00:001,021 and it's lining up perfect for him to get another one this season.
00:06I think he can get her done.
00:08Yeah, but another guy he's going to have to try to beat is Seth Handmaker.
00:11He's got four career wins, sitting second overall at the moment right now,
00:15but he's never won a triple crown.
00:17Another fact, if he's able to win this thing, he can stop that Yamaha domination.
00:21He's the only guy that's able to get that so far this year.
00:24Let's see if he can back it up again.
00:27Well, for the 58 of Dax and Binnick, he's really been an underreported story so far this season.
00:33He's been battling for podiums.
00:34He gets to that crash last weekend, then he gets a third in race one.
00:37He has a chance to be back on the podium.
00:40You see him sitting there in fourth right now.
00:42This will be a great way to continue this East Coast division for Dax to get up back on the
00:46podium.
00:48Well, a very well-reported story is the success of this man here, Devin Simonson,
00:53after receiving his guitar there after the fact, without the podium there we saw last week
00:59in his first podium of the year, just thinking to where he has come from.
01:02He spent a couple of summers just working away at the Club MX track there,
01:08just paying for himself, hoping for this seat to open up so he could come and compete,
01:13and he rewarded them last weekend with their first podium.
01:17An incredible performance, and we're not seeing it wavering at this point.
01:21And he's carrying on.
01:23How about this guy?
01:25Derek Kelly, the 27-year-old from Boise, Idaho.
01:288-8 sees him 7th overall, and he's in a tie for 10th with a factory Kawasaki rider in Nick
01:35Romano.
01:36He's ahead of Nick so far on the scoreboard tonight.
01:39If he beats him here in this race, he will be in the top 10 by himself.
01:44That's a tremendous effort for MX-6 Racing, a first-year team,
01:49and the privateer Kawasaki team going up against the factory one.
01:53Plenty of great stories here.
01:55More to unfold.
01:56Third and final race, 250 East.
01:58Cleveland, let's do it again.
02:02Davies on the inside with a great start.
02:06Oh, it looks like Steph goes down in that first corner, got pinched off.
02:11Oh, no.
02:12Yep, just got pinched off right there.
02:14Nate Thrasher got a terrible jump off the gate,
02:17but it looks like he slides up in that number three position,
02:19but he got off front.
02:21Is that Davies?
02:23Davies, Cole Davies out front.
02:24They don't look the same out there.
02:26Yeah, Landon Gordon there in second position,
02:29but this is a great spot for Nate Thrasher to be in.
02:33Take a look at the restart.
02:35Yeah, you can tell Nate got a bad start,
02:38but Cole starts pinching these guys off.
02:40You can see number 10, Steph Amaker on the inside.
02:43He tries, he tries, but, yep, just goes down really easy to happen.
02:48And that's a bummer because it was by his teammate, right?
02:50But Nick didn't do anything wrong.
02:52He just ran out of real estate.
02:54Worst-case scenario, unfortunately, for Seth Amaker
02:57because his arch-rival here is leading
03:00and he is way down with a lot of work to do from 16th place.
03:05Plug to the SMX track crew right here.
03:08They have been doing overtime
03:09and they have made a great racetrack here
03:13for these racers this afternoon.
03:16It's a lot better than what I thought it was going to be.
03:19Those ruts on the rhythm.
03:21I think eventually these guys would try to get off rhythm
03:24and kind of start jumping over that
03:25because the fast line earlier today,
03:27these guys won't be able to hit it, at least at this point.
03:29But Landon Gordon switched to gear on me.
03:32He kind of threw me off right there, Lee.
03:33All right, take the folks at home into your two respective worlds
03:37when you were youngsters, when you first went pro,
03:40and you were in your first few weekends as a pro.
03:44Were you doing as well as this guy?
03:47Think about back to your day and tell the folks.
03:49Well, my first race, for sure not.
03:51I couldn't control my emotions like Landon Gordon did.
03:54I got 17th overall, but I did win the next win.
03:57But I think you won your first one, didn't you, James?
03:59I was close.
04:00I ended up second my first one, but I crashed by 50 times that day.
04:04Luckily, I had two guys take each other off, ended up on the podium.
04:07But I did win the second one.
04:08But that being said, these guys are just, they're built right.
04:11You can go back to the XMX Next program
04:14and the opportunities that these guys get.
04:16It's not a stranger to see them come in here in the second race
04:19and be on the podium because everything, all the success around them,
04:23they got it set up for them to do good.
04:25Well, and they have so many assets around them,
04:27and they're practicing with these riders all the time, every single day.
04:32So it's more realistic, and they kind of know what that feels like, I believe.
04:36It gives further credence to the program known as SMX Next
04:40to get the youngsters out a handful of times on these big, big stages.
04:47Bottom box is Seth Hamaker working his way through.
04:50Last time we spoke to you about him, he was 16th.
04:52He's inside the top 10, now in eighth.
04:54That's a heck of a comeback, James.
04:56Yeah, it is.
04:58And truthfully, if he gets a few more spots,
05:01you know, he might have an opportunity to get with Cole
05:03because as they stand right now, Cole's sitting on 10.
05:05Seth is at 12, now it should be 11.
05:09I'm going to have an opportunity with six and a half,
05:11almost seven minutes left in this to be able to still get up
05:13and make some points up on the leader up front.
05:16That's right.
05:18I mean, you have to assume, oh, there's this teammate, Nick Romano,
05:22laying down there, where he's up, but...
05:26Oh, Thrasher closed up on Benick.
05:29Again, gnarly drive for Daxson Benick,
05:32especially being sent, like Will was talking about in one of her reports,
05:38tough to do on a triple crown, that's for sure.
05:40While we watch these guys at the front,
05:42can we just go back to Nick Romano for a minute?
05:44Yeah.
05:44That guy was coming into this third and final race in the top 10
05:48after the first two events.
05:51He had to come by the LCQ.
05:53He had the last position in the last chance qualifier.
05:58Oh, man.
06:00That's a shame because he was doing everything right
06:03and, unfortunately, it's all gone not so great
06:06for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team.
06:09You think about Drew Adams getting injured in the last race
06:11and then his Romano's teammate and championship hopeful
06:15said Hamaker went down when he was squeezed a little bit
06:18and now, unfortunately, Nick's gone down.
06:20So it's been a tough day for the men in green.
06:23Yeah, good sign of at least getting on the motorcycle and riding off.
06:26You can tell by the handlebar.
06:27He wouldn't be able to ride the bike anyway,
06:29at least safely with it being so far down.
06:31But, I mean, what a rebound by this guy.
06:34He knew in his third race, winning it overall.
06:37It's probably going to be a long shot,
06:38but still getting out here, winning this,
06:40you know, possibly winning this race.
06:42This looks a little more like Nicole Davies
06:45we've been seeing the last four weeks.
06:48Really impressed by Landon Moore in that second spot.
06:51That just shows you how talented all these kids is,
06:54but also just the confidence of him being able to come out
06:57get that second in that second race.
07:00And so far today's been good.
07:01Once they start believing that they've blown up here,
07:04now he's running this and it won't be a surprise, Lee.
07:06By the way, look at the points at the bottom left of your screen
07:09as they run right now.
07:10Thrasher, Gordon, Davies.
07:12It would be a clean sweep by Monster Energy star Yamaha.
07:18And JT Yamaha, the blue crew,
07:21continue to just clobber the opposition this year
07:24as far as an OEM, a manufacturer.
07:27They're doing incredible.
07:28They are.
07:29They're just churning out results.
07:30And look at Landon Gordon closing down
07:33under championship points leader Cole Davies.
07:35And think about what it's been like for this season for him.
07:38He starts out at SMX Next.
07:39He watches Cade Dudney get the promotion
07:42to move into the East Coast.
07:43He's kind of biding his time, doing well in SMX Next.
07:46Then he gets thrown into the deep end
07:48midway through this championship.
07:50And in his second race as a professional,
07:52if he stays away from that tough walk,
07:54he might end up here with a podium.
07:56He might end up with a podium,
07:58but if he makes the pass on his teammates,
07:59he's going to end up more than that.
08:02We're looking at the Monster Energy star Yamaha,
08:04and that's appropriate.
08:06We've already crossed the halfway mark
08:07of this last race.
08:08Quick reminder to stock up
08:09on Monster Energy drinks
08:11at your local True North convenience store.
08:163.44 to go, plus a lap.
08:23Last race for the 250 East.
08:25One race to come,
08:26and part of the same team
08:28as the successful one
08:29you're looking at on the top box
08:31is Justin Cooper.
08:32He's ready to remount
08:34and try and win his first 450 overall.
08:38That'd be something special.
08:39You know, I go back to one of the questions
08:41you asked me and James Lee
08:43and what it was like.
08:44How did we do our first couple professional races?
08:46And I just think about
08:48what that journey was to get there.
08:50And then when you finally got on the podium
08:52or you finally got that first win,
08:54and it's like, wow,
08:56all that hard work
08:58and sacrifice that your family made
09:00that you made as a rider,
09:02it's like it paid off.
09:04And I just wonder if that's even a thought
09:07for Landon right now.
09:08Well, I can tell you,
09:09a couple more minutes,
09:10he's got to start thinking about that.
09:11And that might take that opportunity
09:13to him to push forward
09:14and try to get Cole
09:15because it's still going to be
09:16a great night
09:17if he ends up on a podium.
09:18Nonetheless,
09:19it's very special for him.
09:23Nate Thrasher
09:24might be sitting
09:27a little further back
09:28than where he would like to be
09:29in this race,
09:30but he is the overall leader
09:32as far as the points
09:33for this Triple Crown.
09:35Will?
09:37The season's been one
09:38that could almost look confusing
09:40when you look at an 11th
09:42to open it at Arlington,
09:43a couple of tenths in there
09:44and then things started
09:45to come together
09:46so losing a fourth last weekend
09:48with a second
09:49and here in position
09:50potentially to win.
09:51But this is all
09:52because of the injury
09:53that was his shoulder
09:54and was affecting his hands
09:55to the point whereby
09:56he had no feeling
09:57in it whatsoever.
09:58He had some treatment on that,
10:00got that fixed
10:00and everything started
10:02to come good,
10:03but Nate is not somebody
10:04to make excuses
10:05so he was really quite quiet
10:06about what he was going through
10:08and then they had to catch up
10:09with the bike a little bit.
10:10So in a place now
10:11where he's healthy,
10:12the bike's kind of caught up
10:13with his pace now
10:14and we're starting to see
10:14what we know he's capable of.
10:17Yeah, well said.
10:18Can you imagine going back
10:19and just being very quiet
10:21and finding out
10:21he's like,
10:22well, I haven't really been able
10:22to feel my hand and my arm
10:24so far this season.
10:26Now I'm getting feeling back.
10:27Well, that kind of made sense,
10:28but great job by Nate.
10:30Slap riders are really tricky
10:32for these guys.
10:32You can tell the rain
10:33is starting to come back down.
10:36Here we go.
10:38This is a movie we've seen before.
10:41The Club MX duo
10:42of Cody Shock,
10:43Devin Simonson,
10:45these two who spend
10:46an inordinate amount of time
10:48riding and training together
10:50at the facility in South Carolina
10:53find themselves on the track again.
10:56The last time they were
10:57next to each other on the track,
10:59it was a wild ride
11:00for Devin Simonson,
11:02that's for sure.
11:05Laffer's coming into a play.
11:08Yeah, but these two
11:09have done a great job
11:10at not slowing each other
11:12down too much
11:13because I was watching
11:13the gap between them
11:15and Seth Handmaker
11:16and Seth was starting to close,
11:17but then all of a sudden
11:18this gap stabilized
11:19and they've done a great job
11:20at racing four.
11:22By the way, Stu,
11:24we want to help them out,
11:26get the message out
11:27because we spent some time
11:29with them in Nashville
11:30before the first gate drop
11:32and they said,
11:33it's kind of funny
11:34to read social media
11:35and they think,
11:36they said,
11:36a lot of people think
11:37there's beef between us.
11:39They said,
11:39it's actually the opposite.
11:40We're really quite good friends
11:42and we spend a crazy amount
11:43of time together.
11:44So it was racing.
11:46Oh no, down goes Devin Simonson.
11:49Oh, tough hit.
11:50Yeah.
11:50I mean, at the end of the day,
11:52we all respect them.
11:53You respect your teammate,
11:54but I know underneath the helmet
11:55they want to beat each other,
11:56but there's a way of doing that.
11:58And I think they're willing
11:59to work together as a team
12:00to make sure everybody's better.
12:02And that's what you so far,
12:04you see that at the Club MX Yamaha team.
12:07Oh, there's some,
12:08it looked like Cody Shock
12:10was grabbing his clutch a lot there
12:12after he goes down.
12:13So he's going to come out
12:14of this corner right here
12:15and he gets off balance
12:17on the takeoff
12:18in between that transition.
12:20Nothing he could do there.
12:22Super easy to happen
12:23on slick conditions like this.
12:24My apologies.
12:25I misspoke.
12:26Said it was Devin
12:27instead of Cody Shock.
12:28Okay.
12:29Pardon me.
12:29Meanwhile, back up front,
12:31final lap,
12:31Cole Davies.
12:32By the way,
12:33that ball by Shock
12:34helped Hamaker
12:36move up a position.
12:37So the points
12:39are going to be pretty interesting.
12:41And the top two
12:42in the championship
12:43will come away
12:43from this Triple Crown
12:44with a race win each.
12:47It's still Nate Thrasher
12:49on top of the overall points.
12:51Hamaker and Davies
12:52will come away
12:53level on points
12:54in the overall.
12:56but it's a familiar theme.
12:58Cole Davies winning.
13:00It's the final race.
13:01He won't get the overall
13:02but his teammate
13:04Nate Thrasher
13:04most certainly will
13:06and continues his wins.
13:08He's had at least one
13:09every season
13:10for the last five years.
13:12Well done, Nate Thrasher.
13:13Great rebound
13:14by both these guys.
13:15Congrats.
13:16Nate D-O-double-G
13:17getting his first
13:18win of the year
13:19in here.
13:20Triple Crown
13:21breaking that streak.
13:22Now he's got one
13:23with an actual race win
13:24and great job
13:26by the Monster Energy
13:27Star Racing Yamaha too
13:29sweeping that podium
13:31like that
13:31and man,
13:33I'll tell you what,
13:34I'm stoked for Thrasher
13:35but I am really,
13:36really happy
13:37for the rookie
13:38Landon Gordon
13:39to watch him
13:40get his first podium
13:41and just straight up
13:42earned it.
13:43Amazing.
13:44Amazing result.
13:45This guy here on screen
13:46is one of those riders
13:47where you say,
13:48oh boy,
13:49I thought that
13:49we'd get a little bit more
13:51from Nate Thrasher
13:51and as soon as you say that,
13:53bam,
13:53he comes out
13:54and gets the win.
13:55Again,
13:56free agent.
13:57Free agent.
13:58So he probably,
13:58he probably just
14:00locked up a deal
14:01off of this win
14:02right here
14:03for next year
14:03with somebody.
14:05Yeah.
14:07And he is the fifth
14:08different Yamaha rider
14:09to win this year.
14:10That just shows you
14:11how strong that team is.
14:12It's incredible.
14:14Absolutely incredible.
14:15Well done,
14:16Nate Thrasher.
14:17You've done it again,
14:17mate.
14:18Bye-bye.
14:18Bye-bye.
14:18Bye-bye.
