00:00I'm now. Come on in. Come on in. Come on in. Are they ready for us?
00:04No, no. There's a mirror here.
00:05Oh, come on.
00:06I know it's a mirror right there.
00:10Just so you know, I'm on an interview, if you will.
00:12You can see me if you want to.
00:14Hey!
00:16Come show your face.
00:17Hello.
00:19I got my light on.
00:21Love your work.
00:35Hey guys, it's me, Yaya Diamond, and I am so, so very excited to have my next guest on
00:41the show. She is a background vocalist. She sings, she dances, she does all that. She
00:46is the bomb. Okay. Erin is the bomb. I want to welcome her to the show. Thank you so much
00:51for being with us today.
00:53Hello, Yaya. First of all, girl, thank you for having me. I'm all right. We're working
00:58on being a bomb, but thank you.
01:01No, you already bomb. It's, you know, it's, it's already there. It's in the bag. You just
01:05don't know it because you're in it. You know, I see it. You're in it. You, you good.
01:09Yeah. Thank you. Thank you.
01:12So I know your time is limited and I know that you're behind, you're backstage, you're
01:15getting ready to do your thing and just a moment of your time, you know, how did this
01:20all start for you? Cause I know that, you know, you're Janet with Janet Jackson and all
01:25kinds of girls, tell me, tell me. Ah, well, it's been a very, very, very glorious and
01:30grateful road, a background singer to a lot of stars, a lot of them. Um, just to give a
01:37few, um, for Rihanna, Janet, Duran Duran, uh, John Legend. I've sung for Stevie Wonder a time
01:44or two, Shaquan a time or two. Um, Justin Timberlake. Hey, Justin, let me suggest it. I mean, a bunch
01:50of people, uh, now we can say AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys, but, and I also just decided
01:55not to give up on myself, uh, in the midst of doing all that background work and touring
01:59for years. And I started singing and songwriting and producing my own music. And now I'm talking
02:03to you about my next single. I'm right there with you, girl. I'm right there with you. Yo, yo,
02:19you know, that is amazing. But the road, the road to get there. A lot of people don't know
02:25it sometimes just happens. I mean, you're in it and you don't really realize what's going
02:29on until all of a sudden it just happens. No, that's a very real thing. I call it the
02:33hamster wheel. Um, so for me, um, I was from Houston, Texas, and I was doing a lot of, I
02:39grew up singing in groups, a bunch of you, some of them I know you've heard of, the world
02:43has heard of. Um, but once I got out of college, I was trying to decide what I wanted to
02:47do
02:47with my life. And of course, music is just who I am. I love music music. And so people would
02:52always come to Houston and I would either sing for them, I mean, open for them or do backgrounds
02:56for them. However, my first big, big, big, like a list. And I hate being sounding like
03:01that, but you know, we all know, unfortunately there's levels to this and it was Janet Jackson,
03:05which we are so proud to name. And after her, the, it just kept going and going and going
03:12and going more so because people were like, if you sing for Janet, you can sing for anybody
03:15because of the work ethic, because of the dedication and the level of perfection that
03:19she demands. So, um, I like to tell people all the time, talent may get you in the door,
03:26but your work ethic is what keeps you working. And, uh, and I'd like to thank God for that.
03:31And the wheel just kept going and going. I was working, I was traveling the world over
03:36and over. I was getting paid to do what I loved without all the stress and the headache
03:40of being the artist. However, something kept tugging at my heart. And, uh, when people told
03:45me it was too late or I waited too long, my last song went to number 14 on the billboard
03:50charts. You go girl, prove them wrong. But as you said, it's a conscious effort,
03:56a conscious decision to say, to not give up on yourself. Um, and that's really what it
04:01became for me. Just a conscious effort. Cause I loved, loved what I was doing, singing backgrounds,
04:06but it was just time. And I was ready to write what I wanted to write, seeing what I wanted
04:10to
04:10sing about, uh, the melodies that I wanted to produce all, all the above.
04:15I know how you feel girl. It's like, I'm not in the same boat. No, you say you're not
04:22no, I'm just privileged. My mom was in the industry. So I was just along for the ride for the
04:28all my life, but I didn't really, you know, perform with too many people, but I understand not to give
04:35up
04:35on yourself. And you know what I hate when people say, Oh, you're too old. You know what too old
04:39is
04:39dead. That's too old. Yeah. You, you're old when you're dead. Cause I was like, let me show,
04:44I was like, let me stand up. Let me show you. Then I started getting healthy. And I was like,
04:49I'm about to give you all these flabbing abs and everything else, all this smile. And we're
04:55going to get all of it. And the moment that I decided to do that, I mean like, shoot, man,
05:00just fall in love with all that you are flaws and all if they're dealing with flaws and that's
05:04not. Yeah. So I'm on a mission girl. I don't care. You got to say something.
05:11Say something. Tell me about it. Tell me about it.
05:16So say something. I wrote that song. I wrote that song a couple of years ago. Actually,
05:21I think in 2018, was it? Nonetheless, I got so tired of, um, and I'm sure predominantly females,
05:29but men are going to understand this too. Cause chicks be doing it too. But I got so tired of
05:34men
05:35coming to me years later from like high school or college or either, even once that I'd finally
05:40met later on in life, you know, I've always been in love with you. I've always thought you were so
05:44beautiful. You know, you're the love of my life. God told me that I was supposed to marry you. Yeah.
05:49All the while you got a whole wife at home or a girlfriend or a baby on the way. Uh,
05:54like,
05:55why would you want me to do with this right now? Now you want to tell me this? So no,
06:00I don't want it. And, and then at the time when I wrote the song, I was married as well.
06:05I'm
06:05divorced now for a while now. And, um, so I was just like, what'd you want me to do with
06:09this?
06:10So the lyrics are very real. I always write very honest lyrics, but they're very real.
06:14They're very honest and it's fun and playful, but I really do believe in love. I am that person.
06:20So, um, don't let greatness pass you by. So it's just, I'd be telling you to get some courage,
06:27man. Speak up, say something. You never know. That's right. So what are you doing now? And
06:33what can we expect from Aaron today? Well, currently right now I am with AJ McLean
06:40from the Backstreet Boys. We were doing a tape and I'm, um, um, doing some backgrounds for him.
06:45Keep my lights on because I'm funding my own project as well. So we got to work to work and
06:50I'm okay with that. Ain't no pride in that. Um, so I'll still do work background work when it, when
06:54it, um, when it makes sense. And they, and, and because, um, how do I say this? Right. I'm now,
07:02come on in, come on in, come on in. Are they ready for us? No, no, it's just a mirror
07:06here. Oh,
07:07come on. I know it's a mirror right there. Thank you. Just, just so you know, I'm on an interview.
07:13If you will, sorry. Yeah. You can be pretty if you want to. I don't think anyone's face.
07:18Come show your face. Hello. Hello. I got my light on. How you doing? Love your work. Yeah.
07:25Love your work. I, I admire you guys. AJ's got some work to do, so you're not. Yeah, you go,
07:31you go.
07:33You know. You stupid. You stupid. Don't think I didn't, I didn't hear that. Oh my gosh.
07:43It's true. You're like, well, we know she happy. We can see her teeth. She's smiling at least.
07:48No. Hey, right?
07:51But yeah, girl. So that's really what it is. So I wrote a song about it. Um,
07:55just so people don't let you love fast and bye. That's right. I, I, I agree with you. I definitely
08:00agree with you. And I want to thank you so much for being on the show. We're going to put
08:02the link
08:03to your song in the description. So that way people can go and subscribe to your channel
08:06and go and see you and follow you and support you because you know what? We need to support each
08:12other and we need to say something and we need not to let time go by without going after your
08:17dreams and your goals. You know, old is dead. You die. They say you, when you think you're old is
08:25when
08:25you actually die. When you stop living is when you die. When you stop having goals is when you die.
08:29So you did. Yeah, you did. Go ahead and buy your casket.
08:37I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that. I'm just getting started. So,
08:42and I'm excited about it. You know, cause people be so scared to get old. I have to admit,
08:47I am enjoying getting older. Girl, I don't know. I am too, but the pain.
08:53We can talk about that. Cause when my knees are set up right now, as I bought, I'm about to
08:58put these,
08:58you know, look at these, I'm about to put these high heels on. Girl, no, no.
09:02And the way my heels are set up and my knees, I'm going to be cute though. And I'm going
09:07to do it.
09:09I'm going to do it when I'm done.
09:14Somebody has some ice backstage after she's done.
09:22Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. All right. It's just such a pleasure having you on the show, sweetheart.
09:27I wish nothing but the most best outcome. Keep, keep bringing the love, keep showing the love,
09:36keep doing what you got to do to make it happen for yourself. You got a fan right here.
09:41Oh, that's very kind of you. I sincerely thank you for having me. Um, thank you for what you do.
09:47I don't take it for granted. I, and many of us independents and major artists as well,
09:52need the use of the world. So thank you for what you're doing. And it's an honor to be here.
09:56Thank you.
