00:00Now, I'll start with the A.
00:03This is from Pete Prisco at CBS Sports.
00:07Pete Prisco, I think, in my opinion, he's a notoriously tough grader.
00:13He is very tough.
00:15Very tough on his Jacksonville Jaguars.
00:17He's never happy with what they do.
00:21Here's what he writes.
00:25Best pick, according to him, second-round linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech
00:31will prove to be a big-time player on their defense.
00:34He has the ball instincts that you love for the position.
00:38Their worst pick, according to him, third-round tight end Will Kakalacki,
00:44who you mentioned in the last segment.
00:47Markalacko.
00:47That's his name.
00:49How do you pronounce it, Solana?
00:50Do you know it's Will Kasmarek?
00:53Kasmarek.
00:54Kasmarek.
00:55Yeah.
00:56Says he's a good blocker, not a great one, but is limited in terms of his receiving skills.
01:01And then Pete Prisco writes, John Eric Sullivan had a heck of a draft.
01:06I loved the pick of tackle guard Caden Proctor in the first round.
01:11They then loaded up on a bunch of good players with their remaining picks.
01:15Receiver Caleb Douglas will prove to be a steal.
01:19So he was the only person who I found an A, but it seems like he's grading it fairly,
01:26which is, hey, you got some good players.
01:29You didn't, you know, like to me in this draft, especially with that number of picks,
01:33it would be like, how many times did you strike out?
01:36And if you didn't strike out, you're starting to have a good draft.
01:41And then if you can find a few out of the 13 who are going to be starters or contributors
01:48year one, then you kind of had a knockout draft.
01:52That's what happens if, if Proctor, Chris Johnson, Rodriguez, Douglas, if these dudes start on this
02:00team, if they're NFL starters first year, it's special.
02:04And it's not hard for them to be that on this team, on this roster.
02:07And that's what it's about.
02:09He got, he is swinging an entire, an entire philosophy.
02:16That's hard to swing from track meet to bullies.
02:21And that's what they want to do is get bullies.
02:23He's trying to find bullies when we were a track meet team.
02:27I, I want to see it.
02:29And then, like you said, Hawk, the best evaluation I've heard was from you.
02:32And I don't give you credit that much.
02:34We won't know for a year, but he is swinging to bully people and not to outrun them.
02:41You get a vibe though, is your vibe telling you that this team is going to find success
02:49under John Eric Sullivan and Jeff Halfley, because we haven't seen success under any regime
02:55in 25 plus years, your vibe, your gut.
03:00Does it tell you the dolphins are going to finally find success under Sullivan and Halfley?
03:06It does.
03:08It does, it does, and it's not calculated.
03:12It's my mindset.
03:14You know, I like, I like bully ball.
03:17We're not beating people 45 to 42.
03:19This team, they're not building a 45, 42 team.
03:23They're building a 17, 13 team.
03:25They're building a physical, let's go choke people to death and win it late team.
03:30But I think, like, the Eagles, I keep bringing up the Eagles and the Lions, and I think that's
03:36where we're moving towards.
03:39We're not going out to score 50.
03:41We got to get to 20.
03:43And we have to make them ice up on the plane.
03:47Ice up, son.
03:48Like, that's the team.
03:49But that's, the philosophy that I love football in, Hawk, is that's what it is.
03:55It's that, it's that, let's go choke somebody to death long enough that they don't want to
04:00play anymore.
04:00Get us to 20.
04:01Ruben Bain will handle the rest.
04:04No, wait.
04:05Damn it.
04:05He can't do it.
04:07Proctor, Proctor's going to open the hole.
04:09The only thing with that, though, Crowder, like, I'm with you.
04:11I like the mentality.
04:13I like how he wants to build it from the inside out.
04:15We've said this a billion times.
04:16The only thing with that, though, is that you're not the more physical team when half
04:20your starters are rookies.
04:22Like, rookies don't step on the field and immediately are the more physical team.
04:26Like, that doesn't happen.
04:27It takes time for them to become physical beasts.
04:31There are some outliers, for sure.
04:33But I'm saying, like, if even four or five of these guys out of the 13 end up starting
04:38day one, and they're the guys you're going with as starters, you're not going to be the
04:42more physical team.
04:43It takes time for these guys to develop and for your philosophy to play out the way that
04:49they want it to play out.
04:50So they can't always find Channing Crowder's that just walk in, busting people's heads
04:54open.
04:56Man, you couldn't even get on the field.
04:58Junior, say I was telling you, stay here.
04:59I'm not necessarily certain it was you.
05:01I'm not necessarily certain it was you who was busting people's heads open.
05:05And I want to do that.
05:06I need to set this up for people.
05:09Please stop calling Rodriguez the next Zach Thomas because he's not black.
05:15ZT!
05:16Do not do that!
05:17Zach Thomas is a Hall of Famer.
05:19Y'all don't understand how good Zach was.
05:22No, Zach Thomas is the one before the draft who said Jacob Rodriguez was his favorite linebacker
05:29in the NFL draft.
05:30It's ZT that opened that up, baby.
05:33Not us.
05:33I, uh, I'm calling him the next Dave Wonstad.
05:40So, I mean it complimentary.
05:42You're thinking that Rodriguez, Solana, is about to be Zach Thomas game one.
05:49He's the Mexican Zach Thomas.
05:50He's the Mexican Zach Thomas.
05:53Bro.
05:53100%.
05:54100%.
05:54I think you're disrespecting my brother ZT with that.
05:57There's no chance he walks in and becomes Zach Thomas.
06:00ZT gave him the stamp of approval.
06:02Like, what else do we need?
06:03No.
06:04No.
06:04Zach, man.
06:05Zach might have smoked a cigar and drank some Cabernet.
06:09I stand in unison with Zach.
06:11If you're asking me which linebacker am I going to stand with in this argument on Rodriguez,
06:16I got to stand with linebacker Thomas, who's got the yellow jacket.
06:21Man, let me call Zach.
06:23I have Zach Thomas' number.
06:25One more grade.
06:26USA Today ranked the Miami Dolphins 13th best draft in the league and gave them a B overall.
06:34And what they write is, they wound up picking 13 players and perhaps as many as seven or
06:40eight of them could reasonably start in 2026.
06:45Testaments to both the quality of rookie GM John Eric Sullivan's choices, but also how thin
06:51this stripped down roster was entering the weekend.
06:53Sullivan's first three selections, Caden Proctor, Chris Johnson, Jacob Rodriguez, all have excellent
07:01college film, yet also had enough questions going into the pre-draft process that their
07:07stock didn't seem to catch up to their highlights until later.
07:11Third round wide receiver Chris Bell, who's recovering from a torn ACL suffered last November,
07:17has been compared to Brown and others from an ability standpoint.
07:21Fourth rounder Trey Moore is another one to watch.
07:25An extremely productive player at UTSA, but not so much at Texas, so it remains to be seen
07:30if he's a gem at the next level or overmatched.
07:33Versatile fourth round defensive back Kyle Lewis might also be a heist of a defensive weapon.
07:39Did the Finns get a talent comparable to Waddle, who was traded last month?
07:45Maybe not.
07:46Have they effectively found a replacement for Jordan Brooks from a former Red Raider like
07:52Rodriguez and a player Sullivan claimed he wanted to build around five minutes ago?
07:56Yep.
07:57But the mission here was quantity and finding players who can immediately provide direct
08:03or indirect support for first year QB Malik Willis, check and check.
08:13And if you do have seven or eight starters out of that 13, again, there's two things at play.
08:19Testament to who you selected, also anti-testament to what was here before.
08:24To what you had.
08:25And that's what you do.
08:27And honestly, to Solana's point, is Proctor a year one pro bowler?
08:33No.
08:34Is Proctor a year three pro bowler?
08:37Now you got something.
08:39Is Rodriguez a Zach Thomas in three years?
08:42Now you got something.
08:43Now you're building a team.
08:45You're building a roster and a cheap roster because if seven of these guys start out of 13, that is
08:53peanuts.
08:54They're all making league minimum.
08:56Yeah.
08:56So if these dudes start and produce, there is no money.
09:01We know we're $150 million in dead money this year because of Tua and the other guys.
09:07I give it an A-.
09:09I would say A- because there wasn't a lot of sexy picks, but there was a lot of guys
09:14that filled a lot of needs.
09:16But I'm telling you, Hawk, what you said, we don't know what this is going to be for another eight
09:21months, nine months.
09:24We'll know when we see the starting roster, though.
09:26For game one.
09:27We'll know if it's headed in the right direction.
