Red Sox bright spot? Sox lose, but Payton Tolle was fantastic in his 2026 debut. Tolle went 6IP, 3H, 1ER, 11K in the outing. Should Tolle remain in rotation going forward? Do you believe Tolle should have been in the rotation to the start of season?

00:00Your Boston Red Sox lost to the Yankees yesterday 4-2.
00:03That ended in a sweep by the Yankees of the Red Sox.
00:07But Peyton Tolley was pretty good.
00:08Six innings, 11 Ks.
00:10He talked after the game about getting to face the Yankees.
00:13Here was Peyton Tolley.
00:14I mean, I think it's especially being a part of the Red Sox,
00:17you know, you want to beat the Yankees all the time.
00:20So, you know, having a night like this is fun,
00:23but as you can tell, the soccer room wants more than just a good pitching performance.
00:28So, you know, happy with having it.
00:31But at the end of the day, we want to win.
00:35So, yeah.
00:37Well, that's a bright light, I guess, right?
00:39A good outing.
00:40Could have used it sooner.
00:42Or you could have left him in there if you're the manager.
00:46But that, I won't blame Cora on that one.
00:49No, no, no, no.
00:50That was a call from Brez Bart upstairs down to the dugout.
00:54I got to, like, I got to shut my mouth now because Bulldog Wiggy.
00:59Like, I got to look out for him.
01:01I went to Georgia, too.
01:02Yeah.
01:04He says all this stuff about, like, I'm going to ask Cora this.
01:07I'm going to ask Cora that.
01:09Everybody in the Twitch chat is like, Wiggy's not going to say anything.
01:12And then Wiggy's like, so are you on the hot seat?
01:15I always ask the questions.
01:16I just do it in a way that is, you know, is a little bit more of,
01:20I learned from Howard Stern, make it personable.
01:24You add yourself in there, and boom, people will talk to you.
01:27Well, if Alex Cora and Craig Breslow are safe throughout the season,
01:32is there somebody who is sacrificial lamb?
01:38Is, like, are you, would you fire the hitting coach?
01:42Would you?
01:44Oh, maybe the pitching coach, Andrew Bailey.
01:46Maybe Andrew Bailey goes.
01:47Yeah, he could be on the hot seat.
01:48I know Manny Ramirez is looking for a gig as a hitting coach.
01:51I would hire Manny in a minute.
01:55Because of his work ethic.
01:56He's got very strong work ethic.
01:58Well, listen, I don't care what you say about Manny Ramirez as a player
02:02and some of the off-the-field stuff, but based off of just talking to people
02:06that played with Manny, they said he was the best when it came to studying pitches,
02:13working on his hitting.
02:14Like, why would you not want to hire that guy?
02:17It might be some other stuff you have to deal with, but, hey,
02:19you got a great hitting coach.
02:21I don't really know who he's been, like, since he's been a player.
02:25You know, like.
02:25He's been quiet.
02:26Yeah, exactly.
02:27Like, I don't really have an idea of what he would be like in that role
02:31because I don't know who he is outside of being a player.
02:33He played overseas.
02:33You know what he did?
02:34He helped his kid out a ton.
02:37He's always teaching his kid, and I guess his kid is a pretty good prospect,
02:40pretty good hitter down for the Red Sox in their farm system.
02:44Well, Alex Gora said yesterday it's early on this show,
02:47and can't really judge his team until, what, 45 games in?
02:51Is that what he said?
02:51Yeah, I think he said 50 or something along those lines.
02:54So I guess we got time.
02:55Yeah.
02:56That was just such an awful week.
02:58You didn't even show up.
02:59You got swept.
03:00You didn't even show up.
03:02You finally get a lead yesterday.
03:04You get 11 strikeouts.
03:05You pull totally too soon.
03:07You gag it away, and then nothing.
03:10Awful.
03:10This is Jay from Southie.
03:13What's up, Jay?
03:15Hey, guys.
03:18Wiggy, this is for you.
03:20When Chris Curtis brought up that we needed hitters during the Yankee series,
03:26we failed to hit, you felt like them getting pitchers was going to be enough.
03:32And Chris Curtis said, if you look at those games,
03:35the only thing you can take away is that we did not hit the ball, right?
03:41So whatever all-city catcher takes you have regarding the Red Sox,
03:46they're now null.
03:47Jay, did you watch the games?
03:48Did you watch the games?
03:49My Southie brother.
03:50Jay, did you watch the games?
03:51The reason why you lost?
03:53I watched the games.
03:54Okay, so the reason why you lost in that final game
03:56is because Brian Baio went two innings.
03:59The other reason why you lost that series is because you lost the game.
04:03I think it might have been 3-2 where you did a good job pitching,
04:06but your third base coach held a guy up at third base
04:10rather than send them home.
04:12So it wasn't necessarily about your hitting.
04:14It was about the fact that your pitching could not get the job done.
04:18You had to go to your bullpen in the final game of that wild card,
04:22I believe it was the final game, where Baio only went two innings.
04:25We're talking in this series they scored three runs.
04:27No, no, no, but he was talking about the playoffs from last year.
04:29He was?
04:30Yes, he was.
04:31All right, Jay, good call.
04:32Love you.
04:33This is Kevin from Quincy.
04:35Hey, Kevin.
04:36Hey, good morning, everyone.
04:37How's it going?
04:38Excellent.
04:39I think Curtis would agree with me.
04:42Like, we've got to stop saying, like, it's early.
04:44You know, there's a lot of games.
04:46Every game in baseball counts the same.
04:48The ones in April count exactly the same as the ones in September.
04:51And the reason why you ended up playing three in New York last year
04:55instead of three in Fenway is the difference of a game.
04:58So we have to stop saying that.
05:00Well, that's what Alex Cora says.
05:04He says, it's early, right?
05:07Everything has a right at the end of it.
05:08It's early, right?
05:09Right.
05:10When did they trade Devers?
05:11How many games into the season last year was that?
05:14It was May, right?
05:15Now I'm doing it.
05:16No, I think it was, I want to say it was pretty early, right?
05:22June 15th, 2025.
05:24June 15th.
05:25Shine, you didn't continue it.
05:27What?
05:27Continue what?
05:28The right.
05:29I think it was June 15th, right?
05:31Right.
05:31I think it was Father's Day, right?
05:33They had just swept the Yankees and they traded Devers, right?
05:36Am I right?
