00:00We're one for two so far on the day, I guess.
00:02We're one for two.
00:03Our first guest, Ron McClain, just dropped the S-word into the conversation,
00:08and we had to, you know, remedy that.
00:11Ross was clean, clean trip.
00:13He was quoting Don Cherry, so I don't know.
00:17It's a little different, but he still swore.
00:19Zach caught it.
00:21Had he not, that's really an interesting thing going forward, had it gotten on.
00:26I know.
00:26Like, what happened?
00:28You know, we'd be called in.
00:30I'm over here as it happens.
00:32I'm thinking, it's Ron McClain.
00:33Let it go.
00:33It's fine.
00:34He can say anything he wants.
00:36But that's not how this works.
00:38But he wouldn't get fined.
00:39No, we would.
00:40We would get fined.
00:41The rules are for everyone, and really, they pertain to us directly,
00:45if we allowed that to be over the air on our show.
00:49So we had to do it.
00:50But my head, I'm like, we've got the Pope on.
00:52He swore it's fine.
00:54It's the Pope.
00:54The Pope can swear.
00:56Sal Capaccio, in your storied broadcasting career,
01:00any incidents in terms of swear words on the air with you?
01:03I don't think I know.
01:07Oh, yes.
01:07People calling.
01:08I remember that's happened a couple times.
01:10Like, what do I do with this?
01:11And then have to kind of hit a button.
01:13Like, there's right in front of where you sit, Mike.
01:15There's a button.
01:15Like, does it actually work?
01:16I don't know.
01:18That's happened.
01:19Does anything work?
01:21I'm kind of really, I'm very protective of that.
01:23Like, I want to make sure I don't say anything wrong.
01:26But I will say that on our podcast, it's always game day in Buffalo.
01:31It is not on the radio.
01:32It's on YouTube.
01:33And by the way, I heard Ron McClain on the show.
01:35I was watching you guys on the stream.
01:37Totally cool on the stream, by the way.
01:38You got no FCC rules, I think.
01:40Like, just go.
01:41Right?
01:41I think that's the case.
01:42I'm not sure.
01:43That works.
01:44I hope so.
01:44I think it went out on the stream.
01:46So, we'll find out.
01:47Yes, it did.
01:47It did.
01:48So, but in that note, so, we were telling a story last week when the Bills drafted IGB.
01:57In his bio, it said his favorite TV show is The Sopranos.
02:02So, we do a Zoom call with him.
02:04And I say to him, on the Zoom call, I say, hey, I'm a Sopranos fan too.
02:09Do you have a favorite episode?
02:11And he said, yes.
02:12He said, it's the one where Tony's friend, they kill him on the boat.
02:15I don't want to say the guy's name.
02:17And he was trying to be respectful.
02:18So, I retell that story.
02:20And it's always game day in Buffalo.
02:21And I say the name.
02:22And Bovey's like, oh, I don't know, man.
02:24You shouldn't have said that.
02:25I'm like, why?
02:26Like, that's his name.
02:27Right.
02:28Right?
02:28So, yeah.
02:29You know, I was kind of caught in between.
02:30I didn't really know what to do.
02:32I've never seen the show, but I think I know the name.
02:34So, let's move on.
02:37Sal, we've been apart here for a few days.
02:40Guys, what's the latest in your series on the website with position groups?
02:45So, I did wide receivers.
02:47I've done everything in the offense except for O-linemen now.
02:50Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and running backs included fullbacks, by the
02:54way.
02:54Quarterback, running back, fullback, wide receiver.
02:56And tight end was the latest overnight, last night, and two this morning.
03:00I hope you don't mind that the Sabres are eating into your airtimes.
03:04I feel like we would have talked to you 15 times about your wide receiver piece already
03:09in three days since it's been up, I think, if the Sabres weren't in the playoffs.
03:15I don't mind whatsoever.
03:16I think it's great.
03:17I'm like, yeah, that's all right.
03:18I mean, I totally understand, and I'm with you.
03:21I'm trying to get this done while I'm dialed into the Sabres.
03:24Right.
03:25Well, let's talk about the receiver piece here.
03:29We know what they've said about Coleman, and you and I, I feel like, we're very close
03:35on how we felt about Coleman going into the draft.
03:38But then, right before, right, is that when Brandon Bean sort of doubled down on Coleman?
03:44Like, they're backing him publicly much more than they had previously.
03:49Obviously, that could still be smoke for a summer trade or something, I suppose.
03:54But I guess I want to take them at their word for now.
03:58But they did draft Bell, and I think when we talked about this right after the draft,
04:04that guy's on the field in three receiver sets by Halloween, either through injury or
04:09something else.
04:10Like, I'm pretty excited about him.
04:12How do you feel like he fits into the whole picture there, Sal?
04:16I think he's in a group of three.
04:18So, the way that I've kind of looked at the big picture is, if you take a look, there
04:23are 10 wide receivers under contract.
04:24This does not count anyone that's been reported undrafted for agent signing.
04:27These are actual guys under contract right now.
04:3010 guys.
04:31And I really think there's a 5-5 group.
04:33And out of the first five, you have two at the top.
04:36DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir.
04:37Would any of us argue they're the top two guys?
04:39I don't think anybody would, right?
04:40They're the top two guys.
04:41Have to be.
04:42Then I think there's a line.
04:44And you have three guys.
04:45It's Kian, Coleman, Joshua Palmer, and Skylar Bell.
04:48And I really don't know what to do with all three of them yet.
04:50And this is going to sort itself out at training camp, which is, you could literally, like,
04:55put them on a randomizer and, you know, Mike, like, doing a fantasy football draft.
04:59You know, how do they turn out?
05:01Coleman, Palmer, Bell.
05:02Who's 3-4-5 in this pecking order?
05:05I wouldn't be surprised if any of them were 3 or 4 or 5.
05:09And they all kind of fit in this bucket of, well, if Coleman shows up on time, does everything
05:14he's supposed to do, all that kind of stuff that we think about.
05:17And then, you know, the skill set translates into some of the things we've seen.
05:20He clearly could be the number 3.
05:22I think he'll have every opportunity to be 3.
05:24Joshua Palmer, same boat, but because of injury.
05:27Like, his injuries were a big part of his story last year.
05:30I think the Bills believe that Josh Palmer can still be a really big part of this offense.
05:34And it just didn't come to fruition because of the injuries last year.
05:38And then you have Skylar Bell, who, as you said, Bulldog, would any of us be surprised
05:42if by Halloween or Thanksgiving, he is really, like, vaulting himself up the depth chart.
05:47But right now, probably, he's that fifth guy.
05:50He has to get an opportunity to do that.
05:52Then there's a line, and there's your Tyrell Shavers, who's injured.
05:56Nicole Hardman, Stephen Gossinell, Jalen Virgil, and Trent Shurfield, to me, who is the
06:00Tyrell Shavers insurance.
06:01Right.
06:02You know, we'll have time on this once the Sabres' run ends.
06:08Who knows?
06:08That could be a week.
06:09I mean, hopefully not.
06:10But whenever it happens.
06:11And I know how often we've talked about Coleman.
06:14But I've had the instinct lately, and maybe it's just being in these fantasy drafts where
06:19it's a combination of rookies and then veterans that teams have cut.
06:23And Keon Coleman is on the board in all of them.
06:27Like, just any time you want.
06:28He's almost free.
06:29Any time you want to pick up Keon Coleman.
06:30And it gave me the feeling that maybe we've gone a little bit too far with how, you know,
06:38unusable he is.
06:39You know, right?
06:39Like, there still is the draft investment.
06:41You've got Brady's comments.
06:43There is room for him or someone else, like you just ran down the list, to play and contribute.
06:50He's not going to catch 100 passes.
06:52But he might be somebody who could catch half that.
06:55And we're not talking about is this a completely lost asset.
06:58So that's been my feeling on him lately, is that I think Bell is a little bit redundant.
07:04The Bills did that again.
07:05They've done that with other picks.
07:07But it'll be something eventually.
07:10And I agree that they'll want to see Palmer.
07:13But, I mean, they really don't have any reason to think Palmer is that much more than what he's been
07:18almost every year of his career.
07:21So, I don't know.
07:22Like, I want to keep the light on for Coleman still.
07:24Bottom line.
07:25I totally get it.
07:26I just actually re-watched some of the Jacksonville playoff game last year.
07:32And he had a really nice, you know, play down the sidelines, set up a touchdown.
07:35And I thought that same thing where, look, I mean, there's times where he's shown up.
07:40The Houston game a couple years ago.
07:41There's been plays here or there.
07:42You've seen the talent.
07:43And, you know, he can be a part of this offense.
07:46I think they really want him to be a part of this offense.
07:48I think the organization, excuse me, has a vested interest in seeing that work out.
07:54There's no doubt.
07:55I look at that group, though, and think, you know, after that, it's probably, hey, what do you have?
08:02But I guess the best way to say it is, hey, they're better probably on paper.
08:06But there's still probably five guys and maybe room for another one to bring in if you want to bring
08:10in and bring in Cooks and bring them back, right?
08:12Like, there might be an opportunity.
08:14Because Tyrell Shavers, I don't know what that looks like for training camp and going into the season.
08:18I think Trent Shurfield takes that job if he doesn't.
08:21But I think there's just five guys in and five guys out right now.
08:24It's pretty clear.
08:25And as much as you might like those, there's injuries that happen.
08:28And you might have room here for even some more stuff.
08:30Yeah.
08:30I do want to, I said at the outset when I brought Coleman up, like, sort of take them at
08:34their word.
08:35But I also, I want to at least say that, you know, if this were happening somewhere else with a
08:41troubled player and there were, like, you know, maybe conflicting ideas about what his future is.
08:47Like, there definitely are people out there that probably think the Bills are done with the kid at this point,
08:53despite what they're saying.
08:54Because what they're saying, what did Bean say?
08:56Like, they called us around the draft.
08:57People were calling, but we shut it down.
09:00Like, to me, that could be a plea to, like, come with something bigger in the summer if you want
09:04Keyon Coleman.
09:05You know?
09:05Like, sometimes teams do do that.
09:08So, I want to leave that door cracked open.
09:11That they still could, you know, find some price that they find palatable and just say, you know what?
09:17We got enough other guys.
09:18Let's just move on.
09:19We get a, they can talk somebody into a fourth or something.
09:23Maybe the whole thing just goes away.
09:26Yeah.
09:26Look, anything is possible at this point, but I think we're, like, pretty past the point of where I really
09:35believe that they would make a move here.
09:37So, I'm going to take them at what they've been saying about him, that, you know, he's going to be
09:41on this team, they believe in him, everything that goes along with all the things that they've talked about.
09:48But, guys, we don't know until they get to the season and he does it still.
09:51Right.
09:52Because that happened last year and in week four, he got benched.
09:55He had a great summer last year.
09:57Like, it was, you know.
09:57Yeah.
09:58And maybe something to watch, too, is how much does the team promote him, you know, like with social media?
10:05Because last year, it was every day there was some highlight of Keon.
10:10I might be exaggerating a little, but it was frequent.
10:12They were highlighting him in the team, on the team Twitter account.
10:17And if that goes, if that's, if that's cooled down, then that might be a, I don't know, that could
10:22be a sign, I suppose.
10:23But if it's like it was last year, then that also could be a sign.
10:28He's still the number one, like, a lot of this that happens at this position hinges on him for me
10:34this year.
10:34Like, really, where is he?
10:35What does he do?
10:36He could be the guy that kind of makes your wide receiver group look and be a lot better than
10:42you might think.
10:42Or be the guy that we're looking at going, man, it just never worked out.
10:45And now you're looking at, can Skylar Bell be a really good rookie?
10:49And can Josh Palmer stay healthy?
10:51And then we're at the same point we've been at every trade deadline for the last few years.
10:55Do I need a guy?
10:56Another guy?
10:57Right.
10:58Do I have enough at receiver?
10:59Right.
10:59Yep.
11:00I think if your team is good, and it should be, the answer is necessarily yes.
11:05Every year you should be thinking that way.
11:07Like, let's add, you know.
11:09But we'll see.
11:10That's a ways off.
11:11Any quick point on the tight end group that you think is maybe interesting that might be surprising in any
11:17way or what?
11:18All right.
11:19Real quick on tight ends.
11:20I just think that I have not gone and thoroughly broke down every single team's roster at tight end.
11:24I believe the Bills have one of the best, most diverse tight end rooms in the league.
11:28I mean, they have a really good pass catcher in Dalton Kincaid, obviously.
11:32They have a really good blocker in Jackson Hawes.
11:34And then they have a mister kind of everything who can be a bit of both in Dawson Knox.
11:39I think it's the perfect skill set.
11:40And when you really dig into the Dalton Kincaid numbers, man, if this guy can, it's all about him staying
11:45healthy, guys.
11:46If he can stay healthy, I mean, last year he led all tight ends 2.76 yards per route run.
11:54He was second most in his position in the league with anybody like a minimum catches a 20 with 14
12:01.6 yards per catch.
12:02He was 10th with 47.6 yards per game in just the games he played.
12:06Like, these are really, really good numbers.
12:08He just needs to be on the field.
12:10Thank you, Sal.
12:11Enjoy game one, and we'll talk again whenever it's possible.
12:15All right.
12:16You got it.
12:16Thanks.
12:16That's all right.
