00:00To the go, Ricky Carmichael alongside James Stewart.
00:03Two legends of the sport ready to see this first 450 race.
00:06Need to tell you about the Rocky Mountain ATV MC Fantasy Picks
00:10and picked by more than 57% of the fans is the championship leader, Hunter Lawrence.
00:17I guess no great surprise there.
00:19Interestingly, nobody was picking Eli Tomac based on recent form
00:23and unfortunately, if you're just joining us, Eli crashed heavily earlier today
00:27and is not in it.
00:28The wildcard pick aboard his Potluck Honda is the veteran Christian Craig.
00:34Thanks again to Rocky Mountain ATV MC and the Fantasy Picks.
00:39All right, there's James' little brother.
00:40There's Malcolm Stewart.
00:41Could be another podium night tonight, this afternoon for Malcolm.
00:45He's got three chances to try and accomplish that.
00:48Are you ready?
00:49It's time to bring the action here in Cleveland.
00:51Let's go.
00:56Good start.
00:58Hunter Lawrence on the inside and Justin Cooper all in red is the championship leader.
01:03Lawrence to the front.
01:05One thing about the average on starts, Hunter Lawrence leads this field all season long.
01:11The best first average lap and that is huge, especially on a triple crown night.
01:16Why?
01:17Look at the gap here, but keep your eyes on the man that is in third place right now, Ken
01:21Rockson.
01:23He'll be looking to dispose of Justin Cooper very quickly and get out and chase down the championship leader.
01:30Speed through the whoops.
01:32That was awesome.
01:32Yeah, Kenny's on fire.
01:33He wants to try to get around Justin because, as you can see, that 96 is starting to separate himself.
01:37But I think Kenny's looked great all day long in the last couple weekends, so I'm sure he feels like
01:43he has the speed, but he's got to get around the 32.
01:46Stu, that looked like a little bit of you.
01:48When I'm chasing this dude, Ricky Carmichael, yeah, that does look like me about to loop it out out there.
01:53Come on now.
01:54But listen, this is where the 94 of Ken Rockson has been so good all season long, where he's been
02:00great in a lot of areas.
02:01But he is very explosive, has a lot of intensity early on in these races.
02:06He can really use that to his benefit right now, and especially on these triple crown races.
02:12Yeah, but as you mentioned earlier in that breakdown in the corners, it's going to be making it a little
02:15bit difficult for Kenny to pass.
02:17What he's got to do is try to square up Justin, maybe get up the inside of Justin as he
02:22was doing.
02:22Great move.
02:23Nice move.
02:25Rockson to second.
02:26Watch this next lap right here by Ken Rockson.
02:29It's going to be very interesting to see how much time he can make up on Hunter Lawrence.
02:36And, man, this is no surprise, James, when it comes to this part of the season.
02:40We only got four races to go, and the guys that are in first and second in the points championship
02:46are running one-two right now.
02:47Yeah, just that intensity level of what they're racing for, not saying the other guys aren't, but just brings that
02:52heat up.
02:53And the difference between last weekend and this weekend is Kenny was in the opposite position where Hunter was,
02:59so maybe this is free him up a little bit.
03:01He has a chance to go out there and try to chase the number 96 to watch the battle for
03:05fifth, fourth and fifth right here.
03:07Yeah, Jorge Prado, the Spaniard aboard the 26th there, the Red Bull KTM.
03:11He sits fourth.
03:13Then Malcolm Stewart.
03:13There he is aboard the Rockstar Energy Factory, Husqvarna, and Cooper Webb behind him.
03:18Time in the scoring, Hunter Lawrence and Ken Roxen, almost identical lap times there.
03:2445.1.
03:25This is a very short lap time.
03:2945 seconds.
03:31Rarely do they have anything this short.
03:33Normally it's 50 seconds.
03:34Tell you what, though, RC.
03:36Roxen has eaten into that lead by three-tenths of a second.
03:39The Suzuki man is not done with yet with nine minutes, 13 left, plus a lap.
03:44Watch this section of the track as they come through these walks.
03:49Watch Prado and watch Malcolm.
03:51They're going at about less than 15 miles an hour here, and they blast out of here.
03:55Third gear up to almost 60 miles an hour in that short span there.
03:59Yeah, wide open pull and a tear off.
04:01That just shows you how controlled these guys are.
04:03But I talked to my brother between the race.
04:05He felt really comfortable here.
04:07I think with the fans being up here in the dog pound here in Cleveland,
04:10I'm sure he's got a lot of motivation as he slides up the inside of Jorge.
04:14Jorge did a good job of getting out of that section.
04:16Yeah, and you can see the corners like we showed you guys coming off that break right here.
04:21It just, like James said, it makes it so difficult when it's just one big bowl turn
04:26and you don't have multi lines.
04:28Very, very difficult to pass.
04:32Let's not forget about the resilience of the 27.
04:36Malcolm Stewart started this year with a broken scapula and still rode under that injury.
04:41Look at that for a quick switchback.
04:43And Prado knows that he's all over him.
04:45Yeah, I like that for a passing opportunity.
04:48If you can get that corner right, it makes the guy have to decide on this next corner
04:51after the mechanics there go to inside or outside.
04:53You might be able to slide up the inside.
04:55So, yeah, you'll see these guys slide the rear end of their bike out very early in the corner
05:01to try to get a good drive down.
05:03Really, that's their only opportunity to make a pass in a corner.
05:08There are two riders that both have one podium each this year.
05:12They're in search of their second.
05:14And you're talking about a guy who's a multi-time motocross world champion,
05:19but he is still learning his way on supercross here in the United States.
05:23The Spaniard is doing better every time out.
05:27Oh, there goes Malcolm again!
05:30Trying to get him.
05:31What you're seeing, Jorge's slowing down so Malcolm can't cut underneath.
05:34Eventually, he keeps doing that.
05:35He's going to get that pass.
05:38I think, Malcolm, do you think he's going to run out of patience
05:41if this continues to carry on, James, or what?
05:44If he had it, he'd start with.
05:46But if he does, that's what you're going to say.
05:49The move would be hit right here.
05:52So Malcolm Stewart is in search of his first top five
05:55in a triple crown race this year.
05:57And there he leaps his way into fourth place.
06:00Can the Spaniard respond?
06:02Not at this second.
06:04Oh!
06:04Malcolm lands hard.
06:05Prado comes back.
06:09Let's talk more of Malcolm Stewart with Will Christian.
06:11Here he comes, Will.
06:14He's not going to settle.
06:16There's absolutely no settle at all in your brother, James, as you know.
06:20And speaking with him earlier, he's kind of in a different situation
06:23to so many of these guys out here.
06:25Because here we are.
06:26We set with four rounds to go.
06:27Attrition sets in.
06:28They're deep into their season.
06:30But for Malcolm, after the injury lead that you talked about recovering from,
06:33he said he's still on the up.
06:35His trajectory is still kind of like racing into this season.
06:38So he said, I'm on the way up.
06:40Everybody else is kind of where they are.
06:41And he felt very positive about his situation today.
06:44Yeah.
06:44No, I agree with that.
06:45And it also brought the kids.
06:47So, you know, when they show up, Uncle Mal has to show up as well
06:50as Cooper Webb makes the pass around Jorge Prado.
06:52But go back a few weekends ago, I was waiting to see what would happen
06:55between Jorge and Cooper Webb.
06:57Remember, Ricky, they got into it.
06:59Yeah.
06:59But clean pass, and Cooper's on his way.
07:01Yeah.
07:02Cooper Webb was really fast earlier today in time qualifying practice.
07:06One of the front runners for sure.
07:08He just falling victim of a bad start here early.
07:13And it's so hard to make up that track position when you don't get a good start.
07:18I want to say congratulations to the Webb family, to Cooper and his wife, Mariah,
07:22because baby number three arrived.
07:26Revy, welcome to the world.
07:29His zone coverage now.
07:31Oh, yeah.
07:31Zone coverage, him and Mariah.
07:33Man, this would be great to have a good finish here, celebrating his third-born child.
07:39Awesome.
07:39He very proudly describes himself as a girl dad.
07:42And now, at Triple Crown Week, he has the triple treat of three daughters.
07:48Terrific stuff.
07:49Three daughters to go with three championships.
07:51Exactly.
07:55What do you make of Cooper on this afternoon here in Ohio, JT?
07:59I think he might be raising his own sorority over there, trying Delta Webb, possibly.
08:04But you just wonder the emotions that he's feeling here.
08:07Webb delivers her child.
08:09He has to hop on an airplane.
08:10But he looks pretty focused here.
08:12You know, he's still chasing this championship.
08:14A lot of people have counted him out.
08:15He's 20-plus points down.
08:16But a guy like Cooper Webb is never going to give in until it's over.
08:21He finds his way to maybe climb up another position or two.
08:23He can find his way on the podium tonight.
08:25Well, you talk about Cooper Webb right here.
08:27And I haven't ruled him out.
08:29Or a guy like Justin Cooper as well.
08:31But listen, this man won the Triple Crown in Houston and didn't even win a race throughout that night.
08:37So that's another great thing about the Triple Crown.
08:40You can win the overall and not have a race win.
08:43Yeah, I agree with you.
08:44And a big scheme of things, we go back with Ken Robson.
08:48Three weekends ago, he was 31 points out of the lead.
08:51And last weekend, he was within five.
08:52So Cooper Webb is well within that.
08:54And he knows, championship-wise, there's still an opportunity there.
08:58And the points-paying format in this Triple Crown is the lowest amount of points is what wins the night.
09:05It's kind of like golf scoring.
09:08Back up front.
09:09What a start to this Triple Crown for Hunter Lawrence.
09:12And James, this is an incredible ride by Hunter Lawrence.
09:16And the reason that I believe that is because, number one, he got a great start.
09:19And with everything on the line, you were talking about it before we went on there,
09:23how important it would be for either Kenny or Hunter to win this race from a championship perspective.
09:30Well, he's doing a great job out in front.
09:31Let's hear from the man himself.
09:37Just trying to get one race at a time under my belt.
09:40We're doing really well.
09:41We've had a great season.
09:42I'm just grateful.
09:44I'm grateful.
09:44I've worked so hard for this.
09:46I'm enjoying it.
09:48But, yeah, just trying to take it all in, honestly, and just really enjoy it because there'll be a time
09:53when I don't race anymore.
09:54And I'll probably look back on this as a very fond memory and stuff.
09:58So just trying to soak it all up, take it all in, and enjoy it.
10:02We're parked on the lake that looks like an ocean.
10:05And it's massive in a cool venue, cool city.
10:08So, yeah, it's going to be a great weekend.
10:11Yeah, that's the one thing I love about Hunter.
10:13He does take it one race at a time.
10:14But as you were saying, Ricky, I feel like there are certain parts of the season where you just kind
10:19of make it happen.
10:20And I feel like the last couple weekends with Hunter Lawrence being tied with Eli Tomac, you know, in this
10:25race,
10:25he has an opportunity to get some more points on Ken Roxanne.
10:29And what that does, it gives him a little bit of wiggle room in case something happens.
10:32He has a little bit more room.
10:33So this is a pivotal night for him or day for him to be able to get this first win,
10:38JT.
10:39It is, James.
10:40And when you really think about the season, it has been so much about execution for Hunter Lawrence.
10:45Every time he's needed to kind of rise up and answer the bell, he's done so.
10:50Last week was a perfect example of that.
10:51And even here in race one, when Ken Roxanne got into second, we all knew, Ricky mentioned it,
10:56Ken Roxanne was going to throw in all the intensity, try to close that gap immediately.
11:00And Hunter responded, even though he makes a mistake.
11:03He was able to respond, put in the same lap time as Ken Roxanne.
11:07And once Kenny realized he wasn't able to close the gap, it really felt like that was a pivotal moment
11:12here in race one.
11:12Well, that was almost a pivotal moment right there for Hunter Lawrence.
11:16He got some serious whiplash there, comes up short.
11:19This track is super difficult right now.
11:21A lot of ruts forming up in between the rhythm lanes, and it's getting slick.
11:26Bottom box, you're looking at the Troy Lee-designed Red Bull Ducati behind this man here.
11:33Chase Sexton.
11:33Want to talk about the next guy.
11:34There he is, the 31-year-old Frenchman Dylan Ferrandez.
11:37Multi-time 250 Supercross champ.
11:39He's an outdoor 450 motocross champion.
11:42And this is the first season for this manufacturer, this team, this outfit.
11:47Unfortunately, his teammate Justin Barsha was injured at the opening round.
11:51But this guy here is coming off his best result of the season,
11:54and the best result ever for this TLD Red Bull Ducati.
11:58Sixth last weekend in Nashville.
12:00That was awesome.
12:00Oh, fantastic ride, especially on a very difficult track.
12:04That track last week was dry, very, very hard, but no surprise.
12:10Plenty capable of these type of results, for sure.
12:13But going back to what you were talking about, James,
12:15and what a win could do for a guy like Hunter Lawrence,
12:19that means he can go into next week at Philly and have a little less pressure,
12:23not be in a must situation.
12:26JT.
12:27Just to give a little weather update,
12:29you can see how shiny it's getting in some of those sections.
12:31The rain has picked up quite a bit.
12:33Now, I don't think we're going to turn into a full mud situation,
12:36but what James mentioned earlier about how slippery it is on this racetrack,
12:40that is going to be the challenge,
12:41because it's definitely gotten worse over the last 10 minutes.
12:44Yeah, just looking out of our booth,
12:46definitely coming down harder.
12:48As time winds down,
12:51when the clock hits zero,
12:53depending on where the leader Hunter Lawrence is,
12:55there's either going to be one or two laps left.
12:58A little further back is Chase Sexton in seven,
13:01and then his teammate Garrett Marchbank is behind him,
13:04and Justin Hill coming off a season best fifth in Nashville.
13:08Hill runs in the 10th position.
13:10Yeah, when you think about the number four, Monster Energy Kawasaki, Ricky,
13:14this is kind of the same route he had last weekend.
13:17You know, not the best of stars.
13:18It looked like he just kind of got out there and rode
13:20and made his way up into the top five,
13:22and I just think that shows you how much talent this guy has,
13:25and I'm sure it's hard for him to kind of deal with that.
13:28Chase wants to win.
13:29He's a champion,
13:30but maybe steps for the number four in the Kawasaki.
13:32Well, 100%,
13:33and like we talked about at the top of the show,
13:35and I went to the offseason,
13:37and as far as odds go,
13:40this would have been one of the favorites,
13:42and it's been a challenging year,
13:44needless to say,
13:45for the number four,
13:46that Monster Energy Kawasaki team, Chase Sexton.
13:49Last time we had a Triple Crown,
13:50it was at Indianapolis,
13:51and this man here,
13:52he came away with a victory.
13:55He has started this Triple Crown afternoon
13:58here in Cleveland
13:59on the sports return to this city
14:02for the first time in more than three decades.
14:04He was on board that HRC Honda Progressive machine,
14:08and Hunter Lawrence wins again
14:10and starts this Triple Crown afternoon
14:13in the best possible way.
14:15That was an impressive ride, James.
14:18I mean, you talk about it.
14:19There's times where you just need to step up,
14:21and he did it right there.
14:24Wow.
14:25At one point,
14:26Roxen was as close as 1.3 seconds
14:28to Hunter Lawrence.
14:30The winning margin ended up
14:31five and a half seconds.
14:34Yeah, there's probably at some point
14:36in this race,
14:36Kenny decided,
14:37I'm not going to be able to get him.
14:39We've got another two races, so...
14:40And, James,
14:41do you think that will affect
14:43Ken at all on the mental side
14:45moving forward
14:46with these next two rounds
14:47or the next two races?
14:48Not this Kenny.
14:49Not this version of Kenny.
14:51I think he's in a solid spot.
14:52I agree with you.
14:53Yeah, he'll be fine.
14:54And this man here
14:55has told us time and again
14:57he's enjoying it.
14:58He's in a good headspace.
15:00He knows how well he's riding,
15:02and he's moved
15:03into a different zone
15:04in his career.
15:05Well, you think about this, too.
15:06I mean,
15:07how exciting the Triple Crown is
15:09and how exciting the 250 was,
15:11the 450.
15:12We've got two more of them
15:13coming up here shortly.
15:15We do.
15:17And that expression,
15:18that's like...
