00:02Motorists in Perth are used to scrolling Fuel Watch to find the best price.
00:07Before today we had all retailers in the metropolitan area and about 80% of the state were covered by
00:13Fuel Watch.
00:14As of today that is 100%.
00:16More than 200 fuel retailers have been added to WA's price monitoring service that helps motorists shop around.
00:23Every retailer required to report their next day prices by 2pm with bigger fines for non-compliance.
00:30The fines used to be $1,000 per offence, they're now $4,000 per offence.
00:36Retailers also now required to report when they're out of fuel.
00:40The government confident the changes will make a difference.
00:43We know that transparency creates competition.
00:46So we know that it brings down fuel prices and that's why we've expanded it.
00:51And that our message to fuel retailers is do the right thing.
00:54Some drivers sceptical they will.
00:57I feel like they will find a way around it because big corporations always do.
01:02Others experiencing pain at the bouncer, unsure if it will make a difference.
01:07I've noticed with the prices obviously going up, I find it very hard to find somewhere where it's affordable for
01:13me.
01:14When it got up over $3 it was hurting, you know, when you fill your tank up it's well north
01:19of $200 for a tank.
01:21I use the fuel watch app when my tank's about empty so I can have a look at the cheapest
01:26fuel in town.
01:27The opposition supportive of the changes but critical they weren't made sooner.
01:32It is sad that it's had to take a crisis in the Middle East for the government to act and
01:38treat regional Western Australians with the level of fairness that they deserve.
01:41The government says since the war began, 78 infringements have been issued to retailers for breaches of fuel watch rules.
