00:00Here in Philadelphia, let's go in muddy with treacherous conditions
00:05and the guy who's got the most momentum at the moment, Nate Trasher, what a start
00:10Yeah, coming off that win last week in Cleveland
00:15picking up where he left off, getting another fantastic start
00:18and oh, he messes up, comes up short on that double
00:23Nick Romano goes to the lead
00:24aboard the 141, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki
00:29Marcelisi there in the third position
00:30check out these riders right now
00:33this is about as good as the track is going to be for the rest of the night
00:40Nick Romano with the best view of anybody
00:43this is a guy who had to go through the last chance qualifier a week ago
00:47in Cleveland, now he leads this opening heat
00:49well, that's right, and he was in the last position of that last chance qualifier
00:55this is somewhat of a home race for Nick Romano
00:57see right there, hometown Queens, New York
01:00a lot of family and friends here
01:02and surely that is a big help
01:05looking really good right now
01:06again, this is the best track it's going to be all night long
01:10oh, whoa, hang on, that was a good job
01:15he saved that nicely
01:16and he's got, he did have one and a half seconds over Nate Thrasher
01:20but now that's disappeared
01:22really good job being done by Marcelisi and Phelps and Devin Simonson
01:26and then Landon Gordon, fresh from his podium a week ago
01:29runs in sixth, the championship leader Davies in seventh
01:32yeah, I was really looking forward to seeing how Landon Gordon would do
01:36after that fantastic finish last week
01:39only his second race as a professional
01:42and unfortunately with these conditions
01:45and it being wet like this
01:47we won't get a fair shake
01:48and just see if he was able to back it up
01:55let's hear some words from the man who leads this race
01:58he's Nick Romano
02:01I think it kind of stands out to everything
02:03I think Believe is you can just read it and see it
02:06so for me it was, it was huge
02:08because throughout my process of being injured
02:10and all that kind of stuff
02:12you just have to keep believing
02:13so, you know, I want people to know that
02:18well, I was wide towards there from Nick Romano
02:20and just thinking about the mud here
02:22it's the great equalizer
02:23and the reason it gets that moniker
02:25is look at the results throughout the top nine here
02:28there are a lot of names that we're not used to seeing near the front
02:30Marcelisi, as you guys mentioned
02:31Marcus Phelps, even Bucheri there in ninth
02:34that great equalizer means that
02:36it doesn't matter if you have factory equipment
02:38it doesn't matter if you are the most talented racer on the racetrack
02:41these conditions command a different skill set
02:44you're going much slower
02:45and you have to ride the racetrack in a different way
02:47I spoke about unliker results off the top of the show
02:50this is what I mean
02:52you get unliker results
02:53because they're a completely different ask
02:56from the racers than a normal supercross race
02:59JT, I was just talking to the teams
03:01less than two hours ago
03:02and it's absolutely pouring down outside
03:05to ask them
03:06what's your prep?
03:07what's your thought process going into this?
03:09and you just matched it perfectly
03:10but from the mechanical side of things, Ricky
03:12this is a big challenge too
03:14because they have to make these bikes last
03:16so they go from strategy
03:18to just thinking let's get through the night
03:20what are the biggest hazards here that they faced?
03:23well I think the biggest hazards right now
03:24is now keeping his vision clear
03:27and protecting his eyes
03:29you see he took his goggles off
03:31so that's going to be very difficult
03:33especially if he closes up on the rider in front of him
03:36which is Simonson
03:39so I mean keeping it up two wheels
03:41looking at big picture right here
03:43and I'm trying to think of the last time
03:44that I've seen Cole Davies race some mud
03:46so I don't know that
03:48he has a whole lot of supercross experience
03:52in these type of conditions
03:53so big challenge tonight
03:55a lot like what JT was telling us about
03:57there's a QR code about to pop up on your screen
03:59and you can scan it for your chance to win
04:02an Insta360 camera
04:04it's fast, it's easy
04:05scan it now, enter the win and good luck
04:07these are the conditions
04:09this is what's going to be difficult
04:10see how he's closed up to Simonson right here
04:15going to have to take an alternate line
04:17again, big picture in mind
04:19get to that main event
04:21give yourself an opportunity
04:22speaking of that big picture
04:24Cody Schock has just got himself
04:26on the right side of that red line
04:28the cutoff, the transfer
04:29for the main event
04:31you do not want to be doing any more racing
04:33than you have to tonight
04:34you don't want to go to that last chance qualifier
04:36well, you don't
04:37and it puts a lot more pressure
04:39not only on the rider
04:40but the mechanic as well
04:43if you have to go back
04:44you don't transfer straight from the heat
04:46he's got to go back
04:47clean that motorcycle
04:48make sure that it's good to go
04:50for just a short time
04:51to where you have to line up
04:52for that last chance qualifier
04:54and again
04:55the mud being an equalizer
04:57I mean, anything can happen
05:02so, less than a minute to go
05:04plus a lap
05:05in these really tricky conditions
05:07Nick Romano
05:08who by the way
05:08has never won
05:09a heat race
05:10has done an outstanding job
05:12to maintain
05:13his two plus second lead
05:14over last week's winner
05:16Nate Thrasher
05:18this is an incredible story
05:20I mean
05:20having the opportunity
05:22to be a fill-in
05:23at Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki team
05:26and I think he's done a fantastic job
05:29he didn't have a lot of time
05:30on the bike
05:31before the championship started
05:32so for JT
05:33to be able
05:34for this guy to ride
05:35as well as he is
05:36it's fantastic to see
05:40Ricky, I was just going to add
05:41to your point there
05:42I love what you were talking about
05:43the mechanics
05:44it's such a difficult ask
05:45on them
05:45and put so much pressure
05:46to go to the LCQ
05:47and remember
05:49different than the Triple Crown
05:50race last weekend
05:52in Cleveland
05:52they're only allowed
05:53to use one motorcycle
05:54so they had an issue
05:55in their heat race
05:56this goes for the 450 guys
05:57as well
05:57they're not able
05:58to use a second goal
05:59JT down goes
06:00Nate Thrasher
06:02he thought he had a run
06:03he felt he had a run
06:05on Nick Romano
06:06and down in the whoops
06:07he goes
06:08well you gotta
06:08respect the effort
06:10like this is so hard
06:11to pick this bike up
06:12you can see
06:13he's on the wrong side
06:14of it
06:15leverage point
06:16is much different
06:17right there
06:18now here's the key
06:18and this is the thing
06:19about mud races
06:20is keeping that bike going
06:22because when these things
06:23build up
06:23a lot of engine heat
06:25have a tendency
06:26to not want to fire back
06:28quite as quickly
06:29and that is another thing
06:31about the mud
06:32is staying upright
06:33and preserving
06:35that motorcycle
06:36when you fall down
06:37and you're not moving
06:38and going forward
06:39that builds more
06:40engine heat
06:40as well
06:42and that on this
06:43final lap
06:44has relieved
06:45what was a lot
06:45of pressure
06:46on Nick Romano
06:48how about Luca
06:49Marsalisi
06:50the 24 year old
06:51from Danbury
06:52Connecticut
06:52aboard
06:53his triumph
06:55of Harrisburg
06:56machine
06:57doing a terrific
06:58job
06:58Davies has worked
07:00his way a little
07:00forward
07:01several positions
07:02very effectively
07:05yeah going back
07:06to Nate Thrasher
07:07he was trying
07:07to blitz the whoops
07:08and started to lose
07:10control from the back end
07:12rear tire was probably
07:13spinning
07:14dropped the front
07:14and down he went
07:15now this base
07:16of this track
07:17is really really hard
07:20and traction
07:22is going to be
07:25interesting
07:26and it's going to be
07:27a struggle to find it
07:28how slick that is
07:29right there
07:29but the good thing
07:30about it being so hard
07:31is it won't get
07:33overly deep
07:33well look
07:34the conditions aren't
07:35ideal
07:35but he'll remember
07:36this for the rest
07:37of his life
07:38that's Nick Romano's
07:39first heat win
07:41well done
07:42and for Luca Marsalisi
07:43this is an awesome
07:45result as well
07:46second in the heat
07:47and going straight
07:49through
07:49to the 250 East
07:51Main
07:51yeah he's pumped
07:52alright
07:53that feels good
07:56showed some good
07:57speed earlier today
07:58and he's proud
08:00of that result
08:01and so he should be
08:02and Cole Davies
08:04slips and slides
08:05his way
08:07up to third
08:08well he'll probably
08:10have some relief
08:11right there
08:13knowing that he has
08:15an opportunity
08:15to lock that
08:16championship up
08:18let's remember
08:19Nick Romano's
08:20story
08:21stepped away
08:22from the sport
08:23for several years
08:24got the call
