With no certainty on when the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Singapore to shore up Australia’s supply of liquid fuel. Anthony Albanese says the country remains in a secure position but hundreds of service stations across the country are still running dry, and as motorists continue to struggle with petrol price pain, at least one Adelaide charity has taken a hit to volunteer numbers.

00:02Serving up lunch on a day of high demand.
00:06Dedicated volunteers are helping feed those doing it tough at the Hutt Street Centre.
00:11But high prices at the Bowser have led to a 15 to 20% drop in those donating their time.
00:17The ones that have pulled out have said to us very specifically it's because of the ongoing fuel crisis that
00:22they just can't afford the petrol to get here.
00:24It's cause for concern for the service, which has seen demand for support skyrocket since COVID.
00:30They want to see public transport made free for volunteers.
00:34With volunteers starting to drop off and more and more people seeking support, it's a really troubling time.
00:39The state government says catching public transport has always been cheaper than driving.
00:44Instead, it's turned its attention to truckies, loosening regulations to help the industry save fuel.
00:50The changes include allowing trucks to take heavier loads on more pre-approved routes and carry different types of livestock
00:58on the same vehicle.
00:59Which means products can get to market quicker, more efficiently, but more importantly cheaper.
01:05The Federal Energy Minister says nationally we have 39 days of petrol and 29 days of diesel in supply.
01:12And further deliveries have now been locked in well into May.
01:16Here in South Australia there are five servos without unleaded and seven without diesel.
01:21Prime Minister Anthony Albanese jets off to Singapore on Thursday to meet with his counterpart there,
01:27with fuel security top of the agenda.
01:29And we'll continue discussions on securing our trade in petrol, diesel and LNG.
01:35In the meantime, motorists will continue to feel the price pressure as the war in Iran goes on.
