00:00Aranda, of course, great Miami Dolphins receiver and his son, Aranda Gadsden II, begins his
00:06second season with the Chargers, his first season under the new OC, Mike McDaniel, an
00:13old friend of ours.
00:15And Aranda is joining us now.
00:18Hello, OG.
00:20Yo, yo, yo, what's up?
00:22Yo, we are back for another season of football on the radio.
00:28Yo, let me, let me ask you this.
00:30We talked about this yesterday.
00:31I said it at the beginning of the show.
00:33I was telling Crowder and Solana and Jimmy on paper, this Dolphins wide receiver room
00:39is lean at best, right?
00:43Malik Washington.
00:44The receivers room is Malik Washington, Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, Kevin Coleman, Jr., Jalen
00:51Tolbert, Ryan Miller, AJ Henning.
00:53So, does that, you being a receiver, does that create a major problem right out of the
00:59box?
01:00Or does it just mean Devon Achan is going to end up catching a lot of balls?
01:05Or, like Crowder said, does it just create an opportunity for someone to jump out and
01:10say, hey, I'm a number one, I'm a star?
01:12Or, you know, you want to look at it positively and that would be, creates an opportunity for
01:21somebody to be a star.
01:25But, I think realistically, it's a problem.
01:30To be honest.
01:33You know, as optimistic as we want to be, I think, you know, somebody has to put fear
01:42in the defense's mind, heart, you know, feet, you know, something.
01:48And I just don't see it.
01:50Now, that doesn't mean we can't, you know, score points or win games.
01:54It just means that, you know, you don't want to be, you know, a cliche, but we have to be
02:01wide receiver by committee.
02:03And, listen, I've said this, you know, a bunch of times and, you know, not like I was your
02:09classic wide receiver one, but, you know, it has to be, it comes to some point in the game
02:15where you need a first down and you need to salt the game away.
02:21And everybody knows in the stadium where the ball's going, everybody watching TV know
02:28where the ball should go, and somebody has to come up with that play.
02:32And, you know, you want to say Malik Washington because he's been here, you want to say Jalen
02:39Talbert because he's probably played the most, right?
02:42But, you know, I don't know who that guy is and they'll have to figure that out.
02:47Oh, gee, Chris Bale, I don't know if you've seen him, bro.
02:50Oh, he looks the part.
02:51He's 6'2", maybe 6'3".
02:54You went out there?
02:57Yeah, yeah.
02:57No, I've seen him before.
03:00He looks good, doesn't he?
03:02No, you know, you got to, you know, open the book and look on the wide receiver.
03:08He's the guy.
03:09He's the guy.
03:09He's the guy for sure.
03:11But I want to ask you, like, a guy like that, like, you can have all the speed and the
03:15size and the hands.
03:15He can catch.
03:16He has soft hands, like, in the third preseason game.
03:18What are the growing pains of a young receiver in season, though?
03:21Because, like, at linebacker, okay, I can tackle.
03:23I can cover backs.
03:24Okay, let me motion this receiver down and run this bunch route and see if you can cover
03:28this receiver across the field.
03:29Like, they start messing with you because you're a young guy.
03:31As a receiver, what is Bale and Douglas and Coleman, them young receivers, going to see
03:36that they haven't seen before?
03:37They just got to learn how to play in this league.
03:40You know, it's going to be, every week is going to be a different type of cornerback.
03:46Like, I, you know, just tell you from my own experience, you know, like, when I first,
03:51it was O.J. and Tony Martin, and I think the best thing about it was those guys are advancing
03:59and can teach you what to do.
04:01Even the same thing for, you know, Ronda.
04:03I was kind of, you know, you know, everybody was excited last year that he was starting,
04:08but he had no vet to tell him what to do or what happens when this happens.
04:13I mean, he did, don't get me wrong, they were older players on the team, but, you know what
04:18I mean, when I, like I said, you got to block Max Crosby twice.
04:22What am I supposed to do with that?
04:24Like, you know what I'm saying?
04:25I don't know what to do with that.
04:26Like, tell me, like, you know what I'm saying?
04:28He doesn't like this or he doesn't like that.
04:30No, you go, you know, learn on the job.
04:33You go figure it out on your own, and I think week to week, you know, some weeks it'll be
04:39the one cornerback.
04:41Like, you know, if you go play the Broncos, you know Pat is going to stick whoever the
04:45one is or whoever you say the one is, you know, and he's going to take that away.
04:49Next week, it may not be a dominant cornerback.
04:52It'll be the scheme that takes you away, and you just don't know, you know, how to go hard,
04:57when to go hard, when to run the run.
04:58You know what I mean?
04:59They're going to go and sometimes, you know, burn out.
05:02But I'm, you know, physically, he has it.
05:06But, you know, just situationally, he hasn't been in the situation.
05:11And listen, no matter how much you've played and how much you've done, 17 games is a lot
05:17of games.
05:17That's a lot of games, bro.
05:19You know what I'm saying?
05:19To play at that level.
05:20And, you know, like I said, on this, you know, fourth quarter, you're down by four, and you
05:27need the first down.
05:29And, you know, you got to run that comeback or that dig route.
05:34And Malik Willis looking for you to get open, and you don't see the safety or the linebacker
05:39drop or those certain situations happen, you know, and it's your fault or you don't catch
05:44the ball.
05:45Then what?
05:46Then who are you supposed to talk to?
05:48Or who are you supposed to say, oh, you know, look, don't worry about it.
05:51We got to see him again or whatever the case may be.
05:52So, I think that's the biggest deal.
05:55The hardest thing, I think, at any position is being the one.
06:00You know what I mean?
06:01Because everybody's counting on you, you know, fantasy football guys.
06:06Everybody counting on you to do your job.
06:09And when you don't do it, you know, there's nothing to fall back on.
06:14So, I just think the situations that they have not been in will be the biggest thing.
06:21Like I say, you know, Malik Washington and Jalen Talbert should be trotted out there first.
06:27I mean, I get Bale and Douglas, you know, they look the part and they're big guys.
06:32But, I mean, I think, you know, at this part, at this point, even because of Malik Willis,
06:39this is going to be, you know, 17 games for him too.
06:42Not like he played 17 games.
06:45Not like he a vet at this.
06:46You know what I'm saying?
06:47You always, you know, you can come out there as a rookie, but then if you got a veteran quarterback,
06:51you know, you can say, yo, look, that's what you're supposed to do.
06:54Or, you know, Dan would tell me, you know, look, don't run that route.
06:58Run something else, man.
07:00Run this route I tell you to run.
07:01You know what I'm saying?
07:02Like, you know, I'm not sure Malik Willis is the guy to do that either.
07:06And so I think, you know, it's a compounded type situation because of, you know, it'll
07:12be Malik's Willis, you know, well, first time in Miami, I think, you know, anyway, starting
07:1817 games, just a daunting task.
07:21Well, I was going to ask you, OG, based on, you know, the reaction of the wide receiver
07:26group, how concerned are you that 17 games are going to come and go and nobody's going
07:32to really have any idea how good or not good Malik Willis is because the supporting cast
07:38just isn't there.
07:38And it's almost going to feel like another season where the quarterback situation just
07:43has no definitive answer.
07:46I mean, I'm not concerned at all.
07:48I'm pretty sure that's going to happen.
07:52I'm concerned about it.
07:54You know what I mean?
07:54I think, you know, it's just, you know, you know, I heard a coach say, you know, you
08:00know, you know, we're not rebuilding, you know, just like Hawks said, you know, nobody
08:05going in there, you know, don't worry about the wins and losses.
08:07Yeah, we are.
08:09I mean, you know what I mean?
08:11And unfortunately, it's that type of town.
08:14You know what I'm saying?
08:14We just saw the Knicks win after, you know, 53 years.
08:19Like, you know, it's got to be our time.
08:20But, you know, you look at the roster and you're like, hmm, probably not this year.
08:26You know what I'm saying?
08:28Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
08:30But the positive or the good, how I look at it is, look, in three, four years, a lot
08:38of young guys will get some money.
08:40I know that.
08:41They don't get some good new contracts.
08:43Like, you know, if Bell continues on the trajectory, you know, in four years, we got
08:48to keep him.
08:49You know what I mean?
08:50So he should be that guy.
08:52Then if Malik Willis plays his three years real good, will we give him a new contract?
08:57Or will we draft the quarterback next year?
08:59You know, you know, hey, look, next year, you know, we not too good.
09:05Could we get Jeremiah Smith?
09:06Like, you know what I mean?
09:07Those are the things I think you really look at as far as, you know, going to the Super
09:13Bowl.
09:14You know, is that a realistic situation?
09:16You know, I doubt it to be realistic.
09:19Well, wait, what's your best guess, though?
09:21If we're having this segment in 2029, September 1st, 2029, are we talking about how much money
09:29they have given to Malik Willis and Chris Bell because this is the year?
09:40Uh, I'm going to take one of the two.
09:41I'm not going to take both.
09:43All right.
09:43Which one?
09:44Chris Bell?
09:45Probably Chris Bell.
09:46Well, I mean, you know, the quarterback situation is just, you know, like I, you know, I hate
09:52to, you know, be honest, but, you know, a three-year contract for quarterback, you know,
09:58like, I mean, they gave Baker Mayfield a three-year contract, but he had a good supporting
10:02cast.
10:02He had some dudes.
10:03You know, it was Mike Evans at the time.
10:05Now he got the other boy from Ohio State, Abuka.
10:09You know, we just don't have that as of yet, and for me to sit here and think that we
10:16gave
10:16Malik Willis 60, and in three years we're going to give him, you know, 210, whatever
10:23the case may be, whatever the going rate would be in 29, I just don't, I don't see it.
10:29I just don't see it.
10:30But listen, if you give me 45 million to move from Green Bay to Miami, the way I sign up,
10:35we didn't do that.
10:37Do that.
10:39I'm all on board.
10:40I'm all on board for it.
10:42Let's do it.
10:44OG, think about this, because me and Solana, we came up with something.
10:48So we're not a gorilla.
10:49Our roster's not a gorilla just running out, beating up nobody.
10:52What if we can game one against the Raiders, like a sneak up on them?
10:56You know, they don't know the offense exactly.
10:58They don't know the defense exactly.
11:00Halfway's going to have to use his pieces.
11:02Now, slow it, you know, he's getting Malik Willis.
11:05He's never started, like you said.
11:07He said, we could sneak up on the Raiders.
11:09Not beat them up, sneak up on them.
11:13Yeah, that works.
11:14Listen, like I said, we've had this conversation.
11:18I took the Dolphins over four and a half.
11:21You know what I mean?
11:22I took them.
11:22I took them.
11:23You know, because I think you, you know, eventually somebody got to come from the West Coast to the East
11:28Coast.
11:29And, you know, somebody may go out in Miami or somebody, you know, things can happen.
11:35Like, I get it.
11:36I'm with you with the sneak up.
11:37They don't know what's happening.
11:39You know, we bring out the Wildcat or something.
11:41I don't know what could happen.
11:42You know, we don't know what could happen.
11:44If they break out the Wildcat week one, I am putting my head in the dirt like an ostrich.
11:50Like an ostrich.
11:52I mean, I don't know who, you know, lives with it.
11:55But at some point, bro, A-Chain is our guy.
12:00Right?
12:01I mean, he's the best.
12:03My point to Crowder and Solano was you can't sneak up on anyone.
12:07You just have to give the ball to Devon A-Chain.
12:13It would be like me saying, you know how I'm going to beat Suge Knight?
12:17I just got, you know, put into prison and Suge Knight, I'm hearing, is coming to get me.
12:22And I go, you know what I'm going to do?
12:24I'm going to sneak up on him.
12:26Well, I'm still me.
12:27It doesn't matter if I sneak up on Suge Knight.
12:31Like, what's it matter if the Dolphins sneak?
12:34They're sneaking up with Jalen Tolbert?
12:37No shade.
12:38But, like, I mean, it's not like sneaking up with Randy Moss.
12:42I'm not saying run up on Suge and say, boo.
12:44Sneak up with a plan.
12:46Sneak up with a shake.
12:49And a sock with 50 nipples in it.
12:52Like, you got to sneak up on something.
12:54You're not going.
12:54I hope you're not going to fight Suge Knight ass.
12:58I go mano a mano, man.
13:01Let's hand-in-hand combat, Suge.
13:03No, no, no, no, no.
13:06Little Jewish hawk from Palm Beach?
13:09No, that's not going to work, bro.
13:10That's not going to work.
13:11Put him up, Suge.
13:12Put him up.
13:13Put him up.
13:14Put him up.
13:16Yeah, you know, I do think there's something to the unpredictability of, I don't know what, you know, they got
13:23no tape to look at.
13:24What tape they're looking at?
13:25They just, you know what I mean?
13:27Like, you know, is Kirk Cousins going to throw full picks?
13:31Like, I haven't seen Kirk Cousins play since he was in Minnesota or something.
13:35Who's going to pick him off?
13:37He's like, somebody's stormed up.
13:40I don't know.
13:45Somebody's got to pick him off.
13:47Who's number 45 name?
13:48He had a good 25.
13:50Number 25.
13:51He had a good preseason.
13:53They might be picking my officer.
13:55I love the positivity.
13:57You're coming from everybody on this show, honestly.
13:59I can't find it, but I know you said you bet the over.
14:03How about week one?
14:05Dolphins are three and a half point underdogs in Vegas week one.
14:10Which side would you bet?
14:13But I take the dog.
14:14Don't you think that's good?
14:15Three and a half?
14:16Like three?
14:17Like a point of the Dolphins?
14:18You could, but I think you guys are sleeping.
14:21I would pick nine.
14:22I think you're – it should be nine.
14:24You're right.
14:25But I think you're sleeping on how devoid of talent this team is.
14:33I just do.
14:34No, no.
14:34Nobody's saying that.
14:36Listen, are we going to win, you know, 12 games?
14:40No.
14:41But I just think it's the NFL.
14:43Like, you know, listen, we all sat through that season
14:47when Camarillo caught the slant and ran all the way down the field
14:50and everybody jumped out, you know what I'm saying?
14:52Because we won one game.
14:54Like, we were like that.
14:55You know what I'm saying?
14:56We were there.
14:57Like, I just don't – you know, I just don't see it happening like that
15:03because we got to fool somebody.
15:06Like, game one would be our strongest case, you know, as of right now.
15:11I think the only guys getting fooled are you, Crowder, and Solana.
15:16I think some people have gotten fooled.
15:18Unfortunately, I think you're one of them.
15:21No, listen, I agree with you.
15:24Like, listen, we're not going to shock the world.
15:28But, I mean, you know, listen, I think the unpredictability
15:32and not knowing because everybody watches film.
15:35Like, you know, the O-line is our strongest point.
15:38So, if we can block them up, like, you act like the Raiders got some,
15:43you know what I'm saying, some storm warriors on defense over there
15:48beside Max Crosby.
15:49I was going to say, I think they do.
15:51It was Max Crosby.
15:52One, one, block them up.
15:54Like, we got a good line.
15:55Like, block them up.
15:56Like, you know what I'm saying?
15:58Like, if we could get – it's on the road, so that kind of sucks.
16:01I don't know.
16:02We could get the Bengals.
16:03We could get the Bengals second home game, right?
16:05We're good, man.
16:06And Jonas of Aynaya is going to lock up Max Crosby.
16:09Don't worry about it.
16:10Don't worry about it.
16:11Yeah, this is like Arande telling me in prison,
16:14there's only one guy you need to worry about, Suge Knight.
16:17But that's the only guy.
16:18I'm like, well, if that's the guy, I'm not getting anywhere.
16:23All right.
16:24Well, stay away from Suge Knight.
16:26We got to go, Arande.
16:27Love you.
16:28We'll talk to you during the football season.
16:30Where's Arande week one?
16:33A home against the Cardinals.
16:36Against the Cardinals.
16:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:40Yeah, you know what?
16:41I think I took the Chargers in one of my survivor pools.
16:47Survivor pools?
16:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:48That would be pretty –
16:49Seems like an easy week one.
16:51Are you going after that?
16:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:56Hey, look, I'm still trying to figure out whether we're going to be Mike Gusecki
17:01or John O. Smith.
17:02I don't know as of yet.
17:04So I'm trying to figure it out.
17:06You'll find out soon enough.
17:07All right.
17:08See you, Rondae.
17:10Praying for more John O. Smith.
17:11Yeah, us too.
17:13So is OG the junior.
17:15That's amazing.
