00:01An historic vote to be repeated on Saturday when First Nations South Australians elect their second Voice to Parliament.
00:10Going from what the nominations tell us for the SA Voice to Parliament is the Aboriginal community in South Australia
00:15are very excited.
00:16About 30,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to vote in this year's voice election.
00:23They'll be able to cast their ballots at the same time and place as the state election.
00:28I can't recall a similar instance in South Australia where another election has been held parallel and at the same
00:34time to the state election.
00:35Leading into an election where you've got the ability to nominate for your voice elected members in your region as
00:42well as the state election, I think will encourage massive support.
00:46But support isn't across the board. Off the back of the referendum result and a voter turnout rate of just
00:5310% at the state's first voice election,
00:56One Nation and the Liberal Party are promising to scrap the legislated body tasked with speaking to Parliament on issues
01:02affecting First Nations communities.
01:05South Australians voted 60% against having a voice to Parliament. Peter Malinowskis implemented it anyway.
01:10What we've seen is just thoughtful, considered offerings of opinion and advice to the government that's been useful.
01:17The Electoral Commission says it's travelled across the state to promote the voice election and advised the more than 60
01:24candidates to promote themselves
01:25in the hope of increasing the number of people voting on Saturday.
01:29It's expected the convenience of voting in two elections at the same time will boost the voter turnout.
