00:00Coming up on American Restoration.
00:02I think we can make some pretty good money on this.
00:04Looks like the whole frame cracked in half.
00:06What have I gotten us into?
00:08Make them like they used to.
00:09They don't make anything like they used to.
00:11This had to have been the coolest bike in the world.
00:14Holy f***, Frank.
00:15That's a 30s gas pump.
00:17This is a hell of a challenge.
00:19This thing's just too far gone.
00:21I'm in a pickle.
00:24Across this country, five shops are breathing new life into classic American designs.
00:30From rusted out Mustangs, to broken down Harleys, and everything in between.
00:38Each job has a story.
00:40Love these things.
00:42Woo!
00:45This is American Restoration.
01:00Good job.
01:01Check it out, right?
01:0359 Ford F100.
01:05Love these things.
01:07What do you think?
01:08It's nice.
01:09Where'd you get it?
01:10The junkyard.
01:11I paid six grand for this 59 F100 right around the corner at the local junkyard.
01:16I'm usually commissioned to build these for a client, but I'm going to do this one out of
01:20love and see if I can't make a dollar.
01:22It's a real good runner.
01:23Did you get it for a good deal?
01:25No.
01:26All right.
01:27At least you're honest.
01:29Looks like it's all there.
01:30It runs, obviously.
01:31It runs really good.
01:32I mean, dude.
01:33It was the original blue.
01:35The turquoise?
01:36Yeah.
01:37Nice.
01:38Definitely all original.
01:39Yeah, 1959 was a banner year for Ford.
01:43In 57, Ford did a huge body change on the F-Series, and in 59, they really exploded because
01:49that's when they came out with the 4x4.
01:50Yeah, this is a real sought-after truck for any Ford pickup fan.
01:54I think we can make some pretty good money on this.
01:56For once.
01:57For once, yeah.
01:58When Bodie opened up shop, I was the first guy he called.
02:01And I can tell you from being with him for a long time that he never turns down a challenge,
02:07even if it hurts our bottom line.
02:08Let's just put it all back to original.
02:11Let's rebuild the engine, redo the transmission.
02:13We'll put it back the same way, right?
02:15Sounds good.
02:16The bed's rusty.
02:17It's all pretty straight.
02:18Usually the beds are dented and dinged.
02:21It's not bad.
02:22It might actually have an easy project for once.
02:25They're never easy, Mitchell.
02:27Now that I just said that.
02:28Yeah, you just jinxed us.
02:29I'm really known for building these wild, crazy, one-off supercars, but in this case,
02:35I'm going to make this a full factory restoration and make this look like it just came off the
02:40factory line.
02:40I think this will seriously appeal to the classic Ford truck guys.
02:44So here's what I'm thinking.
02:45Mitchell, motor, trans, right?
02:48Start turning it down.
02:49You start working on all the little rust repair areas, the bed.
02:52That's the most important one.
02:53And then the bottom of the doors looks like it's probably going to be the next biggest thing.
02:57Cut that stuff out, patch it up.
02:58I could have $55,000 in parts alone on this thing.
03:02I've already got $6,000 into it.
03:04I'd like to make $20,000, which means I'm going to have to sell this thing for around $80,000
03:08to make a profit.
03:09Let's knock this thing out.
03:10Sounds like a plan to me.
03:11Let's do it.
03:29Hey, how are you guys doing?
03:30Hi, Andy.
03:31Yeah.
03:31I'm Gil.
03:32Nice to meet you.
03:33I'm her brother, Eric.
03:34Oh, nice to meet you.
03:35I love the anticipation of a new project.
03:37I love learning the history about the project.
03:39I love bringing it back to its former glory.
03:41Today, I have some customers bringing by a family heirloom.
03:44This is an old piece of history that they want to invest in for generations to come.
03:50Oh, it's a heavy bike.
03:52They don't make them like they used to.
03:54They don't make anything like they used to.
03:56On the phone, Gail let me know that she's been trying for years to get this bicycle restored.
04:01She also let me know she has some health issues.
04:03So we're going to restore this thing for her so her and her children can enjoy it together.
04:07This is a JC Higgins bike.
04:09Man, this thing must have been beautiful when it was new.
04:11So what's the story on this?
04:13Well, we've had this bike a long time.
04:14My dad was born in 1935.
04:17And around 1946, he wanted a new bike.
04:20You know, they were dirt farmers.
04:22They were very poor.
04:23And this bike was maybe $45, $50.
04:26His parents, there was no way they were going to get him this bike.
04:28So his older brother bought the bike for him brand new.
04:31Wow.
04:32This would be like giving a Maserati to look at nowadays.
04:34His brother, my uncle, really didn't spare any expense.
04:39In its day, I mean, this had to have been the coolest bike in the world.
04:42JC Higgins was the sporting goods line at Sears and Roebuck back in the day.
04:46These bikes they built were iconic due to their automobile-inspired designs and their wonderful functionality.
04:51I know it meant a lot to my dad.
04:52He kept it for years in his workshop up against the wall.
04:56It was rusted like this.
04:57We didn't really realize what it was.
04:59He kept it all them years, huh?
05:00It was important to him.
05:01Yeah.
05:02And then I ended up with it.
05:03And I've been trying for probably nine years to find somebody to help me.
05:06You found them.
05:09The good news is I can make this look branded just like the day he got it.
05:12Okay.
05:13All this will have to be stripped and re-chromed.
05:15The other expense is fixing all these heat-up panels here.
05:18There's a lot of hours in it.
05:20I'm guessing you're going to be around $2,500 on this bike.
05:23This bike means a lot to Gail and Eric.
05:26I want to do a top-of-the-line restoration for them.
05:29Unfortunately, the bike they brought me is really beat up.
05:32It's going to need a lot of work, which means it needs a lot of money.
05:35Do you have anything that documents this bike at all?
05:38I do.
05:38I have a picture of my dad sitting on the bike.
05:40Do you really?
05:41This is a reproduction of a family photo.
05:43Okay.
05:44It's been colorized.
05:45Somebody colored it in.
05:46Okay.
05:47Yeah, because in the picture, the bike is red.
05:49But at the bottom of the forks, the forks are blue.
05:51They didn't color in the forks.
05:52Right.
05:53Okay.
05:54So this is perfect.
05:55It had some form of a headlight that came up.
05:58It even had a mirror.
05:59Yep.
05:59A couple extra parts.
06:00I believe this goes with it.
06:02That looks like it was off the mud flap.
06:03Yeah.
06:04I'm guessing, looking at this, it probably went back here.
06:10Okay.
06:11Probably about just like that.
06:13So, yeah, this was on the bike.
06:14Okay.
06:14For sure.
06:15This sat on the bike.
06:18About like this.
06:21With this on, it showcases the pinstriping and everything.
06:25This is a very detailed bike.
06:27It's a very cool piece for sure.
06:29All right.
06:30I will get to hunting all your parts, and I will get this to you ASAP.
06:34And don't worry.
06:35It'll preserve Dad's memory the way it's supposed to.
06:37It's great, Andy.
06:38Thank you very much.
06:38You guys have a great day.
06:39Thank you so much.
06:40Thank you so much.
06:58Ready?
07:02We're starting to tear into this Ford project.
07:04First step is tear it apart and see what we've got going on inside.
07:08I want to get the motor and trans out so I can see the chassis, the engine bay, but also
07:13so I can tear down the motor.
07:14I can look at it.
07:15I can see what needs replacing.
07:17Sometimes these parts are hard to find, and it could take a while to get them.
07:20Mitchell's going to get underneath the truck, and he's going to start undoing all the trans
07:23mount, clutch linkage, all that kind of stuff.
07:26Kirk and I are going to start undoing all the wiring, get it out as quick as possible.
07:30Hey, Bodie.
07:31It's looking pretty rough down here.
07:33There might be a little more rust than you thought there was.
07:35Like bad?
07:36All the floors look pretty thin.
07:38There's some holes and some spots, and we're definitely going to have to do some patchwork.
07:43We're probably going to have to replace some sections of the frame, maybe a couple spring
07:47mounts, leaf springs themselves.
07:49There's a couple of them that are cracked in half, so it's new leafs.
07:53That's going to kill us, man.
07:54Let's just get this motor out of here.
07:56Let's, let's, one headache at a time.
07:58The more I look around, the more rust I see.
08:01The more broken pieces and deterioration.
08:05This project's definitely going to take more than what Bodie wants.
08:08You ready?
08:09Up, up and away.
08:13This motor ran so good, but now it's looking like complete .
08:15Motor's out, and I'm a little scared.
08:18It sounded, and it drove healthy, but it just looks like a mess.
08:22And all I think is, I thought this thing was a California car, but now it's sounding more
08:29like it was an East Coast car, and that's just not what you want when you're trying to
08:33make a quick flip.
08:34So this is going to be a big problem.
08:36I'm going to lose a lot of time and a lot more money than I thought to repair this truck.
08:41That's really going to kill us.
08:49I have no idea.
08:51This is getting ridiculous.
08:53This is going to be a lot of cleanup work, a lot of rot down in here.
08:57I'm going to go cry.
09:06Start taking apart the front.
09:08I'm going to take off the back wheels, then we can get everything taken down.
09:10and get sandblasted.
09:12Okay.
09:13We're tearing apart the 1940s JC Higgins bike for Gail and Eric right now.
09:17Gail expressed it was really important to her to keep as many parts original as possible,
09:21so we're taking it apart very carefully to make sure that we can save everything that
09:25we can.
09:26What is this?
09:28I think it was the generator for the headlight that's messing.
09:31It obviously rubbed on the wheel.
09:34Throw it over there and we'll get to the other stuff.
09:37There's always one screw that gets stuck.
09:43What is that, sir?
09:45It's transmission fluid and acetone.
09:47The trans fluid just seems to get in places.
09:49The acetone makes it a little bit thinner, so it'll float in there.
09:52But trans fluid works great for all kinds of things.
09:55Oh, wow.
09:58Can I see?
09:58I just don't want to part now.
10:04Look at this, dude.
10:05This didn't get all rusted up so we can check the color.
10:08Looks like they used to use in the old gas stations.
10:10In the late 40s, early 50s, they didn't have the color selection we do nowadays.
10:14Bright, bold blue like it was on this bike was on everything back then.
10:19Gas pumps, cars, advertising.
10:21Finding this original color is a big bonus for us.
10:24It lets us keep the originality of the bike and brings it truly back to the way it was.
10:49I have no idea.
10:51This is getting ridiculous.
10:52I can't get it off.
10:53I got to go see Roger at the museum anyways.
10:55I'm going to let him figure this out before I break something.
10:58I'll see you in a few.
10:58All right.
11:02We have a local expert, Roger, at the Old Spokes Museum here on Grozeal.
11:07Me and George are going to go over and see if we can get some answers to some of my
11:09questions.
11:10Hey, Roger, you around?
11:12I left the door open again.
11:15Hey, nice seeing you, man.
11:17I got a problem.
11:18I'm working on an old bike.
11:19I've got a piece here.
11:20I don't know what it is.
11:21It bolted up to the front fork.
11:23I think this rubbed on the tire, but I don't find any wires, so I don't know if it's a
11:28generator
11:28or what the hell it is.
11:30Friction wheels were used commonly on generators like this, where this rubbed against the wheel
11:39as the wheel turned.
11:40Okay.
11:41And you see the wires coming out.
11:43Yeah.
11:43That's what baffled me.
11:45You could power the taillights and the headlights and even a horn.
11:49Yeah.
11:49But this is not electrical.
11:52Yeah, I didn't even see a place where wires could go, but that's the only thing that I
11:55thought it might be.
11:56I couldn't come up with any idea what it was.
11:58I think it's some kind of noise generator.
12:00Awesome.
12:01But I've never seen one like it.
12:03I suspect there's something that's not working.
12:06Okay.
12:07Unless this just spun fast enough, whistled or something.
12:11Okay, cool.
12:12At least you figured out for me it's a noise maker, because I've been trying to figure out
12:15how I'm going to wire this to a headlight with no wires.
12:17This is really good.
12:17Well, I got one more thing, if you don't mind.
12:20Yeah.
12:20I cannot get these cranks out.
12:22I've taken many out before.
12:23I can't get these out.
12:24Is there a trick to this bike?
12:26Yeah.
12:26There's a real simple little trick.
12:27Okay.
12:28These bearing races or cones are just pressed in.
12:30Okay.
12:31Take a punch from the inside and knock that one out.
12:34Okay.
12:34Catch on this lip here.
12:36Yeah.
12:36And just tap it out, tap it around, and it'll come out.
12:38And then do the same thing on this side.
12:40Okay.
12:41And then you can slide the cones off, and then the crank will come out.
12:44So simple.
12:45Thank you so much.
12:45It's your lifesaver on this, brother.
12:47Have a good one.
12:48You too.
13:04Hey, Bob.
13:05Hey, Frank.
13:06How you doing, man?
13:07How in the world are you?
13:08I'm glad you brought these guys with you, because I got a big thing.
13:13It's something that Bob's Garage needs to take a look at.
13:15Bob and I have been friends for about 10 years or so, and I've got this creek down here,
13:21and it's become overgrown.
13:23My wife said, Frank, you've got to get down and clean the creek up, and found this piece.
13:28And that's why I called Bob over.
13:30Holy s***, Frank.
13:31Wow.
13:31Look at that thing.
13:33I hope there ain't no snakes in this side.
13:35That's a 30s gas pump.
13:37There's a door.
13:39Hopefully, the other door is underneath it.
13:41I believe it's the Gilbert and Barker.
13:43We get all kinds of projects for restoration at Bob's Garage, but we specialize in gas pumps.
13:49The Gilbert and Barker Company started in the 1800s.
13:52They're still in business today.
13:54They're one of the oldest gas pump companies in the country.
13:59This pump is in deplorable condition.
14:01That's where the challenge is.
14:04You guys know how to restore these?
14:05It's doable, but it's going to take a lot of work.
14:08It's also going to take a lot of money.
14:10I'm thinking $3,500.
14:14Is that fair?
14:16That would be a great price.
14:18This is going to be a hell of a challenge.
14:21It's a lot of rust issues, but let's see what we can do.
14:26Thanks, Bob.
14:26I appreciate it.
14:27You bet.
14:27Gary and Kirk, let's get this thing out of here.
14:30That old rusty Gilbert and Barker gas pump looks really nasty.
14:36Wait until we finish with it.
14:38It'll be a work of art.
14:40Yep.
14:45This was kind of like unearthing the dead.
14:53This door looks like the truck ran over it.
14:55Definitely smashed.
14:56This is the one that was buried underneath this pump.
14:59We've been tasked with taking this rusty, nasty gas pump and making a beautiful work of art out of it.
15:06Me and the guys are giving it the once-over to see what we have to do before we get
15:09our hands dirty.
15:10That doesn't have the inner window frame.
15:12Right.
15:13And it doesn't have the base for that stainless trim.
15:16It's going to be hard to come up with that one, too.
15:18We'll make one.
15:19And this one's bent, so that's going to be a problem.
15:21Yeah.
15:22Cyglasses are good.
15:23It's this door bothers me.
15:25That's going to take a long time.
15:26That's a lot of hammer and bodily work.
15:28But this old girl's still got good bones.
15:31This frame's in great shape.
15:32The hardest part, you're not going to be able to find the original rat that came out of this nest
15:36over here.
15:37Let's tear it down.
15:38Let's get started.
15:49This thing's just too far gone.
15:51This roll right here has to go down both sides.
15:57I've got nothing to start with.
15:59It's so flattened out.
16:01I'm going to have to get Bob to look at this.
16:05We need to do something else.
16:22We picked up this 59 F100 at the scrapyard, and we're going to put this thing back to factory specs.
16:27We've got to start tearing this thing down, get the cab off, the bed off, start looking at the chassis,
16:33really get down to the bones of this thing.
16:39This is going to be a lot of cleanup work.
16:41A lot of rot down in here.
16:43It was definitely road hard.
16:44This isn't even the right springs.
16:46Somebody put these in.
16:47Oh, man.
16:49What have I gotten us into?
16:50Now that we've got this thing torn down and I see how bad it really is, I'm picturing the six
16:55grand I just spent, the money I'm going to have to put into it.
16:58All I'm starting to see is dollar signs and time going out the window.
17:02It's just going to be a lot more man hours than I planned on.
17:04Mitch will start repairing the frame.
17:06I'll see what I can do about finding some new suspension.
17:08Kirk, pull all this out of here, and let's just start cleaning it up.
17:13You know, I was hoping to pocket 20 grand off this build, but every time I see something, something bad,
17:19something wrong with this thing, I see that profit margin dropping right out of the gate.
17:24It's not too positive.
17:27Nothing we can do about it.
17:29No sense crying over it.
17:30Yeah.
17:30Yeah.
17:31Actually, I'm going to go cry.
17:38Let's get this thing off of here.
17:42Damn, that f***ing hurt.
17:49I'm in a pickle.
17:50I'm in a pickle, and I need a door.
17:53See if you can find us a door.
17:54We've been working on this 1935 gas pump that we found in the woods near our client Frank's house.
18:01One of the doors is way beyond repair, but we got a big stockpile of used parts.
18:06We'll find one that fits.
18:08I see one that's been cut down a bit.
18:09You want to take a look at that one?
18:10Let's see what it is.
18:11Don't scratch it easy.
18:13I think we can probably cut some off of the other door and extend that one a little bit.
18:18You're going to have to do some serious welding if we do that.
18:21We're going to take one door, cut it in half, raise it together, and make it fit.
18:28The hole itself matches up good here, but we don't have a good match as far as this piece and
18:34this piece.
18:34I'll cut it in two.
18:35We'll come over to this one, and I'll cut this one off and make it line up.
18:39It should match up well.
18:41Get all the cut lines where you need them, and I'll check it out and get it all stitched up
18:44and see what we've got.
18:45All right.
18:46All right.
18:46Let's do it.
18:47Our door is too short, so we're going to have to take the top off of the other door and
18:53weld it on to make the correct dimension that we need for this pump.
18:58What I've done with these cuts has to line up perfectly.
19:01If it doesn't, it's going to throw the door off as far as being straight up and down, so everything
19:08has to be right.
19:11Job well done on that.
19:13It's not too bad.
19:14Not too bad.
19:14No, that came out a lot better than I was anticipating, actually.
19:18Well, I'll get her stitched up, and I'll let you know when I've got some plates on there, and you
19:21can tell me what you think.
19:22All right.
19:23Cool, cool.
19:24Getting the bones of this pump put together straightened out is the most important part of this whole build, and
19:29with any restoration, once that structure is complete and sound and exactly where you want it, everything else can fall
19:35into place.
19:35Without this, a nice paint job is worthless if it's crooked.
19:39And I am satisfied with that one.
19:43We have to get the rust off of here so that we can get an epoxy primer to stick.
19:49If it's not clean, it's just going to be flaking off later.
19:52And I do it by hand because it's easier to get into all the little nooks and crannies here.
19:59It's real hard to do if you're trying to use a sander or something like that.
20:03I found that the wire brush works very well.
20:20We're building this F-100, and I'm hoping to flip it to a serious Ford connoisseur, which means we've got
20:26to go through the engine, and we've got to make this thing back to factory specs.
20:29All I've seen so far, there's a lot of rust and sludge looking at this thing, I don't believe that
20:35this engine would have ran much longer.
20:39Damn it.
20:40Guess we should have drained the blocks first, huh?
20:42Well, glad I was over here.
20:53Is that from you?
20:56No.
20:57That's crazy, dude.
20:59It's a diamond.
21:00It looks like it's hammered on, too.
21:02Looks like it's been in there for a while.
21:04A cylinder?
21:05That is the craziest thing I've ever seen.
21:07Mitchell just found a diamond in this cylinder.
21:09Looks like it's been in there for, like, a long time.
21:13Just made some money back, Mitchell.
21:15Look at that.
21:19These are all corroded.
21:22All the water channels were filling up with rust.
21:25Some of them were almost closed shut, so it wouldn't have lasted much longer if someone was running straight water
21:31in it.
21:32Metal doesn't like straight water.
21:33You want to put antifreeze in because this is what happens.
21:37It starts rusting.
21:38You just can't do it.
21:39Want to give me something to knock these pistons out?
21:54We've completely gutted the engine.
21:56We got the pistons out, cam out, lifters, whole valve train.
22:00Now we're just going to start cleaning it up.
22:03It's really important that we keep this engine original just to keep the value up on this vehicle.
22:08Putting the 20-plus hours into this thing to bring it back to life
22:12could mean the difference between making thousands of dollars and making nothing.
22:17All right, Mitchell, let's call it a day.
22:31Okay, we want this bike to be as original as possible, right down to this design on the fork.
22:37So we're going to make us a little stencil here.
22:40So when it's finished, it's going to be just like when her dad had it brand new.
22:45One of the signatures of JC Higgins' bikes was the elaborate paint schemes and especially the handpin striping.
22:52George is going to take a pattern off the forks right now so that he can get it just the
22:56way it was the day it was new.
23:07There's our tracing.
23:12Now that George has the tracing down on the forks, I can get it in the booth, paint the white
23:16paint.
23:17Once the paint dries, I can tape off all the white elements of the paint scheme, get it back in
23:22the booth, and paint it blue.
23:25All right, we're going to set the stripes up there and get a rough measurement as to where they need
23:29to be.
23:30A little bit to an inch.
23:33The last thing we want to do is to mess this up.
23:36We've got a lot riding on this bike.
23:43We're going to do some pinstriping on the forks here.
23:46We're going to use some tape as a guide so I can keep my gap between the stripes the same
23:51all the way down.
23:53Give us a little paint on the brush.
23:56And away we go.
23:58Left hand is the steady.
24:00The right hand runs along the front edge of the fork.
24:03Steady stroke.
24:05Eyeballing the gap between the brush and the white all the way.
24:11Lift at the end.
24:12And don't stop and lift.
24:15You keep going when you lift.
24:17That way you get a nice clean edge.
24:19You have to touch up.
24:20You go into the stripe moving first before you set the brush down.
24:24Then that way you don't get an overlap where you have to wipe it off and totally redo it again.
24:31Nice and clean.
24:34And that's it.
24:41This isn't the original color, is it?
24:43It is.
24:44And the tires.
24:45I don't know, Bodie.
24:47Oh, man.
24:48I want that truck really bad.
24:50But I'm not going to let Bodie know how bad I want that thing.
25:00When a gas pump comes in in as terrible a condition as that one was, we get to use our
25:05imagination by using out-of-date, out-of-business regional brands.
25:10That had very colorful logos or very colorful pumps.
25:15Right now I'm getting these sunray gasoline decals put on this pump.
25:20If I screw these decals up, I could definitely set us back a while because then we would have to
25:24reorder new vinyl and new stickers and possibly damage the paint getting it off.
25:28And it would definitely be a nightmare to have to backtrack that much.
25:32Got a little product here that's mainly soap and water.
25:37It allows us to move this sticker around a little bit just in case it's not perfect.
25:44I've got a little bit of wiggle room, and I'm not just stuck within one spot.
25:52Once you get the paper off the back, it's no holds.
25:59Anything can stick to it.
26:00Anything can go wrong at this point.
26:02Right now I'm just removing the air bubbles from underneath the vinyl.
26:11That looks good, Kurt.
26:12Like that?
26:13Yep, can we get that?
26:14Yeah.
26:15Even though this pump is purely decorative, we like to be as authentic as possible.
26:19So we searched out the exact computer for this pump so it would be period correct for the 1930s.
26:27Well, this is it.
26:29We finally found it.
26:30It's not rusted up like most of them are.
26:32No, it's in reasonably good conditions.
26:35Got all the eyelids.
26:37Mm-hmm.
26:38Good shape.
26:39Yep.
26:39And the wheels aren't all smashed up.
26:42This is great.
26:42Awesome.
26:43And let's play with this just a second here.
26:47Ah.
27:00We're making great headway on the 59 Ford F100, and I'm hoping to flip it to a guy that I
27:05just reached out to that's a vintage Ford collector.
27:07When we just finished rebuilding the engine, Mitchell's going to start prepping the chassis and get it ready to send
27:12out to get powder coated.
27:14I'm starting to strip the frame, we're going to get the suspension off, we're going to powder coat the chassis.
27:19We're going to have to replace these springs so we can clean it all up and put it back together.
27:22Oh, that's not good.
27:25At one point, this whole frame was cut almost two-thirds of the way up.
27:30This thing could be completely tweaked.
27:33That's scary.
27:35Hey, buddy.
27:36Looks like the whole frame cracked in half.
27:38I mean, look, it's two-thirds of the way up and all the way through the bottom.
27:43Holy crap.
27:44Looks like my eight-year-old was here welding this thing.
27:46Mitchell found the frame was cracked at one point, and someone did a real sloppy repair job.
27:51We have to be careful because these chassis were riveted back in the day.
27:55These have a tendency to shift.
27:58We don't want to put all this time, effort, money into this thing, and it drives down the road sideways.
28:04We're going to have to go deeper, and I'm going to have to make it correct.
28:07Continue getting all the suspension out, and then come over here and start grinding that weld out.
28:12I'll call Kirk over, and we'll get this cab off.
28:26Let's get this thing off of here.
28:32It was caught on the bottom.
28:33It hurt.
28:42It hurt.
28:46Perfect.
28:48Okay, ready?
28:49Everybody at once.
28:50Go.
28:59Perfect.
29:00Mitchell, you want to go ahead and start fixing that chassis?
29:03All right.
29:13It's a good thing we did this because that weld didn't even penetrate.
29:17It was just laying right on top.
29:18I'm surprised it didn't re-crack completely apart.
29:21I'll weld it up good this time.
29:34All right.
29:35Got that pretty smooth.
29:36Now I can put a plate here, just for some reassurance.
29:45Try to keep this a little small just so it didn't stand out so much.
29:48It'll be enough to grab good metal from both sides of where the crack was, and help hold this frame
29:53together.
30:04All right.
30:05There she is.
30:06That should hold her for many, many years to come.
30:11Are you ready for this?
30:12I don't want to keep you waiting any longer.
30:16Holy mackerel, Bob.
30:23You got it?
30:25I'm going to stick this hose on while you're doing that.
30:27All right.
30:28I'm really happy about how this pump came together.
30:31And with a few more finishing touches, Frank is going to go bananas.
30:43All right.
30:44That's it, Richter.
30:44I can't wait to see Frank's face when he sees the restoration we've done on that nasty gas pump that
30:51we found in his yard.
30:52Come on.
30:53I don't want to keep you waiting any longer.
30:59Holy mackerel, Bob.
31:01That can't be it.
31:02Yeah, that's it.
31:04No way.
31:04Yes, that's it.
31:05The rusty thing we found in the woods.
31:08Yes, sir.
31:09Bob, that's unbelievable.
31:10I love it.
31:11This is a 1938 Gilbert and Barker Model 96C.
31:16That's a great pump.
31:18And you remember how rotten it was.
31:20No kidding.
31:22That flat door that was underneath.
31:24It was completely crushed.
31:26It was as flat as a pancake.
31:27What we did was we cut it in half and welded two doors together to make one.
31:31Wow.
31:32Here's the reset crank.
31:33That makes the numbers go around and reset to zero.
31:36Look here.
31:38That's the original working nozzle.
31:41Wow.
31:41And this is the icing on the cake.
31:45Oh, man.
31:45It's got lights.
31:46Absolutely.
31:47The whole face lights up.
31:49Add glass lights up.
31:50Globe lights up.
31:51That is beautiful, Bob.
31:52This pump really stands out.
31:54It's beautiful.
31:55I can't believe that that pump is the one that Bob got out of the trees at my house.
32:00It's fantastic.
32:01And we stayed under your budget of $3,500.
32:04That's awesome.
32:05Thanks, Bob.
32:06We'll get you loaded up.
32:20Me and the guys have been working on the F-100 for six weeks, getting it ready for showroom condition.
32:25Between the rust and the crack frame, it was a lot more than I anticipated, and I'm hoping that this
32:30doesn't affect the bottom line.
32:31It's time for one last final look down before I try and sell this thing.
32:41Hey, hey, hey, hey.
32:44Look at that bad boy.
32:46Wow.
32:50That thing looks bad.
32:52Like ride right there.
32:56The guys did a great job on the paint, the body work.
32:59The thing looks amazing.
33:01I think a diehard Ford truck enthusiast is just going to go bananas over this thing.
33:06I mean, it is back to 100% full restoration.
33:09Let's throw one quick final detail on it because the guy is going to be here any minute.
33:15All right.
33:15I got Terry coming down to look at this thing.
33:17He's a huge Ford truck enthusiast.
33:19I got him on the phone, and I knew he was going to bite on it as soon as he
33:23heard about it.
33:25I truly think I'll get top dollar for this thing.
33:27I'm hoping to pull in about 90 because God knows we have it in it.
33:32If I walk away with around 80, I'll be happy.
33:35We'll see what happens.
33:36Good to see you, man.
33:37Thanks for the call.
33:38Here she is.
33:39Looks like you've done another good job like you always do.
33:43I'm a Ford F-100 aficionado, and I'm a stickler about originality.
33:48I want everything to be like it was in the year that it was made and prestige.
33:54Right off the bat, there's a few things that pop out to me.
33:57This isn't the original color, is it?
34:00It is.
34:00Seems to be a lot brighter.
34:02It's just got more of a shine.
34:04It is the factory color.
34:05I've been through this with Terry before.
34:07He likes to play hardball.
34:08He's looked at this thing for 10 seconds, and he's already picking it apart.
34:11Did you lift this?
34:13No.
34:13The springs on it were worn out.
34:15We just put all new springs and everything.
34:17This is what the factory stance looked like.
34:20This seems like it's high to me.
34:22And the tires, were they knobbies like this?
34:26This is the four-wheel drive package.
34:27They came with a similar tire.
34:29The interior is as original as it gets.
34:33We even put the spotlight back in it.
34:36When we removed the paint, there was a hole where they had welded it up.
34:39So we found an original spotlight and put it back in.
34:42All the knobs are factory.
34:43We've cleaned everything up.
34:45This thing is exactly like you just drove it off the showroom floor back in 59.
34:49Everything you put in here, you couldn't get a new knob for the four-wheel shifter?
34:52No.
34:53I thought it kind of added to it because it's the original knobs.
34:56You know what I mean?
34:57And how many hands have actually held those knobs?
34:59That's pretty cool, I think.
35:01Want to look at the engine?
35:02Yeah, let's check it out.
35:07We put it back completely original.
35:10We ceramic-coated the exhaust inside and out.
35:12These things were famous for heat issues.
35:15Did it come with a power booster like this?
35:17This truck actually came with the power package, yes.
35:19I don't know, let's look at the back end here.
35:22All in all, the truck is nice.
35:27Bodie did a fabulous job on it.
35:29I want that truck really bad.
35:32But I'm not going to let Bodie know how bad I want that thing.
35:35Yeah, I don't know, Bodie.
35:39I'll offer you $50,000.
35:41$50,000?
35:42Yeah.
35:44Oh, man.
35:45I can't let it go for $50,000.
35:47No way.
35:48I've got around 600 man-hours in this thing, close to $40,000 in parts.
35:52On top of what I've sunk into this Ford, I've got to make at least $10,000 to make this
35:56thing worth my while.
35:57Terry knows he's looking at a classic restoration of a 1959 Ford F-100 pickup truck.
36:03Right now, he's just low-balling me at $50,000.
36:06$80,000.
36:07I can't go lower than $80,000.
36:09I can't.
36:09You know my work.
36:10You know what I put into it.
36:11And you know that, I mean, this thing is better than showroom condition.
36:16$65,000.
36:18$75,000.
36:19$75,000.
36:20Take it or leave it.
36:21Take it or leave it.
36:23That's a fair price for this truck.
36:26All right, dude.
36:28$75,000.
36:29Ha-ha!
36:30$75,000.
36:31Thanks, Terry.
36:32I appreciate it.
36:33Thank you, man.
36:34I know I'm pretty tough on Bodhi, maybe tougher than some of his other customers, but I know
36:39what I like and what I want.
36:41That truck is beautiful.
36:42I'm very happy.
36:44Let's take her for a drive.
36:45Hell yeah.
36:46All right.
36:46Terry keeps a cool poker face, but he knows his F-100s, which is why I know he'd go for
36:51this
36:51one.
36:52I'm pretty cool with $75,000.
36:54I make enough to keep the lights on.
37:04Come on in, guys.
37:06A while back, you brought me a bike.
37:07I'm in pretty rough shape.
37:08We put our heart and soul into this.
37:10Come on, guys.
37:10Bring it out here.
37:14That's amazing.
37:24Come on in, guys.
37:26We finished the JC Higgins bike.
37:28It has turned out beautifully.
37:30Sadly, I received a call the other day that Gail lost her fight with her illness.
37:34This project was very close to Gail's heart, and today her family's here to receive it,
37:39and hopefully they will cherish it the way she would have.
37:42Well, Eric, a while back, you brought me a bike.
37:45In pretty rough shape.
37:46I think it looks a lot different now.
37:48We really tried to give you exactly what you asked for.
37:50Great.
37:51It was a bike that my dad had as a child.
37:53His brother had bought for him, and we wanted to get it restored and hopefully back to original
37:58condition.
37:59I would mean the world to Gail to be able to be here.
38:03She was really excited to pass this on to her boys and have something that was my dad's
38:08go on to them.
38:09So I'm excited to be here with her husband, Ron, and her youngest son, Calvin, and my brother,
38:14Doug, to be able to see the finished product.
38:17We put our heart and soul into this to make sure that you got this and got it the way
38:20you
38:20wanted it.
38:21Great.
38:21So without further ado, I'm going to have them bring it out and let you see it after all
38:24these years.
38:25Come on, guys.
38:26Bring it out here.
38:28Oh, wow.
38:29That's amazing.
38:30That can't be the same bike.
38:32Unbelievable.
38:34Like, it just rolled off the factory floor.
38:37When Andy's crew wheeled it around the bench, I couldn't believe it.
38:40I didn't expect anything that nice.
38:42I feel like my dad must have felt when my uncle presented it to him.
38:46It was pretty exciting.
38:47Most of it we kept original.
38:49We got all the rust off it.
38:51We saved it.
38:52The spokes are the right spokes for it.
38:54The handle grips are the right grips for it.
38:57Handlebars are the handlebars that he held driving down the road.
39:00The body work was beat up bad.
39:03Jeremy spent hours and hours smoothing that out and doing a beautiful job.
39:07The pedals were gone, but the rubber wasn't.
39:10So the part that his feet were touching, they were on there.
39:13That's awesome.
39:14The mud flap, that's the award that he had.
39:16We polished it.
39:17George filled in the laddering the way it was.
39:19The headlight works.
39:22Yeah.
39:22Cool.
39:23The horn...
39:26...works.
39:27All this is hand-lettered.
39:28George takes great pride in his work and it shows.
39:31I hope that this is everything you wanted.
39:33Yeah, it is and more.
39:34We have one more thing for you.
39:36We had some parts like the pedals.
39:37I changed out the metal.
39:39Uh-huh.
39:39The old siren.
39:40A few other things that I'd like to show you.
39:42Sure.
39:43If you'll bring that over, George.
39:46I made this up to go with the bike for you guys.
39:48Well, that's all the parts that came off that bike.
39:54Trying to get this restored has been an ongoing project.
39:57I had a sister who pursued it at one point and she passed away.
40:01And Gail picked up the baton and ran with it.
40:03But unfortunately, she couldn't be with us today.
40:07The shadow box that these guys did, it was such a nice tribute.
40:10Another touch of class from these guys.
40:13It's amazing.
40:15Beautiful.
40:16You're welcome.
40:17Nice job.
40:18You can have part of your family's history back.
40:22That's a nice touch.
40:23Very, very nice.
40:24Thank you for doing that.
40:26Just so you know, we all became very emotionally involved in this.
40:31And we've all decided to donate our time and give you the bike free of charge.
40:36That's amazing.
40:37Calvin, would you end up with riding it?
40:40I will.
40:40Awesome.
40:41We'll get this thing outside.
40:4570 years ago, a young man bought his little brother a bicycle.
40:48That little brother's grandson is going to get to ride that bike today after we've restored it.
40:53This project was more than a restoration.
40:55It was about family bonds and togetherness.
40:58It pulled at our heartstrings.
41:00And now we're going to get to see him ride this thing.
41:15Well, sir, your mount is ready.
41:19Give it a whirl, Calvin.
41:26It was great to see Calvin on the bike.
41:29He resembles my dad a lot in size and stature and is almost like a flashback.
41:41Nice job, Calvin.
41:42All right.
41:42Andy, thank you very much.
41:44Thank you, sir.
41:45Thank you for letting me bring back the history of your family.
41:47You're Andy?
41:48Yep.
41:49I'll give you a hand loading this thing up and let you guys get home and enjoy this.
41:52We're anxious to show it off.
41:56We're anxious to show it off and let you guys get home and enjoy this.
