A sensational robbery took place on Tuesday afternoon near Bheru Dungri in the Lalghati police station limits of Shajapur district, where two men disguised as sadhus looted a family travelling from Indore to Sarangpur for a wedding.

A viral video shows the accused blocking the road on NH-52 and snatching gold jewellery from women sitting inside the car. The incident triggered massive public anger online.

According to complainant Shahrukh, four men dressed as sadhus suddenly stood in front of the vehicle and, under the guise of offering blessings, forcibly took two gold rings and a gold chain with a pendant. They allegedly threatened the family with death when they resisted before fleeing towards Indore or Ujjain.

Following the viral video, police launched immediate action. By Tuesday evening, Ujjain police arrested seven members of a gang that routinely posed as sadhus to commit robberies across Ujjain, Dewas, and Shajapur districts.

Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma said the gang was also involved in multiple robberies in Delhi and Haryana in August 2025. Police recovered two gold rings and ₹5,000 in cash from the accused.
