00:00So we talked about Brennan Sorsby, the Cincinnati quarterback,
00:04turned Texas Tech quarterback, turned maybe not Texas Tech quarterback,
00:08and kind of awaiting news on whether he's going to be able to get eligibility
00:11for 2026 or whether he's going to go into the NFL supplemental draft
00:19here at some point this summer.
00:20Again, I think they're usually like a month before training camp.
00:26I will tell you, I do not have a lot of recollection about Brennan Sorsby
00:31because I wasn't watching him this year as one of the top quarterbacks
00:35because there had just been so much rumor that he was just going to go
00:38for another year in college, right?
00:40And so he was a guy that I kind of paid attention to because he might come out
00:43this year, but I didn't really – honestly, who watches that much Cincinnati
00:47football anyways?
00:49I will tell you, Todd McShay, I don't think he's just got Nick Wilson,
00:54wetting his beak at this analysis.
00:57I think Todd Munkin might have met his match if this is what the Browns see,
01:01or rather if the Browns see what maybe Todd McShay sees
01:05in Brennan Sorsby's game.
01:07Here's how I would frame it, right?
01:09Sorsby to me is a young man and a quarterback who's attempting
01:14to major in pocket passing.
01:17But I would give him a C grade in that department, right?
01:20He's a C student in his major.
01:22But he's double minoring.
01:24He's double minoring in his, like, I don't know, Dean's List material
01:29in two minors, right?
01:32Yep.
01:32Those minors are scrambling to extend and the creativity part of it,
01:38and he's, like, an A student – brilliant in that minor.
01:42And his other minor is as a running threat.
01:45You try to play man-to-man against a son of a gun, good luck.
01:48C student in his major, but Dean's List in his two minors.
01:52But in that major, the pocket passing, my goodness, he has a lot of potential.
01:58So, and again, that's courtesy of the McShay Show.
02:02Everything that he said there, the pocket passing side of things,
02:06and again, C is a passing grade, that is something that teams look at and go,
02:10if you have the bulk tools and you just need refined, whether it's footwork,
02:14whether it's, like, little adjustments outside of that,
02:18like, they can take care of that for you.
02:20The whole time I was thinking, man, this sounds like Josh Allen coming out of
02:24Wyoming about eight years ago.
02:26Yeah.
02:27Like, big physical – Allen's a little taller, but Sorsby's a – he's not a chunk,
02:31but he is a big guy, and his ability to move with his arm power and with a head
02:38coach who did help Lamar Jackson be the best version of Lamar's – Lamar Jackson's
02:44best version of himself after a couple down years in Baltimore, I just can't help
02:49but thinking, man, this feels like the kind of quarterback Todd Munkin would love
02:53to get his hands on.
02:53Oh, definitely.
02:54Like, we always talked about with Munkin how much he loves a dynamic running
02:58quarterback.
02:58And, like, if Sorsby can offer that up – and, again, like, McShay says he's more
03:02physically gifted than Arch Manning.
03:04Like, there's a lot to like from that with Sorsby.
03:06So, yeah, you'd have to be – you'd have to be at least intrigued.
03:08Well, and I do think, like, the profile of incredibly athletic, incredible playmaker,
03:15so he has a good feel for that nuance of the game.
03:18He just needs to get more comfortable and kind of more consistent in the pocket.
03:22If you look at the guys who have gone either maybe under-drafted a little bit –
03:27so now you're – because you brought Josh Allen in the equation, are the Browns
03:31and Munkin going to be able to do the two years – you just – you have Josh Allen's
03:34first two-year numbers and then wait for the third-year explosion?
03:38Yeah.
03:39Because, I mean, okay, if we look at it, the first half of his rookie season was a
03:42bit of a wash.
03:44I would say unplayable, and I think that's fair.
03:47The second season, he was fine.
03:49He wasn't great, but he was playable.
03:52The third year is when he went off.
03:54That's effectively what you should expect out of any rookie quarterback, right?
03:58Even your number one pick.
04:00There's going to be a lot of bad his rookie year.
04:01I'm trying to remember the second year of Josh Allen because I don't –
04:06It was okay.
04:07I remember it being very similar to the first year.
04:09A little over 3,000 yards.
04:10He had 20 touchdowns, nine picks.
04:12Yeah, but he was horrendous in the playoffs, which is why everyone thinks he was awful until
04:16year three.
04:17He was unplayable in the playoff game his second year.
04:22But that second year during the regular season, he was actually – I would say fine.
04:27I don't want to blow it up, but he was fine.
04:30Yeah, I just – because he did get injured his first year.
04:33I remember that, too.
04:34That was the other part of that.
04:35He got injured in the beginning, and then he only ended up playing like 11 games, 10,
04:3711 games, whatever that is.
04:39Like, are the Browns going to be able to give Soresby – if the big idea is you're
04:43waiting for that year three pup, are you going to give him enough time to be able to get
04:46there?
04:47Because I've always wondered that with Josh.
04:48Because I don't know if – like, we did a redraft of what happened with Josh Allen
04:52in that whole situation.
04:53I don't know that Josh Allen becomes Josh Allen.
04:56So what I think helps is, one, the Browns have more talent in this scenario than they
05:03would have with Josh Allen in 2018.
05:04That was – I know they'd had a couple drafts with a lot of picks.
05:08They had – John Dorsey walked into a completely blank cupboard.
05:12Had a lot of picks, but a completely blank cupboard outside of Miles Garrett and Joel
05:16Batonio, right?
05:18So I think that helps.
05:19Here's the other thing.
05:20It's year one of Munkin.
05:22So unless Munkin is just some oh-my-God level coach bad, which I don't think he will be,
05:30that's at least two or three years of stability there.
05:32And that, I think, is key for a young quarterback is making sure you have the same head coach
05:35and offensive coordinator the whole time.
05:36It puts you on the Brook Park timeline, at least, where everyone's like, oh, Haslam just
05:40wants to be good when Brook Park is happening and opening.
05:42Well, it puts you on that timeline.
05:43But here's the thing.
05:44The Buffalo Bills won even when Josh Allen wasn't very good.
05:49They had a good defense.
05:51Which we have a good defense.
05:52Well, I think that's the other thing.
05:54It's interesting to me.
05:56I think it's fair to say I have my concerns about Sorsby.
06:01I do think he would have been better if he could have cooked for another year, right?
06:05I think that's logical.
06:07That's why he stayed in college.
06:08That and the $6 million Texas Tech was going to pay him.
06:11And I don't think the Browns are flawless by any means.
06:14But do I think what matters is that you get another quarterback, either this offseason
06:20or next year, to have another quarterback to be your long-term quarterback?
06:24Yeah.
06:25And Brendan Sorsby, the physical talent says this guy's worth at least a second-round pick
06:30in a supplemental draft.
06:31And there might be somebody willing to take him with a first round.
06:34Yeah.
06:34That's why I think the value is so interesting in all this.
06:36If you get a third or even a second round, I think it just changes the math and what
06:40Andrew Barry and them would feel comfortable doing.
06:42But it would completely change the idea that you get this one year, and then if you're not
06:47good enough, then we're going back into the draft next year.
