00:01Coming up on American Restoration.
00:03Original 1970 GTO Judge.
00:06Very cool.
00:07We want to make it just like when it rolled out of the factory in April of 1970.
00:11You know the type of work I'm going to do.
00:13Yeah, I do.
00:13It's going to look better than it ever, ever, ever did.
00:17What you got?
00:18Dad's old spark plug cleaning machine.
00:20One of the few old tools we still got left around.
00:21I want to do something with it.
00:23Here's your new spark plug cleaner.
00:25Damn it, that looks good.
00:271964 Ford Falcon.
00:29Do you want us to bring it to the scrap yard for you?
00:31No, you're going to save this for me.
00:34Yeah!
00:36Across this country, five shops are breathing new life into classic American designs.
00:42From rusted out Mustangs, to broken down Harleys, and everything in between.
00:49Each job has a story.
00:52Love these things.
00:53Woo!
00:58This is American Restoration.
01:06Hey, Wade.
01:07Hey, Bodie.
01:08Good to see you.
01:08Good to see you.
01:09Yeah, I got that 1970 GTO we were talking about on the phone.
01:13Very cool.
01:14My son Tim will get it down and we'll take a look.
01:16Awesome.
01:16Wade Kawasaki's stopping by today.
01:18He's the president of the Coker Group.
01:20They specialize in vintage wheels and tires.
01:23So they know they're classic cars.
01:26Where'd you find this?
01:27I reconnected with a buddy of mine.
01:28I went and checked out his car.
01:30Original 1970 GTO Judge.
01:33Cardinal red exterior.
01:35Cardinal red interior.
01:36Four speed trans.
01:37Wow, that's awesome.
01:39Yeah.
01:39The Pontiac GTO is considered by many the first factory issued muscle car.
01:44The Judge was a souped up limited edition.
01:46It had the special trim package.
01:48It had the bigger motor.
01:50It had the tack on the hood and the iconic rear spoiler.
01:53Get this.
01:5448,900 original miles.
01:57Really?
01:57It got in a minor fender bender and it got stored for 20 years.
02:01I got it and shipped it over here.
02:03So what do you want to do to it?
02:04We want a ground up, frame off, body off restoration on it.
02:08Okay.
02:08And make it just like when it rolled out of the Fremont factory in April of 1970.
02:12I can make it look way better.
02:14That would be great.
02:15What do you think of the interior?
02:16I mean, it really looks good inside here.
02:19What do you say we just try and clean it up?
02:20It's original.
02:21Awesome.
02:22So what does something like this cost?
02:25How about 85 grand?
02:2785?
02:29Oh, come on, Bodhi.
02:30You can't be grasping this whole situation here.
02:33That's the type of work I'm going to do.
02:34Yeah, I do.
02:34It's going to look better than it ever, ever, ever did.
02:37How about this?
02:38We're going to unveil this car at the Wheel of Antiques booth at the SEMA show.
02:43Okay.
02:43So a press conference.
02:44It'll be right up front.
02:46Big Bodhi Stroud across the front of it.
02:48All right.
02:48I mean, that's got to be worth something to you.
02:51Oh, man.
02:52Okay.
02:53Wade is the chairman of SEMA, Specialty Equipment Market Association.
02:57The largest auto trade show in the world.
03:00So to have a vehicle there, this is huge.
03:02My only problem is we only have one month until SEMA.
03:06To pull this off in a month, I'm going to have to put all my other projects on hold,
03:10and I'm going to have to just pay a ton of overtime to get this thing done.
03:14I was thinking actually more like 70.
03:2080?
03:20Dang.
03:22I'll tell you what.
03:23I'll split the difference with you.
03:2475.
03:25We'll do it right now.
03:26I'll get her done.
03:27You got it.
03:27Thanks, man.
03:28I'll pull it in and get started.
03:30All right.
03:30See ya.
03:34Hey, Mitchell.
03:36What do I got going on here?
03:37It's a judge, man.
03:39We got a 1970 GTO judge.
03:41Is that a real judge?
03:42It's a real judge.
03:43It's a real judge.
03:43That's cool.
03:44There were only about 10,000 of the judges made, which makes it worth two to three times
03:49more than a regular GTO of the same year.
03:52Pontiac made this thing a true muscle car with a 455 cubic inch V8 and road race styling.
03:58We're going to be doing it for Wade Kawasaki.
04:01Him and his son, Tim, just dropped it off.
04:03Ready for the bad news?
04:05It's got to go to SEMA.
04:07So...
04:08Okay.
04:08SEMA's a month away.
04:10We'll start tearing down all the suspension, get it down to chassis.
04:13We'll send the chassis out to powder coating.
04:15Let's get our tools.
04:17All right.
04:19Perfect.
04:23Good?
04:24Yeah.
04:24We can start by pulling the seats out.
04:27Careful pulling these things out because they are in excellent shape for a 46-year-old car.
04:32When building a show car like this, the name of the game is perfection.
04:35We got to make sure that we take extra care in keeping track of all the nuts and bolts,
04:40all the trim.
04:41We especially want to make sure that we're very gentle with the interior
04:44because it is in such great shape.
04:46People at SEMA like seeing these really wild and crazy builds,
04:49but they also appreciate seeing a classic car like this with all the factory parts
04:54brought back to 100% restoration.
04:57Come on, do those two bolts for the sway bar.
05:00It's a pretty beefy sway bar.
05:03Did it just pop off?
05:05My steering arm did, yeah.
05:10Want me to jack up on the car more so the arm goes down?
05:15Oh, never mind.
05:19Look at you, Mitchell.
05:21Take care of that.
05:24Next.
05:42There you go. What's happening, man?
05:43Hey, man. How the hell are you?
05:45I'm good.
05:46What the hell you got in your hands?
05:47Brother?
05:48Dad's old spark plug cleaning machine.
05:50One of the few old tools we've still got left around.
05:52I want to do something with it.
05:54I think we can do something.
05:55Me and Danny go way back.
05:57He helped me with my first race car.
05:59Him and my dad go back since before I was born.
06:02He's more of an uncle to me than a friend, and I'm happy to be able to work on a
06:06project for him.
06:06Yeah, this is a cool piece.
06:08I haven't seen one like this in a long time.
06:11Does it work?
06:11Yeah, it still works, but, you know, you just don't clean spark plugs no more.
06:14Yeah.
06:15Spark plugs are the part of your car that fire the fuel.
06:18When it comes in, it ignites it.
06:19As time goes on, if the fuel mixture's off or the car's not running right, they get fouled out and
06:24need to be cleaned or replaced.
06:26Spark plug cleaner's basically a small sand blaster.
06:29You'd hit him with a little bit of glass or sand, and it'd blast all the garbage off them and
06:33make them new again.
06:35Nowadays, it's cheaper just to replace them.
06:37You throw them away, put some new ones in, and away you go.
06:39This thing's probably had 5,000 plugs go through it over the years.
06:42No kidding.
06:43How old is he?
06:4455 years old.
06:45It would have been 1960, 61.
06:46Cool.
06:47You know how it was back then with all the equipment he had.
06:50We had more equipment than the Ford dealer.
06:51I know.
06:52My dad used to borrow it from you guys all the time.
06:54Yep.
06:54Yeah.
06:55Danny's dad, Charlie, was a great guy.
06:57He was an auto mechanic.
06:59He was a man's man.
07:01He loved to help people.
07:02He taught me a lot about cars.
07:04He taught me a lot about being a good person.
07:07When he passed away, it was very hard for the people that loved him, me included.
07:11It means a lot to me to be able to work on this project, give a little bit back to
07:15Danny and to Charlie without Charlie being here.
07:18Instead of it collecting dust and greasing the corner, he gets to remember his dad every time he sees it.
07:23You want to take it back to original?
07:25Oh, original look, yeah.
07:27But, you know, nobody cleans plugs anymore.
07:29Yeah.
07:29I'm going to put it in the man cave, you know?
07:31Do you have any ideas for him?
07:32I don't know.
07:33You tell me.
07:34Lamb?
07:34What?
07:35We got to do something cool.
07:36Come on.
07:37How about a radio?
07:39Yeah, yeah.
07:39That might do something.
07:40As long as I get some good old rock and roll on it.
07:42We can do that.
07:43Danny's told me many stories of working in the garage with his dad, listening to music, having a good time.
07:48Everybody that works in the garage listens to music.
07:50It's just part of something you do.
07:52Putting a stereo in this thing with an old piece of equipment that him and his dad use, I think,
07:56will make it extra special.
07:57Yeah, I think we can put a radio in here.
07:59Works for me.
08:00We're going to change the inside and make it a radio.
08:02That's cool.
08:02My dad would like something like that because it's still going to be in the garage and he's still going
08:06to be there with me.
08:07Charlie was a cool guy, man.
08:08He'd be happier doing this.
08:10Well, he'd be happier you're doing it because you know how he felt about you guys.
08:14All right, man.
08:14Thanks, man.
08:15Have a good one, bro.
08:15All right.
08:16We'll see you later.
08:16Take care.
08:23George, I want you to draw this up.
08:25All right.
08:25All right.
08:27What do you want to do?
08:28We're going to put a stereo in it.
08:30All right.
08:30And put a box here for CDs.
08:33Okay.
08:34And there's going to be a speaker mounted to the sides.
08:37I'm really excited to work on this project for Danny.
08:39Me and the guys are going to try to design something that is not just cool but functional.
08:43We're going to use a car stereo because Danny's a car guy.
08:46Put some speakers in it.
08:48CD player.
08:48We've got a holder for his CDs.
08:50It's got an MP3 player.
08:52It's probably a little modern for Danny, but we're going to try to bring him up to speed.
08:55Throw some external jacks in the back so he can plug in whatever he wants and really rock out the
08:59garage.
08:59I'll cut the face plate while you're cutting us up and then we can get this thing together.
09:03Okay, cool.
09:04We'll get going on that.
09:05All right.
09:10That makes things a little easier.
09:31I think we're ready for the boys to measure it up and start making some brackets for the radio.
09:38I got the rear end housing.
09:40I'm going to start assembling it.
09:42What happens is your transmission spins your drive shaft.
09:45The drive shaft spins a pinion.
09:47Uh-oh.
09:48Maybe we have a problem.
09:50I really don't know what is going on.
09:56Hey, guys.
09:58Hi, Tony.
09:58Hey, what's happening?
09:59I love it when my friends stop by to see what we've got going on because it gives us a
10:02chance to show off our work.
10:04Check this out.
10:05What is it?
10:05This is the green machine.
10:06The green machine, it's like our staple project.
10:09It's an environmentally friendly street rod.
10:11We just sold it to a really good owner.
10:13We're getting it all cleaned up, ready to ship out, and it's going to leave here today.
10:17This is the green machine.
10:18This is your truck?
10:18Yeah, it's pretty awesome.
10:20Holy cow.
10:21Tell me about it.
10:21It's a big black Ford 460.
10:23It runs on liquid propane.
10:24Why propane?
10:25Doesn't that cut back into power?
10:26No, actually, it's a high octane fuel, so we've got a super high horsepower engine here.
10:33We're like 550 horse, but it's next to zero emissions.
10:36Really?
10:37The green machine is a 1956 Ford F100 pickup truck.
10:40Although we wanted to make an environmentally friendly custom street rod, we also wanted to make sure that it was
10:45still going to be a classic Ford truck.
10:47And that was what we kept in mind throughout the whole build.
10:50All waterborne paint.
10:51Beautiful.
10:52The tires are even filled with nitrogen, which is a thicker molecule than air.
10:57Okay.
10:57So basically, it gives you better fuel mileage, and these tires are canola oil-based, not petroleum-based.
11:03It's not going to hurt the environment.
11:04Exactly.
11:05We've got the suicide doors.
11:06My gosh.
11:07We've got swivel seats.
11:09We've got a quick disconnect exhaust system, and we designed these cones to guide the bed back into place when
11:14the dump bed comes down.
11:15Yep.
11:15The exhaust goes right out.
11:16The exhaust tips we put in the back of these fenders here, there's lots of little things like that in
11:20this truck that just took tons and tons of time.
11:22I love that.
11:23A dump truck has to have a reverse open tailgate, so we put these custom hinges for it.
11:28Look at this.
11:29And flip the tailgate upside down.
11:30And then inside the bed, this is all handmade copper panels.
11:33Okay.
11:33And the copper is actually recycled material too, so that goes along with the environmentally friendly theme.
11:38I tell you, the craftsmanship with this is amazing.
11:40Look at this.
11:42Beautiful truck.
11:43How do you feel about hopping in with me?
11:44Go for a ride.
11:45Serious?
11:45Yeah, man.
11:46Let's do it.
11:47Alright.
11:48Tony's timing is perfect today.
11:50I'm just getting ready to test drive the Green Machine one last time before I bring it to its new
11:54owner.
11:55The Green Machine is a truck that I just love to cruise in.
11:58It's not just about the speed and the power of driving this truck.
12:01It's so much more than that.
12:03You're sitting in a rolling piece of artwork.
12:05When a project like this comes together, there's no better feeling than that.
12:09I mean, it's just a sense of accomplishment and pride.
12:14Here's a collection.
12:15Nice.
12:18Reviews.
12:19Treasures.
12:20Hey, Petey.
12:21Hello.
12:22Hey.
12:23What have we got here?
12:23A car.
12:24It's Interesting.
12:25What are we doing with it?
12:26We need to fabricate some inner framework to mount to this car so that we can hang it on the
12:32wall wall art
12:33I like it Kyle a regular customer of mine came to us with what's left of his first car
12:39Good
12:401964 Ford Falcon. Oh part of it. Holy cow
12:45Do you want us to bring it to the scrapyard for you? No, you're gonna save this for me
12:49Really? I can understand why Kyle is so attached to this car
12:53I mean not only was his first car in college
12:55I'm sure he has a lot of good memories with it
12:57But the Falcon was a really great car for Ford. They had it from 60 to 70
13:02They had the two-door the four-door the wagon. There was all varieties you could have and then in
13:071964 Ford completely redesigned the Falcon and they used all the Mustang components in there
13:12So now you got a modern looking car that also has some power
13:16So we're gonna turn Kyle's parts to his car into something that he's gonna be able to admire for the
13:21rest of his life
13:21What are you thinking? Well, you need to be able to make this thing easy to get in the truck
13:26easy to get back on the wall
13:27Sounds good. We're definitely gonna have some passion to do. All right
13:31Well, let's start cutting off some of the rot get it on a trailer get it sandblasted and start building
13:36the framework. All right, so I'm good
13:51How's that going? Pretty good, bro. It's good
13:55Finish it up real quick. I got the base plate and I'll show you how to bend that up
13:58Sounds good. Me and Jeremy are working together to turn Danny's spark plug cleaner into a stereo
14:03He's cutting some metal right now. I'm gonna show him how to bend it
14:06Even though Jeremy's been working with me for about 11 years
14:09I feel I can still teach him a few tricks that I haven't taught him and we're gonna try to
14:13teach him a few more today
14:16All set, it's all set for you, bro
14:21All we gotta do here make sure it's lined up
14:29Just use this to study it a little bit
14:34Just rock it back
14:37Okay, grab me a body spoon and a big ball peen hammer and
14:41And so just bang it along the edge
14:44The piece me and Jeremy are working on is gonna be the piece that holds the stereo and it's kind
14:48of like the dashboard of your car
14:50It's gonna hide the backside of the stereo. It's gonna be aesthetically pleasing yet useful. It's that one
15:01Okay
15:06Why don't you try to bend this last one
15:23I'm gonna put the speaker jacks in the back though. This is just so he's got something when he's not
15:33hooked up
15:34He gotcha. I'll make the top here. Jeremy's putting the speakers and the wiring in the spark plug cleaner right
15:39now
15:39I'm gonna finish up the top plate. That'll cover up all that stuff. So you don't see it
15:49Move it up just a little bit more so we can get some more sound out of these holes like
15:53that. Yep
15:54It's very important for us to get clear sound for Danny on this
15:57Jeremy's lining the speaker up perfectly with the holes that are already built in there
16:01So it's nice and clear not muffled and really gives out some good sound for him
16:07Oh
16:08Oh
16:09Oh
16:09Oh
16:10Oh
16:12Oh
16:12Oh
16:13Oh
16:13Oh
16:13Oh
16:32Oh
16:32I wanna see if we can squeeze a box in here to put CDs in for Danny
16:38He's not big into modern technology, and he's got plenty of CDs, so
16:49Okay, roughly where we gotta be we gotta cut holes for the radio for the CD box
16:55We should be all set
16:59Straight in
17:00Put your fingers
17:01Alright, that's it
17:03You like it?
17:03What's up?
17:04That does look good
17:05Oh, jeez
17:06Holy
17:15We're building this 1970 GTO judge for my buddy Wade Kawasaki, who is an expert when it comes to vintage
17:21cars
17:22He wants this thing to be at a huge trade show within the next few weeks, so we got a
17:26lot of work to do
17:27Before we send this thing out to get sandblasted, Kirk's gotta fix the door where it looks like it was
17:32damaged in the collision and was keeping it from opening and closing properly
17:35I'm gonna weld the edge to build it up where it's been mashed down right here
17:40So I'm gonna add material to build the door edge out where the gap is too big right now
17:53See how I added that quarter of an inch almost and closed that gap up so now when I grind
17:58that it'll be nice and smooth
18:11So now I have a uniform gap going all the way down. We got to make sure that we got
18:17clearance. It's not too bad
18:23I think they got the heavy end
18:25We got the GTO torn down. We got the chassis back from powder coating
18:29Now we got this huge task of getting this thing back together in a short amount of time
18:34Perfect. All right, thanks guys. Hey Mitchell
18:36Why don't you and I install the suspension and start making this thing a roller?
18:41All right
18:42I got the rear end housing. I'm gonna start assembling it
18:46You know when you get these things powder coated, they sandblast it first
18:49There's sand, there's debris, so I want to make sure I flush it real good with some cleaner
18:54Then I'll run an air hose through it, make sure it's nice and clean
18:57I put oil on all the surfaces where there might be any friction
19:00Then once I get the actual gears and bearings inside here
19:05I'll trickle a little bit over it, make sure everything spins freely
19:07And make sure that it's got plenty of lubricant in the bearings
19:11It could be really bad if you're trying to run this dry
19:13A little assembly lube
19:18Just installed the pinion
19:20What happens is your transmission spins your driveshaft
19:23Driveshaft spins the pinion
19:24Pinion spins the ring
19:26Ring spins the axles, axles spin the tires
19:30GTO is a huge muscle car and it's made up of thousands of little pieces
19:34I have to make sure that this thing gets put back together correctly
19:37Because it's got to operate smoothly
19:39So even though we're on a tight deadline
19:41I got to take my time and make sure that I get all these gears and shims in properly
19:46Putting one of these together can be pretty tricky
19:48You have everything too tight, it'll whine
19:51You have everything too loose, it'll chatter
19:55Uh oh
19:57Maybe we have a problem
19:59We have no idea why this thing is so tight right now
20:02There's something wrong
20:03I got it shim like I think it should be
20:06And this thing isn't turning
20:07That means if I put this in the car, it's not going to move
20:10So as I'm looking at it, I'm thinking I got the shims in backwards
20:14I'm going to switch these two shims, see if that cures the problem
20:24Let's see here, let's try and turn this again
20:28And no, that didn't work either
20:30So, at this point, I really don't know what is going on
20:38Mitchell, grab me a 4x4, would you?
20:41Come on over here and help me prop up this axle
20:46What seems to be the problem?
20:48We are hanging up on something
20:50Can you switch the spacers?
20:52I haven't switched the spacers, no
20:54Take my calc for a second
20:56Measure those spacers
20:57Yeah, let's measure these spacers
21:00Yeah, they're different
21:01The bigger ones should be on your left
21:04Yup, the spacers are little round rings
21:07They help keep everything centered
21:08So that you don't have too tight of clearances
21:11And it spins freely
21:12These two spacers, though they look the same
21:15Are completely different
21:16What happens if these aren't in the right place
21:19Is it puts too much pressure on the ring gear
21:22Against the pinion gear
21:23And doesn't allow it to spin freely
21:25Put that one on the left
21:26This one on the left
21:29It's going to push the gear that way
21:31Yes
21:31Had to have at least helped by a couple of thousands
21:33It's definitely different
21:35So I got this thing figured out
21:38And all's it was, was me switching the spacers
21:41They look exactly the same
21:42But one is just a small fraction bigger than the other
21:45And that made all the difference in the world
21:47This is exactly why I keep Mitchell around
21:49Because, uh, for some reason he's just got this weird aura
21:53He doesn't say much, but man, when he walks into a situation
21:57Just seems to fix itself
21:59I'll torque those down
22:00Get some silicone
22:01We'll put the cover on this thing
22:02It's ready to go in the car
22:14What are we up to?
22:15Making a door patch
22:16This corner of the door is all rotted
22:18So we're going to put a corner in
22:19Marty, who's one of my very talented metal fabricators
22:23Is going to be the lead guy on Kyle's Falcon project
22:25He's got a ton of work ahead of him
22:27This thing is rotted out
22:28It's a disaster
22:29Even though we're only doing a quarter of a car for Kyle
22:31It still has to look like it rolled right off the assembly line
22:35If not even better
22:36I'm going to talk to Marty about a couple different ideas I have
22:39Hopefully we can make this door functional on the Falcon
22:41I think the door needs to open
22:43Okay
22:44Because it would look way cooler
22:45It would, I agree
22:47That would be great
22:48Except one problem
22:49What's that?
22:50You've got one hinge
22:52Right
22:53And you have three quarters of a hinge
22:57That's what came with the door when I got it
22:59That's how he brought it to us, huh?
23:02So we've got the A-pillar, but we have nothing to join it to the door
23:05We can make that
23:06Because that's going to make this thing way cooler
23:08That would
23:09I mean, the car's going to be hanging on the wall
23:10Walk up to it, open the door
23:11Yeah
23:12Okay
23:12All right, man
23:13Okay
23:14I'll leave you alone
23:15All right, brother
23:15Later
23:16All right
23:23Since Steve wants this door to open
23:25I was going to ignore this hinge originally
23:27But now I've got to make it work
23:35And it looks like it's going to fit
23:37I can get ready to weld this thing on here
23:47That actually looks right there
23:49Grind that down
23:57I love it
23:59Let's hope Steve likes it
24:03Here's your new spark plug cleaner
24:05Oh, man, are you kidding me?
24:07Damn it, that looks good
24:15Okay, let's see how that looks
24:17Jeremy and I are finishing up the conversion on the spark plug cleaner into a stereo
24:21We're almost done
24:22Danny's on his way here
24:24Time's pressing
24:25We're going to try to get it finished up quick
24:28Go ahead and put the speaker on while I'm doing this
24:30We've taken all the dents and dings out of it
24:32Repainted it
24:33We've put the stereo in it
24:34But in the end
24:35When you close the lid
24:36It still looks like it did back in the day
24:40That was good
24:41Put a CD box in it
24:42Made in my hits list of all this weird old music
24:45Top 40 hillbilly
24:58Not bad, huh?
25:00I cleaned it really good, man
25:01Isn't that cool?
25:09Hey, what's happening, Danny?
25:10Hey, brother, what's up?
25:11How you been?
25:12How you been?
25:13I'm good, man
25:14I've known Danny and his family for my whole life
25:16They're very special to me
25:18This was a very special project for me to do to give back to them
25:22This project's always going to remind Danny of his dad
25:24They used to work in the garage
25:25They used this machine together when Danny was a little kid
25:28Plus they listened to the music in the garage
25:30It's going to be awesome
25:31I think every time he goes out and turns that thing on
25:34A little bit of happiness will come back in his life
25:37And I can't wait to see his reaction
25:40Here's your new spark plug cleaner
25:44Oh, man, are you kidding me?
25:46Damn it, that looks good
25:50That ain't the same machine
25:51Oh, yeah?
25:52No way
25:53It kept the original hammer paint
25:55It's the way it was in the garage back when Charlie was working on cars
25:58Put some new spark plugs in the rack
26:00Like, yeah, he'd had them cleaned
26:02These aren't coming out
26:03They're permanent
26:03This is a display for you, you know?
26:05Okay
26:05I had to change one of the things, though
26:08Yeah, what was that?
26:09This gauge right here
26:10Well, now
26:14Man, you're freaking kidding me, dude
26:16And there it is
26:17There's a picture of my dad
26:18When he was 16 years old and in the Navy
26:22He looks like a little kid
26:23But that was treasure like you wouldn't believe
26:26I didn't know where he even got it from
26:28It was, it just blew me away
26:30Your daughter sent that over to me
26:31God, man
26:32That's fantastic
26:33That's great
26:34Remember where you used to stick the plug and sandblast it in there?
26:37Yeah, yeah
26:38I changed that a little bit, too
26:39Check that out
26:43Dude, come on
26:47I don't know what to say
26:49It's great
26:49Charlie meant a lot to everybody
26:51Well, you meant a lot to him, too
26:53You know that
26:53Your whole family
26:55I mean, we've known you guys forever
26:58That's why I did it
26:59That's fantastic, man
27:00The other thing we changed
27:01Is on the inside
27:03Where all the goodies used to be
27:05You got a stereo now
27:06Alright, man
27:07So I can knock out some tunes
27:08That's cool
27:09I told you MP3 player and all that stuff
27:11Yeah
27:11You got ports in here
27:13Ask Alicia and Kelly
27:14They'll teach you how to use that stuff
27:15That's good
27:16I got some old tunes for you
27:17Yeah?
27:17Just your type
27:18Yeah?
27:19We're gonna kick this out
27:20I'm gonna go get you a beer
27:21Let's hear what it sounds like, man
27:22Check it out, man
27:24There we go
27:27Oh, man
27:28This sounds great
27:29I can't believe it
27:31It's perfect
27:31It's freaking perfect, dude
27:33Thank you so much
27:34Anything I can do for you
27:35You know
27:36You know
27:36You already have
27:37That's why I did this
27:38Well, it's still gonna continue on
27:40We ain't done yet
27:41Let's go get that beer
27:42Let's go get it, man
27:43Charlie, be proud of you, son
27:57We've made a lot of progress
27:59Turning the side of Kyle's Ford Falcon
28:00Into a decorative wall hanging display
28:02We need to get it up onto the wall
28:04And test it out
28:05See how it's gonna work
28:05So PD's fabricating some brackets
28:07We're gonna get them mounted on the wall
28:09Here in the shop
28:09And just try it out
28:10Let's see what we got
28:13There you have it
28:14Two wall brackets
28:17Screw that right to the wall
28:18Hang that right on
28:19Just like a picture
28:22Hey, Marty
28:23Hey, Pete
28:24I got the wall brackets made here
28:26What do you think about that?
28:28Nice and stout
28:28I just got done building the bracket with a slot
28:31Well, what do you say we see it up on the wall
28:33Before we get it to this guy's place?
28:34Alright
28:36Let's see
28:38We're about there
28:38Actually a little bit lower
28:39Lower
28:40A little bit lower
28:40There you go
28:41Hit it
28:43Well, that should do it
28:44Alright
28:45Hey, Keith
28:46Guys
28:46Joey, Alec, steal you for a minute
28:49Need some volunteers
28:50What we're gonna do is
28:52We're gonna make a test run
28:53Hanging this up on the wall
28:55There's a bracket right here
28:56With a slot cut in it
28:57It's going to slide right over a bolt
29:00Hang on
29:06I got it
29:07Okay, come back
29:10Straight in
29:11Put your fingers
29:12I'm clear
29:13It's on the rear
29:15We're gonna get a jack and a block of wood for the front
29:25Can I take that down, Pete?
29:26About two inches
29:29Alright, that's it
29:30You like it?
29:32What's up?
29:32Let's do it
29:32This is great
29:34That looks really good
29:36Holy
29:37Holy
29:38You all hook yours on first
29:43Alright, that's it
29:44You like it?
29:45What's up?
29:46Yeah
29:47That's great
29:48That looks really good
29:50Holy
29:50Holy
29:51How's the car?
29:54Hopefully you don't show up
29:55What the hell was that?
29:56Oh boy
29:57What happened?
30:00The wall mount failed
30:01Anybody get hurt?
30:03No
30:03Nobody's hurt
30:04It just hit the front bumper
30:06Chipped your floor though
30:07We were hanging the car
30:08Just to test the mounts out
30:09To make sure everything was good to go
30:11And we're just setting it up there
30:12Bracket pulled out of the wall
30:13We're turning Kyle's old Ford Falcon
30:15Into a wicked cool piece of wall art
30:17But it looks like our first test
30:19Hanging this thing on the wall
30:20Is a failure
30:21That's alright
30:22This is trial and error
30:23We've never hung a car on the wall before
30:25Now we need to design this thing
30:27So that he's never gonna have any problems with it
30:30Let's get this thing back on the table
30:32We know that we can't just whip up a couple sets of brackets quick
30:35And hang it from a particle board wall
30:37We're gonna stop wasting time
30:56The clock is ticking on this 1970 GTO Judge
30:59That we're getting ready for SEMA
31:01Wade's gonna be picking this thing up in a week
31:03We're running out of time
31:05Once we get the engine in though
31:06We can start building this thing
31:08So it's ready to pick up
31:09Here we go
31:10Going forward
31:11I'm gonna start taking her down
31:15I think we're a little too far to the passenger side
31:21There you go
31:24One of my favorite parts of the build
31:26Is when the car starts coming together
31:28Kind of like you got a puzzle scattered everywhere
31:30And you're putting the pieces together
31:31After staring at all these pieces for a while
31:34I'm starting to see where everything goes
31:35Once you see it painted
31:37From what it looked like before
31:39To starting to look like a brand new car
31:41It's pretty cool
31:42Why don't you get the jack
31:43And we'll set it on the wheels and tires
31:49It's a great tire
31:50It looks completely original
31:52How much higher do I need to go?
31:53Let me see
31:56That's actually perfect
32:00Nice
32:01It's starting to look like something
32:02Right?
32:03Looks good
32:04Put the rear brakes on
32:05Put the rear tires on
32:06We're ready to set the body on this
32:08Yeah
32:08Once we get the body on
32:09We can really start moving
32:10Cool
32:22I'm not worried about how bright it is
32:25Low amperage draws better
32:26The longevity of the bulb
32:28Kyle's coming to pick up his 64 Ford Falcon
32:31That we turned into a beautiful piece of wall art for him
32:33Marty's just putting on the finishing touches right now
32:35So it's gonna look like a classic car coming right out of the wall
32:38There we go
32:40Look at that
32:45That should work
32:50Now to hide these wires nicely
32:52There's gonna be no vibration, no movement, no rocking and rolling with this vehicle
32:57You can get away with a few sins and wiring
33:06Eh, it may work
33:09Yup, there we go
33:10That's it
33:11That's definitely it
33:12Alright
33:17Alright
33:18That looks good
33:20What's up with the trim?
33:22Why don't we work together so we don't scratch anything
33:24Brotherly love, let's do it
33:26Alright
33:28This will be our door
33:31Yup
33:31This will be your top of your fender
33:33Yup
33:36Okay
33:38There we go
33:47Alright
33:47Alright
33:47How's it look?
33:48That looks great, man
33:52That's really good
33:53Nice job, Marty
33:58Come on in, Kyle
33:59Come check this car out
34:01Where is it?
34:02Kyle was really contemplating bringing his car to the scrapyard
34:05But we brought this thing back from the edge of extinction for him
34:08I'm just excited to turn the lights on and have him see this thing for the first time
34:12Wait till you see what we did here
34:15Hey, Keith
34:16Hit the lights
34:17Wow
34:18That is unbelievable, Steve
34:20Very cool
34:21Awesome red, too
34:22Isn't that beautiful?
34:23I can't believe all the chrome
34:25It came out really nice, man
34:27We're happy with it
34:28Kyle brought us a bunch of parts to his 1964 Ford Falcon that he used to drive in college
34:33He wanted us to save his memories of this car
34:35We had a lot of fun with it
34:37I think he's gonna love this thing forever
34:38And I'm glad that we had the experience of doing this job
34:41I know you didn't care if the door worked, Kyle
34:43But this thing is so nice
34:45It just wouldn't do it justice not to have it working
34:47So we actually fixed the hinges up
34:49Made the door work
34:51Then your original windshield is in pretty bad shape
34:54Our guys tried cutting it for us
34:56But it was just no saving that thing
34:58It was a shot
34:58So we actually took pictures of the sticker that was on there
35:02Your original sticker
35:03And I had one made up
35:04So you've got your original inspection sticker on there
35:07Very nice
35:08Yep
35:09We painted your wheels
35:11Sandblast them
35:11We actually set these up so they can spin
35:13So you'll be able to walk by and spin the tires
35:16That'd be cool
35:17We made a front and rear bumper for you
35:20Had those chromed
35:21Got your original taillights all redone
35:23We actually found a trunk lid
35:25And then we modified it
35:26Made this whole side of it
35:27Teg welded a whole piece down there
35:29So you've got that 90
35:30If we didn't have this trunk on here
35:32The car would have been sitting at a huge angle
35:35And it would have been crooked to the wall
35:36We built this square tubing structure throughout the whole car
35:39And we actually notched this here
35:42So the quarter inch steel plate that you bolt onto the wall
35:45Will have a stud coming out of it
35:47That you'll slide right on
35:48I thought this was going to be an easy project
35:50Yeah
35:51I had no idea
35:52No, this was a very complicated project
35:54Wow
35:55There was just tons of thought involved with it
35:58Steve does a really awesome job
36:00I am really impressed with what he did
36:02Seeing the car again in its present condition now
36:05Really does bring back memories of when I was driving this
36:08Back in college days
36:09Awesome job
36:11I'm glad you like it
36:12Let's go figure out what's your next project
36:16We're cutting it a little close, aren't we?
36:18You wanna see it?
36:18I'm excited, I'll tell ya
36:19Hey Mitchell!
36:22Oh my gosh
36:23That is incredible
36:25Crazy, huh?
36:34The mechanical and the body work is done on this 1970 GTO Judge
36:38Now it's off to paint
36:39Alex and the guys are really going to have to hustle
36:42To get this thing done and delivered to Wade in the next few days
36:49Alex has the body up on the rotisserie so things can go much faster
36:53He's going to shoot the epoxy
36:54Which is going to seal it and keep it from rusting in the future
36:57And help the paint stick better
37:01I'm in a rush right now because we have to get it done
37:04So we can finish painting, polish, and give it to body
37:09Today is the day to paint this car
37:11Doesn't matter how long it takes
37:13This is my emergency right now
37:15This is my important thing to finish this car
37:24Primer dries quickly so once Alex gets that last coat on there
37:28He'll be ready to start painting
37:29We're going with three coats of this classic GTO Carnival Red
37:33It's an orangey reddish color
37:35Which is what this car was well known for
37:37It's going to look really good under the showroom lights at SEMA
37:46Oh yeah baby! First coat!
37:54Oh man! That's pretty damn good!
37:57Let's get this thing up on the lift
37:58The paint is dry, looks really good
38:01The chassis is ready to go
38:02We've had a meticulous build from the ground up
38:05With an impossible deadline and the end is in sight
38:08Wade's picking the car out tomorrow and taking it straight to the show
38:11Which means we're going to have to stay up all night
38:14To finish this thing by tomorrow morning
38:19Take her on out, I'll hold it just in case
38:32It'd be a bad time for an earthquake
38:41It's pretty close
38:43Yeah, go for it
38:44Let's set it down
38:49Back a little bit
38:51Up
38:52Right there
38:52If you move the back over you're going to scratch the frame with this arm over here
39:02Good, perfect
39:03Look at that
39:04Hell yeah
39:05Let's hang the doors in the trunk
39:17I think we're going to be too far over to this side
39:22You got it?
39:23Yeah
39:23Got to make sure everything's perfect
39:28Because that's what we do
39:35Hey Wade
39:35Hey Bodie
39:36How you doing man?
39:37Good
39:37My client Wade is here to pick up the judge and take it to the SEMA show
39:40I'm nervous and I'm excited
39:42I don't know what he's going to think when we unveil this
39:45There's going to be a hundred thousand people staring at this thing
39:47So I just got all kinds of emotions running through me
39:50And I hope he loves it
39:52I'm happy, I feel good about it
39:54You want to see it?
39:55I'm excited, I'll tell you
39:56Okay
39:56Well hey Mitchell
40:00Sounds good
40:00Right?
40:02Keep this thing out here
40:04Oh my gosh
40:06Amazing
40:07Wow
40:08That is incredible
