Transcript
00:00morning judd morning how are you guys well i was going to ask do you consider yourself to be an
00:05alpha male or a beta male judd i don't know i really don't think about it in those terms
00:13well you should just so you know where are you where did everybody else land on this oh wiggy's
00:19an alpha i'm an alpha dog he is an alpha in his mind in my mind in my world i'm
00:23an alpha but we're
00:24all from different worlds judge so i don't know your world well judd's world currently is on the
00:29road with the boston bruins and tuesday night we were talking about this on the show on uh i guess
00:36yesterday what's today thursday um you end up with really the the it's early it's an early measuring
00:42stick game but the uh the two best teams currently in the nhl played each other tuesday night
00:48no that was certainly a good tilt and uh you know the bruins had some opportunities to take a point
00:54or maybe two out of that one but i think that they got an early good look at what it's
00:58going to take
00:59uh later in the season to beat some of the better teams in the league and if you're fortunate enough
01:04to get into the playoffs in order to advance i mean carolina is still a team um listen they play
01:09the same way uh and they have here for a number of years but i think it was a good
01:14experience for
01:15the bruins to understand how dialed in the puck management has to be how you have to deal with
01:20teams like that who can be who can bring that type of speed and pressure um and if they were
01:27able
01:27to manage that i think they were able to come out of that with points you know if you look
01:30across
01:31that game uh they get the power play go early they're playing a decent first period but carolina
01:37is able to cash in on a late first period goal okay that changes the game and then they started
01:42to tilt the ice uh they dominated the second period but jeremy swanman was outstanding they carried
01:48over a two-man advantage that the bruins were able to kill off you were in a position to get
01:53some
01:53points but unable to do so so let's see what they learned from that here tonight in st louis
01:58judd tonight it is monty and the blues how much of a reunion how much does it matter a reunion
02:04like
02:04that to the guys in the room and to monty or is that just something that you know fans can
02:09talk
02:09about media can talk about the guys on the ice don't care yeah courtney i think that we're a little
02:14bit past that because the bruins have had a chance to see monty since he moved on uh to st
02:19louis
02:19this blues team is off to uh they're off to a mediocre start but it's not unexpected they've
02:25had a lot of changeover in the roster they brought in a lot of young guys um and you know
02:30monty's
02:31trying to get this team on the right track they've been shut out in each of their last two games
02:35um both a little bit different carolina i was able to shut them out on saturday night
02:40uh and then they got goalied by the montreal canadiens jacob fowler was outstanding i think they
02:45had 40 plus shots in that one so you know i think this is a team that could be a
02:50little bit dangerous
02:50here tonight but if the bruins are able to pick up a win tonight it's a great springboard into their
02:57next 12 games because 10 of the 12 will be on home ice if they're able to cash in there
03:02they're in a
03:03great spot for later in the year judd we always talk about expectations for a team before the season
03:09starts looking at this team do you believe they're ahead of schedule on where you thought they would be
03:14or are they right where you expected them to be wiggy probably right where i expected maybe a
03:20little bit better um just because of the amount of offensive output that they have gotten how good
03:25they have been five on five how many uh guys on this roster who have contributed especially some
03:32of the young guys um so you look at them right now they're nine three and one i i think
03:39before the
03:39season one of the things that we had uh talked about was where did you think this bruins team was
03:44going to be i thought they were going to be in the mix well right now they're at the top
03:47of the mix
03:48um and they've cashed in uh especially during some tough games you know you've already taken the swing
03:55through california you've played dallas uh now you've played in carolina you could potentially
04:01finish this month at 10 three and one that's a tremendous start judd big news off the ice yesterday
04:08charlie taking over for jeremy as the bruins governor after 51 years does that impact anything
04:14when it comes to the actual team anything day to day or is it just business as usual
04:20tough for me to answer that because i'm not in there on a regular basis to understand uh how that
04:25process
04:26works but i'm going to say no uh at this point i i think that the way that that uh
04:31charlie and the
04:32jacobs family have run the bruins listen they've spent to the cap they've invested in the building
04:37uh they've brought people into the business operation so i don't think much is going to
04:41change there other than it's time for charlie to take over as the governor do you think the cap
04:46overall has been good for major market teams as we now begin the long slog to a lockout in major
04:52league baseball are we talking about the national hockey league or are we talking about other sports
04:57i'm talking about well i'm just it's in the news now because baseball season just concluded and
05:02everybody believes there to be a lockout the jacobs family were the ones leading the
05:06charge for the hard cap in the nhl do you think it's been good for boston in the hockey i
05:12think
05:12i think well you know i think your initial question was has it been good for the big market teams
05:18in the national hockey league and i think it has been good for the big market teams in the sense
05:23especially now because look at the way that the cap is going to change here over the next few years
05:29now that everything has started to level out uh and you've gone through uh what the league
05:35experienced during covid um i i think that you've got teams that have the financial wherewithal which
05:42is what the bruins have uh in order to spend and i think that there are a lot of small
05:47market teams
05:48currently in this cap system in the national hockey league that might be concerned okay if the cap is
05:53going up to this level and it it's a high number are we going to be able to keep pace
05:59with some of the
06:00large market teams so i think it's been good um for the it's certainly been good for the teams you
06:07can see uh the way that the league has been able to make money and now you can see it
06:11for the players
06:12they're starting to cash in on the salary cap that's going up judd has scowl asked you to say
06:18anything negative about jalen brown on the broadcast tonight no but i gotta check my voicemail
06:27judd you look at swayman and it looks like he's playing with such unbelievable confidence you're
06:32around him all the time what are you getting from him like failing wise when you're seeing him before
06:38games just like are you seeing that same type of confidence that it looks like we're seeing from
06:43just watching him on tv without question wiggy i i think you're seeing a guy who is much more mature
06:50he's now a family man uh i think he's settled into his position uh here with the bruins being the
06:57number one guy he's got the big contract and that sort of manifested itself on the ice he was brilliant
07:04the other night in carolina um you know and i don't have that i'm not uh so analytically driven but
07:11just
07:11reading some of the stats that have started to come out here um you know i think that he has
07:16saved
07:16if not more goals above expectation than than most goalies it's right there so he's been exceptional
07:24for this team he's such a calming presence and remember he's still what 27 years old he's he's
07:30right in the middle of his prime he's going to continue to get better and what a benefit it is
07:35that the bruins have a goalie like that judd enjoy st louis and we will check in uh again with
07:41you
07:41next week all right sounds good take care
07:45take care
07:45I don't know.
