00:00Prince Hayden Deegan right there.
00:01This guy's unbelievable talent.
00:03Let's talk more about Cole Davies with Jason Thomas.
00:06JT.
00:07Thank you, Lee.
00:08Well, the start to Cole Davies' career has been nothing short of sensational.
00:11If he wins today and he wins next week in Philadelphia,
00:14he could clinch his first ever 250 East Divisional Championship.
00:17But let's frame out for a second.
00:19Let's look at the stats through his first 16 races
00:22compared to some of the legends of the sport.
00:24Now, he has the second-best average finish.
00:27That's better than James Stewart.
00:28That's better than Ricky Carmichael, two of the best to ever do this.
00:32So nothing is assured in the story from Cole Davies from here.
00:35But so far, the stats don't lie, gentlemen.
00:37There are a couple of other important stats on that one there, JT.
00:40That is Ricky and James both had 10 and 11 wins, respectively.
00:44We got a couple, but that can't do it.
00:47So he's yet to catch the two gentlemen to my right just at the moment.
00:51Hey, Will alluded to this a moment ago, folks.
00:53We have had some weather here in Cleveland,
00:55but it wasn't as bad as what was predicted.
00:57It's been some nice, light rain to help the track.
01:01Let's see how the competitors handle it.
01:03It is the first of three races in the 250 East Division here in Cleveland.
01:09Who gets that start?
01:10There's Cole Davies.
01:11Look, there's three-star Yamahas in the top four positions.
01:15It's Davies out in front.
01:16Yeah, this is the battle we wanted to see.
01:18Seth Hamaker versus Cole Davies.
01:20Seth was in second in that championship.
01:22After a tough weekend last weekend, he wanted to come back and rebound Cole Davies and his teammates.
01:26They're in a good spot.
01:27Well, it's Nate Thrasher who's jumped to the front.
01:29Davies was in front, but now you see him there with Seth Hamaker.
01:32Ricky?
01:32Yeah, Nate Thrasher coming off of a podium.
01:34This is a guy that is capable of winning, showing some good speed the last couple weeks.
01:39Kind of recovering from being banged up all season long, but great pass by the number 10 of Seth Hamaker.
01:45He kind of pushed the 37 of Cole Davies out wide in that 90-degree corner.
01:49Yeah, I mean, he knows his go time as far as the championship-wise, and, you know, unlike the other
01:54races, this is a triple crown.
01:56This is essentially a main event, a short main event, so you're going to see a lot of these guys
02:00as Cole Davies tries to go up the inside of Seth, makes that pass there.
02:04You're going to see these guys within his intensity early.
02:06Oh, fantastic pass right there by Cole Davies just up the inside.
02:10He does a different combination on the rhythm lane, and like James just told you guys, the intensity level on
02:15these triple crowns are through the roof.
02:17It's basically like three heat races, and all these guys had the endurance to bring the action the whole time.
02:23It is refreshing to see Nate Thrasher find some momentum coming off, as Ricky alluded to, his best result of
02:29the season last week with second, and he was frustrated by that second place.
02:34As Seth Hamaker, you're watching on Bike 10, the Kawasaki, the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki machine, trying to stay
02:41with the championship leader.
02:43That's going to be tough.
02:44Cole's had some speed over these guys all day long as he's starting to close in on his teammate, and
02:48it's kind of the same thing that happened last week here with Seth.
02:51Once Cole got around him, he started making a few mistakes easy to happen, but he's got to lay it
02:56all out there.
02:57I'm thinking of Nate Thrasher, our leader right now for that Monster Energy star racing Yamaha at number 25, and
03:03he's a free agent.
03:04So a lot on the line, not only just to get that win and what it does for you mentally,
03:09but, man, this is going to help his stock option for sure.
03:15The teammates, they're used to doing this at the goat farm at the training facility, JT.
03:20So this looks rather familiar, but Davies will not like being behind one of his teammates.
03:26Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how he approaches it.
03:28There's certainly no strangers to each other, but Nate Thrasher understands the situation.
03:33With Joe Shimoda, the reigning SMX 250 World Chief, and exiting this series, that presents opportunity from here on out.
03:40Just like Ricky mentioned, he's in a contract year.
03:43He felt like nothing less than a podium was acceptable the rest of the way, and he's certainly on his
03:48way so far.
03:50This is a guy that, in my opinion, James, has some potential.
03:54Maybe get on a different program, even if he ends up not staying on the team he's at now.
04:00Sometimes that potential, you can work with it, and it gives you a lot of options.
04:05Yeah, no, I agree with you.
04:06Nate has that talent, just like all these other guys.
04:09So right now, he's got his hands full with his teammate right now, Cole Davies, who has some great pace.
04:15Here we go.
04:16Look at this.
04:17Look at the difference through that rhythm section.
04:19You can see, you can feel that move coming, and it's only a matter of time.
04:25It's actually a really good heads up riding by Cole and not trying to shut Nate down.
04:28He would have got to land it on.
04:29So right now, the only person that's helping is the guy in third place, Seth.
04:33He needs to get up here while these guys are battling.
04:37Cole's holding him up.
04:38James, you talked about it in the opening of the show with Cole Davies.
04:42Look at this.
04:44Oh, I thought he was going to make the move.
04:45Does he cross back underneath him?
04:55Credit to Nate Thrasher.
04:57He's made life difficult for Cole Davies.
04:59There's still six minutes over this first triple crown, and down Davies goes.
05:04That is something that you don't often see.
05:08Yeah, you could just tell Cole.
05:09He was starting to feel that.
05:10I don't think he was really too rushed.
05:12There's still a lot to go, but you're starting to see that number 10 creeping up, and that's what I
05:16was talking about earlier, that Seth needed to get up while he's got to battle him.
05:21Watch what happens here, number 37, red number plate.
05:24Cole Davies is going to come out of this corner, and as he does, starts to lean forward, and he
05:29pushes the front end.
05:30The front end over rotates, comes down the line, and down he goes.
05:35That's going to be tough here in this triple crown.
05:37Not going to have a lot of time.
05:38You can see the time on the top left side of your screen.
05:41Five minutes and 23 seconds, plus one lap.
05:45These races are so fast.
05:48Behind Hamaker is Daxton Benek aboard the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna.
05:52Make that land, and Gordon has made a move.
05:54Cody Shock is in the mix.
05:55Romano, who had to come through the last chance qualifier.
05:58Nick is nicely in the top 10 in seven.
06:02Behind Davies, and then Derek Kelly, Isaiah Clark, and Gavin Towers, top 10.
06:06And James, these triple crowns are so important, and the reason that we say that is because if you're able
06:12to have two good first races,
06:15you can kind of set the tone for the third one.
06:17You're not in a do-or-die situation, so very important for the guys like Nate Thrasher and Hamaker to
06:23have a good first and second race.
06:26Yeah, I agree.
06:27I mean, it's pretty simple, just lowest points wins at this, so 1.1.2, and you go there.
06:32So if Cole Davies can get back up to at least that third position, maybe at least four, if you
06:37have a good shot.
06:38But right now, the one guy who wants to start moving up is our second place, Seth Hamaker, trying to
06:43get around Nate Thrasher.
06:44Look at the bottom box.
06:46That's Cody Shock trying to hold off Cole Davies for a top five.
06:51Oh, and Davies almost goes down for the second time in this race.
06:54Yeah, and what's happening right now, Cole is trying to get out of the main lines, and because the track
07:00has a little bit of water on it from this rain and it's loose,
07:03when you cut out of that, you get low, you just start losing rear end, and that's what happened to
07:07him.
07:07Good save by him.
07:08Good move here.
07:09Hamaker flicks it back, accelerates.
07:12He knows that Thrasher's going to come up the inside here on this next ball turn and gets the lead
07:16back.
07:17Yeah, Nate had to do that.
07:19Looks like Steph gets back up on the inside.
07:21Now he's probably going to slow down and try to block Nate.
07:24Good riding move right there.
07:25And this is big for Seth Hamaker, who has been losing points the last two rounds.
07:31He could finally get something back on championship leader Cole Davies, Will.
07:37Lee, when I spoke to Seth Hamaker yesterday about this format and what it could open up for him opportunity
07:43-wise,
07:43he was well aware of it.
07:45He was just his usual kind of calm self.
07:47He had it together, and he's like, anything can happen, and I need things to get switched up here.
07:52What we just saw to Cole Davies was exactly what he had in mind.
07:56Points pay for the night in this main event, and if he can keep this up and take advantage,
08:01he can claw back some of the bigger points there in the championship.
08:04That's exactly what he needed.
08:05I want to remind you to scan the QR code you're about to see on your screen, bottom left,
08:10for a chance to win an Insta360 camera.
08:12It's fast, it's easy.
08:13Scan it now.
08:14Ended a win.
08:15Good luck.
08:15And one thing I think that you're seeing going back to Cole Davies and making those small mistakes,
08:21the corners are a little bit different this weekend than they have been basically all season long.
08:26Not kind of traditional.
08:28They're big, sandy, loose corners where a lot of times in Supercross, there's a bunch of ruts.
08:33If you watch Supercross, you know what we're talking about.
08:35We'll throw a demonstration, but you can see the big powdery burbs makes it very difficult to pass when everyone's
08:42taking the same line,
08:43and there's not a lot of ruts in the corners.
08:45So the man leading the race and second in the championship points, how does he feel about this format of
08:50Triple Crown racing?
08:54Yeah, Triple Crown always brings out some chaos, but my plan is to get off to some good starts, ride
09:00my own race, stay out of the chaos, and just kind of try and worry about myself.
09:04I'm sure the track's going to be a challenge in itself, and I'm going to have to be laser-focused.
09:09So, yeah, that's kind of my plan going into it.
09:13But, yeah, stay consistent and hopefully get the overall win.
09:16James, what's your thoughts on the Triple Crown format?
09:18I mean, I love it.
09:19I never had a chance to race.
09:21They didn't have this format back in my day.
09:22I would have loved this, but I also feel like you're in this position where Seth is.
09:26Maybe somebody's pressure is a little bit off of you.
09:28You know, you need things to happen for you to claw back some of these points, so you're a little
09:32bit more loose.
09:32But at the end of the day, I feel like this Triple Crown maybe gives you a little bit of
09:36room to have a Cole Davies moment where you go down and maybe not, I guess, try to get that
09:41top five.
09:42See these whoop sections right there where Simonson, pardon me, is that Simonson?
09:47That's Cody Shock.
09:48Cody Shock, number 22 there.
09:50Love it, Max Yamaha.
09:52Of course, Cole Davies at number 37, red plate, championship leader.
09:56They are blitzing the whoops, getting on top of them, going from peak to peak.
10:00But later on throughout this race and what they're doing in time qualifying practice, they were jumping through.
10:05Remember we showed you Eli Tomek going down.
10:08They're very skatey, and you can catch an edge, and you can end up on your lid really quick if
10:13you're not being careful and mindful of them.
10:15Yeah, and what's making this worse, you can't tell on TV, but it's starting to rain, and it's that light
10:19rain.
10:19So all these shiny spots are going to make it even more difficult, as Ricky said.
10:23These whoops are really slippery.
10:25The more this rain comes down, if it stays like this, it's going to be really tough for these guys
10:28to witness traction.
10:31This is very, very unusual to see Cole Davies in this position.
10:35At the first round of the 250 East Division Championship, we saw him go down in the main event and
10:42have to work his way back.
10:43He ended up finishing fifth. It was a tremendous comeback.
10:45Ever since then, the guy hasn't finished worse than second.
10:48So that's why we're a little shocked to see this happening, but proof that the teenager is fallible.
10:53James, it seems like when I was watching, well, number one, oh, Cody's shot comes up big time short after
10:59that corner trying to triple out.
11:01But watching Cole, it just looks like he was overriding, like trying to get a little too aggressive.
11:08Have you seen the same thing?
11:09No, I completely agree. And if you look at his body language now, this is what I said in the
11:13opening show, like composure.
11:15Right now, he's just kind of letting things happen. He's not going to push it.
11:18As you mentioned earlier, it was a little bit unlike Cole Davies, and you saw a few of those mistakes.
11:23But I think he understands there's three races. He needs to just try to get up as high as he
11:27can, and he'll still have a shot at this overall.
11:29Big swing in the points, though, in the favor of Hamaka.
11:3219 down coming in, points as they run right now. Hamaka would shave that to 10.
11:36That's how important it is with two more races to go this afternoon, as James just said.
11:40Yeah, and that's the beauty of the Triple Crown.
11:43Could you imagine if this was just a regular format?
11:46You know, this would be a big blow to Cole Davies' points lead that he has, and the 10 of
11:53Hamaka would insert himself back in.
11:55So this is kind of a blessing in disguise, if you think about it from Cole, because he's got two
12:00more races to redeem himself.
12:01The 25-year-old from Bainbridge, Pennsylvania, will be in Philly next week, by the way.
12:06But this has been just what the Supercross doctor ordered.
12:10How about that? Race one.
12:12It's victory to Seth Hamaka.
12:14Meanwhile, Cole Davies has got his way into the top five.
12:16Pass Cody Shock.
12:18Thrasher gets second.
12:19Benek third.
12:21Landon Gordon fourth.
12:22And then Cole Davies, the top five.
12:25He had to work hard for that, but well done, Seth Hamaka.
12:28After crashing multiple times in the main event last weekend in Nashville, and then being penalized two positions for short
12:36-cutting the track,
12:37he's responded in the most emphatic way.
