One of the best games of the year?! Mickey Gasper delivers again! Returning from injury, Roman Anthony and Trevor Story are already coming up clutch. Curtis: "Fenway was rocking". Red Sox are rolling, but is there concern with Payton Tolle?
Transcript
00:00All the feels.
00:01Fenway was rocking.
00:02Great night.
00:03Lying there in bed.
00:04I won't tell you what I was or was not wearing.
00:07And I just willed that baseball team to win.
00:12And I'm already taking abuse based on who I talked about during thoughts on the doc this morning.
00:18I talked about my guy, Mickey Gasper.
00:21I get it.
00:22I get it.
00:23Trevor Story.
00:24We'll call Trevor Story the hero last night.
00:27But don't overlook Mickey Gasper, who not only went yard last night, but then dug two of them out at
00:36first base last night when it mattered most, Curtis.
00:40As an elite Dover-Sherborn little league first baseman, I love a good pick.
00:45Me.
00:46Yeah.
00:47He was awesome.
00:48Yeah.
00:49I mean, I told you how they felt about, well, Bresbaugh told us how they felt about Trevor Story.
00:53You know, and when he's right, what they believe he is.
00:57And so ultimately, you know, you're going to see him every day in the lineup.
01:01That's the expectations that, you know, I see for him.
01:03And, you know, kind of similar, the same with Roman Anthony as far as the DH position.
01:08Because your boy, Al Duran, in left field, you know, he's coming up big for you, especially when it's, you
01:14know, talking about home runs.
01:15Listen, Gasper and Duran, both homering last night.
01:20Peyton Toley struggled a little bit.
01:24But, I mean, he's just like me.
01:28We love a good hug.
01:29And I don't know if there's a more likable athlete right now in Boston than Peyton Toley.
01:34The standing O when they brought him back to the dugout.
01:37Like, I really think that he is.
01:39A regular Joe.
01:40He's a good dude.
01:41But Boston loves him.
01:42Yeah.
01:42It's because he's a regular Joe.
01:44And, like, I understand everybody loves Drake May.
01:46But it's a different type of love when it comes to Peyton Toley and Drake May, in my opinion.
01:50Like, Peyton Toley just seems like one of us, where Drake May seems like he's on another level.
01:54Yeah, no.
01:55That game had everything last night.
01:58And, you, somehow, Gamboa got you out of that inning there where he had him loaded up, Curtis.
02:08And it was everything last night.
02:10When that ball went sky high, the chopper, the final out of the ninth, I thought for sure the run
02:16from third was going to score and he was going to be safe at first.
02:18But what a pick.
02:19What a stretch.
02:19What a play.
02:20Like, it was a little thing.
02:21All the things they didn't do in New York, they did last night.
02:24And then you had, I mean, Roman Anthony.
02:27Yeah.
02:27Just electric.
02:28Oh.
02:28Totally electric.
02:30Textbook slide into home plate last night by Roman Anthony.
02:33And right off the bat, I mean, obviously, missed play in center field.
02:35But that's a triple.
02:36He's sprinting at a first base.
02:37I mean, Wilson Contreras could learn a couple of things.
02:39I will tell you this.
02:41If you happen to be up early and not only watching the show on Twitch or on YouTube, but participating
02:47in the Twitch chat, it will be very difficult to rain on my parade today.
02:52Because this show has officially launched on Sirius XM.
02:56So, I'm looking at Kevin off-road, 4x4, who says, Greg says, what a baseball game last night.
03:04Like, he stayed up for the whole thing.
03:06I did.
03:07Yep.
03:07He was texting the group message.
03:08He was.
03:09Yeah, you're right about that.
03:10I got receipts.
03:12Definitely got receipts.
03:13Kevin off the road.
03:14I got receipts.
03:15I got receipts on that one last night.
03:16How do you guys feel, though?
03:17Because it was a little bit yesterday when we talked about the Red Sox.
03:21It was a little bit like the sky is falling.
03:23Now it's back up.
03:25I almost look at it like this, where I feel like it's probably going to be very difficult to, you
03:31know, pass the Yankees or win the division.
03:33And isn't it now really like, all right, get us to the end of the season, and then they're going
03:37to be judged on what they do in the postseason.
03:39Yeah.
03:40I mean, theoretically, mathematically, you can catch the Yankees.
03:44You got the playoffs, game one of the playoffs, four would be four weeks exactly from today.
03:53So you got to catch, you got to make up five on the Yankees.
03:56Curtis will tell you that's very difficult to do.
03:59Very difficult.
04:00Right.
04:00And very difficult to do.
04:01However, I feel good about the baseball team.
04:04I do.
04:04And the postseason going to New York and playing in the.
04:06I mean, yeah.
04:07Okay.
04:08Let's see what happens there.
04:09I mean, I still, I brought it up yesterday.
04:11Uh, I still am a little bit concerned about the pitching in general.
04:16Um, Peyton Tolley's at Lou was talking about it during the game last night.
04:21He's at 146 innings combined this season.
04:25He was 108 or 109 or whatever it was combined last season.
04:29So I don't know what the deal is with Sonny Gray.
04:32We'll get an update from Sonny Gray himself during, they said it coming up at seven 15.
04:36But I mean, in general, I, yeah, I feel good about the baseball team.
04:40And I know people were coming at Greg for bringing up Mickey Casper again, Gasper again.
04:43I brought it up yesterday.
04:45Curtis, you're the baseball guy.
04:46Once Wilson Contreras comes back off IL, is there a way to keep Mickey?
04:50Uh, yes.
04:51Cause in September, the rosters expand a bit.
04:53So I think he'll be here and I Wilson Contreras, I think he'll be out 10 days of the minimum.
04:58So yeah, I think Mickey will be here for the duration, whether he's on the playoff roster
05:02or not remains to be seen, but I think you'll see a lot of Mickey guests.
05:05Yeah.
05:05I mean, you could send, I would have no issue whatsoever with sending Connor Wong down.
05:11Like I, I, he, he does nothing for me.
05:15Right.
05:15But I, I mean, he's like the catching position and Curtis, you know, the other baseball guy,
05:19it's very difficult.
05:21Yeah.
05:21It's very difficult to just have one catcher.
05:24Listen, I, the way I look at it is Monasterio was just able to pitch for you, throw him,
05:29uh, throw, tell him to throw the gear on and get behind the plate.
05:32Like, I don't, do you think that the Red Sox won last night because of Will Fleming?
05:38Like he lit a match.
05:39Oh man.
05:40By the way, that first of all, people speculating that Will Fleming was held off the broadcast
05:47last night are a bunch of curtspiracy is, uh, there's, there's nothing to that.
05:54And the fact that he felt the need to apologize to Yankees fans is something we should discuss
05:59this morning.
06:00I have never felt more sad for a region.
06:03Josh Hart of the Knicks tweeting about Will Fleming.
06:08I know.
06:08I know.
06:09You absolute loser.
06:11Like if you missed it, Will said during the broadcast the other night, somewhat facetiously
06:17that the Red Sox ought to throw at the Yankees and then maybe somebody ought to start a fight
06:24and the Yankees fans lost it because they said it on the, on the broadcast, like get, get
06:31out of here.
06:31I thought Yankees fans were supposed to be tough guys.
06:34You know what I mean?
06:34It's like, well, they're tough if they're throwing batteries at players, but they're not
06:38tough if somebody, if they hear words that they don't like.
06:41You can't say that.
06:42That's promoting violence.
06:44What are we doing here?
06:45I thought you were New Yorkers.
06:46Didn't the Giants have like a kicker that was credibly accused of domestic abuse and they
06:51like kept them on the team?
06:52Like Yankees and Giants fans were the same group, generally speaking.
06:56Can we worry about actual things?
06:57Will Fleming was commentating on a baseball game.
07:01For as long as time, if you do something dirty on the base paths, the pitcher will throw high
07:07and tight on you.
07:08Yes.
07:08If you do something that is beneath what people expect is the standard of the game, odds are
07:13you're going to get one at you.
07:15Whether you, whether it was Manny watching a home run or standing and pimping one out,
07:20there are people that get thrown at.
07:22It's been going on for the entirety of my life, watching baseball to act like he wanted someone
07:28to get hurt, to act like he was instigating violence is to miss the entire point.
07:34Yeah, but you know we're soft in America today.
07:36Anytime you bring up violence or instigating, promote it, whether it's in a joking way, people
07:42are all, they're always going to get their panties in a bunch.
