the cubs took him in
01:24the rule five
01:25draft and you can be traded he got traded to the white socks in late april and he had some
01:33at bats
01:33with the white socks but then what happens if if they decide you know what it's not worth it we're
01:37not
01:37going to keep this guy with a roster spot all season long you get returned to the original club
01:42that you got selected from that's what happened with workman it was 2025 when he was that that
01:49season the 2025 season that he was with the 2024 uh draft yes and so he he started the 2025
01:55season
01:56because it happens like in december whatever whatever the date is of the rule five draft
02:01um victor reyes was a rule five guy for the tigers yeah that they had a few years it went
02:06back in
02:072018 uh yeah i mean i feel like this is this is something where caputo is listening right now
02:13yeah first of all he's going well you missed a couple details you know with all due respect you
02:18don't know what you're talking about okay you know guys protected okay tigers had to make their
02:25decision whether we're gonna they're gonna protect cage workman or tyron loronzo okay you know they
02:31gotta make their it's kind of easy so anyway uh that's what the rule five draft is and he was
02:38briefly with another organization now i don't know that he's going to be some solution here it's a cool
02:42story but and it's awesome that he hit a home run yesterday yeah but i mean in 35 games in
02:49toledo
02:49this year he was hitting 358 dude and it was his best 15 doubles four home runs 28 rbis during
02:57that
02:57time his ops was over a thousand did you do you have his his entire minor league career in front
03:02of you or just a season i have everything this is by far his best minor league season isn't it
03:06in 2024 he spent the whole year in erie double a ball 126 games he hit 280 with an 843
03:14ops 18 home
03:15runs and 89 runs driven in okay there's a reason why he was on the prospect list yeah usually in
03:20the
03:21teens yep in 2023 he spent time at uh uh at erie and also high a ball 100 games total
03:30hit 239 a 744
03:32ops yeah i mean it wasn't like spectacular um but this year he has been spectacular and deserved to
03:40call him and he got the call him good for him uh his his last year at arizona state it
03:46doesn't really
03:46matter it was only 17 games never mind i was before covid yeah um all right so the other thing
03:52is somebody else reached out yes kate is leading chump of the weekend as the voting stands right now
03:58we'll see what happens i'm not trying to influence the voting but do you think that's that's wild
04:05there's certainly room for criticism of the three turnovers let's be clear well eight but three
04:10three the the reason he's getting is a three turnovers late it was the the the triple double
04:17that helped them give him a chance to win the game do i think do i think it's appropriate to
04:21give him a chump vote no i champed him but i'm just saying well people go as the voting's going
04:27right
04:28now people are gonna go by what happened over the weekend you know and you've got a a massive
04:33pistons game game three on saturday you locally you the only other thing you have is the tigers
04:39yep and i mean certainly you're gonna jump somebody from friday or saturday if you wanted to
04:46um but people are going with kate because they were they were disgusted apparently with with those
04:51turnovers i wasn't happy with those turnovers i'm not either i was i was pissed because he's so much
04:56better than that and my my initial thought was let somebody else inbound the basketball particularly
05:01if he if he's that dead dog tired like you think he was and i'm not saying i do think
05:05i do think he
05:06was if he was that fatigued then he shouldn't put himself in that position um but i mean the this
05:11the one that struce just basically palmed out of the air that was that was horrendous that was
05:17frustrating uh all right so story ran on espn this morning five way too early 26 27 mlb free agency
05:25questions it's done by kylie mcdaniel on espn.com and uh there's some interesting stuff in here question
05:34one is what will scoobal's market look like following his third elbow procedure and i'll
05:39read in part what he wrote and the conclusion in this fascinates me the first two procedures have
05:45already come up when i asked executive scouts and agents to project scoobal's potential payday over
05:51the past six months but now there's another procedure on the 29 year old's resume okay so i'm
05:56gonna stop reading from what he wrote there he's asking what they think the contract's going to look
05:59like gms and executives their response was he's had two arm procedures already sure and now he says
06:07of course he's had a third so he writes the morning the latest surgery was announced i was texting those
06:13same people as part of an industry straw pool on what scoobal's contract would be seven of them got
06:19back to me before the news broke the average of those projections was a 7.7 year contract for 357
06:27million
06:28or just over 46 million per year now obviously you can't sign a 7.7 year contract that's the average
06:36so but 46 million seven or eight years is what they're projecting this at the story goes on to say
06:45he could land a lower price in free agency due to the renewed durability questions after surgery
06:52then he concludes thusly sources agreed though that the chances that scoobal will go back to the
07:00detroit tigers on a shorter term deal with opt-outs is much higher than it was before this injury
07:09okay this is interesting boris sign that kind of contract for alex bregman in boston
07:17shorter term contract but with opt-outs
07:21sources so multiple sources think the chances of him doing that in detroit are quote much higher
07:30because of this third arm event
07:35how do you feel about that short term what if he signed a three-year 150 million dollar contract
07:41with a player option to opt out after year one two four eight five three nine 97 97 gator i
07:47want your
07:48take on this and i want the people how would you feel about that is this a chance to take
07:55it is this
07:55injury somehow work in the tigers favor would you be in favor of this get to more your phone calls
08:02and feedback on this champ and jump votes get them in piston calls and feedback as well
08:06carson anderson i want your take on this possibility gator straight ahead here on 97 one
