This week I pop into @zaftigs for some authentic Chicken Matzo Ball Soup and Tuna Melt on Jewish rye!

00:00All right, welcome to another edition of Bob Eats Boston. Today I'm on Harvard Street in Brookline,
00:04just on the corner of Beacon and Harvard. Very busy here, and talk about busy. This is Zaptig's Jewish Delicatessen.
00:12It's famous. If you've, you know, lived in the Boston area for any amount of time, you're familiar with how
00:17good it is.
00:18I'm going to go in there and hit that matzo ball soup that I've been hearing about. Maybe chicken salad,
00:23tuna salad, who knows.
00:24Let's look at the menu and do it. Let's go.
00:27So, I just sat down at Zaptig's, and already they come out with complimentary bagel chips.
00:34These are really good. And a nice dip with it. It's like a thick kind of a cream cheese.
00:41Fantastic. I'm liking this place already, and I haven't even ordered anything yet.
00:46Good. All right. So, if you come to Zaptig's and you want to have lunch or dinner,
00:52how can you not have the chicken matzo ball soup? That's what they're famous for, and for a good reason.
00:59So, this is just a cup, all right? But look at the size of this matzo ball.
01:03It's like a globe just dropped in there. It's huge. Let's get into it.
01:08All right. Really nice and moist, too, but not moist, but not mushy.
01:12That's what we're looking for. Here we go.
01:15That was Santiago. These are our server.
01:19Mmm. He recommended the matzo ball soup. I'm so glad he did.
01:23This is really good.
01:25The only regret I have is I didn't get a bowl.
01:28So, our server, Santiago, recommended highly tuna melt, and I love a good tuna melt.
01:35So, we put it on some nice Jewish rye with tomato, cucumber, gooey-gooey melted cheddar in there.
01:42Because, as I always say, cheddar makes it better, and it is absolutely delicious.
01:49Mmm. Tastes so fresh.
01:52Santiago also recommended the coleslaw.
01:56Other options were french fries, potato salad, but I have a little sneaky little thing I do.
02:02If your coleslaw is good, everything's probably good.
02:05If your coleslaw sucks, leave.
02:10And that doesn't suck.
02:13Excellent.
02:15So, I had a little bit of discipline tonight.
02:19I only ate half of the tuna melt.
02:20It was stuffed.
02:21I'll take that home.
02:23Finished the coleslaw, the matzo ball soup.
02:25It was all so good.
02:27And, by the way, they serve breakfast all day long.
02:30So, my producer had a really good omelet with some goat cheese.
02:35Other stuff looked absolutely delicious.
02:37So, that's a pretty cool feature.
