00:00Coming up on American Restoration.
00:02Hey, pal, what's up?
00:03I'm getting ready for you to ride it, man.
00:04How much time have we got to do this in?
00:06Including today, three days.
00:09Put these wheels together, Petey.
00:11It's so old.
00:12Actually, a really dangerous setup.
00:15They've been known to kill people.
00:16So you're thinking a 67 Mustang, huh?
00:19Yeah, I love the Eleanor, the whole Gone in 60 Seconds.
00:22But I want to Bodie fight it.
00:24Okay, right on it.
00:30Across this country, five shops are breathing new life into classic American designs.
00:37From rusted out Mustangs, to broken down Harleys, and everything in between.
00:44Each job has a story.
00:46Love these things.
00:48Woo!
00:51This is American Restoration.
01:16What are you doing?
01:18Got ourselves a Mustang!
01:22Not long ago, I got a call from Dan Reynolds, lead singer of the Grammy-winning rock band Imagine Dragons.
01:28He's looking for a modernized version of a 67 Mustang Fastback.
01:32I love the Eleanor from the whole Gone in 60 Seconds.
01:35Yeah.
01:36This is kind of my starting ground, but I want to Bodie fight it.
01:39Okay, right on it.
01:41Crazy is good.
01:41Crazy is good, so the crazier the better.
01:44He wants this thing done by the time him and his band get back from his European tour,
01:48which only gives us four months to completely go through this thing and totally customize it.
01:53And he wants it to look like the Eleanor, you said?
01:56Yeah.
01:56Maybe give it a, you know, a little bit of our touch.
01:59Eleanor was the name given to the custom Mustang in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds.
02:03Both the old version with Steve McQueen and the new version with Nicolas Cage.
02:07There's a lot of changes that make this car what it is.
02:10A new hood with a new hood scoop, a new bumper.
02:14You got new grills.
02:15You got more headlights up front.
02:17On Dan's build, we're only using the Eleanor as a base model.
02:20He's given me his input on what he wants, but he's also allowing me to be creative, which
02:26I absolutely love.
02:27This is a good find.
02:28These fastbacks are hard to come by.
02:30I think it's in great shape.
02:31It's probably the most solid 67 Mustang we're going to find in California.
02:35The moldings all look pretty good.
02:37Yep.
02:37I was looking at how they fit around the windows.
02:39Everything fits really nice.
02:41Door gaps are good.
02:42As nice as this Mustang is, we still got to tear it down and do a frame-up restoration.
02:46The motor I'm thinking about is a supercharged Roush 5.0 Coyote engine, 630 horsepower.
02:53The factory frame won't handle it, so I'm going to have to rip that out.
02:56I'm going to have to build a custom chassis, new suspension, disc brakes front and rear,
03:01put the new wheels.
03:02So we got tons of improvements we got to make to this car.
03:06I'd say we have Kirk make some stuff out of metal.
03:09That way it's not all fiberglass.
03:10Make it a little bit different than everybody else.
03:12Put in a new motor and trans and make this thing run like a brand new car.
03:17It'd be awesome.
03:18Pull her in her spot and just start tearing it down.
03:20Let's start by ripping out the motor, the trans, all the front suspension.
03:24Let's cut out all this chassis, these inner fenders, shock towers, and let's start cutting
03:29frame rails out.
03:30We'll sandblast it, take a look at what we got, and just start putting her back together.
03:40A bigger motor means we need more space.
03:43To make more space, we're going to have to move the firewall back.
03:47The firewall is what separates the passenger and the driver cabin from the engine bay.
03:53Hopefully moving the firewall back is going to create the space we need, and that's why
03:57I got Kirk spearheading this to get this done.
03:59I think we want to cut this hump out right around here.
04:03We'll make it flat.
04:04It's going to make it easy to square up.
04:06You know how our frame rails go in there?
04:08You need me to get these out of the way?
04:10Yeah, you can get those out of the way.
04:11Go ahead and start fabricating a piece and putting it in here.
04:15All right?
04:15Fantastic.
04:16Cool.
04:25There's two pieces of floor in here.
04:27You don't really know why that's there.
04:29They took a whole section of a Mustang floorboard and stuck it on the inside.
04:34It's not supposed to be like that.
04:36So there's like a gap, and people think like Bondo and glue and stuff can hold a car together.
04:49Kirk's cutting a piece of sheet metal to fill in a hole on the firewall.
04:52Want him to get it as close as possible.
04:54Well, that way there's not much grinding work.
04:56Get it tacked in there.
04:58Then we'll finish up the chassis, and we'll be able to figure out where we're at.
05:05How's it going, man?
05:07Got it tacked up.
05:09Yeah?
05:09I think we're looking pretty good.
05:11Awesome.
05:11That looks a lot better.
05:13Just gained three inches of room.
05:15That way we can get the motor back as far as possible.
05:17Looks good, man.
05:30Hey, pal.
05:31What's up?
05:31Crockers are what's up.
05:33Today we're restoring a 1937 Hemi Head Crocker.
05:36Mind you, only 26 Hemi Head Crockers were ever built.
05:39Now, every year at Wheels Through Time near a season's end, we start and run some of the rarest bikes
05:44in the world.
05:45This year, we chose the Crockers.
05:47Bob and I are going to run not one Crocker, but two Crockers, if I can get this machine rebuilt.
05:54I'm getting ready for you to ride it, man.
05:56It's our goal at Wheels Through Time to make sure all of these motorcycles run.
05:59No matter how rare or how old or how valuable, it's an important component to the living legacy of these
06:04machines.
06:05People will come far and wide to hear this machine run, and it's my job to deliver.
06:10This year, we're going to start the two Crocker motorcycles.
06:13Here, jump right in here.
06:14Give me a second.
06:15Yeah, you get to ride.
06:16I can't ride both of them.
06:17Here, kick that thing over, will you?
06:19I bought the Hemi Crocker from an old pal of mine in California over 25 years ago, and I rode
06:23it quite a bit.
06:24And when it quit running so well, I decided I better take it apart, and that was many years ago.
06:28Now, I've decided now is the time to put the Hemi back together.
06:32In 1936, Al Crocker developed the twin, and only a few were built.
06:36Look what he did with these.
06:37I mean, this is art deco at its best.
06:40The Hemi Crocker was truly a groundbreaking motorcycle.
06:43Back in 1936, when the overhead valve Harley was making 30 horsepower, Al Crocker's machine were making 50.
06:49At World War II, Al quit building his motorcycles in Los Angeles and went on to producing aircraft parts for
06:55the industry.
06:56Every Crocker today is rare, valuable, and hard to find.
07:00We've got a lot of work to do.
07:02Parts to clean, heads to put on it when they get back.
07:04I've got to build a carburetor.
07:06I've got to put the chain on it.
07:07How much time have we got to do this in?
07:09Including today, three days.
07:13Let's go.
07:14Come on.
07:14Let's go.
07:15God, this thing is filthy.
07:17There's only three days left before our big celebration at Wheels Through Time, and I've got to get this Hemi
07:21Crocker running.
07:22But there's lots of work to do.
07:24Engine assembly, tank assembly, and I've got to get it completely tuned from front to back.
07:29Also, there's parts I sourced that aren't here yet.
07:31Any delay in those parts in this project could be a total dud.
07:34Hand me that carb there, please.
07:37Oh, yeah.
07:38The Crocker carb.
07:39I love it.
07:41Got it?
07:42I got it.
07:45Okay.
07:46That's pretty goofy.
07:48Look at that.
07:48Oh, my.
07:49Oh, man.
07:50Look at the rust.
07:51I can't see it.
07:52Look at that.
07:53Spray coming out?
07:54Yeah, it didn't break.
07:57That's how you do it.
07:58Look at that.
07:59Look.
07:59Think it's been sitting for a while?
08:01I don't think so.
08:01The white powder in the carburetor's corrosion caused from it sitting too long with no gas.
08:06If I try to run that carburetor with corrosion, it'll clog up your engine faster than you could say internal
08:11combustion.
08:12What I've got to do is clean this car from front to back, top to bottom, in order for the
08:17Crocker to run at its best.
08:18It's got to be put together with absolute precision.
08:22There's no mistakes on the carburetor.
08:24They're not very forgiving.
08:26The carburetor is what's called a mixer that mixes air and gasoline into a vapor.
08:33The vapor is a very explosive combination, and that is what makes all the explosions in your engine.
08:39It's not the gasoline that explodes.
08:40It's the mixture or the vapor.
08:43Now, the little screws in the carburetor, these little guys right here, these are what make the mixture,
08:49and these actually allow certain amounts of that fuel to mix with the air that's passing through the carburetor at
08:54a high rate of speed.
08:55This little guy right here, that opens and closes and opens and closes, and that allows air and fuel into
09:03your engine,
09:03and the wider you go, the faster you go.
09:06So, having that immense amount of just crap and crud, this carburetor was long overdue for a good cleanup.
09:16I got your float done, pal.
09:18Clean as a whistle.
09:19Check this.
09:22Beautiful.
09:23Yeah, man.
09:23And a piece of resistance?
09:25Nice.
09:26Hey, do me a favor.
09:27Go up the front and check and see if those heads are in.
09:29Got it.
09:30I'm more than worried.
09:31If these heads don't get back, we're screwed.
09:38Keep on coming.
09:39Bring her on in.
09:40Come down.
09:41Wait, wait, wait, wait.
09:42Wait.
09:43What's the matter?
09:48What's up, boss?
09:49You know what an Isata fracchini is?
09:52Fracchini?
09:53It's a pizza, isn't it?
09:54Yeah, it's not a pizza.
09:55It's a very rare Italian classic car, and Alan just bought it, and it needs some help, so we've got
10:02to go get it.
10:03Alan is a regular client of ours.
10:05Besides being the donut king of New York, he's also an avid classic car collector.
10:10Now, this particular car is not just a classic car.
10:13It's a 1924 Isata fracchini Tipo 8A, and it's extremely rare.
10:19It was basically the competitor of the Duesenberg, and it's tiny.
10:23You know what I mean?
10:23Big cars.
10:24They were really sought-after cars.
10:26The company started in 1900 in Milan.
10:28The first Isata was a four-cylinder, 24-horsepower car that the founder of the company, Vincenzo Fraschini, drove in
10:38car races.
10:39The Italian manufacturer, Isata Fraschini, marketed these cars to Hollywood stars and American aristocrats.
10:46But, ironically, they only built the chassis and engines for these cars, and they shopped the coaches out to coach
10:54builders in Italy.
10:54So, this Tipo 8A car was actually only offered with a bare chassis and engine for the coach builders.
11:01And this one here is a LeBaron body.
11:04Oh, that's nice.
11:05Alan wants to make a reliable driver out of it.
11:09It's really not horrible, but it's got some pretty bad issues.
11:12It has wooden wheels.
11:14These are the original wood spoke wheels.
11:15He tried driving, and it was shaking like crazy.
11:18So, I'm assuming that all the spokes are probably loose.
11:21It's not going to be a frame-off, you know, complete huge job.
11:24It's still a pretty good amount of work.
11:26You got a minute to go for a ride and get this?
11:29Now?
11:30Yeah, now.
11:30What are you doing?
11:30Lunch is coming, isn't it?
11:32Yeah, it's lunchtime.
11:32We'll stop and get lunch, and we'll get the car.
11:34Okay.
11:35Let's look the trailer up.
11:36Wiley, you want to go for a ride?
11:37Come on, Wiley.
11:38You want to go get a car with us?
11:39Get off the car.
11:39Let's go.
11:40Come on, Wiley.
11:42Let's go.
11:49One of the main focuses of the Isada restoration is the wheels.
11:53As you can imagine, almost 100-year-old wooden wheels have taken a pretty good beating in
11:58their life, and we've got some structural work to do to them, not to mention making them
12:02look good, too.
12:04Our biggest issue is that all the spokes are loose.
12:07So, we're going to actually make shims to go in between these spokes and get these things
12:11rock solid again so that the car's not going to wobble going down the road.
12:15We need to start by sandblasting them.
12:17Then, we're going to put a spray poly on here.
12:19It's almost like a finished putty.
12:21We'll be able to block that smooth, get these things looking perfect again.
12:25Then, we can do all of our finished priming and painting, get them hand-pinstriped, cleared,
12:30and they'll be looking like a million bucks again.
12:36It's very important that you don't just go at wooden wheels with a sandblaster on high
12:41pressure because that could compromise the integrity of these things.
12:44So, we're going to use a crushed glass, which is a really soft media, and it's going to gently
12:49take away all the paint, all the texture and coatings that are on these wheels without damaging
12:53the wood.
13:06All right, we're going to get them in the paint booth, and I'm going to put three coats
13:09of spray polyester on there, and then we can block that down and start doing our final
13:13work on them.
13:13But, they're looking really good.
13:15Now, it's time for the next step.
13:23Put these wheels together, Petey.
13:25Sounds good.
13:26Some wheels, aren't they?
13:28So much work.
13:29Now that the Isata wheels are all restored, hand-pinstriped, painted beautifully, looking
13:34really good, Pete and I are mounting them to the metal rings and tires, and we're going
13:39to put these things on the vehicle and take it for a test drive so that we know for sure
13:42this car is going to be safe going down the road.
13:47These cars back then used a bead lock system to keep the rims together.
13:52The bead lock wedges itself between the rim and the outer rim, and then these locks here.
13:59They pulled that bead tight down in.
14:03It's actually a really dangerous setup for the guy taking the tire off of the rim.
14:08They've been known to kill people coming off.
14:21That looks great, Steve.
14:23Yeah, it does, Pete.
14:33We do not have much time on this, so let's get the cart underneath it as quick as possible,
14:39and then you guys start plasma cutting out the frame rails.
14:41Let's do it.
14:42Good.
14:42Let's do it.
14:43We're working on a 1967 Mustang Fastback for Dan Reynolds, and we're about to put in the
14:48new frame rails.
14:49We have a cart that we've made that holds everything in place and makes it easy for us to weld
14:54it
14:55all up.
14:55Start setting it down.
14:58Yeah.
15:06We've got to make a little brace for the core support so that once we cut the frame rails
15:11out, this will hold the core support in place.
15:14It's important that you keep all the factory mounts in place where the fenders went, so that
15:19way when you go to put back on the hood, the hood hinges, the front fenders, it all lines
15:24up pretty easy.
15:26It's not going to line up perfect, but it makes it a little bit easier.
15:29Should hold it.
15:30Uh, Cesar, you know where you're cutting, right?
15:32Don't cut through the firewall.
15:34Cut around and cut this pork box out, and then we'll just cut close to the floor.
15:39All right?
15:39Go ahead.
15:41Dan's a high-end client, and this is going to be a high-profile build.
15:44There's going to be a lot of eyeballs on this thing.
15:46That's part of the reason I'm putting my own chassis and all my own suspension in this
15:50thing, because at the end of the day, I want this to ride and handle and feel like a
15:55brand-new car.
15:57All right.
15:58Bring me a frame rail.
16:09Ooh, like a glove.
16:11One down.
16:12One more to go.
16:13Let's do it.
16:14Let's keep going.
16:25Where'd you put the generator cover?
16:27It's on the table there.
16:28There's no generator cover over here.
16:30It's got to be right here.
16:31There is no generator cover here, Dale.
16:34Only two days left to get the Hemi Crocker running for the big day at Wheels Through Time,
16:38and I'm getting all the final parts ready for assembly.
16:43Look at that.
16:45A Crocker cam.
16:46There's a shifter drum.
16:49Ooh, I can get lost in the 30s right here.
16:54Bob!
16:55Bob!
16:55Look!
16:57It's a whole housey.
16:59That's it?
17:01Bob, you're going to be riding.
17:03I love it.
17:07Just cut the center out.
17:09Let's get it done.
17:10Okay.
17:15Whoa!
17:20There's a lot of people very anxious to see this thing run, and I'm anxious to see it run, too.
17:25There we go, right in there, man.
17:27We've got to get the seat foot on it.
17:28Here we go.
17:29We've had some interesting hiccups in working through the checklist on the 37 Crocker.
17:33With only a day and a half left, things seem to be going smoothly, but time is winding down.
17:38Now, we've built a lot of publicity with events like this when we run two bikes on such a great
17:42day.
17:43However, we only have one of these machines running.
17:46I've got to get this 37 done.
17:48This is all your Crocker stuff.
17:49Well, that's what's left of the Crocker stuff.
17:52There's no CT in here, pal.
17:54What do you mean there's no CT?
17:55There is no CT.
17:56Take a look.
17:56There's no CT.
17:59What the hell?
18:00We've got a ride tomorrow.
18:02Want to go ride on a fender?
18:03In 1936, motorcycles didn't have a rear suspension.
18:06That work was done by the seat.
18:07On a Crocker motorcycle, the seat is connected to the frame with a hinge-like item called a CT.
18:13Like every other part on a Crocker, this part is hard to find.
18:19Think.
18:19Stop and think.
18:21Ah.
18:22See, when I took the bikes apart, all the parts stayed on this tray right here.
18:26It's not here.
18:28What are you going to do?
18:30You got a CT.
18:31What do you mean I got a CT?
18:32I don't have a CT.
18:33Yeah, you do.
18:34It's on your bike sitting right over there.
18:36That's an Indian Scout.
18:37Yeah, I know it.
18:37Al Crocker used one part, and only one part, off an Indian motorcycle when he built his Crocker motorcycles, and
18:44that was the CT.
18:46You know, back in the day, Crocker was accused of stealing Harley Davidson's ideas and Indians' ideas.
18:53He really didn't.
18:54This bike is totally his own design.
18:56The one part he did use was the CT.
18:59Let me go get a CT.
19:00Good.
19:00Go get it.
19:01Here we have one CT off of a 1937 Indian Scout.
19:06Now, this is what mounts the seat and gives it its play up and down as you ride.
19:11Okay, brother.
19:12What you got?
19:13I got the classiest CT ever.
19:16That is the CT.
19:18That's good right there.
19:20Okay, here we go.
19:21Got your spacers.
19:22Bolt.
19:23Spacers.
19:25You got it?
19:26You ready?
19:27Yeah, push it in.
19:29There we go.
19:30Are we in?
19:31That's it.
19:31You're in.
19:33Tomorrow is the day.
19:35No matter what it takes, we're going to have this bike ready.
19:38There we go.
19:39We're happening.
19:40That's it.
19:40God, that looks good, Dale.
19:42And it's roomy enough.
19:45Oh, that seat fits me, too.
19:46So well.
19:48Next.
19:49All right.
19:50Fantastic.
20:05Oh, hey.
20:07Check that out, man.
20:10Supercharged Roush Coyote.
20:12600 horsepower.
20:13500 foot-pounds of torque.
20:16Yeah, it's a monster.
20:17Dude, Dan is going to love this thing.
20:19He is going to go insane.
20:21We got to haul ass on this, so let's turn the Mustang around.
20:23Let's start fitting this thing up.
20:25All right.
20:25Cool.
20:26We spent a lot of time so far on the body modification on Dan's 67 Mustang, but we still got
20:31a lot of
20:32work ahead of us.
20:33He wants this thing done by the time he gets back from his European tour, which only gives
20:37us about a month to finish, and we still haven't even fit up the engine.
20:43Got it.
20:46Okay.
20:46The old Ford V8 just wasn't powerful enough.
20:50It was only 200 horsepower.
20:54We're putting in a supercharged Coyote, putting out almost 630 horsepower.
20:59This thing is a beast, so I have no idea how this thing is going to fit in the engine
21:03bay
21:03and what modifications we're going to have to make, because I've never used one with the
21:07RAL supercharger on it.
21:10All right.
21:11Follow me.
21:13We're using an engine hoist to lower the motor and the transmission into the bay for the first
21:18time.
21:18This could be the difference between something that goes really right or something that's
21:23really wrong.
21:24Keep on coming.
21:27Bring her on in.
21:29Come down.
21:31Okay, down.
21:33How are we looking, Kirk?
21:34Good.
21:34Keep going.
21:37What's getting caught up there, Kirk?
21:39We're good.
21:40No, we're good up here.
21:41Wait a sec.
21:42Something's crammed in something.
21:45Wait, wait, wait, wait.
21:46There you go.
21:46I'll go down.
21:47Wait, wait.
21:47What's the matter?
21:49You could go back up.
21:51What are we waiting on?
21:53There's a vacuum modulator that's hitting the lip of the firewall.
21:56We can't go back any farther, otherwise we're going to rip it right off the motor.
21:59This chain bolt is hitting the firewall, and we're touching the bell housing on this
22:04corner of the firewall.
22:05Oh, ****.
22:08We're going to have to cut that whole tunnel out right now.
22:11It's like trying to shove 50 pounds of **** in a 10-pound bag.
22:18You know, there's no instructions when we're doing this stuff, so...
22:21We've run into a little bit of a problem.
22:23The bell housing is hitting the firewall, which is keeping the back of the motor from
22:27going up, and if it went up, it would avoid this lip right here, and it would fit underneath.
22:34All right, let's pull it back out where it was, and let's just cut that **** out there
22:40real quick.
22:57Look at all the money on the ground.
22:58I was hoping with this new floor, this trans tunnel, it was going to fit right in, but
23:04I was wrong.
23:05We're trying to cram this thing in here, and that's just what it takes sometimes.
23:08You just got to start cutting, making room, and then once we make room, we'll start fitting
23:13it all up.
23:14Why do I do this to myself?
23:16Yeah, we can build it.
23:18Sure, no problem.
23:19I hate sleep.
23:21Oh, yeah.
23:22Okay, hold it right there.
23:24Okay, let me look at it.
23:27We're stuck.
23:30For tonight, we're going to have to pull the motor and tranny back out, and then we'll hit
23:34it first thing tomorrow morning again.
23:36****.
23:36Man, that thing kicked our ass.
23:39Car one, bus zero.
23:47Come on in, Mitchell.
23:48We ran into trouble yesterday putting this huge motor in Dan Reynolds' 1967 Ford Mustang.
23:55Not going in like I wanted to, but we came up with a pretty good plan.
23:58We got to notch out the chassis, do some more work to the firewall, because every inch counts.
24:03We have under a month before Dan gets back from his European tour, so we got to figure
24:08this problem out, because we still got a ton of work to do.
24:11How are we looking?
24:12So we're good against the firewall.
24:13We're getting a lot straighter, a lot more clearance.
24:16That's actually perfect back here.
24:19God, the motor's nice and level.
24:21It's perfect.
24:22That's where it needs to be.
24:24It'll probably clear the hood.
24:26If anything, we may have to do a little pocket for the AC, and we may have to just notch
24:31this
24:32out.
24:32I like it.
24:33I think we just deal with a couple issues with the accessories as they come, and we're
24:37just going to have to make room for them.
24:38Well, hey, why don't we do this?
24:40We got it where we want it.
24:41Let's find some motor mount bushings and bolt it up there and make the cuts we got to make,
24:46and let's get it tacked in there.
24:47How's that sound?
24:48Sure.
24:48Perfect.
24:50Well, it looks like we finally got a good fit, and we got the motor and the trans sitting
24:53in the chassis.
24:54I'm going to have the guys weld up the motor mounts so that we can see if this thing will
24:58sit
24:58on its own without the help of a hoist.
25:15Let's see if she holds her own weight.
25:19Oh, oh.
25:22She's all on her own.
25:25All right, cool.
25:26She's holding up her own weight.
25:28Mount's tacked in there.
25:29Now that we finally got a good fit for our new engine, the next step is to put on the
25:34new fiberglass bumper, the new hood with the hood scoop, and all of that has to get done
25:40over the next few days before we can fit everything up and Alex and the guys can get this painted
25:44and back in for final assembly.
25:56Can I talk to you for a sec?
26:02Just got off the phone with the customer.
26:05Changes.
26:05He wants changes.
26:07You want a change?
26:08Yes.
26:08I sent some pictures to Dan to give him an update, show him where we're at with the car.
26:13He texts me back and says, stop.
26:16Call me ASAP.
26:18He doesn't like the original Eleanor bumper or the angle that the front of the car is on.
26:24So he sends me a picture and says, can we make it like this?
26:27This is a game changer because I am going to have to make it to what he is envisioning
26:33and hopefully find a happy medium between the bumper we have and the profile he's looking for.
26:39He wants the Eleanor hood.
26:42So I've already ordered one.
26:44That shouldn't take us so long to change out.
26:46But he also wants the front bumper recessed.
26:50I think I'm going to give it a little bit more of an angle as well.
26:54You know, he didn't make a big deal out of it.
26:56He just, he knows what he wants.
26:58So that's fine.
27:00I totally get it and we got to make it happen.
27:02Let me measure this out, lay it out, cut it, sink it back in.
27:07I'll take an inch out and I'll bring it in.
27:10Taking off an inch may not sound like a lot,
27:12but that means I got to redo all the angles of the entire front end of this car.
27:17We don't have a lot of time left.
27:19Dan's going to be here in less than three weeks.
27:21I don't know how I'm going to pull this off.
27:23All this is doing is stressing me out.
27:41Yeah!
27:44Oh, yeah!
27:46Basically what we've done is we've cut the bumper,
27:48we took an inch out, we set it back.
27:51We left a half inch gap over here on top.
27:54That gave us a little bit more of an angle to the bumper
27:57to follow this line a little bit better
27:59and it moved it in pretty much an inch.
28:02I think that's it,
28:03but I am going to send some pictures to Dan
28:06just to get final approval.
28:07Once I get his approval,
28:09we'll glue it back together
28:10and continue on with bodywear.
28:25I'm just about finished with our restoration
28:28on this super rare 1924 Isata Freschini Tipo 8A.
28:33And just in time because our client Alan
28:35is here to see how his baby drives with new rebuilt wheels.
28:39What's going on, Alan?
28:41Good to see you.
28:42Oh, my God.
28:43What a thing of beauty.
28:45Unbelievable.
28:54This is one of 20 surviving examples
28:57that are left of this model.
29:00I mean, it's a beautiful car,
29:01but it's stepped up its game a little now.
29:05Well, tell me what you did on the wheels.
29:08Well, obviously, you remember the wheels
29:10were in horrible shape when they came in.
29:12I mean, it was just old, rotted-out wood.
29:14So, I mean, we went right through.
29:15We glass-beaded them,
29:16cleaned them right down to the bare wood,
29:17polyed them,
29:19did all of our body and paint work on them,
29:21cleared them,
29:21then hand-pin-striped them
29:22just to look like they were.
29:24Powder-coated the outer ring to the split rims.
29:27Phenomenal.
29:27Redid all the cowl panel for you.
29:29We've got just a little more striping to do,
29:31and the hood panels will be ready to go on.
29:34So, we were actually about to take it for a test drive.
29:37Today?
29:38Right now.
29:39Phenomenal.
29:39Let's do it, huh?
29:40Excellent.
29:41You want to do the honors?
29:42I will do the honors.
29:43Let's go.
29:44Alan's here a little early to test drive
29:45his 1924 Isata Frischini T-088.
29:50But, we still have to finish the engine side panels.
29:53He wants to drive this thing right now, though,
29:54which is okay with me
29:55as long as it's all right with him.
29:57I mean, we can put the hood on afterwards.
29:58Besides, we're going to be showing off this Isata's
30:01beautiful straight-eight engine,
30:03which was the first of its kind in the world.
30:09Oh, my God, Steve.
30:10This is exciting.
30:11The only thing we need is power steering.
30:13Yeah.
30:13For some muscles to go with it.
30:15Right.
30:15Exactly.
30:16It's good for you.
30:23It's a perfect day to have a convertible out of here.
30:26It doesn't get better than this.
30:28This is a great drive, a great day, great job.
30:32This is what the car hobby's all about.
30:38The throttle cable broke.
30:39I really don't have time to take the whole handlebar part.
30:42This will be a miracle if this plays off.
30:44Come on.
30:46Oh, s***.
30:52Get in there.
30:53Come on.
30:55Today's our annual end-of-the-year gala at Wheels Through Time,
30:58and Bob and I are going to start some extremely rare Crocker motorcycles.
31:01Not one, but two.
31:03And people are coming from far and wide.
31:05The problem is only one of them is running.
31:08The throttle cable broke, and I've already got the new throttle cable made up.
31:12It's just trying to fish this cable into this extremely sharp bend.
31:16I have to run the throttle through the open end of the handlebars
31:19all the way down to the carburetor,
31:20where it regulates the amount of fuel and air mixture into the engine.
31:24The problem is I can't get the cable past the first bend in the handlebars,
31:28and our visitors are showing up in droves to hear this bike run,
31:32and it's not running.
31:34Oh, s***.
31:35I really don't have time to take the whole handlebar part.
31:46This baby's on its way back together.
31:49The throttle cable on the Crocker nearly gave me a heart attack,
31:51but now I've got it connected.
31:53There's hundreds of average motorcycle enthusiasts
31:55that are dying to hear these Crockers run.
31:57The problem is I haven't had time to test this machine.
32:01This is really a trial by fire.
32:02Ladies and gentlemen.
32:04Hello, everybody.
32:07Yeah.
32:10A little minor mechanical mishap,
32:14but we're all here at Wheel Street Time,
32:15and what we're going to do today
32:17is we're going to start some incredibly rare motorcycles for you.
32:23For those that don't know anything about the Crocker motorcycle,
32:26these bikes were built in Los Angeles from 1936 to 1942.
32:32They built 71 Crockers,
32:34but they only built about 26 with this particular engine design.
32:39That's called a Hemi-Head Crocker.
32:42Both of these machines I found in California,
32:44and their proximity is only 14 serial numbers apart.
32:48So these bikes were probably in Al Crocker's shop at about the same time.
32:52They don't really sound like any bike you've ever heard before.
32:56Fire that thing up, Bob.
32:59I think you're ready to go.
33:01Full advance.
33:01There you go.
33:02One kick.
33:03Close.
33:05A little more throttle.
33:07A little more, Bob.
33:10No throttle.
33:16Starting an 80-year-old motorcycle has the inherent risk that it may not start.
33:20I hope I can get this one fixed on the spot.
33:23Otherwise, we're going to look pretty silly.
33:26Yeah, come on, Bob.
33:28Okay, now, wait a minute.
33:29Stop.
33:30Hop off there.
33:31I'm going to crank this thing up.
33:32Everybody comes to Wheelchair Time.
33:33It'll start.
33:34To see Dale start a bike.
33:35Right?
33:36Second time.
33:36Here we go.
33:43Bye-bye.
33:45Bye-bye.
33:48Oh.
33:50Bob forgot to turn the gas on.
33:54Who turned the gas off, Bob?
33:58Bob turned the gas off.
34:00That was me.
34:02Now we're pumped.
34:04Okay, Bob, it's all yours.
34:06Give it a try.
34:06Turn it back and make sure the gas is on.
34:08Oh, the gas.
34:08One good kick, a little bit of retard right there.
34:10A little bit.
34:11I'm really hoping it's only because the gas was off the crocker wouldn't start.
34:15These people have come thousands of miles to see this machine run.
34:18And if it doesn't, that'll be the only thing they remember.
34:24Oh!
34:24Yeah!
34:25Yeah!
34:28Yeah!
34:29Yeah!
34:30Yeah!
34:30Yeah!
34:30Yeah!
34:31Yeah!
34:32Yeah!
34:33Yeah!
34:38He's the
34:52Yeah!
34:53He has wheels for time and Bob finally gets to ride the bike of his dreams.
35:07Thank you, everybody.
35:11Thank you, Bob.
35:12Give me a hug, brother.
35:24Yeah.
35:28Houston, we have a problem.
35:32Can you come and check the hood?
35:33We just put it on and it looks bad, really bad.
35:39Are you serious?
35:40Yeah.
35:43So Dan decides he doesn't like the hood scoop,
35:46so I've ordered a new one.
35:47Dan is a high-profile client,
35:49so this thing can be nothing less than flawless.
35:52This is longer.
35:53If you push it like this, I mean, it makes it longer, more than what it is.
35:59We get the new hood with the hood scoop that Dan wants, and it does not fit.
36:03It's protruding out further than the other one.
36:05It's not following the fender lines.
36:07It's terrible.
36:08Why don't we just cut this scoop out and throw it on the other hood?
36:12Just cut the center out.
36:14Put that one in.
36:16That's good.
36:16That's what I want to hear.
36:18So what we decide to do is swap hood scoops.
36:21We cut out the one that he likes and the one that he doesn't, and we swap them.
36:26Let's get it done.
36:33Oh, boy, this hood is bad luck.
36:35We need to get this out here.
36:37I don't have no lights, and you've broken my last one.
36:42Sorry.
36:43I'll get you some new ones, okay?
36:44Give me two lights, please.
36:45I'm going to hit him today.
36:47I'm going to go bury my head in a hole, so it doesn't get any worse.
36:51It's going to be fine.
36:52Don't worry.
36:52Okay.
36:53We'll take care.
36:56It's behind this wall.
36:57Are you ready, man?
36:58I'm ready.
36:59He opens up the garage door, and...
37:03Oh, my God!
37:05Dan's reaction is the best reaction I have ever got from any customer.
37:10Oh!
37:16The car is done.
37:18This custom 67 Mustang is everything I ever could imagine.
37:22This is truly a car for a rock star.
37:25We started with an Eleanor from the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds.
37:29But what it's morphed into is something entirely different,
37:33and it's a one-of-a-kind supercar.
37:35Hey, man.
37:36Hey, dude.
37:37What's up?
37:37How's it going?
37:38Hey, man. How's life?
37:39Got here to pick up the car, and I'm very excited.
37:44I can't even put into words, I feel.
37:45Oh, man.
37:46I'm excited.
37:47I'm a little boy at Christmas.
37:47I freaked out, like, ten times on the road when he sent me a picture,
37:51and then, like, ah, I don't know if the hood's right,
37:54or should we do this on the back, or should we do the wing or not?
37:57Someone was asking me, hey, do you ever have a hard time letting go of cars?
38:01This one, I think I'm going to have a hard time letting go of.
38:03Really?
38:04Yeah.
38:05I'm trying not to have expectations, because that's just such a frightful thing,
38:09but I just expect to be happier than I've been maybe in a long time.
38:14It's behind this wall.
38:15Are you ready, man?
38:16I'm ready.
38:16All right. Let's do this.
38:18All right.
38:20He opens up the garage door, and...
38:24Oh, my God.
38:27Sounds are a big deal to me as a musician,
38:29and I know the sound that I want to hear,
38:31and it sounds exactly like I would hope it sounds.
38:37Oh, my God.
38:38And I see the car rolling out.
38:42Oh, my God.
38:48Oh, my God.
38:49Oh, my God.
38:50Everybody says that objects can't make you happy.
38:53I am going to have to dispute that.
38:54Oh.
38:55I feel very happy.
38:56Yeah.
38:57About as happy as you can get, I think.
38:58What do you think, man?
38:59There are no words to describe what I think.
39:02Check it out, man.
39:03Dude, what have you done?
39:03Look at it.
39:04This looks like an Eleanor, but this thing is so much more.
39:07This is a supercar Eleanor.
39:09There's nothing like it on Earth.
39:11I mean, this thing is bad ass.
39:13I have never seen a more beautiful car.
39:14Ever.
39:15Dude.
39:15Oh, my gosh.
39:17Yep.
39:17Wow.
39:18See, you're already noticing all the changes.
39:20We handmade these out of metal instead of the big, bulky fiberglass ones.
39:25Oh, dude.
39:25Just the curves and the cut.
39:27Like, and...
39:28Oh.
39:28I know you wanted the trim around the back here,
39:30but I was like, God, it looks so beautiful.
39:32So classic.
39:33So simple.
39:34Yeah.
39:34Oh, my gosh.
39:36Oh, my gosh.
39:40There's not one thing on it we haven't touched.
39:43So badass.
39:44Oh.
39:45Oh.
39:46Oh.
39:48Oh, my gosh.
39:49How did you fit that in there?
39:50It was not easy.
39:52I feel like I need to drive it with the hood up.
39:55We can take the hood off.
39:56Yeah.
39:57Yeah.
39:58We got all the wiring hidden, so you don't see anything.
40:01Yeah, it's super clean.
40:02It's super, super clean just so it's like the engine sitting there.
40:05With our chassis, it allows us to open up the engine bay 12 inches from the factory.
40:10Perfect.
40:10And I love that it has your own artistic touch to it.
40:15Oh, man.
40:17Oh.
40:18Wow.
40:19I mean, this is just such a thing of beauty.
40:21I love how clean it is.
40:23I think so many people overcomplicate things.
40:25Yeah.
40:25I like simplicity.
40:26It says a lot more than being loud.
40:28We take it for a drive.
40:29I think we need to take a first drive.
40:30You need to get in there.
40:31All right.
40:38Oh.
40:40Listen to that.
40:42That is just, there's no better sound in the world.
40:48Oh.
40:50Oh, man.
40:50Dan's reaction is the best reaction I have ever got from any customer.
40:56And I've been doing this a long time.
41:01Oh.
41:04His expression and his excitement, that's what I do this for.
41:10Let's take her out.
41:11All right.
41:12Let's do it.
41:13Yes, indeed.
41:19You know, Mustang just speaks to me.
41:22Everybody who's really into cars, you just have a car that kind of calls out to you.
41:26And since I was a young kid, Mustang always felt very masculine, but sexy, classic.
41:34And it's just been a dream since I was a young kid.
41:37Oh, man.
