Dehradun (Uttarakhand): At least three people were killed and more than 15 others injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus plunged into a deep ditch in the Vikasnagar area of Dehradun on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred near Sudoi Khad in the Kwanu area when the bus, travelling from Chaupal-Nerwa to Paonta Sahib, reportedly lost control while giving way to a truck. Officials said the road embankment collapsed, causing the bus to overturn several times before falling into the ditch. Over 30 passengers were on board at the time.

Local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. Police, district administration teams and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were later deployed to carry out relief operations.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident and said he was closely monitoring the situation. He directed officials to ensure immediate medical assistance and said critically injured passengers could be airlifted if required. Nearby hospitals have been placed on high alert.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, and authorities said further details are awaited.
